[VIDEOS] Afghanistan fans fight with Pakistan fans at World Cup 2019

Disgusting behaviour by afghan fans!
But theres either a lot of youngsters on this forum or alot of people with bad memories!
This was a common occurence between pak and indian fans in the 80's and even til recently!
This is what happens, when countries like india and afghanistan politicize sport!

to start with, I was in the ground and all the afghanis wanted was a fight.. in my stand, which was little over priced for afghaniz, there werent many of them, but some managed to sneak in withuot tickets, who were then thrown out but they came in and started shouting anti-pakistani slogans.. they just wanted fight. nothing more.. the stand where this main fight happened was on my far left and a few afghaniz were thrown out but they clearly dont have shame to be embarssed and keep quiet ... disgusting behaviour ... i have been to many pak-india games and i never had any issues/fights but today, it looked like one would start any min

The 80's was a known decade for hooligan behaviour, even in cricket. It wasn't just limited to Pakistan and India, tbh.

In my opinion pak should not play afghans outside of world cups!
No need to have any relations with such a country!
This includes pak withdrawal on a permanent basis from the asia cup!
No point playing in the asia cup, when SL is the only friendly nation!

Works both ways, tbf.

That being said I won't be surprised if some users on here were wearing a tinfoil hat when posting their theories.

24 hour Indian media is the worst. Having seen clips from BD media as well, they are no better either.

24 hour Indian media is the worst. Having seen clips from BD media as well, they are no better either.

Unfortunately Fox News [Faux "News"] has had off-shoots all over the world.

In America the right-wing media has gone around the rules and laws by claiming they're not "News" but more-so entertainment. The same network tells The President Of The United States what to say, and what to do. The same network and their presenters have been named in cases where white supremacy has caused terrorism.

We're all buggered.

Islam teaches not to fight anyone but I get what he is saying he trying to say we're the same people but rather than saying Muslims brothers should have just said were neighbors and brothers we should not fight

I would like to say alot, alot more, but won't, all i say is :-

PAKISTAN CRICKET TEAM ZINDABAD!

PAKISTAN ZINDABAD!

When grown men in the hospitality stand are threatening others when their team isn't doing well then I can't imagine how much worse it was in the other stands. These Afghans 50 years of age and above were going on about how they "beat us is the real battle field" and willing to demonstrate it there and then. Openly challenging Pakistanis to fight them in the freakin executive suite then you can imagine their standards. A bit disappointed that they got the privalage of taking the game that close, we should have demolished them however I'm very glad we didn't lose, I was ready to give up on cricket altogether. I'd lose to India 100 times over than this Afghan team and their supporters.

All this Indo Afghan unity both online and in reality looks funny to me. Indians should stay away from Afghanis. Don't think I have seen Indian and Pakistani fans fighting like this.

Only 1 incident comes to my mind and that was not fan vs fan. :inzi

These Afghans are so immature. There were Afghani guys at our hostel in Delhi. They beat our (kashmiri) guy without any reason. But we taught them a life long lesson what kashmiris are and thrashed them until they left the hostel

Lol there are so many Afghanis in Delhi. Sometimes I feel I am in Kabul. Indians and Afghanis have nothing in common. We can relate to Bangladeshis and Pakistanis but not afghanis. I do feel in few years time they will do the same to Indian fans as well.

They are in cricket because of Pakistan. Pakistan supported them and their players. Allowed them to play in their domestic cricket and this is how you thank them? :inti

Exactly if they didn't remember what pak did for them and also doing presently there is no guarantee they will remember what India is doing for them. Ehsaan faramosh

Most of Pakistani fans were with their families and when u r with it wife, mother, sister n kids, last thing u want is a fist fight with gang of goons
But em sure pakki fans will be very well prepared in their next match against Afghanistan whenever it happened

If you look at the average Afghanistan fan, they are pretty emotional about their teams. But their are plenty of Afghans who are vicious and to me it is no surprise that such has happened.

This is a game, beating up fans of another nation is uncalled for. Hate someone, cuss him. To physically hurt someone is uncalled for.

I find that a convenient excuse. Pakistani's were getting beat up yet you have guys just standing around and spectating. Just watch the videos for better perspective.

I think Pakistani fans went there to watch and enjoy the match with their families? Afghani fans should have told them in advance that they will behave like jaahil pendus in the stadium.

Next time these afghan fans do something like this, opposing fans should just play 'Afghan Jalebi' song to make them dance on their tune. :inti

And please stop involving india into this, afghans decided to become brainwashed hooligans themselves. They have had this attitude way before india. I don't know if an internal source is perpetuating this idiocy. Or if their culture has been like that from the beginning

Saw the final moments of match again and it looks like Imad and Wahab in the end discussed not to celebrate the victory maybe because they saw what was happening in the stands so instead of triggering it even more they decided to keep calm and just walk after winning the match. Match was against a small team but if you win a match from situation like this you naturally celebrate it so it was strange to see them not celebrating it but after watching the clip again and thn multiple violent clips from last overs i can understand why they did it.

First of all, Afghanis shouldn't have acted that way. They were going after any Pakistani they saw. In one of the videos there's a middle aged Pakistani man who has blood coming out of his ear and looks dazed and confused and some Afghani decides to throw a bin at him, knocking him over. Should be thrown in jail, all of those fans!

Absolutely despicable behaviour by those Afghan spectators. Nothing justifies it.

By the way, I'm always amazed how analysts even on mainstream Pak TV channels have no qualms calling Afghans "namak haram". As if Afghans are supposed to be grateful & subservient to Pakistanis till qayamat! Introspection needed on both sides.

Wow, this is nuts..... I am sure Pakistani fans abusing Afghan players may have something to do with this but this type of behaviour is simply not ON from both sides..

But Afghans are in cricket because of BCCI, BCCI's influence, allowing them to play their games in India, Indian sponsors AMUL :inti..

Quite a lot of alcohol was being consumed amongst fans of both teams - that seemed to also play a part in th trouble.

I was approached by 3 Afghan fans asking for money and if I didn't give them money they wanted a fight. Absolutely crazy stuff. Then when they saw my media pass they had a change of mind and walked away.

Just look at that picture, that says it all. The Afghan yobs are attacking sections of the crowd where families are situated, you can clearly see that a good portion of them are women. There's a young girl in there looking on in bewilderment at the left side of the image hiding behind the big guy in the Pakistan shirt.

No idea what the problem is with these guys, but someone has been filling their heads with nonsense clearly.

Why is the police so weak in the UK ?

If this happened in Murica them Afgans would be properly bloodied up by the cops.

As expected only one side of the story is being presented here. Everything was going well fans were getting along just like the warm up match until that Balochistan banner was flown overhead. That's when Pakistani fans out of nowhere started abusing us, calling us all sort of filthy names and a older Pakistani man started swinging punches at a few Afghans. Throughout the game they continued their abuse to the point where things got out of hand.

Fan trouble steals spotlight from a spectacular Pakistan vs Afghanistan clash at Headingley

By Saj Sadiq

On what was ultimately a great day for cricket on the field, sadly many will remember it for all the wrong reasons. Pakistan somehow managed to conjure up a narrow win against Afghanistan thanks largely due to some fantastic resilience late in the day from Imad Wasim. But the ugly scenes before, during and after the match at Headingley marred a great cricketing spectacle.

pakistan-afghanistan-fans-rtr-380.jpg

Going into the match the rather unnecessary and distasteful words of Interim Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Asadullah Khan may have been ringing in the ears of the Pakistani players, but on the field there were no incidents of note to report and players from both teams conducted themselves impeccably and set a great example to the fans, sadly an example that a mindless minority did not follow.

As fans settled into their seats, the first sign of trouble came shortly before the start of the match as Afghanistan fans without tickets tried to enter the stadium by breaking though security barriers. This resulted in ugly scenes and a stand-off with security personnel. Security barriers were thrown towards security staff who did their best to control things when confronted with unexpected hostility. The same fans who couldn't overpower security personnel to enter the ground, then took out their frustrations on opposition Pakistani fans as fists were thrown, together with lots of pushing and shoving.

The longer the game went on, the more tense the atmosphere became. There was regular trouble on the Western Terrace to the right of the media box with several fans thrown out for fighting. What began as banter among fans escalated into violence. Fans were taunting each other and what initially appeared to be good-natured banter soon became a case of fists flying and regular interventions by the overworked and, at times, overpowered security staff. Throughout the day there were scenes that had no place at a cricket match.

One of the major factors for the trouble was that some ticketless Afghan fans were getting inside the ground by climbing over security fences. Once inside, they would go on to occupy empty seats.

I spoke with some Pakistani fans who said their seats had been occupied by Afghanistan fans when they had gone to purchase food. When they asked the Afghanistan fans who had occupied their seats to kindly vacate them, they started abusing leading to ill tempered atmosphere.

I was approached by three Afghanistan fans who were threatening and looking to pick a fight on the pretence that they were homeless and wanted me to give them money. They then noticed I was wearing a media accreditation pass and changed their mind. It was a close call and just added to my concerns about what was going on at Headingley away from the cricket.

The bright yellow security jackets could be seen all day trying to control things but a lot of the times it was a futile exercise. Security staff tried their best to split the fans up but the number of incidents meant that at times they were overpowered. It was ugly, it was unnecessary, it was not what the great game of cricket was about. Fans were thrown out for access without tickets, fans were thrown out for fighting, fans were thrown out for throwing bottles, was this really a cricket match?

Near the end of the match there was a fight involving around 30 fans from both sides. These thugs had no respect or care for other fans, women, children and the elderly as bins, bottles and anything else they could get hold of was thrown around. Once again security staff did what they could but these fans only had one thing in mind and that was to cause mayhem. As missiles were thrown in the direction of the Pakistani fans, one came towards the media box and hit the glass front.

When the match ended a few fans ran onto the pitch and some tried to get near the players. It may well have been fans just wanting to pose for a photo with the cricketers but again it resulted in some ugly confrontations. This was once again a situation that could have ended in an ugly manner. Thankfully there were no injury, but it was another uncomfortable situation.

Imad Wasim and Gulbadan Naib played down the crowd incidents at the post-match press conferences, but both did ask fans to show responsibility and remember that it's just a sport and nothing else. One wonders whether this message will actually be adhered to in future matches between the two nations.

As I drove home, the events on the field were almost out of my mind, what was actually going through my head was just what had gone on earlier in the day off the field. The day's events left a bad taste in my mouth. Having watched cricket for nearly 30 years I had not seen anything like it - it did not feel right, it did not sit well with me, it is something I never want to see again. The gentleman's game at Headingley was ruined by hooligans.

Did the Pakistani fans also make the Afghan climb over the wall to get in to the ground without buying tickets?

Does that explain the significant number of Afghan fans that tried to enter without tickets, and when they were stopped by security they tried forcing their way through?

See video.

Or does this explain the plane above? Who planned this? And why specifically in a Pak vs Afg match?

Its clear certain afghan fans planned this stuff.

And from what I am hearing it was Afghan fans that were abusing Pakistanis not the other way around.

Afghans need to learn that calling someone Punjabi is not a slur. Also saying anti Pakistan statements just to pick fights doesnt belong in cricket.

It's a strange thing to say but when I have been at PK matches, alcohol has played a big part in the trouble. On this occasion our Afg neighbours are the instigators. I was at Edgebaston in 87 in OdI match between England and PK and it also happened to be the 27 Roza and the PK fans( not all but quite a few) were just as drunk as the English.

Indians and Pakistanis get along fine everywhere mate. Only thing we don't have is easy visa regime so we can travel more to each others countries. There are ample videos of Indians visiting Pak on youtube and the amazing hospitality they get when in Pak. I have heard about similar stories about Pakistanis visiting India.

What happened yesterday, never expect that to ever happen in an India vs Pakistan game no matter where it is played.

I am alot closer to my Indian friends in the UK than Afghan friends.

The stewarding operation was totally inadequate, I'm sure they weren't expecting mass brawls but from those videos it looked like a free-for-all at times.

There is another video circulating on Twitter. Apparently the Afghani fans pulled a Pakistani cricketer (supposedly Sarfaraz) violently when he came to apologize and diffuse tension.

Ya okay. A history of playing the victim and blaming everyone but yourself.

This wil happen again, Indians are celebrating these pictures of Pakistani fans being beaten by Afghani uncivilized folks. A legal course should be taken, should file case or else if ignored would lead to more danger for Pakistani fans who take their families to watch matches.

A plane carrying anti-Pakistan sign, violent Afghans barging into the stadium was all pre-planned and Afghans can't do this alone.

Looks like the captain Sarfaraz was also dragged by them [Video on social media shows Sarfaraz being tugged and security jump in]

I've seen the video and in all honesty it's difficult to say if it was definitely Afghan fans who did it.

The stewards were absolutely clueless. They were not familiar with the ground or familair with what they needed to do or the potential for trouble.

I had relatives sat in the Western Terrace and they told me that security weren't even checking tickets, or trying to break up trouble and no clue about what was going on and the potential for more trouble.

A lot of lessons for the ICC and Yorkshire CCC.

There wasn't enough police there and most of the time the police were outside the stadium.

The whole security operation was a shambles.

Saj, any information on the plane? Some wiseguy must have allowed that plane over the stadium

The Afghans have always been mentally weak. And wth was up with trying to jump the wall and get in. And the plane thing. Pretty shi**y stuff. We should not play these guys.

Guys I read somewhere that 10 Afghans who beat up that one Pakistani dude was because he sold them fake tickets, is that true?

Yeah he sold them the fake and stuck around for them to find out and give him a beat down...

This is straight of bollywood script book which only works on gullible and ignorant Indian masses..

The stadium is on the Leeds/Bradford airport route.

Won't have been difficult to hire a plane and do this.

This was sheer stupidity by whoever decided to take Sarfaraz there.

Total lack of common sense.

need more pakistani pataans in the stadium next time, i personally dont think next timw this fixture happens there will be families, will be just men.

Pakistan to raise issue of flying anti-Pakistan banners during Pak-Afghan World Cup Match: FM

MULTAN, Pakistan: Pakistan will raise the issue of flying anti-Pakistan banners and scuffles during the Pak-Afghan Cricket World Cup 2019 Match at Leeds on June 29, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told media on Monday.

Talking to media representatives in Multan, Qureshi voiced concerns over the incident, and said that whatever happened after the Pak-Afghan Match in England was improper and immoral.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that using sports for such malicious propaganda is unacceptable. He also demanded a probe, saying that those responsible must be brought to book.

Last Saturday, Pakistan beat Afghanistan by three wickets in 36th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. After the match, the dejected and enraged Afghan supports involved in a scuffle with Pakistani fans and also made failed attempts to attack Pakistani team. However, the ICC Security Officials acted swiftly and nabbed a couple of Afghan hooligans.

Earlier in a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal also expressed deep concern over the flying of anti-Pakistan banners, unruly conduct of certain group of spectators towards Pakistan team players and scuffles during the Pakistan-Afghanistan World Cup Cricket match.

Dr Mohammad said that the use of sports venues for such malicious propaganda is unacceptable.

“We expect all relevant authorities, both sports and law enforcement, to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring those responsible to account,” he said.

The Spokesperson also said that the matter is also being taken up through diplomatic channels.

It costs about £500 to hire a plane carrying a message, Football fans in the UK started of this trend asking for owners/managers to leave their clubs. Not illegal and very easy to arrange especially when your in the middle of a flight path.

was shocking behavior from Afghan fans though, i don't think anyone envisaged the trouble that would be caused, the authorities were slot to react, thankfully they had security on the pitch at the end of the game, the scenes took me back to the 90's with the pitch invasions.

the plane flying with a message was disgusting. it escalated the tension among the fans and caused more fights and anger. ICC and UK should be taking this matter more seriously surely.

Oh yeah. There was an infamous England-Pakistan ODI at Edgbaston in 1987 where a fan had their throat slashed and I think even a pig's head was thrown into the Pakistan end.

And the end of nearly every 2001 Natwest Series match involving Pakistan was bedlam.

-now that you mention it 1987 - 5th odi ....my cousin was in the stands....being indian he was mistaken to be pakistani-his shirt was pulled at by a brit cementhead as well....he was not far away from the fan whose throat was slashed - riaz mohammed....and the woman police constable who held his throat -const theresa sharples....he does voluntary work and hence he followed up on this....sad when our noble game is thrown into the dirt like this....i pray for the well being of that old pak guy who was punched andhit by those 15 odd goons....peace to all....

Should I post screenshots of those tweets by Indians celebrating Pakistanis being beaten in Hedingley, here?
And these Afghans who could'nt afford a ticket would'nt be able to sponsor a plane trip over the stadium.

Still no word on who flew that plane and who sponsored those signs. This is not impossible to track.

ICC and British authorities will need to respond to this an Pakistani British community and Govt. officials now have decided to pursue this.

If my country is involved, i hang my head in shame at this....and sorry to my pak bros.....end of the day...we are but one...
If not....i have no words....

7 incidents according to police happened inside the stadium and outside so there are more than a few.

Still does'nt justify those people who were attacked. Now most would think twice about taking their families or elderly to watch or attend Pakistan match.

This guy who is making sensible point was trying to divert the thread equating women and children being hit with an incident 30 years back justoifying Afghan behaviour, when iconfronted him he started making personal attacks on me all those posts were removed.

Four people arrested at Headingley Stadium after Pakistan and Afghanistan fans fight during cricket world cup match

Police have confirmed that four people were arrested on Saturday after violent clashes broke out between fans during an ICC Cricket World Cup match.

Footage emerged on social media during the game between Pakistan and Afghanistan, appearing to show fans fighting inside and outside Headingley Stadium.

West Yorkshire Police were called to the scene at 11.55am after reports of trouble outside the ground, linked to people trying to get inside.

In one video, men can be seen using barriers as weapons and trying to break through security gates.

Police said officers dispersed the group and remained on patrol in the area.

But the clashes appeared to spill into the stadium, as footage has emerged of fans appearing to fight during the match.

It was a tense game on the field, with Pakistan beating Afghanistan by three wickets with two balls to spare.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that there were four arrests over the course of the event.

A spokesperson for the police said: "At 11:55am on Saturday police received reports of some trouble outside the ground linked to people trying to get in.

"Officers attended to dispersed the group without any issues and remained on patrol in the area."

It is not clear what started the trouble, but one fan video appears to show a plane flying over the stadium, towing a banner which reads "Justice for Balochistan".

Balochistan is a region made up of areas of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.

There are political tensions in the region as Baloch nationals have fought for independence from the Pakistan and Iran governments, with the support of Afghanistan.

A spokesperson for ICC Cricket said: "The International Cricket Council (ICC) are aware of a small number of incidents at Headingley that have overshadowed the great cricket and wonderful support from the majority of fans.

"We worked with the venue security and police throughout the day to ensure any issues were dealt with as efficiently as possible.

“We constantly review our security plans and will continue to do so to ensure we’re providing the safest possible environment for fans to enjoy the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

"We will not tolerate this type of behaviour, and will take appropriate action against any anti-social behaviour that spoils the enjoyment for the majority of fans.

“The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has been a fantastic celebration of cricket so far and it would be a shame if these isolated incidents, that are not common in our sport, overshadowed today’s thrilling game.

"We remind all spectators we exercise zero tolerance on incidents of crowd disorder and will take appropriate action.”

The UK should be made to apologise here no doubt about it.

No he was'nt...i read the threads...he just mentioned the 87 incident in which his cousine or whoeever attended..and he did'nt justify afg behaviour - get a grip champ...

Please do not spread rumours - if you have news - put a proper source here.

The one sitting behind us started saying
Win from you baap india first
And also started swearing at a 8 9 years old kid who was celebrating.

Than they came on Pakistan fan side for a fight.

They got a good beating there

Afghans were very canny on Saturday- they were picking fights with the 9-5 working type of guys!

From what I saw the Afghan fans were in large groups of young men and the people they were attack were not of the same, they were older and sometimes with families.

Disgraceful.

Cricket World Cup: Police to investigate Pakistan v Afghanistan fan trouble at Headingley

West Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into the trouble at the World Cup match between Pakistan and Afghanistan at Headingley.

Three arrests were made with two men being released without charge and one bailed pending further enquiries.

There were incidents of "disorder" before, during and after the game which Pakistan won by three wickets.

Police say the two games left to play at Headingley will now have an "enhanced police presence".

Afghanistan play West Indies at the Leeds stadium on Thursday, with India's game against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Videos on social media showed Pakistan and Afghanistan fans clashing outside the ground on Saturday and a group trying to break through the gates between the main road and the stadium.

Fans were also seen jumping over the fence that surrounds the ground and gaining access to the concourse behind the Western Terrace.

The clashes continued after Pakistan's thrilling victory, with supporters charging on to the pitch and throwing punches at each other in the stands.

An International Cricket Council spokesperson said they were aware of "some scuffles among a minority of fans".

"We now have a better overall impression of the incidents that took place in and around the ground before, during and after the match, and recognise the need for there to be a full and comprehensive criminal investigation into those offences," said Superintendent Chris Bowen.

"While we did not receive any direct reports of people being injured, the footage that is out there clearly shows people being assaulted during these incidents.

"We would like to hear from anyone who was a victim and from anyone who witnessed any incidents, particularly if they have uncut original source phone footage that could assist in identifying incidents or offenders.

"Crowd trouble is relatively unheard of in cricket, and, as such, Saturday's match had been assessed by us as low risk and suitable for a security operation led by stewards without any police presence in the ground.

"We have now reviewed the policing arrangements for the coming matches this week at Headingley, in consultation with the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, and an enhanced police presence and stewarding will be in place to ensure people attending can have a safe and enjoyable time."

Cricket World Cup Birmingham fan, 17, arrested amid Pakistan vs Afghanistan chaos at Headingley

Detectives have launched an investigation after "unprecedented" crowd trouble at a Cricket World Cup match.

A number of arrests were made during the match between Pakistan and Afghanistan at the Headingley ground in Leeds on Saturday.

West Yorkshire Police said they received reports of people climbing over a wall, assaulting staff on a gate and a fan going on to the pitch.

Videos shared on social media show a fight between fans outside the ground, with a metal barrier being brandished, kicks, punches and shouting.

Police said mobile phone footage shows people being assaulted, and appealed for anyone who was a victim or witness of an attack, or who has original footage of the incidents, to get in touch.

A force spokesman said the investigation would focus on the most serious offences and aim to identify those responsible.

He said officers were initially called to a disturbance outside the stadium, in St Michael's Lane, involving a large group, with reports of some people climbing over a wall and assaulting staff on a gate shortly before 12pm on Saturday.

Two men, both aged 22 and from London, were arrested on suspicion of affray. One was later released without charge and the other was bailed pending further inquiries.

Further incidents were reported during and after the game, and a 17-year-old boy, from Birmingham, was arrested on suspicion of assault after going on to the pitch. He was later released without charge.

Superintendent Chris Bowen, head of operational policing for Leeds District, said police recognised the need for a "full and comprehensive criminal investigation" into the offences.

He said: "While these were isolated incidents, involving a relative minority of people attending the event, the scenes that were witnessed were completely unprecedented at a cricket match.

"The law-abiding majority will have been understandably concerned at what occurred and we need to send a very clear message that behaviour such as this is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

"While we did not receive any direct reports of people being injured, the footage that is out there clearly shows people being assaulted during these incidents.

"We would like to hear from anyone who was a victim and from anyone who witnessed any incidents, particularly if they have uncut original source phone footage that could assist in identifying incidents or offenders."

Mr Bowen said crowd trouble at cricket was "relatively unheard of" and Saturday's match had been assessed as low risk, with no need for a police presence.

He said policing arrangements had now been reviewed and there would be an enhanced police presence and stewarding for matches at Headingley this week.

Steve Elworthy, International Cricket Council (ICC) Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 managing director, said: "We welcome and fully support a police investigation into the events at Headingley. We will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour that spoils the enjoyment for the majority of fans.

"The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup has been a fantastic celebration of cricket so far and it would be a shame if these isolated incidents, that are not common in our sport, overshadow this."

Not entirely true. Clearly remember the boorish 'in your face' aggressive over the top celebrations by Pakistan fans in Sharjah after Pakistan victories over India (which btw were a regular feature...Pak defeating India then/there).

Remember a lot of middle aged Pakistan men unsheathing gold swords (that looked more like ornamental bejeweled decorative swords than actual swords) and holding the swords upright right in front of dejected Indian families including ladies and kids, and menacingly swaying the swords while loudly shouting slogans. This much I remember clearly from TV broadcasts.

Also, one of the reasons that the Indian Govt had cited then as factors that led them to reconsider matches in Sharjah was the safety of Indian spectators (among other issues with Sharjah tournaments).

Yes, I do agree with you that Indian and Pakistan 'cricket' fans are very well behaved for the most part, especially given how deep the India Pak rivalry goes.

1. It’s clear which foreign agendas were behind the heinous and vicious attacks on Pakistani families attending the match.

2. It doesn’t give us the right to post generalizations against all Afghans.

3. I hope the Pakistani families attacked will get justice by seeing their attackers convicted in English courts.

4. I hope for increased unity amongst the ummat and an end to the foreign plans to create nationalistic and sectarian divides (Shia/Sunni).

8 men police want to speak to after violent clashes during Pakistan and Afghanistan match at Headingley Cricket Ground

Detectives investigating incidents of disorder at Headingley during the Cricket World Cup have released images of eight men they want to identify.

Officers from Leeds District CID have reviewed CCTV and footage posted to social media and are focusing on four incidents of violent disorder inside and outside the ground during the match between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Saturday, June 29.

Police were called to the stadium shortly before noon that day following reports of a disturbance outside the ground involving a large group. Officers attended and dispersed the group without incident and remained on patrol in the area.

Other incidents of disorder that had occurred inside the ground were brought to police attention later and a full investigation was launched.

Detective Superintendent Jaz Khan, Head of Crime for Leeds District, said: “We conducted a comprehensive review of all the available CCTV and other footage filmed by members of the public and have pinpointed four incidents of violent disorder that are now the focus of a criminal investigation.

“While we did not receive any reports at the time of members of the public being injured, it is clear from the various footage available that people were assaulted during these incidents.

“Violent scenes like this are completely unprecedented at a cricket match.

"It caused understandable concern to the law-abiding majority who were there to enjoy this high-profile sports events in peace.

“We simply cannot allow behaviour such as this to go unchallenged and we need to send a very clear message about how unacceptable it is for people to involve themselves in crowd trouble at sports events and that there will be consequences.

“We are therefore very keen to identify the suspects shown on the images that we have released today, and I would appeal for people’s help both in providing information on who these people are and in sharing these images to as wide an audience as possible.

“I would also appeal directly to any of the people shown in the images to contact us and arrange to come and speak to us about these incidents now before we come and arrest you once your identity is known.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police via 101 quoting Operation Deeppond for the attention of DS Dave Parkin or DC Sam Shukla at Elland Road.

Cricket World Cup (Afghanistan vs Pakistan match) disorder: Police tracing eight men

Police have released photographs of eight men they want to trace over trouble that flared during a Cricket World Cup match at Headingley.

Fans clashed inside and outside the ground during the game between Pakistan and Afghanistan on 29 June.

Police said it involved a large group and three arrests were made.

Officers said they had "pinpointed four incidents of violent disorder" and were "keen to identify the suspects" after scouring CCTV and social media footage.

Videos filmed by the public showed a group trying to break through the gates between the main road and the stadium.

Fans were also seen jumping over the fence that surrounds the ground and gaining access to the concourse behind the Western Terrace.

Two of the arrested men were released without charge and the third one is currently on bail pending further inquiries.

West Yorkshire Police said it was called to the stadium shortly before noon on the day of the game following reports of a disturbance at the ground.

Det Sup Jaz Khan said the footage showed "people were assaulted during these incidents" despite no injuries being reported.

"Violent scenes like this are completely unprecedented at a cricket match," he said.

"It caused understandable concern to the law-abiding majority who were there to enjoy this high-profile sports events in peace.

"We simply cannot allow behaviour such as this to go unchallenged and we need to send a very clear message about how unacceptable it is for people to involve themselves in crowd trouble at sports events and that there will be consequences."

He appealed for anyone with information on "who these people are" to contact the force quoting Operation Deeppond and urged people to share the released images.

"I would also appeal directly to any of the people shown in the images to contact us and arrange to come and speak to us about these incidents now before we come and arrest you once your identity is known," he added.

Pakistan won the game against Afghanistan by three wickets with two balls remaining.

I was at this game live and I can confirm that there was Lots of unruliness. Particularly from the afghan’s. A large group of them even jumped over the gate so they can get in without paying. Very aggressive and seemed to be looking for trouble. Luckily I’m a powerfully built young man so they didn’t misbehave with me but I was ready to deliver a beat down if necessary...
