[VIDEO] "The selection committee is consistently ignoring me" : Salman Butt

The more runs he scores, the more the pressure will increase on the PCB.

It will be interesting to see who the selectors go for as the opening duo in Tests.

No pressure on PCB. imam has it covered

But there are other options too in sami, shan and abid. Not this cheat again.

212* at the moment - doing really well in this game.

Out for 237 today for Central Punjab versus Balochistan.

I think that Salman Butt would have been helpful on the overseas tours from 2016 to January 2019.

He is the same age as Azhar Ali, but the reason why Salman Butt was the skipper in 2010 while Azhar was just breaking into the team is because Butt was always twice the batsman that Azhar ever was.

But one aspect of selection which Misbah has never grasped is the need for continuously replacing the oldest batsman with a single youngster so that transition periods never occur.

Misbah and Younis should not have been both selected only for them to retire together.

And the same applies to Azhar, Shafiq and Salman Butt. Only one of them should be in the team this year, and even he should be replaced a year from now.

There would be a rift of Brexit proportions among Pakistan fans if Butt is ever selected again.

Why do we still give this liar attention? he is seeking attention and we are giving it, Pakistan should stop reporting on Salman Butt, we have to starve Salman Butt of all attention so he could shut up and fade away into the darkness.

Salman Butt who made-up for his first innings failure (zero), hit eight fours in his 177-minute stay. He faced a total of 157 balls to score 63* in drawn game between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa & Central Punjab

There would be a rift of Brexit proportions among Pakistan fans if Butt is ever selected again.

For a Brexit like rift, there would have to be a 50/50 split in opinion of millions of Pak fans, but I don't think anyone other than Salman Butt's friends and relatives and one person in Australia (unless he's related) believes he should be back in the team.

It'll be more like a coup of French Revolution proportions which will make Bastille day look like an iftar party at your Khala's house.

Morality issue aside, he is 35 now with not much future and Pak will be looking to invest in younger batsmen like Omair yousuf, Haider Ali, Zeeshan Malik, Imran Butt etc.

Salman Butt hits out at selectors after Pakistan’s defeat in first Test

Former captain Salman Butt has criticised Pakistan’s selection policy after the team’s defeat in the first Test against Australia in Brisbane.

Speaking to media in Karachi on Sunday, Salman said Pakistan should not have opted to test new player for this tough series which was also a part of ICC Test Championship.

“This is an important series of ICC Test championship, you should have picked your best-experienced players for the tour,” Salman told media ahead of his side’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match.

Salman who has represented Pakistan in 33 Tests and 78 ODIs, said that you cannot do experiments in an important series like this one.

“This is not the time to test those who will play for Pakistan regularly after a few years, this was time to go with your best players as the series was part of ICC Test Championship,” he said.

Pakistan had picked three new faces Naseem Shah, Kashif Bhatti and Musa Khan for the series. Abid Ali was also picked by the selectors for top order batting. The former captain said experienced players could have helped Pakistan produce better results in the series.

The 35-year old batsman also emphasized on giving importance to those who have been performing well in domestic cricket. “Four day cricket is important, this is the format that can produce players for red-ball cricket for Pakistan,” he said.

The batsman, since his return after serving a ban, has been decent with his performance at domestic level. However, he has yet to get another chance to represent Pakistan once again. “I am not the selector, I can’t answer on who’s picked and who is not,” he said.

I agree. This was not the time to select honest, hard-working youngsters. This was the time to reward old, below par match fixers. I mean in a high profile series like this, think of all the money this fixer could have made. I would bring a loss of earnings claim against the PCB in his position

What a sense of entitlement.. please stay away.i hope pcb is not stupid enough to select how him.

Salman Butt should have been selected for the last Australian tour but as he's 35+ now, that ship has sailed and he should live with it.

Give Salman Butt a chance

I know this guy is not very popular around here but seriously give him a chance okay he maybe 35 but cant do any worser especially in test matches than the bag of crap we currently have Azhar, shaan, imam, iftkhar.

His record before the ban was extremely good and was one of our best openers (only proper genuine opener we have had since saeed anwar),

I think he has paid his dues and is slogging it out in domestic cricket (where he a decent record) unlike that greedy waste of space Mohammed Amir who has not learnt his lesson and once again turned his back on his country for a quick buck.

My recommendations:

In
Salman Butt
Sami Aslam
Fawad Alam
Gohar

Out
Misbah (needs to be gone asap) BIG BIG mistake appointment
Waqar
Azhar
Intikhar
Imran Khan

If he had another 5 years of international cricket left in him, I could have considered it possibly. Now it's a complete non-starter. Absolutely atrocious suggestion.

Why are we always looking at 5 years in the future we need to start winning matches now and not keep trying to groom players for the future with each series who inevitably always end up failing anyway.

Pick the best players now who are currently performing regardless of age.

Salman Butt was an average player in tests, most of the time got out early softly at slip cordon even during his peak.

Simply because players improve by playing international cricket. Babar is a straightforward example, but more pertinently guys like Masood. In the past, the likes of Yousuf and Younis improved by playing test matches regularly.

If you keep introducing veterans into the side, there is no guarantee that they will come in and perform as there is a necessary adjustment period. However, the older you are the slower your reflexes so there is a higher probability that they will fail. It also cuts off a pathway for younger players who could reasonably come in and perform for the side over the long-term.

We have this ridiculous notion here that performances in first-class cricket should automatically translate into international cricket. Unfortunately, Pakistan has rarely produced a quality test cricketer who was picked solely on the basis of performances in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy. The difference in quality is too wide. The solution has never been to look at statistics and keep handing out test caps.

I am hoping that the new system can slightly bridge that gap over the next few years. However, until that happens we need to pick young players and hope that they possess the character and fortitude to adjust to test cricket with time.

Sami Aslam has outperformed Butt in QAE, he deserves to be selected ahead of Butt as second opener.

Azhar and Shan will occupy the other two opener spots.

Far better openers performed in the QeA trophy than him. Imran Butt or Sami Aslam along with Abid Ali. Besides I don’t like this guy’s attitude.

KARACHI : Pakistan opener and former Test captain Salman Butt has said that he feels let down by the fact that Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises are not interested in picking up despite good his good performances in domestic T20 cricket.

“I have been the second highest run scorer in domestic T20 in the past couple of season but still ignored by the PSL franchises,” Butt said while speaking to media during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match between Karachi Whites and WAPDA at the National Stadium in Karachi.

He added: “I have not been given an opportunity to represent Pakistan even though I have served my punishment and completed my rehabilitation

Butt was also disappointed over bearing the brunt of mistakes made by other while he also reiterated that he played no role in PSL spot-fixing scandal in the second season.

“I was not involved in PSL spot-fixing scandal,” he said. “It is disappointing to see that I am suffering because of the mistakes made by others.”

Butt also criticised Pakistan selection committee, headed by Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq, for not including him in the Pakistan-A side despite promising to do so.

“The selection committee is consistently ignoring me,” he said. “Chief Selector Inzamam promised that he will give me a chance in the Pakistan-A side but that is yet to materialise.”

Butt is currently leading WAPDA in the QeA Trophy and was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the round one match against Karachi Whites.

Wow what a moaner. Taking away my hatred for Salman Butt there are better openers in terms of test ie Imran Butt, Abid ali and Sami Aslam.

Just trying to get some money are we salman to join the PSL? I hope the crowd boos you till their lungs are sore.

I would rather see Shan stay on...ps there is guys like Abid ,Sami &?Khurrum ahead of him & probably a dozen more too plus some youngsta beauties like Haider & Omair coming through as well

Salman Butt belongs to the past, not a very good past but the past nonetheless.

level of hypocrisy is unbelievable u guys welcomed amir back with open arms and he still turned his back on the country for the second time for extra money to play in leagues around the world, but that is okay because he is the darling of the nation and can do no wrong.

It would be something if Misbah selects both Fawad and Salman for their experience. The whole PP community will go mad that day.

Salman Butt was the CAPTAIN of the team hence he was the ringleader. Amir was just the sheep. He was only 17 years old so he had to obey the commands his captain gave him. You can't blame Amir as much as Butt.

I actually suspect that he might, and I’m braced for Salman Butt to be the skipper.

As much as I thought that Butt should have toured Australia 3 years ago, I don’t believe in EVER calling up a guy aged over 31. Never ever ever.

Most of the guys you think are 27, and probably 31 and over.

You can add a minimum of 3 years to everyones age. Minimum.

Anyone but Salman Butt! I would even accept the two embarrassments, Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal, in the team ahead of him. Even though I consider them to be totally unprofessional, at least they aren't self-serving, manipulative cheats like Salman Butt. He isn't even that good a cricketer on top of that.

Khurram , really ?, why not Imran Butt, 2nd highest scorer so far in QeA trophy.

And who told you this?

Would prefer an opening of Imran Butt and Sami Aslam but we probably would get Salman Butt and Shan Masood with Fawad Alam in the middle.

True but in the same match Zeeshan Ashraf hit 141. I think Salman Butt time is done, there are younger openers who are performing as well if not better than him.

The match had 8 hundreds in a dour draw, so we can safely say it wasn't too challenging a pitch...

If Fawad, despite being only a year younger than him can get selected than Salman should not get disheartened at all.

You look at his last few innings in England (esp against Australia) ; you can see why he could easily have been a 40+ avg player atm. Mentally tough ; and his balance, stability and timing was perfect. But unfortunately...

Surely Salman Butt is too old: the only international batsman his age who hasn’t retired yet is Azhar Ali.

Forget the ethical argument: surely Imam and Sami offer a ten year career and Shan Masood offers you five years.

Why pick a guy whose time would be twelve months, maximum, and who would then create a headache by retiring at the same time as Azhar and Shafiq.

It would be madness to recall him.

Ethical argument is a moot points. Butt is a 36 year old, who hasn't played internal cricket in a decade and even when he did, had a test average of 25 outside Pakistan

I'm surprised people ever thought it was a good idea to bring him back.

Yea he really showed us what he's capable of averaging 16 in the last series he played while batting at number 3 for most of it.

I think he would've given Virat Kohli a run for his money. No literally a run for his money with the wealth he would've accumulated selling your country.

its funny how all the guys who don't perform in domestic want to talk directly to the Prime Minister when they're not selected

Did he also ask to speak to the prime minister when he decided to sell those no balls in 2010?
