[VIDEO] Why Usman Khan would be better off playing for the UAE instead of Pakistan

Was it the right decision for Usman Khan to give up his UAE contract and play for Pakistan?

Usman Khan was the top scorer in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024, yet the management is sending him to play T20Is.

I'm wondering what's going on - he should have been played in the ODI series, not the T20I series against Australia
 
I think he will perform better in an ODI. He can't afford to hit every delivery at the international level. The ODI format suits his style of play, giving him enough time to pick and choose which deliveries to go after.
 
Give him a run as opener. Give him licence to attack and hit big as an opener like he does in PSL. If he fails then move on. He plays a different position every match. We did it for Saim, I do not know why we can’t do it for the guy who was head and shoulders then best batsman in PSL and champions cup. No idea why Farhan opened today, was a waste. I don’t mind Farhan but in no way was he anywhere near the top performers in PSL, or even champions cup.

This way we are just giving him more games pointlessly with him inevitably failing. You could actually play him as opener and figure out if he’s international standard in a shorter amount of games.

Today Babar + Rizwan = 3 runs of 5 balls collectively

Usman Khan = 4 runs of 5 balls 🫠

We need to persist with him since he's never faced short balls or such bounce before. What's more concerning is that after more than five years of international experience, Babar and Rizwan still struggled to even put 4 runs on the board

He might be rubbish. But we have few alternatives if we are committed to finding an aggressive opener. There are hardly any aggressive players that dominate in PSL and domestic.

We’ve tried Saim, who isn’t ready. We could try fakhar again who maybe we should when he returns but he is getting older and did have 36 games as an opener already and wasn’t amazing.

The rest in don’t think will be stronger than a Rizwan-Babar partnership. That will at least give platform to build on and is consistent. You’ll just have more wickets down at a similar run rate. I don’t see how Farhan or Haseebullah, Abdullah etc will be an upgrade on Rizwan-Babar. I don’t know what’s the point of breaking them up then. At least go with the option that if it actually pulls off, will give us a potential improvement.

Usman whether we like it or not is the best performing playing in pak domestic limited overs right now. Thus as your best player in domestic, we have to try to give him everything to succeed, preferable position, settled batting position.

How does an inferior player like Farhan get to open?

Give him a go in his best position, then we'll see if he is good enough or not

No, he is not a top order batter.

Depends on what you want in your team

Impact or runs?

He will score runs quickly and have a far greater impact than Babar

Who told you he isn't a top order batter?

That's where he has been successful
 
Comes across as hack, deer in headlights in front of intl bowling. Will only come good in domestic or leagues or weak bowling attacks.
Fakhar is better. Or even Saim or Shan.
 
He is a blind slogger. Not gonna do any wonders. Maybe people hyped him too much. Could be another domestic bully.

Everyone in Pakistan has habit of writing off players even before they have had enough chances to develop. Everyone seems to have a crystal ball or that “eye for talent” and blatant disregard for process and proven data-backed performance criteria.

Usman Khan literally bullied the domestic seasons. He should be playing every single ODI and T20 game until next year. If he gets consistent chances, he can be just what Pakistan needs. Question is do people have enough patience?
 
I was never sold on Usman Khan's ability as a batsman. I'm just surprised the guy ends up in run scoring charts in domestic tournaments with that technique. We can try all we want to make this work but with Usman his base is very weak so no matter how hard PCB or fanbase try he will still not succeed.

The only way Usman Khan can have a decent career is by playing red ball cricket in domestic and try batting long in there to edge out his shortcomings in technique. If he avoids red ball cricket I don't see Usman Khan lasting beyond PSL.
 
Pakistan cricket fans are polarised atm, Usman is an important case for this. Let's see which side he vindicates

hack and domestic bully this guy is. He might do well on slow and flat tracks in Pakistan but so far, he has been a walking wicket and a slogger who struggles to slog/

He will come good in t20s, these type of players usually need support and confidence from captain, something like what Surya did with samson.
 
But But he is the No. 10 in Pakistan's future tiki taka style for T20s

I've noticed everyone hates Usman Khan the most 🤣.

Like pull the rizwan cord out for god sakes and let usman Khan play. He's top scoring in domestics be it psl or champions cup or any domestic game and always comes out as the no 1 scorer.

Such a player can't just be discarded simply because rizzu must be protected.

If you pull out the rizwan cord you'd realise that after his so called 2020-2021 purple patch( and I'm being super generous when it comes to calling it a purple patch) he's been downright awful in t20.

Flunked 2022 wc and Asia cup 2022, Flunked every t20 series in 2023 and nz 2024 series in t20, bang avg in the nz c, Ireland tours, Horrible in wc 2024.

Rizzu has also been failing t20 for 2+ years now, but he gets less flack

His best bet is to continue playing leagues around the world and make a living. There was a reason why he couldn't make it to Pakistan as a young batter and had to settle for playing in the UAE. Just not cut it for quality International Cricket.

This. Saim also averaged low in T20Is. But everyone knew after seeing him play a few balls that he is quality. Soon after in another format he took apart the renowned Australian world cup winning attack in Adelaide.

With Usman after seeing a few balls. You understand he's not cut for quality International Cricket.

With all due respect, By this logic no one is.

With the exception of fakhar Zaman at his absolute peak and hypothetically saim ayub in the distant future, their isnt anyone that's going to be international standard.

Saud Shakeel is no doubt going to become a test great. He won't reach YK status, infact he's not even close, But he'll remain pakistan's best test player for the next 5 to 7 years however I dont see him ever making a solid transition to odi or t20.

Saim Ayub when onsong seems like a class act but he's still raw and fakhar is aging, 2027 wc will probs he his end.

After that from the current crop and the future upcoming crop we have the likes of

1) Salman Ali Agha( A hard working cricketer but will only be a utility cricketer, He's not talented enough to be a generational great)

2) Kamran Ghulam (Can only see him replacing Babar in tests as Babar will probs be out of the test circuit for a while, In odi and t20 no chance in hell, He'll be dropped, Besides he isn't a bang bang generational talent either)

3) Abdullah shafique (Lanat)

4) Shabzada farhan (Only good for red ball)

5) Tayyab Tahir (Has a shoddy technique just like UK and he's already 30+)

6) Haris (Hack and is likely behind usman Khan in the keeping race anyway)

7) Omair Bin Yousaf (Good prospect but overrated and won't be anything special)

8) Saad Baig (Not bad, but lol at those claiming he'll reach QDK tier)

All these guys are medicore with the exception of saim who's talented but isn't kicking off.

Atleast Usman Khan top scores in domestics and has done so twice. And this includes rizwan and babar who were a part of both cups.

Usman Khan top scored in psl with the highest average and sr.

Then he top scored in champions cup with similar numbers

Both tournaments included all our international players including Babar and rizwan.

He's a proven domestic + league performer. He can't be discarded just like that.

Rizwan has been a circus clown in t20 since 2022 and medicore in odi and tests. Babar had been an all format circus clown since 2022. Weird that these boys are harsh on usman Khan who's new?

This guy alongwith thar farhan are worse than asif ali and ifthikar chacha and even the latter 2 were bad at intl.
 
Fluke innings. He has mistimed 90% of the deliveries and looks so ungainly. This is no different to a tailender scoring some lucky runs every now and then.

He is not good enough for international cricket. We saw that at the World Cup as well. It is not like he is playing on debut.

Not convinced only when part timers came on he pounced. Against proper bowlers he struggled and when Spencer was brought back he didn't had a clue what was happening

Exactly against any decent enough intl pace bowler he looks poor.

It's a butcher ugly innings and he didn't even take the team over the line and win the match ,
 
He will be good on sub-continent pitches.

The good news is that most ICC tournaments in the near future will be in India.
 
He is good against anything around 120kph. Beyond that he's useless. His technique is also shocking for a batsmen but unlike rizwan he has a heart and tries his best. I don't mind him since the next WC will be in India. He needs to somehow improve his game against pace and the short stuff.

He can play more freely and hit those shots over the top

He looks ungainly, but he will score and quickly

Those clueless posters want to watch pretty shots need to go watch synchronised swimming or something

He should have used his head and played on merit when he passed 50 rather than brainless slogging.

Are you talking about the fans who were not happy with Afridi's batting average....and never cared about his S/R?
They wanted Afridi to be kicked out of the team .... and then their prayers were answer when Afridi was replaced by... Iftikhar Ahmed and Asif Ali (Ave 15.18).

Pakistani T20I batsmen with more than 400 runs by S/R.

He is not someone who will get success in SENA conditions, he played 15 years of cricket on knee length bounce pitches so don’t expect him to perform on any thing else , however he can be a match winner in Asian conditions.
 
If you want a develop a player to play in SENA conditions then you have to pick some highly talented batter from U19 and then keep playing him for two years in these conditions , he might just develop his game for these pitches.
 
I think Usman is a good ODI candidate but in T20s he hasn't replicated his league form yet.

I believe we’re missing out on the importance of A tours, which were significant back in the day. Organizing tours to countries like England, Australia, and South Africa and selecting players from the U19s who can adapt to these conditions would be ideal.

Simply picking players from U19 and developing them to excel on these pitches isn’t effective.

Babar has played nearly 30 matches and Rizwan 25 matches in Australia, yet they still struggle like tailenders there.
 
You’re just not convinced when you watch him bat. Footwork all over the place, balance is questionable, shots are never clean.

Sharjeel isn't coming so about time people stop mentioning him.
 
He scored runs, yes, he did but he threw away his wicket when he should have been a bit careful. His technique is flawed and he is gonna look ugly whenever he is playing some shots.

1 50 in 13-14 games should not be hyped too much. I hope he can be consistent because 1 50 after 10+ games is not acceptable.
