[VIDEOS] Ajinkya Rahane - Is he worth the guaranteed middle order spot?

I actually disagree with you on below lines,

<I>"The worst thing we can do right now is JUST throw out Rahane.

The only competition for Kohli eliminated."</I>

The reason behind it is that having Rahane as vice-captain is actually the best thing a captain like Kohli can ask for. The chances of replacing an aggressive captain, who also is one of the best batsman of his generation with a bloke who is a cool minded shy but a timid cricketer and barely warrants his spot in the test team is negligible. It is actually a best place for a captain to be at.

You guarantee his spot in your test team as vice captain and there is no pressure on you because a personality like Rahane can only captain his team when Kohli is not available or away from the game. Once Kohli is back, he can take the captaincy back and even claim, it is his team that won the series. This is not easy to do with other captains like Rohit Sharma.

You are absolutely right but after Aus 2020...Rahanes stature rose in the world and he was the only legit contender.

Now its another issue he has been worse than yuseless after that and Rohit has stepped up.

Imagine dropping Rahane for WTC finals.

What would you have said?

He survives for another test. Kohli certainly doesn't have any confidence in the reserve batsmen in the squad.

Rahane won't have been dropped before WTC Final. There were two occasions when it was a legitimate call to drop Rahane.

One was after that cowardly inning at Christchurch where he was bullied by Neil Wagner with short pitch stuff. Fortunately, our Kaptaan went to India and Rahane got to captain in his next series which was Australia 2020-21.

After what he did in Australia as captain and also Melbourne Knock, he secured his spot. At home, he played one or two crucial knock but wickets were mostly turner and home performances or failures aren't really bothered much.

Second was before this test match or actually at any point of this series but this was the best chance.

Rahane's stature sure rose with his captaincy and performance (although inconsistent but still good) in the series but as I said before, it was never going to be a concern for Kohli because having a personality like Rahane as your vice captain is the best thing you could ask for. He will do the job for you when you leave but will never lead under Kohli's presence, no matter even if he scored a lot of runs during that time.

Having Rohit as vice captain will push Kohli to the limits and keep him on toes.

Well the cold facts this series is that it was the Rahane-Pujara partnership that set up our only win so far.

There used to be a time Rahane was averaging 45+ and was considered as one of the most important batter in SENA. Don't know how has he regressed so much. He might leave this tour with his average falling below 40 which for an elite batting team like India is unacceptable for a no.5

Seems to be the asad shafique of indian cricket

Undroppable no matter how poor he is with the bat

It makes sense now.

But a month back, Rohit was never taken seriously in England.

Situation changes.

My post made sense at that point of time. It also acknowledged that Rahane needs to be dropped too.

But yeah i get your point and I have no disagreements with you.

A guy like Rahane is the perfect VC for any captain.

I bet Kohli would have been shocked seeing what happ in Aus 2020.

Well the cold facts this series is that it was the Rahane-Pujara partnership that set up our only win so far.

Its like Pakistani batsmen being match winners.

With their bowlers being champs, the day they clicked Pakistan won.

Honestly it was Bumrah and Shamis partnership that took the game away.

Had Root used his brain, England would have chased 170 after a few blips.

He just looks completely done, merely setup to fail at this stage.

It's a baffling decision why they are not dropping him.

Ofcourse, Rohit case makes sense now. A month back, he was nowhere in tests as far as overseas matches are concerned. But I was talking in terms of their personality and claim for leadership qualities.

It's getting embarrassing for all concerned with Indian cricket to see Rahane in the middle-order.

He's batting worse than Jasprit Bumrah at the moment.

Indian Asad Shafiq. Us fans are divided by border, united by frustration and torture because of these 2.

I cant remember Shafiq being this bad though.

Shafiq had the talent to score 50s when the team didnt need them.

Rahane cant even do that!

Did Asad Shafiq ever have a stranglehold on his team by undeservingly being appointed vice captain?

you know he is done when Jadeja is promoted ahead of him

should be dropped

As a batsman, I can definitely say that I myself can not be worse than rahane at England right now. I might be even better.

If he plays the 5th test, I'm going to laugh.

Whiskey + Soda + Shastri = Send Rahane because he will 'jinx' the opposition!

The worst Indian batsman to play 50 tests.

Gautam Gambhir, Murali Vijay and Navjot Singh Sidhu are better batsman than him.

Dont know Sidhu’s numbers but he was a dynamite player buddy.

Sidhu averages 42 in tests while Rahane averages 39.

Sidhu's era had many great fast bowlers. He had only 3200 test runs though but he played much lesser tests compared to Rahane. I guess India also didn't used to play as many tests back then as now. Rahane has just been feeding on the performance he had in SENA in his first tour.

Rahane used to be good, in fact very good in away tests at least. He has spoiled his legacy during the last few years.

To be fair to Rahane though it's never easy for anyone who is struggling to make way for more deserving people.

<b>Someone else took credit for my decisions in Australia: Ajinkya Rahane</b>

Ajinkya Rahane played a key role as a batter and a leader in India's famous series win Down Under during the 2020-21 tour but he has come up with some startling revelations now, saying 'someone else took credit' for decisions he made during the tour.

India looked down and out in the series when they were bowled out for just 36 in the day-night Test in Adelaide. Virat Kohli also flew back to India after that defeat to be with his wife, as they were expecting a child. It was Ajinkya Rahane who led India in the remaining three matches and scripted a famous comeback that resulted in a series win as well.

He also played a pivotal role in their victory in Melbourne as he scored a match-winning century and thus led them from the front. However, in a recent interview, he has gone on to say that he wasn't happy to see others taking credit for the decisions he took.

"I know what I've done there. I don't need to tell anyone. That's not my nature to go and take credit. Yes, there were some things that I took the decisions on the field or in the dressing room but someone else took the credit for it," Rahane said in an episode of 'Backstage With Boria'.

"(What was) important for me was that we won the series. That was a historical series and for me, that was really special," he added.

Rahane, however, earned a lot of praise from pundits, former cricketers and fans for the way he led the team in the absence of Kohli and in the aftermath of that humiliating loss in Adelaide. India also kept losing many key players to injuries during the course of the series but the fringe players stepped up under Rahane's leadership to script an inspiring comeback.

"After that, the reactions from people or those who took credit or what was said on the media, 'I did this' or 'This was my decision', or 'This was my call', it was for them to talk about," Rahane said.

"From my end, I knew what decisions I took on the field and what decisions I took on my instincts.

"Yes, we talked with the management too but I used to laugh about it, that is what I did on the field, I never talk much about myself or praise myself. But what I did there, I knew." However, Rahane suffered a prolonged slump after leading India to that historic series win in Australia, and it continued on the tour of South Africa.

Rahane hasn't enjoyed a good time after that series. He played 13 Test matches in 2021 and scored 479 runs at a meagre average of 20.82. That includes two fifties and some important 40s but the overall consistency was missing. Following his poor run, he lost his vice-captaincy too and played only as a batter during the series in South Africa, where he scored just 136 runs in six innings at an average of 22.67. He has been at the receiving end of criticism after his poor run but isn't bothered about that. In fact, he believes in himself and is confident about rediscovering his mojo.

"I just smile at it. People who generally know the sport will not talk like that. I don't want to get too deep into that. Everyone knows it, you know it, what happened in Australia.

"Even after and before Australia, the contributions I made, especially in red-ball cricket, I don't want to talk about it but Australia was really special. As I said, people who know the sport, love the sport they'll talk sensibly," he said.

"Yes, I am confident about my own ability, I am batting really well and I believe in my ability. And I still believe I have good cricket left in me," Rahane added.

Rahane still has the audacity to talk like this even after performing like a tailender and averaging less than 20 in the last 20 tests!!!!

Him and Pujara are the main reason why India could not whitewash both England and South Africa recently. They both keep blocking youngsters places who have been warming up the bench even after performing consistently at domestic.

Rahane really has no shame left otherwise wouldn't talk like this and would have retired instead.

India should keep playing both Pujara and Rahane until 40. They are seniors and deserve respect.

😉

He is right here. Kohli's PR did tried to take away all the credit of that win from Rahane but reality is his downfall itself started after skipping that series, especially after 36 all out fiasco.

Rahane deserves praise for that, you can say thousands of things off field but the ones who gotta do the job were the ones who did it on field and Rahane was the on field leader and captain in that series.

He will forever be remembered as the man who led India to their greatest test series win in the history of Indian cricket. The greatest captain to have never captained a team on full-time basis. His career is possibly over now but it is good to hear him speak on what he actually feels.

Leicestershire County Cricket Club is thrilled to announce the signing of India batsman Ajinkya Rahane for the 2023 season.

The 34-year-old is set to arrive in June following his IPL campaign with Chennai Super Kings, and will be available for eight LV= Insurance County Championship matches, as well as the entirety of the One Day Cup.

Rahane, who has captained his country in all formats, has scored more than 8,000 runs at international level, reaching three figures on 12 occasions in Test cricket and three times in ODI cricket.

After making his debut against England in 2011, the right-hander has gone on to feature for India on 192 occasions, headlined by a knock of 188 against New Zealand in 2016.

The experienced batsman has appeared 82 times in the Test arena, with his 4,931 runs coming at an average of 38.52; and on 90 occasions in One Day Internationals, scoring 2,962 runs at 35.26.

On the Test stage, Rahane stands as one of only six Indians to have scored a century in each innings of a match, while he also holds the world record for most catches in a Test (eight vs Sri Lanka, 2015).

Collectively, the former India skipper has accumulated just shy of 25,000 career runs, notching 51 centuries en route, including two in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals and one in the County Championship for Hampshire during his maiden county cricket stint in 2019.

Upon signing for the Foxes, the overseas star said: “I’m really happy to be joining Leicestershire for the upcoming season. I can’t wait to play alongside my new teammates and explore the vibrant city of Leicester."

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, added: “I’m extremely excited to welcome Ajinkya to Leicestershire. He comes with a lot of experience and a tremendous work ethic. It’s a great opportunity for us to tap into that.

“I had conversations with (Assistant Coach) Alfonso Thomas and (Head Coach) Paul Nixon, who had eyed Ajinkya in the past, so he was always on our radar. It was a case of seeing what the team needed, which was definitely a senior overseas batsman, so we are delighted to have secured someone of Ajinkya’s calibre.”

Rahane becomes Leicestershire’s latest overseas signing for 2023, joining 2022 leading run-scorer, Wiaan Mulder, who has rejoined for all three formats, and Naveen-ul-Haq, who has signed for a third consecutive Vitality Blast campaign.

A fourth international addition, set to feature across the County Championship in Rahane’s absence during April and May, has also been lined up, Henderson has confirmed. The Club will announce further details in the coming weeks.

Ajinkya Rahane 71*(29) - played a blinder today for CSK in IPL 2023

Rahane 2 likely will get into the odi team given Ayer injury . And also t20 . He is a v good fielder , catcher and plays fast bowling as well as Kohli . With his new 6 hitting ability , he is definitely top contender to comeback in all three formats .

Nobody should forget how he led against Aussies. His century made same statement as ganguly century way back in 2002 .

We shouldn't get carried away by his success. He is playing an assigned role for CSK at no.3 Playing to perfection. We cannot extrapolate this and expect him to do the same at the international level. Sometimes your team combination and role assignment allow you to play better than you can. Rahane never played like this ever in IPL history. He is a veteran. First time plays under MSD.

Actually he did play well for RR, the problem there he wasn't able to finish off games even after well set..

CSK set up is like this. They have always had the history of picking up players out of nowhere and getting amazing value from them.

True. When guys like Rayudu, UThappa, Watson came into CSK they were rejects. They played as massive role

Rahane is playing very well. If he can keep this up, he deserves a place in the T20 side of India. His fielding is also top class.

If Rohit can play for India, Rahane can easily do.

A true veteran of the game, Ajinkya Rahane has given his stocks a big boost for consitent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 for Chennai Super Kings. Though it's been a while since Rahane played for the Indian national team, his IPL form could see him earn a recall in the Test team for the forthcoming World Test Championship final against Australia. With Shreyas Iyer out injured, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources informed NDTV that Rahane could be in line for a return.

It was in January last year that Rahane last featured for the Indian team in a Test match. His appearance came against South Africa at Newlands. Since then, the veteran batter has been on the sidelines, owing to poor form.

Though T20 and Test cricket stand poles apart from each other, Rahane's exploits for CSK seem to have impressed the BCCI bosses who are contemplating his return for the WTC final.

So far in the 16th edition of IPL, Rahane has scored 209 runs at an average of 52.25 and a strike-rate of 199.04. In a recent press conference, the right-handed batter also spoke about making an impression.

About a possible India return, Rahane said that he isn't thinking too much about what isn't in his hands and only wants to focus on doing well for Chennai.

"I just want to keep batting the same way, keep contributing to the team, not thinking too much about myself, the results, and the outcome. If I do that I will be really happy," he said.

Rahane also said remains hungry for doing well for his team, be it while playing for his franchise in the IPL or India.

"Intent for me is all about doing well for the team, whether I'm playing for CSK or Indian team. Keep thinking about the team rather than thinking about yourself, you own result or the outcome.

"Intent is about how badly you want to do well for your team, and how badly you are thinking about your team. So that's my only thing," he concluded.

The World Test Championship final is to be held between India and Australia from June 7 to 11 at the Oval in London.

Ajinkya Rahane makes his Team India return for the World Test Championship final against Australia. Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, has not been included. Rahane, a veteran of 82 Test matches, last played for India in the longest format of the game in January last year. Since then, he was not considered for selection owing to poor form. However, having done well in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the 34-year-old made his way back.

In an interview with Sportskeeda, Wasim Akram said Ajinkya Rahane can be the ideal replacement for MS Dhoni as the next CSK skipper.

"CSK had tried Ravindra Jadeja as captain in IPL 2022 and saw that his own performances were getting affected. They had to change the captain. I think they won't get a better option than Rahane as he can become consistent and is a local player. We have seen that local players are more successful in franchise cricket" Akram stated.

"As for foreign players, they don't even remember players' names, so how can they lead. So, I think Rahane is an excellent choice to lead Chennai if Dhoni says he's had enough. CSK might have their own plans, but they are a franchise that plan by putting a lot of thought, epitomized by Stephen Fleming, who knows the team culture inside and out and the players also trust him fully" Akram added.

Back in India colours after nearly 18 months, senior batter Ajinkya Rahane doesn't want to have any "regrets" for the time lost and would like to bat in the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia with the same "intent" like he did in the just-concluded IPL. "Coming back after 18-19 months, whatever has happened, good or bad, I don't want to think about my past. I just want to start afresh and keep doing whatever I have been doing," Rahane told BCCI.TV on the sidelines of India's training session.

"Personally enjoyed playing for CSK as I have been batting well throughout the season, even before IPL. I had a very good domestic season and I felt good. So this comeback was a bit emotional for me." Rahane, who was a part of CSK's fifth IPL title-winning side, has already received a lot of praise for his attacking batting and improved strike-rate in T20 cricket, and especially the 27-ball 61 against Mumbai Indians showed a shift in his intent.

"I want to bat with the same mindset and show same intent that I showed before coming here in IPL and Ranji Trophy. I would not like to think about format whether it is T20 or Tests. The way I am batting now, I don't want to complicate things and the more I keep it simple, better it is for me," the veteran of 82 Tests and 4,931 runs said.

The man, who led India to the most talked-about series triumph in Australia, back in 2021, also praised Rohit Sharma for leading the team admirably for the better part of this WTC cycle.

"I thought culture in team now is really good. Rohit is handling the team really well and I am sure Rahul bhai is also handling the team really well. That helps as well and atmosphere is really good. Whatever I am seeing right now is that everyone is enjoying each other's company," he said.

Rahane thanked his family and friends for the support he got during his time away from the national team.

"It was (an) emotional moment for me. When I got dropped, the support I got from my family was massive and dream was to play for India and that was massive. Playing for India matters a lot for me and I worked hard on my fitness and went back to domestic cricket." "Thanks to BCCI and selectors and when I went back to domestic cricket, the goal was to play for India -- be it Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy or practice session, for me, every day that I was waking up, it was all about thinking that I can play for India again.

"What made my comeback possible was enjoying each and every moment, be it success or failure, and having no regrets. Learning from every individual in Mumbai Ranji team. You have to grow as a cricketer every single day, learning process shouldnt stop," he said.

Playing in England is challenging, feels Rahane, who had scored a match-winning hundred in a Test match at Lord's back in 2014.

"It's all about mindset and reading the situation well, staying in (the) moment and playing it session by session. In England, you just don't look at the pitch but also keep an eye on the weather. In England, you never feel that you are in even if you are batting on 70," he said.

NDTV

Ajinkya Rahane is set to play his first Test in 18 months and a failure in the game could potentially be career-ending. India coach Rahul Dravid had a word of advice for the experienced batter. "Firstly it's good to have him. We've had a few injuries which have probably led to him having the opportunity to come back into the squad. Great for us to have someone of his quality back," Dravid said.

"He brings obviously a lot of that experience, he brings proven performance in overseas conditions. Even in England he's played some terrific innings for us.

"He brings terrific catching in the slips as well to the group. He just brings his personality to the group as well which is really important. He's led the team to considerable success. And again, I wouldn't want him to approach this as just a one-off." Dravid said the 82 Test veteran might go on to play many more five-day games for the country.

"Sometimes you get dropped from teams and you make a comeback and you can play for as long as you're playing well and as long as you're performing. It's not written in stone or rule that you only get one match. He puts in a good performance, really shows what he's got.

"Who knows, even when people come back from injury, you never know what can happen. So again, from my point of view, it's not really only about this match. Yes this match is important but then in the larger context of things there's a lot of cricket to be played further down the road as well," he said.

Rahane after a solid purple patch between 2013-15 has been a once in a blue moon performer for India.

Dropped but continues to torment Australia - this could become a match-winning/saving innings later on.

Just looking at his record, it’s better away from India than at home, and he often does quite well against Australia. He’s had some poor spells over the last few years, but this has been a gorgeous innings today. A proper Test knock.

However, his job is only half done in this innings.

Sunil Gavaskar said on-air during his commentary:

"Look at the hundreds he scored, they have mostly been when India were in trouble. He has always risen to the occasion; he has a sense of the occasion. He's one of those low-profile players who won't be thumping his chest when he gets to a half-century or a century. He just raises his bat, goes about his business quietly, but assuredly,"

Rahane thrived on 'nerves' in Leicestershire debut

Ajinkya Rahane says he used the nerves he had about his Leicestershire debut to thrive in their One-Day Cup opening win against Nottinghamshire.

The 36-year-old former India captain scored an assured 71 in the rain-hit victory for the defending champions at their Uptonsteel County Ground home.

It was a highly-anticipated first appearance by the hugely experienced batter, after a Test recall saw him miss out on a stint at the Foxes last season.

“Before the game I was really nervous,” Rahane told BBC Radio Leicester.

“But I always like that feeling, if you are nervous before the game, any game, it means you care. I thought it was a very good feeling to have before the game started.

“But once I went in and played 10 or 15 balls, I was confident.”

Leicestershire were cruising at 174-2 when Rahane – a player who has amassed more than 34,000 runs in all formats across his career - came to the crease for the first time for the Foxes.

He replaced opener Sol Budinger, who was dismissed for 75, and joined captain Lewis Hill – who would top score with 81 – in the middle.

“When I went in, it was all about reading the situation because we had a very good opening stand and the partnership was really good,” Rahane said.

“I wanted to continue that momentum for the team and play a positive innings."

Rahane’s maiden half-century for the Foxes included nine boundaries before he was caught by Freddie McCann off Lyndon James’ bowling.

"What time I spent in the middle was really good and enjoyable," Rahane said.

"The feeling was really good."

Leicestershire are back in action on Friday, as they host Warwickshire in their second group game of the competition.

Rahane's international career and possibly IPL career is over. So he has to play the English leagues where they accept mediocre washed up cricketers just for their name. Hope BCCI never ever uses county cricket as an yardstick to select players. That is how Pujara got back into the side scoring tons of runs for second division league

Ajinkya Rahane struggled to find his footing, managing just 37 off 42 deliveries for Leicestershire against Essex in the Metro Bank One Day Cup 2024

Ajinkya Rahane scored his second fifty of the Metro Bank One Day Cup 2024. He scored 68 off 57 for Leicestershire against Sussex, His strike rate continues to impress in his batting, with an impressive 105.91 in 4 innings.

After seeing this thread up. I thought that India must've lost today's game. Otherwise this thread wouldn't get bumped.

And lo and behold. India are actually losing their 2nd ODI vs Sri Lanka.

Ajinkya Rahane scored 62 off 76 for Leicestershire against Gloucestershire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup 2024. He is maintaining a good batting average of 43.57 in 8 innings so far

A fourth half-century in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup for Ajinkya Rahane.

70 off 86 crucial runs in Leicestershire's quarter-final against Hampshire.

Speaking on playing in challenging times, Rahane noted that he thrives in situations and has always delivered his best knocks under pressure, he said:

“Wherever there are challenges, I love it. I have scored runs in those situations when the team was at 30/3, 20/3, or 50/3. From there, the team needs to reach a respectable score, and throughout my life, I've delivered my best knocks in these tough situations. I always loved challenges where the ball moves, seams, or bounces,”

'90 Per Cent Confirmed': Kolkata Knight Riders Set To Appoint Ajinkya Rahane As New Captain

In what will be a remarkable turnaround, veteran India cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has emerged the top candidate to lead Kolkata Knight Riders’ title defense in IPL 2025. Rahane was released by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction before being bought by KKR at his base price of Rs 1.5 crore.

Rahane, who has fallen out of favour with India selectors, was recently replaced as the captain of Mumbai for the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well.

According to The Times of India, three-time IPL champions KKR “specifically" bought Rahane at the two-day auction in Jeddah for him being a “viable captaincy" option.

“Yes, at the moment it’s 90% confirmed that Ajinkya will be the new KKR captain. He was bought by KKR specifically for the purpose of being a viable captaincy option," a source was quoted as saying by the publication.

Rahane has captained Rajasthan Royals in the past and has represented various IPL franchises including Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiant (now defunct) and CSK.

This will be Rahane’s second stint with KKR having earlier been roped in by the franchise for IPL 2022. He was let go of after a lackluster season during which he managed 133 runs in seven games at a strike-rate of 103.91.

Rahane then went to CSK for IPL 2023 where he seemed to have recaptured his old form. In 14 matches, he scored 326 runs at a strike-rate of 172.49 as CSK became champions for a record-equaling fifth time. IPL 2024 was below par for Rahane as a player as he scored 242 runs at a strike-rate of 123.47 with CSK also failing to qualify for the playoffs.

KKR won IPL 2024 under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer who was then bought by Punjab Kings for an eyepopping Rs 26.75 crore at the auction last month.

There are also speculations that Venkatesh Iyer, whom KKR bought for a record Rs 23.75 crore, is also among the captaincy candidates. However, the franchise is yet to commit anything officially.

'My Only PR Is My Cricket': Ajinkya Rahane Still Hopeful About Making Comeback For Team India

Ajinkya Rahane, who last played for India in the two-match Test series against the West Indies in July 2023, is still hopeful about making a comeback for Team India. The 36-year-old batter is leading Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 these days and has scored 437 runs in eight matches played so far. In Mumbai’s quarterfinal match against Haryana last week, Rahane scored 31 and 108 runs to help the defending champions secure a big win by 152 runs and book a place in the semifinal match.

Ahead of Mumbai’s semi-final match against Vidarbha at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, Rahane, while speaking to the Indian Express, has once again said that the fire is still alive in him to make India come back.

“I’m more experienced but still feel young. I’m fit enough to compete at the highest level. I am passionate and love this game. There is hunger to do well. I never get satisfied with my game and don’t take things for granted. The fire is still burning inside me to play at the highest level. I feel there’s more cricket left in me," Rahane said.

Despite playing many match-winning knocks for India in all three formats of the game since making his international debut against England in 2011, Rahane has not made headlines like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara. According to the captain of the Indian team that defeated Australia 2-1 in the four-match Test series played Down Under in 2020-21, his focus was always on playing cricket, but now he has realised that staying in the news is also important.

“I was always shy; now I have opened up. My focus has been to play cricket and go home. Nobody told me that going ahead, certain things will be needed. Today also, sometimes I feel ki bus cricket khelo, ghar jao. Now I am told I need to speak up and talk about my hard work. People say you need to be in the news … I don’t have a PR team; my only PR is my cricket. I have now realised that staying in the news is important. Otherwise, people think that I’m out of the circle," Rahane said.

Despite being out of Team India for almost two years now, Rahane said his goal is to make another comeback.

“There is still fire and passion in me. I’m playing Ranji Trophy at the moment, trying to give my all to the Mumbai team. The goal is clear—to make another comeback. When I was dropped a few years ago, I made runs and was picked for the World Test Championship final and then was dropped again. But what is in my control? To play."

“Somewhere I feel I can still serve the Indian team. Cricket is still left in me," he added.

KKR appoint Ajinkya Rahane as captain and Venkatesh Iyer as vice-captain for IPL 2025.
That is really strange appointment. Ajinkya is at the end of his career and except for CSK no one would touch him with a 10 foot pole until 3 years ago. Now suddenly he becomes the captain of an IPL franchise? He is a very good captain but again I feel he might have to drop himself from the team in the middle of the tournament. Don't think this is a wise call. He may surprise everyone but seems like an appointment just for one season.
