KARACHI : Pakistan opener and former Test captain Salman Butt has said that he feels let down by the fact that Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises are not interested in picking up despite good his good performances in domestic T20 cricket.

“I have been the second highest run scorer in domestic T20 in the past couple of season but still ignored by the PSL franchises,” Butt said while speaking to media during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match between Karachi Whites and WAPDA at the National Stadium in Karachi.

He added: “I have not been given an opportunity to represent Pakistan even though I have served my punishment and completed my rehabilitation

Butt was also disappointed over bearing the brunt of mistakes made by other while he also reiterated that he played no role in PSL spot-fixing scandal in the second season.

“I was not involved in PSL spot-fixing scandal,” he said. “It is disappointing to see that I am suffering because of the mistakes made by others.”

Butt also criticised Pakistan selection committee, headed by Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq, for not including him in the Pakistan-A side despite promising to do so.

“The selection committee is consistently ignoring me,” he said. “Chief Selector Inzamam promised that he will give me a chance in the Pakistan-A side but that is yet to materialise.”

Butt is currently leading WAPDA in the QeA Trophy and was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the round one match against Karachi Whites.

He doesn't deserve selection by any metric, there are those who have performed better than him and are younger.

Good.

That's what they should do.

We have better, younger, and less corrupt players. Be happy you're allowed in domestics.

No. I have been his supporter but his performance has dropped much. There are better options out there to try first.

Take the hint.

Even if you only look at performance, he has been poor so please go away.

Aw cry me a river.

It's no wonder the PSL franchises won't go near him given his history of fixing and then constantly lying about it. Why even take a risk with such a person when you have millions invested in your business.

Just because your ban has ended you can't force an employer to employ you or a selector to select you. Sorry but that's life.

I can imagine this being the situation...

You are finished Butt so move on like another cheat, Asif. At least Danny Kaneria can't play the religious card anymore. It is Amir who got real lucky for sure.

Ship has sailed, you know English so be a pundit and make money.

Is Salman Butt still in the fray for the national side? Well I don't think he will be picked again to represent Pakistan. Should just concentrate on domestic cricket and leagues around the world, if he gets picked.

instead of being happy he is allowed to play domestic cricket, he's still trying to sneak his way into consideration for the national side who he spat on. he should NEVER come close to wearing the pakistan colors again. and the media should grow a brain and stop giving him a platform

The alarming info in his statement is - CS promised him a place in A team!!!!!

That's why I am a firm believer that CS position is an obsolete role in modern cricket (in any sports). It should be Head Coach/Manager & Captain for National team, A team & at every junior level. There will be scouts, and chief scout should report to Manager/Head Coach. Long, long back (I am talking about 1920s & earlier), when International Soccer was at it's raw stage, there was no Manager/Coach - a "Selection Panel" composed of former players & prominent current players used to pick a squad to play International friendlies. Even in Copa America, till 1920s, they did similar - then Olympics allowed pro footballers to participate in 1924, then FIFA WC started in 1930s, which led to dedicated National Manager, and by 1930, most top International sides were picked by the Manager, not selection panel. In that regard, Cricket is actually a century behind soccer - still foolishly carrying a high profile position of authority, without accountability.

Reports say he's A team captain. If true it's the worst decision possible.

He’s far too old.

Pakistan might have won at Brisbane and Melbourne 20 months ago with Asif and Butt in the team. But that was the last chance.

so a player like fawad alam with higest FC average is still waiting for his chance and inzamam has selected this fixer again ?

I must say it really takes some guts to average 23 in a QEA Trophy season and cry about not getting selected. But then again this is Salman Butt

He should just stop talking and focus on scoring runs.

Akhtar in a recent interview on GEO Super mentioned that he had been lobbying for forgiving Salman Butt with the PCB for a while and had been asking them as to why were they ignoring him when he was scoring decent runs in domestic cricket.

The PCB officials were like "You think he only spot fixed and fixed matches on the England tour in 2010?". They then spoke about the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in 2010, the T-20 WC in the WI in 2010 and a few other games in Australia and else where and afterwards he put his hand up and said i have no counter arguments.

I am personally an advocate of second chances but i don't think Butt is really scoring mountains of eye catching run in domestic cricket to justify selection, besides the game has changed massively since 2010 so it is unclear whether he will have any success in the modern era.

If i were Butt, i would just try to maximize my earnings in domestic cricket, in leagues all over the world while at the same time assessing options outside cricket now. His English was so good that had he stay on the straight line he could have been a commentator, he can still get expert gigs here or there. Getting an education could be another option but doing a bachelors and then a masters in when you are 30 is questionable.

Maybe he can look into doing a business

Cricket fixers are like drink drivers - when they get caught according to them it’s always the first time that they did it, yep they never ever did it in the past.

Man, these TTFs crying every now and then sure know their stats well.

Naaa Pakistan cricket team is fine with bringing in new faces and talented youngsters. Why destroy this trend by bringing in Salman Butt.

Lol what did he think? That theyd welcome him back with open arms

His intnl career is over Time he accepted it and moved on

the funny thing is that if you totally forget and ignore the whole spot-fixing scandal (just play along for a minute), even then he doesnt justify a place in the team because his performances have been atrocious

In my opinion he was the ring leader in the 2010 saga.

He should of been banned for life from any Pakistan cricket setting. Point blank.

If he’s been given the captaincy for the A team then I’m sorry but Pakistan cricket admins are a joke and is proof, selection is down to contacts and politics opposed to performance and hard work.

I think he got his ban by ECB, and you cannot be banned twice.

Even though i dont want Butt to play for Pakistan, but when you see Amir playing, you can't argue with the corruption point

Wow, bechara Salman.

Inshallah he will be continued to be ignored and he will serve as a very pertinent example for any future players who consider selling their country up the river in exchange for a few pennies.

Listen Butt. You’re a rubbish player and a cheat. You are not playing for Pakistan again so stop whinging and shut the hell up.

Someone tell this man that he is not any good. Was mediocre even when he was in his prime across all format and he's certainly not in his prime anymore.

The real irony f this thread is reaction of postors who supported amnesty for amid. Such double standards.!!

May be because you arent good enough? Your performances after your return havent been good enough to win back your place in the side. Asif on the other hand can complain because he has shown a little bit that he has the same magic but age is against him.

133 today for KPK - Butt Sahib asking questions of selectors

If given a chance, I’ll emerge as match winner, says Salman Butt

LAHORE - Pakistan reliable opening batsman Salman Butt has said that if he is given chance in any format, he will emerge as match winner.

Talking to The Nation, Salman Butt said that he is fit and practising hard to deliver for the national team in any given format. “I have been playing cricket continuously and in a good form while my domestic track record clearly indicates about my fitness and performances. My job is to perform, which I have been successfully doing while rest is on the PCB and selectors, what they decide about me.”

He said that now he is keen to deliver in the 5th edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), which helped many players in getting place in the national team. “I am a Lahorite and I want to see Lahore Qalandars this time play their best cricket and emerge as triumphant. I am eager to play key role in helping Qalandars team register crucial victories and ultimately win the PSL-5 trophy.”

The opening batsman said that he was live in a television program, when he received call from PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars, that he was included in the squad. “It was really big news for me, as I had been waiting since long to play cricket in front my cricket fans and impress them with my performances.”

When asked about new domestic structure, the PCB is going to introduce, Salman Butt said that although the old domestic structure was producing better results, yet he is ready to be part of the new one and keen to deliver in it as well. “The Prime Minister has brought in with a vision, and hopefully, it may provide better results for Pakistan.”

Pakistan will play Sri Lanka Test in Lahore or Karachi in September this year. But said that if the selectors provide him chance against Sri Lanka, he will not disappoint them and try to give out his best and help the team score crucial triumph against the visitors.

PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan has said that the players, who had begged pardon from the nation and also had a PCB rehabilitation program, they will be allowed to play cricket for Pakistan. Salman Butt said that he has already done both these things and now he is looking for a chance to deliver for the team and country.

Old structure was providing better results? We never tried any new system so better to what? Most of the current and upcoming stars of Pak cricket arent even direct products of domestic cricket.

Pakistan cricketers come out with some absolute nonsense as soon as a microphone is put infront of their face. Just for his inability to think straight he needs keeping away from the field.

If I were him, forget about giving media statements, I would have gone into oblivion in some other country where no one recognises me, out of embarrassment.

The entitlement he feels to represent the country again after the whole fixing saga is just pathetic.

Never in favour of any fixer being allowed to represent country again.
Allow them to play domestic and conduct awareness workshops, let them apply for coaching/umpiring certifications etc. so that they can earn livelihood and give back.

But never let them wear the green shirt again.

Same should have been done with Wasim by Justice Qayyum and this situation with Amir/Asif/Sharjeel etc. would never have happened

He was such a mediocre player in his prime and he's well past it at this point.

30.46 average in 62 innings in Tests (only 3 hundreds). Come on, even Ahmed Shehzad is better than you which is not saying a whole lot.

As for LOI, only way his horrific SR would play nowadays would be on a team like Zimbabwe.

He’s far too old.

He’s the same age as Azhar Ali and both are too old for international cricket.

Salman Butt would have been useful from Australia in December 2016 to South Africa in January 2019.

But you can’t bring back a batsman at an age at which 95% of batsmen are in decline.

He was turning out to be a decent opening batsman during those days. Obviously should never be allowed back in after he decided to fix a match under his own captaincy.

he shld put his head down and beat himself for rest of his life...
1) Won a test vs Aus for pak after 20 years
2) 2 GOAT potential fast bowlers in his squad
3) 1 ATG spinner (at that time atleast) in his squad
4) Above average , more than decent 4th bowler
5) With Younis/Yousaf coming back, a great batting line up
6) age on his side

and he let all tht go....
now its done and dusted... he is way way way down the picking order even if we forget what shame he brought to the nation

107* at the moment for Central Punjab vs Balochistan in Round 3 of QEA

Shouldn't be allowed to play FC cricket. Disgraceful he is playing in the QeA trophy.

The more runs he scores, the more the pressure will increase on the PCB.

It will be interesting to see who the selectors go for as the opening duo in Tests.

Question is to PCB is Butt better than imam or shan who are both unproven at test level yet.

Never want to see him play cricket ever again

His time is up. He should consider himself lucky if he gets chances in the PSL

There is no pressure on PCB, they will not consider him.

Salman has no space currently. Pakistan has Imam, Fakhar, Sharjeel, Shan, Abid etc.

Surely Salman Butt is too old: the only international batsman his age who hasn’t retired yet is Azhar Ali.

Forget the ethical argument: surely Imam and Sami offer a ten year career and Shan Masood offers you five years.

Why pick a guy whose time would be twelve months, maximum, and who would then create a headache by retiring at the same time as Azhar and Shafiq.

It would be madness to recall him.

I'm glad you won't ask for him to be recalled anymore!
