Akram stated this and i think he is basically referring to Imad Wasim who is his captain at KK.

Pakistan One Day cup started in domestic cricket, and Imad Wasim, who is angry at Babar for not selecting him and bashing him on tv did not go to that domestic tournament stating that he has tv commitments and also has t20 commitments.

Could Imad now have a falling out with Akram?

Why is Imad angry? Imad doesn't play 50 overs game anymore. He should stick to T20 game. He will be playing for Pakistan in the next WT20.

Maybe we should pull up the stats of last year’s 50 over domestic cup to add context to our Chief selector’s and captain’s World Cup squad selection

Then let’s see if it’s worth playing this tournament if you want to play for Pakistan

Imad Wasim and Amir need to be kept as far away as possible from the Pakistan national cricket team.

Any format.

Keep these two out. Don’t even let them come near the national players.

Not only they’re epitome of mediocrity (with Imad having no talent) they’re also super toxic.

Imad is a bits and pieces player, an inferior option to Shadab (who equally doesn't deserve a place in the 11).

He can deliver tight overs in limited overs cricket against the second string international sides, but will have little impact against the top sides. He's an ok fielder but nothing spectacular by today's standards.

Sub par as a batsman and at best can play second fiddle at the crease alongside an established batsman. Cannot farm strike with the tail, cannot finish games or pinch hit in the end overs.

As a batsman Shadab > Imad, as a bowler Imad > Shadab = two incompetent all rounders!

Amir is retired and he has clearly said he don't want to make a come back he's happy playing leagues

Its really easy for guys like Akram to sit on TV and rant about things

You could play every domestic tournament in Pakistan these days. Bowl your heart out. Bat like a champion year after year

But if you don’t fall into the mix with Babar+Rizwan and co..

You won’t play for Pakistan

Seemed more like a rant in a bad mood then proper analysis.

Problem with this program is that the players think they are the Grandfathers of Pakistan cricket.

Which they are not.

They server the people of Pakistan and we decide who is good or bad not them.

Imad Wasim is an educated guy who was born in England. If he cannot control his primal urges, I believe there is a fundamental defect in Pakistani parenting that effectively nullifies socioeconomic status and education.

Once this World Cup ends for Pakistan, NO one will have a moral advantage or right to not put down the other.

The team has done so badly that we will fight with a clean slate

I expect same to be the case when it comes to team selection.

Wasims point is that if you are hungry and keen to play for Pakistan, you should be doing all the right things ie focusing on your cricket, playing domestic cricket and performing rather than sit at home and crying about injustice.

Yeah no thanks

Nothing to fight for within with this management

If New Zealand chases in 25 overs:- Pakistan will need to win by 335 runs.- NO CHANCE if England opts to bat.

That's too much work, play domestic cricket, do the hard grind.... or even worse be outperformed by other youngsters.

Imad feels entitled for his place in the 11!

Exactly that word.

Entitled.

Wasim Akram has a point. The domestic season is on so why else are you choosing to be on TV over putting the hard yards in?

Imad had a chance to really show the world that Babar made the wrong decision to pick Nawaz but he took the easy route instead.

Imad has no fitness
No performances
Doesn’t play the domestic

Yet he feels entitled to be in the team and be the captain too.

Keep him away - as far away as possible.

If your talking about merit would you give sharjeel khan, Shan masood, sarfaraz ahmed, and fahim Ashraf?

I guess so no

But these guys are grinding it in domestic and have been top performers but because they are not in babars circle they will not get a chance

Which means PCB needs to mend the selection process. That's a management issue, not a domestic cricket issue.

The solution isn't missing domestic competition.

Imad is a 35 year old with limited time left in his career and he needs to do what is best for himself and his family.

Next intl 50 over tournament is 2 yrs away for which he likely won't be considered anyway but with franchise performance he may be considered for WT20 ahead of Nawaz at the moment.

Fans should get out of this 'prove others wrong' mindset. Analysis panels should also stop these moral sermons to players that basically say go 'play county/domestic long form and improve your game'.

It is Imad's decision what he wants to do with his career. No need for an analyst or ex cricketer to comment on it.

It is choice to do what he wants for his career.

But when an active player (who wants to be in the team) chooses to be on TV when he could be on the pitch then he is damaging his own image.

I find it incredible that we are making excuses for players not doing the basics.

All Wasim is suggesting is that players who want to play….should play. Seems pretty obvious Imad should be choosing that over a TV career even if he is 35.

Jee Wasim Bhai, very easy to talk and insult fans who ask questions on the show isn’t it? How many ODI’s have the top 5-10 run scorers of the 2022-23 cup played for Pakistan?

-Mohammad Harris at number 25 in this list has been preferred over everyone else to be in the reserves!

-Iftikhar Ahmed at number 37 has played nearly every ODI for Pakistan in the past 2-3 years. Is that your standards of playing this tournament in order to play for Pakistan Wasim bhai?

-Saud Shakeel and Abdullah Shafique are nowhere to be seen on this list either. What domestic (in Pakistan) have they played to bat in highly important positions for the country in this World Cup?

-Where is Mohammad Rizwan’s elite stats at number 4 for him in this tournament for him to be given the all important position held by legends of Pakistan such as Miandad and Inzimam?

Jee Wasim bhai? You wanna insult players and fans more?

Who is going to be next CS?

My hunch is - it might be Moin.

Wasim is conveniently forgetting that he and Waqar used to go to play full county seasons and PCT had to play without them and once they were back they would come into the playing 11. This happened in late 90s, i am forgetting the exact years but there were at least couple of them where they were gone for the whole season.

County is proper Test or first class cricket. They played cricket which mattered.

And they were accomplished legends with great performances.

Imad is a nobody with zero standing in worldwide cricket. He’s not playing any 50 overs format. Sticking to some low level t20leagues? When 50 overs tournament is ON and you hope to play 50 overs World Cup or matches?

Not going to happen.

Imad Wasim would have been great in the current world cup squad. Perfect fit at 7; good powerplay bowler replacement for Naseem and an excellent batsman who could play clutch innings and play the power hitting role well. Insane that he wasn't selected.

I don't blame Imad for not playing the domestic 50 over competition either... since when has domestic performances been a factor in selection? PCB are idiots, they don't care about QAE trophy or 50 over cup... they only look at PSL.

Nobody wanted Saim Ayub in the world cup squad because of his domestic 50 over performances... they want gaga over his games in CPL. The message the PCB has been sending out is clear.... domestic cricket does not matter.

Imad made himself available for this World Cup.

Watch the interview I did with him where he said he was available.

The next World Cup is in 4 years time - I don't see Imad playing in that World Cup. What would he get from playing in the Pakistan Cup.
There is champions trophy in 2025.

Nonsensical analysis. We should look at their domestic participant BEFORE they joined the Pakistan team. Obviously they cannot be playing domestic if they are with the team.
Ifti, Babar, Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Fakhar, Agha Salman had A LOT of great experience in domestic cricket and had done really well at that level before they were selected in the Pakistan team. Abdullah has 2 seasons of FC but not much experience in List A, but he was exceptional in FC and test cricket.
Mohd Haris is the only apt example you shared. I agree that Haseebullah could have been a better choice here for ODIs, if not Saifi for this WC.

Pak fans, I hate to break it to you but this top 7 ARE the best batters in this country. There is no Brian Lara left at home.

I laugh when I see this being suggested. Imad has done more than enough to prove that he's Pakistan best all-rounder. His runs with the bat and tight bowling (particularly in the powerplay overs) could've been the difference between a group stage exit and an appearance in the semi-finals.

I’d be supportive if Amir and Imad played county instead

So then what’s Wasim’s point? Why is he bashing Amir and Imad for not playing the domestic cup if there is no point of performing in it because ‘this top 7 is the best in the country’?

I am just pointing out that it’s not true that the current Pakistani top 7 batters weren’t domestic stalwarts. They were. The data you shared seems to suggest that these players were plucked out of thin here. That’s not true. If Agha Salman were dropped, I can bet you that he will go and play domestics again to get back.
As for Wasim Akram and his comment, he is not wrong. Why aren’t Imad and Amir playing the Pakistan Cup.

I think Wasim has become a bit grumpy - we need to remember he’s in his mid 50s.

Seems to have a problem with most things.

What are you on about? I’m simply arguing that the top 15-20 scorers in that list have played next to none ODI cricket for Pakistan in the past 18 months. So what exactly is the point of performing in these tournaments? I haven’t argued that the top 7 in that list should be the top 7 of Pakistan. I’m arguing that they haven’t even played a single ODI game to reward their performances. We played against West Indies, Australia B and New Zealand C since the 2022-23 Pakistan cup. Those top run scorers didn’t play a single game against those sides

I understand what you’re saying now. There should be better rotation policy to provide more chances.
That said, Saud, Agha, Ifti, Rizwan, Babar and Abullah also made their place in National side after performing heavily in domestic.
In national team, usually 1 or 2 slots open up and players have to wait for a chance. It’s not true that domestic performance doesn’t count.

Right, so are you arguing that this is now going to be a cycle motion?

The current top 7 are not good enough to win a World Cup (fact). Pakistan will replace it with a top 7 who they think will be good enough in 4 years….and selection for these spots will cease 18 months prior to a World Cup?

The last 18 months and the fact that good domestic performances not being rewarded have reinforced the argument that it really doesn’t matter how well you perform in domestics. You cannot deny this

But they were playing long format domestic cricket right? They were not playing tamasha leagues and ranting on tv

That is not the point, the point is that they were putting their financial wellbeing ahead of the country and were expecting to waltz in the team once they were free from making big bucks in the county and now others are doing it and they want them to play domestic first? They were not even playing for the national team themselves, which to me is very hypocritical, and for argument sake let's say I agree that these guys are not playing the longer format, will they be accepted in the T20 team? I believe Rauf never played FC, but he is in the longer format team but these guys are not.

Imad Wasim and Amir need to be kept as far away as possible from the Pakistan national cricket team.

Not only they’re epitome of mediocrity (with Imad having no talent) they’re also super toxic.
I'm sorry, Amir is not mediocre. He had the potential and made mistakes, but talent-wise he was special.

Where is the fascination and logic in bringing back mid 30 players like Imad and Sarfraz?

Where is the fascination and logic in brining back convicted players like Sharjeel and Akmal?

Where is the fascination amd logic in anointing players for sainthood based on domestic FC stats?

You never pick the right stats in Cricket, you always pick the personality first!

I can't see PCB picking a 36 year old for that tournament.

Playing in country cricket improves your skills. Playing in tamasha leagues and ranting on tv doesn’t.
Wasim and Waqar became better bowlers playing in the country and attribute their grooming, skill development to county cricket. Many cricketers do. Both also have taken hundreds of test wickets for Pakistan. Please don’t compare Amir and Imad to Wasim and Waqar. I think Imad and Amir should be in Pakistan team. But their attitude is partly to blame here as well. They chose to be on a lame show vs playing FC and Pakistan cup.

Not really right. How did Saud, Agha and Abullah got selected in Pakistan team? Were they performing on their streets.
Again, it’s hard to get a chance as there are 1 or 2 slots opening up every few years

Here is the thing, when you leave your country playing 11 for the county especially when your country needs you, then high moral ground is lost forever. I don't care whether the county improves your cricket and tamasha league doesn't, but after doing what these guys did you cannot lecture others. You may be young to have not followed cricket in the late 90s but without the two Ws the team's bowling attack was pretty depleted and they didn't give two hoots about it.

Imad Wasim destroyed his own career and blames it on babar
Utter rubbish once again from you.

You keep posting on this forum as if you are the voice of authority and only your opinion matters.

I think you will find Imad is in a good place at the moment and enjoying his cricket. Just because some people criticise aspects of Pakistan cricket which many of us do, that doesn't mean people are bitter or blaming.

1 or 2 spots for what?

Is your team regularly scoring 380+ scores like the world’s best teams? The pitches in Pakistan are flatter than the ones in India…so what exactly have the top 7 that are locked in achieving?

I dont have issues in whatever cricket Imad wants to play.

But if he is going to sit on tv and whine about why he is dropped, than offcourse he will get criticized for it. Players that actually want to improve themselves or make a comeback to the team go back to their clubs and even play grade 2 cricket.

Imad still goes on tv programs and whines about communication gap. Everyone can see his bowling sucks. He got dropped because of his poor bowling. You dont need that to be communicated to you. After Pakistan lost to India, the Host of the show, where Imad was sits, was posting stupid videos where Babar Azam's AI generated videos were broadcasted where he is singing sad Indian songs and Amir and Imad are seen giggling on that. That is unprofessional.

All the shows he did with GEO are there.

Wasim Akram was spot on with what he said. If you want to play for Pakistan, than there is a 50 overs tournament going in Pakistan, go and play. Infact, one user asked this from Imad on the GEO show to which Imad said he had T10 commitments. Everyone on social media laughed at his commitments while still wanting to play for Pakistan.

Anyways, if Sheikh Shakil is back in PCB, Imad will be bought back to the team.

No Wasim Akram wasn’t spot on.

I’ve argued thoroughly that Pakistan doesn’t value domestic performances for national selection.

Imad is the mentally toughest cricketer we have produced in the last 7 or 8 years.

If he was captain we'd have won last 2 T20 WCs and be in the semis just now. Brit Paks are mentally far stronger than paindu normal guys who inhabit our team.

Nope he would had not.

For the last 8 years we are seeing the same tamasha. If Imad doesnt do well, bring in in Nawaz, if Nawaz doesnt do well bring in Imad. Both of them cant spin the ball and just bowl darters. And if Pakistani management learned something from this world, is it that dont go for spinners that cannot even spin the ball. Enough of these part timers. Imad played the whole World T20 2021.

Bro, Iftikhar, Saud Shakil and Salman Agha are playing in the team because of domestic performance. Usama Mir was infact selected earlier in the year based on his bowling in domestic performance.

Thing is, you improve your cricket by playing on the field not on tv commentating.

Thing is, its all about making money. Even Shoaib Malik sat on his show saying he is available for selection for World T20 but at the same time giving preference towards Franchise leagues over Pakistan's domestic leagues giving excuses of you learn all this instead of just admitting leagues offer a better pay cheque.

As for Saim Ayub, if he is selected for Pakistan team without domestic experience, he will end up like Haider Ali. Domestic experience is required

Just imagine if Imad and Amir had been selected and we still finshed where we are( which is where we finished in 2019) then you can imagine people saying why have they picked a match fixer who has around 34 and a guy that bowls gentle inswing and is also around 34. They would have made no difference because we are where our talent and attitude deserve to be.

Easier said now isn’t it?

How can you harp on about your country being the number 1 side in the world whilst admitting there is absolutely nothing on the bench or back home?

But you dont lose your job if it goes pear shaped. You will quietly disappear and not post for an hour or 2 and pretend you never said it( AA). Babar made the decision, it didnt pay off and will now pay the price. Its accountability and he is accountable.

I couldn't care less what any guys are saying on tv. It's all for show and ratings.

I want what's best for Pakistan cricket.

At the moment our cricket is mediocre, players are overrated, captaincy very average.

Regarding Imad. Dropped for what exactly? He's in the T20 team, doesn't play ODIs or Tests. So what has he been dropped in?

As for spin options. Pakistan's spinners have been an utter shambles at this World Cup.

Shoaib Malik who is sitting right next to Wasim Akram also said that he wants to be part of next year's T20 WC team.

Select him, Hafeez, Amir and Imad and anyone else that looks a world beater after not playing for a while.

The players who are still active and willing to get back to the team should not go as an experts on media channels. It happens only in Pakistan cricket that players like Imad & Shoaib Malik appearing on media channels, criticising the team & management openly and still wants to wants to come back

PCB at it again.

They give these guys approval to sit on these channels.

Malik should also be playing the Pakistan Cup. In fact if they were available they both should have played QeA.

This thread epitomises a loser mentality among Pakistanis. If we lose our jobs we don’t work harder to better ourselves and prove others wrong. That would be too hard.

Instead we complain to anyone who listens about conspiracies and zati and “dosti yaari”. That way we feel like the little we do is enough already.

It’s their own domestic cricket and they could have easily proved they are leagues above their competition (if that is even the case). It would also have shown their firm commitment towards their cause.

But apparently Malik and Imad only want to play when it suits them because they expect selection to be handed over on a silver platter.

An Australian who still wanted to play for his country would never skip the domestic season for a TV show. That’s the Pakistani mentality for you.

Can you share an example?

Even though Malik has retired from one day, but I actually agree, that if you want to play for Pakistan, than play every cricket that comes your way in your country

Misbah was playing grade 2 cricket for Faisalabad region i think in 2017. Infact, he also mentioned on the show with A Sports that Iftikhar and Rizwan return back to their club and start practicing as soon as they return from an international tour.

Yousuf did the same damage to himself when he played very little domestic cricket towards the end of his career and at one point there became an issue to whether to adjust him in lahore region for t20 or not. Yousuf had a good few years but he basically gave up not wanting to work hard.

Alot of these guys are going the same route.

1 or 2 spots for what?

Is your team regularly scoring 380+ scores like the world’s best teams? The pitches in Pakistan are flatter than the ones in India…so what exactly have the top 7 that are locked in achieving?

May I give you a reality check. The best lot is already with the team.
Apart from Sharjeel and Saim, there are no batters in Pakistan cricket even worth trying ahead of the ones already in the team.
Potentially, you could pair Sharjeel/Saim with Fakhar. For this to happen, ABD and Haris would have to be sacrificed. Even though both Haris and ABD have shown potential in PSL and they should be persisted with.

Outside of that, I am not sure where the Klassen and Maxwell are that aren’t getting any chances.
Attaching Pakistan Cup 2023. Look at the strike rate in our mediocre domestic tournaments against average bowlers. Everyone has a strike rate below 90. They are even worse!!
Who is not getting chance? Tayyab Tahir (77 SR), Kamran Ghulam (85 SR), Haseebullah (77 SR). If Imam played this tournament, he would look like Gordon Greenwich here.

It’s true that our domestic performance criteria is not always respected. But this shouldn’t be an excuse to not play it altogether.

I like Imad Wasim quite a lot, but you can’t be expected to be selected from performances in T10 cricket. Come prove yourself and make yourself available for selection.

How can you give me a reality check whilst being at liberty with reality yourself?

Your totally missing the point of the argument.

1. Wasim Akram rants about active players who wish to play for Pakistan sitting on TV shows whilst not playing the domestic season going on.

2. Rana on PakPassion challenges Akram to not complain for the sake of it and understand that the current management under Babar Azam, since the chairmanship of Ramiz Raja up until now GIVE ZERO importance to actual domestic performers.

+Rana provided a stat from the 2022-2023 domestic cup that took place last year

+Rana argued that the top 24 in that list have played next to none ODI cricket for Pakistan, whereas number 25 in that list was given the go ahead as Pakistan’s traveling reserve.

+Number 37 in that list was playing ODI cricket regularly for Pakistan in the past 2 years.

It’s a plain and simple argument and you are over complicating it by saying that Akram has every right to tell people who wish to play for Pakistan to go and waste their time in this domestic cup…even though the cup itself has no bearing whatsoever on actually having a shot to play for Pakistan.

Instead, you try to give me a supposed reality check of the domestic cup that is taking place currently in the midst of the World Cup? How does this current tournament have any bearing right now especially considering there is NO ODI Cricket for Pakistan in the next 12 months?? Are these players performing in it right now suddenly going to be called up to play for Pakistan in this World Cup if the need arises? It’s one of the most pointless tournaments which has absolutely zero reward, besides just keeping guys active and healthy playing recreational sport!

PCB is an unstable organisation with continuous changes but these players are there in international setup since many years. They have played lot of leagues cricket all over the world, they should learn few things from their peers instead of crying on media channels and playing victim card

Imad Wasim is an educated guy who was born in England. If he cannot control his primal urges, I believe there is a fundamental defect in Pakistani parenting that effectively nullifies socioeconomic status and education.
How educated is he? These days high school level education doesn’t count.

wasim is like an old angry man who has no patience for pak fan questions or comments

I want to address your remark that performance in domestic tournaments is 'pointless.' It's not as extreme as you're portraying it. The list you shared is irrelevant since the active playing 11 can't participate in domestic cricket, placing them outside the top 30. However, if you look back far enough you will find that Ifti, Babar, and Rizwan were some of the top performers in List A and FC.

Even if Imad and Amir featured in Pakistan Cup, then it would have made it very hard to ignore them as they already have a lot of support. They are just shooting themselves in their foot by wasting their careers.

Players like Abdullah, Agha, and Saud Shakeel earned their chances based on domestic performances. While I agree that domestic performance should hold more weight in Pakistan team selection, it's not the sole reason for Pakistan's World Cup struggles. Domestic cricket lacks players of the caliber of Glenn Maxwell and Pandya who could help Pakistan reach scores like 380. Have a look at the ongoing Pakistan cup. Batters are playing outdated cricket with sub 90 strike rates across the board.

Perhaps Saim and Sharjeel could make a case, but overall, domestic batting appears one-dimensional. I won't delve into discussions about domestic pitches, grassroots quality, or the lack of school cricket.

In the short term, not dropping Fakhar might have made us more competitive. Our real issue, however, lies in bowling, particularly the absence of impactful spinners and new ball bowlers.

An example of a series that Wasim Akram missed to play county. Can you share
Here you go friend from wikipedia, you can find the County season dates and then tally Pakistan matches in those years during county months and you will get your examples. Doubt County Captain be there for only select matches.

In 1988, Akram signed for Lancashire County Cricket Club in England. From 1988 to 1998, he opened their bowling attack in their NatWest Trophy, Benson and Hedges Cup, and Sunday League tournaments. He was a favourite of the local British fans, who used to sing a song called "Wasim for England" at Lancashire's matches. In 1998, with Akram as captain, Lancashire won the NatWest Trophy and Sunday League and finished second in the County Championship, having lost only five matches in all competitions during the season.

Here is another one.

This is in 97 and in 98 he was Lancashire's captain, hopefully, you get the drift by now. Waqar was playing for Glamorgan and he missed games as well.

From 1996 to 2000, to the best of my recollection, Wasim Akram didn't miss any crucial Pakistan assignments for counties.
It seems like your statement was more of a guess without a specific example, and when questioned, you're suggesting I find the information myself. This assertion was made by you, not me.

I must emphasize again that county cricket is not a fair comparison to the T10 league. In the past, cricketers were often advised to go to counties to enhance their skills, a recommendation that doesn't apply to leagues like T10 in Dubai and attending shows on Tv. I would LOVE it if Ihsannullah, Amir, Shaheen and other boys prioritize playing counties instead of International T20 matches and T20 leagues.

Nobody said Imad is a fixer. Is he mediocre like Amir is now? Sure. Similarity is in performances.

No performances to back him up against the good sides, specially in ODIs. Not playing the domestic season, not playing the 50 overs format in domestic.

I'm sorry, Amir is not mediocre. He had the potential and made mistakes, but talent-wise he was special.

Amir was a special talent and was very good until 2009-10.

After his comeback, he was bowling fine under swinging conditions. But post 2017 he’s been mediocre. Can’t bowl more than 4 overs with pace or zip.

Thanks for sharing this. I still dont think it’s a good comparison. If Imad and Amir can play county cricket instead of Pakistan Cup, then that would still be acceptable. And it could count towards domestic performance.
Ranting on TV shows doesn’t.

Alright friend, guess I am not going to debate this anymore, believe we both are pretty strong in our views. Take care
