It will be interesting to see over the years how his pace ranges during his career.

He's clocked 147kph today in the 2nd T20I against Australia in Dubai which is quicker than what he has been bowling recently.
 
At his peak he should hit minimum 154 kph. Pace wise he will be between Wabby and Starcy.
 
I think he will be someone who operates on avg around 135-138 km/hr with his quick deliveries being around 145-148 km/hr.

The days of Akhtar and Lee averaging 148-154 km/hr are long gone.
 
This really isnt the point.Yes he certainly has the ability to go 145+ but wont do it all the time.Bowlers like Boult,Steyn and ptbly some others do have this ability but really they read the pitch first.Wasnt much point in going all out especially on these pitches.
 
He's good but needs to improve his line when coming over the wicket to right handers.
 
Sorry to say I am yet to be impressed by him, no conventional swing no seam or 135k+ cutters that actually moves off the surface, the only thing he's having is a decent slower bowl and a pacier shortish delivery which hurried on after pitching. Just a decent prospect nothing more currently however I am not denying he has the potential to become very good in next few years, whether he actually realize that potential is to be seen.

Totally disagree he will Starc for pace in all 3 formats if not bowl faster.
 
I am not sure raw pace is that important, if your avg pace is above 140, that is more than enough. After than you really need is ability to swing both ways and control. His focus should be more on developing those skill set.

Right. Seems to be a bowler who relies on making good use of crease in creating different angles. And has bowled a few good yorkers so far
 
The guy is young and energetic. He can surely hit 150+. If he remains fit the peak age for bowling is 28 so have enough time

By playing him in Tests we will reduce his effectiveness at the moment.

Best option is to just pick him for ODIs and T20Is currently.

in UAE tests yes, keep him away.

But he MUST play in SA, it's the ideal place for him to debut.

My concern is regarding his fitness and the impact on his body at this stage of his career.
 
If anything he shouldn’t be playing useless T20s.

Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled at 141 KpH and they think he is left arm medium

Doesnt look threatening at all.

I am shocked why Hasan Ali has not been played. Micky Arthur only knows i guess.
 
For a tall guy pace is not really a problem as anything around 83mph is good but the real issue is the poor seam position to right handed.
 
Bit like how India would feel if they had played Mavi, Nagarkoti in the test matches. They were also good in the under-19 world cup.
 
Just needs to build strength and his pace will go up. His body is not used to the demands of test cricket yet. Having a top fast-bowler in the team would’ve helped him but he’s left to learn from Amir and Co.
 
He looks like a great prospect to me and would come around good if handled well. But knowing Pakistani management that is asking too much.
 
Not a test prospect please save him for short format or else he 'll turned into a 120kph thunderbolt bowler.

I am also surprised that he does not use his height effectively. Needs to be put on a diet, nutrition and strength training program and his pace will go up for sure

Surprised by the lack of well directed short pitch bowling, since he has a massive advantage of height and gets his wrist behind the ball.

He shouldn't be playing test matches yet. It will ruin his career ..he will definitely get threatening injuries if they make him a workhorse
 
We gonna ruin this kid... he wasn't supposed to spearhead the pack he was their to support as a 3rd seamer and we are asking him to do the work like donkey.... I am afraid we 'll turn him into a 120kph bowler....

he has talent , bowled with heart today but is very raw. At top level you need more skills to take wickets, bowling at 135kph and expecting to bounce out batsmen is not going to get you far. He needs to develop swing and seam ability.
 
19 yr old kid being run to the ground. He will not have the stamina to bowl 140 all day long at this age.

God forbid if he gets injured.

He is 19. He wont have that stamina. Plus i am not sure they train the bowlers with strength training etc at domestic levels in Pakistan.
 
I believe the reason he was picked for the SA tour was because of his height and the nature of the pitches. But he just did not deliver what was expected.

Irfan in 2013 was touching 140-148 km/hr on the SA tour and he was a much more threatening proposition. Height is neutralized if you are bowling at 130 km/hr

His action isn't clean and efficient enough to allow him to bowl 145+ consistently but he can hit it at times when he puts in the effort. In Tests he will be a bowler who bowls around the 138-142 mark. A bit of strength may increase that but not by too much. But with his height he doesn't need to be express pace, 140 is sharp enough.

He has been consistently threatening. But his inexperience shows, he doesn't hold a consistent line and gets overexcited to bowl that full money ball which usually ends up in the fence. In the short periods that he has bowled with some consistency he has looked deadly.

What Shaheen is being put through here is awful. The team has picked a spinner who has barely bowled and the pacers are being bowled into the ground. The senior bowlers have been below par; Abbas is playing his first competitive game on bouncy tracks so him struggling a bit is understandable and Amir has bowled his usual timid stuff like a support bowler. An 18 year old is having to carry the attack, he is already the highest wicket taker for us this series.

What exactly were you expecting?

Average this series is 28 so far. Strike rate is 44.2. Has 8 wickets, as many as Rabada. He's been your best bowler. If he can just bowl with more consistency his economy would improve greatly and average would come down as well.
 
They'll grind him down, match after match, until he gets injured and then comes back a gentle medium-pacer.
 
Should be rested for the 3rd test. No point in running a talented player into the ground in a dead rubber.
 
Yet another reason we should have had a 5 man attack. He should be asked to bowl quick in short bursts
 
He definetly needs to rest for the next test. They are running the poor kid into the ground. Heard from the commentators, that he pulled up in the nets with hamstring soreness before the test. Not good signs.
 
Rest him for the next game, he needs to be managed really carefully, especially in this age.
 
I hope he is rested for the next game as he will burn out otherwise

Averaged 26 for the series would have been 23 had the Elgar decision gone in his favour.He should be handled like Bumrah where for for 2 years he just played limited overs and he was already 23 the boy would only played odi and FC till he is 20 already which is 16 months away still
 
He should play the next game and we should play five bowlers to lower the burden on him. He can be rested in ODIs.
 
They really need to manage his workload. He is raw and young yet so cannot be expected to bowl so many overs. Play Hasan or Faheem over him next game. Or play a fifth bowler so he can bowl short, quick spells.
 
They should give him a rest and not pick him for the ODIs against South Africa.

He's a strong lad but he's an injury waiting to happen.

Rest him for the next test lol. It's a dead rubber for us. We need him for the ODIs to get him ready for the WC.

Agreed, but I wouldn't be surprised if he plays the next game and gets injured. :(

Hasan, Shaheen, Junaid, Faheem and Usman should be the pacers in squad for SA ODIs.

Hopefully common sense prevails and he doesn't play. He is very talanted. An injury could really derail his career.

TBH there has been no consistency with the speed guns in all 4 venues during the PSL.
 
Personally I think he needs a rest. He has been at it series after series without rest at this young age. It will affect sperd, consistency, confidence.
 
4th over: 135kph, 123kph, 131kph, 142kph, 141kph, 142kph

Pakistan need Shaheen to bowl fast - seems that he is bowling below-par - why is that?
 
Don't get it . . Pakistani bowlers instead of going up in pace come down in pace . . fgs . the guy is only 20 . . not even . .
 
76.7mph on the speed gun and whacked for six. 10mph quicker the next ball and six again.

And he’s clocked at 77mph again a couple balls later - was this guy supposed to be quick?

Pakistan pace bowlers seem to think the slower delivery is a stock ball these days.
 
He’s a new inexperienced bowler first time abroad and he needs time and guidance. Unfortunately there’s no other fast bowlers in the team who can mentor him. He’s literally the only fast bowler in the team. He’s has no support from anyone else.

If he's a fast bowler, maybe he should try bowling fast? Does he need a mentor to tell him that is his primary job?

It’s not about just bowling fast, when he’s getting smacked around and things are going wrong it can take a toll. This is where a mentor or an experienced bowler just gives you some confidence
