I don’t understand why he’s being called lucky. Isn’t he responsible for selecting the squad? He is lucky that things r working out for him without putting much efforts
It’s pretty clear, but a lot of people won’t admit it because of politics. Since Aqib was brought in by Naqvi, some people are biased against him. Plus, the internal PSL rivalries just add to the drama. On top of that, some people would rather give all the credit to Rizwan for his captaincy, which makes it even harder for Aqib to get the recognition he deserves.I think reducing the role of Gillespie and Kirsten (who eventually resigned) appears to have been well thought out and the correct one. Obviously Aaqib was waiting in the wings with a better strategy. Not only did he beat England but also the ODI’s In Australia and SAF. Appears that he knows how to develop a squad better than a foreign coach. Nobody cares about t20. doesn’t matter what the results are there but it appears that he knows what he’s doing in the main formats. The real test though is the Test series in SAF. It’s one thing to beat England on roughed up pitches at home but can he develop a winning formula on these bouncy pitches in South Africa. We will know soon enough if these series wins are just flukes.
Exactly, seems like his “luck” never runs out. I mean one series win could be called luck but FGS he has won against England, South Africa and Australia already. More than i could expect from a recent coach of Pakistan team or even most. Some people are just haters.I don’t understand why he’s being called lucky. Isn’t he responsible for selecting the squad?
He showed confidence in Saim Ayub and persisted with him, even when his performances were below expectations, which shows faith in developing talent. Additionally, his decision to bring in Kamran Ghulam has proven effective.
This reflects his strategic planning and long-term vision rather than just luck
He will, hes letting Babar and Rizwan fully expose themselves. Do you think its easy to manage egos and mafias in Pakistan cricket?Aaqib's reign has produced great results so far.
Test: 2-1 win against England.
ODI: 3 ODI series win in a row (Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa).
It is only in T20 where Pakistan struggled under him.
Aqib is using T20s to try out domestic players, just like how other countries do. You won’t see other teams playing their top players in T20s unless it’s a World Cup. It’s mostly Pakistani fans who take T20s so seriously. players like Babar, Saim, and Rizwan get rested in T20s and in series against teams like Zimbabwe not because aqib has something against them it so others could be tested.Aaqib needs to do something about T20s. Also he needs to get rid of passengers in the team like Abdullah who is good for nothing. Otherwise, he is doing a fine job so far.
He showed confidence in Saim by dropping him for Farhan vs Australia in T20Is.I don’t understand why he’s being called lucky. Isn’t he responsible for selecting the squad?

Well I can’t speak for PSL regional rivalries. I think these petty matters are specific to local fans. Many fans abroad don’t really care we just want the team to do well. He’s forward thinking in a way I never thought a Pakistani coach could be. In the sense that there is not only introduction of fresh blood but they look hungry and committed and able to switch gear. I never thought Ghulam was capable of such power hitting (I viewed him more of an accumulator) I never thought Saim was capable of soaking up pressure and playing straight (I always thought he was strictly leg side hoicking)
I think many would have given up on Harris Rauf but he’s stuck by him. (I won’t say it’s because of LQ). I think keeping Abrar is a master stroke. He looks like he belongs. He’s changed the middle order by keeping RIZBAR further down and let them accumulate. They soak up too many deliveries at the top.
I know these are also personal developments but the whole system appears to be well planned and organised. One couldn’t tell that they have undergone so much turmoil. Of course Abdullah is a weak spot as is irfan but he’s persisting and not making sudden changes which has to be commended. The real test is keeping up this intensity in the 5 day format against Rabada and co but the fact is he appears to have the boards full backing which is good. Often the board don’t buy into foreign coaches which creates real problems. But Aaqib has obviously come up with a short term winning formula and the board have backed him. This now needs to turn into long term player development. With these kinds of wins I think he can extract more from the board plus it makes the team more marketable.
If Aqib had an issue with Saim, why would aqib play him in the ODIs on the same tour?
It’s clear Aqib’s focus is on building a team for the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup. The only way to test other players is by resting the current ones.
Also, there’s a difference between resting and dropping players.
Saim flopped 25 t20 games in a row.He showed confidence in Saim by dropping him for Farhan vs Australia in T20Is.
It's actually rizwan whose riding on aqibs brilliance, if aqib drops saim and KG the next series, rizwan will have nothing to ride on. Its aqib who selects the squad not rizwan and rizwans own performances are trashAqib is a nobody. He is riding on Rizwan’s brilliant captaincy. His botched selections in T20Is says everything about his credentials.
Not happy with his work in T20is
Seems like a jobber to Babar and Rizwan
He isn’t experimenting if he has those two abominations Babar and Rizwan in his top 3You and I might take T20 matches seriously, but in reality, most countries use T20s as an opportunity to test their players at the international level.
That’s exactly what he’s doing experimenting with different players to find the right combination for the T20 World Cup. This approach helps identify which players can handle the pressure of international cricket and fit into the team's long-term strategy.
It's important to remember that we are still in the rebuilding stage after clearing out players like shadab chacha etc.. who weren’t contributing to the team’s future success. This process takes time, and using T20 matches for player development is a smart way to prepare a solid, competitive squad for a major tournament which is 2 years away
KG and Saud shakeel have impressed me the most since debut. So has saim.Kamran Ghulam’s true career began under Aqib Javed.
Comes into the side and Pakistan win 2 Tests because a panauti was dropped!
Scores an ODI hundred against Zimbabwe (standard, nothing spectacular)
Plays one of the best innings by a Pakistan batsman in ODIs for a long, loooooong time against South Africa.
Excellent work Aqib. Laanat on those who kept out Kamran for their personal means!!
Maybe Aqib is fighting a war of independence from within that we do not know about on the surface.these 2 have been given full authority by ramiz for a long time, the reason why pakiatan cricket is in this state, thanks to aqib its reshaping up again.
That it will take time you can't just drop babar and rizwan there will be a uproar on mediaHe isn’t experimenting if he has those two abominations Babar and Rizwan in his top 3
Pakistan comfortably beat Zimbabwe without those two frauds in their squad.
That’s it, that’s the template. You are a significantly stronger side without those two clowns. Either Aqib puts the foot down here or continues to come across as a hypocrite in his T20 views.
There will be no media uproar now if you remove those two frauds in T20iThat it will take time you can't just drop babar and rizwan there will be a uproar on media
But by dropping babar in 1 tests aqib has left a solid statement that he's not bigger than pakistan
Abrar also found himself under Aqib. Apparently Babar didn’t rate Abrar because he saw something in nets against him.You have to give Javid credit
he’s done amazing things for Pakistan cricket! He’s helped Rizwan a lot,
he’s made Saim play even better. Salman Agha is like a whole new player now, and bringing in Kamran Ghulam was just the cherry on top!
Joke of the century.Kamran Ghulam should either bat at no 3 replacing Babar or open replacing Abdullah.
Saud should replace Rizwan.
Both KG and Saud are better batters then Abdullah and Rizwan.
Their > Babar as well but because Babar has the records + avg + experience atm, I can't say their >>>.
It shows how rubbish rizwan is since kamran and saim have just started their careers and their all ready > Rizwan in sr and avg tally as well as overseas performances.
Their even catching up in the century quota since rizzu has like 3 odi centuries in nearly 5 years of playing for pakistan lol.
It's actually rizwan whose riding on aqibs brilliance, if aqib drops saim and KG the next series, rizwan will have nothing to ride on. Its aqib who selects the squad not rizwan and rizwans own performances are trash![]()
Abrar also found himself under Aqib. Apparently Babar didn’t rate Abrar because he saw something in nets against him.
Because Rizwan told broadcasters to give it to him behind the scenes according to theseIf they won the match, why did Kamran ghulam get Mom?
Bro you're doing that lol.The people who claimed that Rizwan is the worst captaincy appointment in Pakistan history have no choice but clutch at straws now and give all the credit to Aqib.
Remember: honesty and good character will smears prevail over agendas.
The coach influence is always secondary to the captain. How many World Cup winning coaches have received recognition compared to the captains?Bro you're doing that lol.
You're the one who stated that if Pakistan loses, it's all aqib's fault but if Pakistan wins its all thanks to the brilliance or Rizwan?
Either Aqib x Rizwan take the praise and the fall, or Aqib × Rizwan go off Scott free.
We'll see but the fact remains is that before aqib came and made squad changes + pitch curation, Pakistan hadnt won a single test series at home. The coach influence is always secondary to the captain. How many World Cup winning coaches have received recognition compared to the captains?
People who don’t like Rizwan or thought he would fail as captain are now pretending that Aqib has a big role to play in the series wins in Australia and South Africa.
He did not. Pakistan won because of the excellent captaincy of Rizwan. You can sack Aqib tomorrow and it will make zero difference, but if you sack Rizwan it will have a big negative impact on the team.
Its an aqib javed appreciation thread.Talk about AAQIB... not rizbabar or anyone else
Talkin about rizwan and babar will take this thread nowhere. We have many many many threads about them. You can go thereIts an aqib javed appreciation thread.
Unless the thread is about celebrating aqib when he was a player for pakistan back in 1990's, one can assume you mean all changes he made since the England test series.
Hence every single member of the squad that he has selected is a discussion point.
Infact I appreciate @Rana For making this thread is this is easily PP's most open thread when it comes to player talk as long as aqib is around.
Let's look at the facts so farTalkin about rizwan and babar will take this thread nowhere. We have many many many threads about them. You can go there
The coach influence is always secondary to the captain. How many World Cup winning coaches have received recognition compared to the captains?
Ofcourse now you want my opinion
Let's look at the facts so far
1) Aqib javed introduction involves him booting Babar out of tests and resting babar against Zimbabwe, Something NO OTHER COACH OR SELECTOR DID SINCE 2016.
2) Aqib made Rizwan odi and t20 captain.
3) Aqib selected KG as a potential babar rival and replacement.
And yet these are valid discussion points?
Babar will play upcoming tests yes. KG did replace him howeverSo from your understanding Babar will not play in the upcoming tests?.
If Aqib is getting credit for sticking with various players in the squad then so should Rizwan who picks the xi.
Another HUGE achievement is Pakistan for the first time resting its main players for the zimbabwe series. I remember the ruckus caused by Safia Mafia and the fans of the their players when the same was tried in Afghanistan series. Shadab’s role was super suspicious as well after the badshah wazeer comments.Aqib needs to ve given credit for odi and test.
So far these are his accomplishments
Test
1) Won a test series at home despite pakistan losing for 2 years in a row. Backed sajid, noman, Kamran and saud, Curated spin pitches similar to uae. Kicked Babar out of test temporarily × Shaheen as well
Odi
1) Backed saim which led to pakistan beating aus, and sa
2) Got rid of dead weights like chacha, Shadab etc etc
3) So far pakistan has won 3 back to back series under him, Aus, zim, and SA
T20
1) The less said about this the better. Pakistan hasnt done a damn in this format atm.
Aqib is a nobody. He is riding on Rizwan’s brilliant captaincy. His botched selections in T20Is says everything about his credentials.
Who is Atiq uz Zaman? What has he over a world cup winning player, 2 times PSL winning coach, successful SRL bowling coach and now the first coach in Pakistan history to win back to back ODI series in Australia and South africa?
Gillispie won the odi series in AusWho is Atiq uz Zaman? What has he over a world cup winning player, 2 times PSL winning coach, successful SRL bowling coach and now the first coach in Pakistan history to win back to back ODI series in Australia and South africa?
To Atiq uz Zaman: WHO ARE YA?
Lol didnt gillepse claim that he was involved only in catch practise?Gillispie won the odi series in Aus
I got scrutinised by people who made fun of me for calling Gillespie a failed coach for pakistan. Most of them were ill informed Indian posters or @Major sahib.Lol didnt gillepse claim that he was involved only in catch practise?
Beside that whole world knows who was behind team selection and strategy and it wasnt Gillepese. Its not even hidden knowledge, PCB sent Asad Shafiq under direction of Aqib to select playing 11. PCB in their media releases clearly stated that selection committee is selecting the playing 11. Are you purposely fooling yourself?
You dont have to write idc about Aqib’s credentials because they are equally good if not better as a cricket player, and way better than Gillipese as a coach.I got scrutinised by people who made fun of me for calling Gillespie a failed coach for pakistan. Most of them were ill informed Indian posters or @Major sahib.
These people don't understand cricket smh. They assume big names and past credentials equates to universal success.
I'm an aussie fan and I love Gillespie as a coach and mentor but he was rubbish for Pakistan atleast.
Under him we lost to Bangladesh and got mauled by England, they literally tonked 800 runs againat us and we were the first team in history to lose by a test match by an innings after scoring 500 runs.
What's worse Gillespie wanted the same bowlers vs England on the same pitch. Idc about his credentials but Aqib stepped in and curated the pitch, Kicked Babar for KG who scored a century in debut and actually won us our first test series at home.
that's a fact
Gary Kristen was treated unfairly because he was called in kn the eve of a world cup. He had no time to make any changes or even get to know the team and had to take the brunt of a rubbish squad playing the cup.
However afterwards he orchestrated the champions cup and was searching for players and implementing his vision but before he could he was kicked out.
At the very least pcb should have let him coach till sa odi and t20 series to decide.
Gillespie was not treated unfairly lol. Losing to Bangladesh at home and getting marked by England while having complete control over the 11 followed by suggesting the exact same rubbish to play 2nd and 3rd test demanded a sack.
Furthermore Gillespie wasn't even willing to spend time with the team, 90% of the time he was in Australia chilling.
Aqib javed has been rubbish in t20 atm, solid in odi and test.
However unlike Gillespie he's actually implementing changes and they have worked for odi and test so far.
I'm sorry but aqib Is a better coach then Gillespie atm.
I said idc about Gillespie credentials lol, not aqibYou dont have to write idc about Aqib’s credentials because they are equally good if not better as a cricket player, and way better than Gillipese as a coach.
When the Pakistani cricketers of 80s, 90s tainted themselves in fixing, and tried to look for commentary stints.
Aqib gave back to the game with a completely untainted record. He has been coaching multiple teams, and has done a good job.
Hes a great addition, and i hope Mohsin Abramovich Naqvi keeps on giving him his full backing.
Wow, Even Kristen was lazy smh. Yeah then both should have been axed. No excuseFrom what I understand, champions cup was not organised by Kirsten and both him and Gillespie did not bother to learn about the players in domestics which is why their selection rights were taken away. I bet Naqvi was rolling his eyes when Kirsten suggested Shadab. I also think he had enough when they were hardly spending any time in pakistan.
They should have got up to speed with the pool of players they were choosing from. That should have taken 3 weeks max and the rest of the time having sessions with them at NCA and helping to pick the A teams.
Isnt that pointless dropping babar and then bringing him backBabar will play upcoming tests yes. KG did replace him however
Its not pointless.Isnt that pointless dropping babar and then bringing him back
When it comes to domestic players, I can confidently say that any poster here has more knowledge than the two foreign coaches we had. They were rightfully dismissed. From what I understand, champions cup was not organised by Kirsten and both him and Gillespie did not bother to learn about the players in domestics which is why their selection rights were taken away.
They did none of this.

Aqib is a nobody. As simple as that.Aqib proved his mettle already when he engineered Pakistan’s victory against England in the test series just not by pitches but by selection as well.
Rizwan has nothing to do with that.
you need to make your mind up who gets credit for whatSo 1 game done and Aqib's squad failed convincingly, players out of position, bowlers getting injured, Main bowler was tanked lot to work for next game
you need to make your mind up who gets credit for what
pakistan wins - credit to rizwan
pakistan lose - blame aqib
In one thread this guy wants Khushdil to be given a chance and be allowed to play than in another thread he wants to bash Rizwan for playing Khushdil. The blame should go to Aqib for making Rizwan captain who wants his best friend Khushdil if he can’t have Iftikhar.
Be quietIn one thread this guy wants Khushdil to be given a chance and be allowed to play than in another thread he wants to bash Rizwan for playing Khushdil.
Lol again he wants khushdil to play than go around in threads complaining why khushdil is in the team.Be quiet
Did I pick Khushdil for the squad??? If he is picked, why would I not want the better attacking batters playing instead of the Tatti white ball accumulators from SNGPL Misbah school of rubbish???
In this squad, I would pick Khushdil, Faheem and Usman to play every game. Only Fakhar guarantee plays from the XI today as a batter.
KamrAn
Babar
Rizwan
Salman
Tayyab
Mujhe Ulti Aa rahi hai!! This is 2025 not 1985!!
He’s in the team because he is Rizwan’s friend.Lol again he wants khushdil to play than go around in threads complaining why khushdil is in the team.
One confused poster......![]()
So at one side this guy is saying he is better than sngpl players than on the other side he has an issue why he is rizwans friend. He’s in the team because he is Rizwan’s friend.
But he’s still a better white ball batter than the Oooolti SNGPL nasl batters they have to bat 1-6 besides Fakhar
