[VIDEOS] Azam Khan - international performance watch

And why is that bad? if he scores for Pakistan - why not?

Does he look like the sort of player who will score on a consistent basis?

If he does, I must have missed something.

You mean a player scoring once out of ten goes is a good thing?

That's a very bad thing, we already have too many passengers, don't need another once in a bluemoon player in our team who can barely field, run on top of batting.

Fakhar Zaman and Sharjeel do the same thing. So using your logic they should be dropped as well?

He was rubbish in the field today, a thinner player would've stopped some of those runs with attempted dives.

Fakhar has much better fitness and ground fielding, he is an ex navy man and i know for fact they are one of the the fittest

he cannot be compared with a Extra fat- super size MC burger which is such an embarrassment on international stage. Misbah and Waqar needs to be axed on this blunder if they are choosing him deliberately.

My suspicion is its coming from some one higher up who they can't resist.

His inability to chase after the ball can clearly be seen from the second ball of the 8th over of the first T20, Pollard top edges a pull, Azam runs and tries to stop the ball, slides picks it up and throws, by the time he is up to throw the ball, WK Rizwan is almost next to him, Who had to cover at least 20 more yards to almost get to where Azam got to.

Rizwan should have chased after that if he stayed near the stumps he would have ran him out.

Azam Khan has been injured after being hit on the head during a net session. Azam Khan was wearing a helmet but has been shifted to hospital for CT scan.

Dr. Riaz Ahmed is present along with Azam and the team doctor will provide an update after reviewing the batsman's CT scan.

Just a reminder; please dont select these softies in highly competitive cricket; PSL and international cricket are 2 different things

Compared to yesterday's cricket followers , a big number of current Pakistani cricket followers have poor knowledges of the game, as evident by the support for players like Azam Khan.

You have to question if he is serious about his cricket.

You see his Instagram and he is partying and eating junk food on his Instagram all the time.

There is no discipline in his lifestyle and no focus. He has had 2+ years to get into shape and he is refusing to change his diet.

He is also not interested in FC cricket.

Cricket appears to be a hobby for him. A leisure activity. The only reason he is playing at the international level and PSL is because his father is Moin Khan.

If he doesn’t mend his ways, he will play T20 cricket for a 2-3 years and then vanish into oblivion because there is only so much that his father can do for him.

I wrote this about him a little while back.

---> He first appeared on gladiator squad as one of the emerging category players that I think at time was paying $25,000 a season, He was also in the same category in 2019 PSL for another $25,000. Then finally played for QG in 2020 and 2021 after marketing over $50,000 US just to train with the team.

Imagine that money and that opportunity being given to a deserving balochi player and not to coach's son. How good it would have done to that cricketer?

Now The question is that all along Why did hid dad (Who has more connections in Pakistan cricket than any random poster on the forums) ever got him to play domestic cricket proper first cricket in 2018 or 2019, I think even in the 20 20 season he did not play first grade domestic cricket.

Answer is because his dad knows that his son is unable to perform either on fitness grounds or on technical ability ground to compete at domestic level, and instead of getting him failed and have people seen his ineptness in his game or his fitness He would rather just keep giving him opportunities to the t20s where a typical inning is supposed to go on for about 30 balls, Hope that he connects two or three of those 30 balls, those two or three good connections for sixes will be played over and over again on the social media and tweeted and retweeted on Twitter and on Instagram, So to make him look like as if he is a real deal.

In Pakistan hype sells, especially if it's a hype about someone's son who is connected like moin khan and there is a whole mechanism of daddy's friends, ex cricketers from the same city, journalist who call themselves cricket journalist, and have TV shows, where are these clips of him scoring few boundaries here and there are going to be shown over and over again, and most importantly the loyalty to the city, is more important than anything else.

Pretty soon this guy is going to be in a T20 squad, they're just waiting for the right opportunity / right opponent(ideally weak team) to field him against, and his expectations are to score good two three hits in an innings and then he will become a permanent fixture of the national T20 squad.

Brilliant insight as always. I completely agree with your assessment.

The simple fact is that If he wasn’t Moin Khan’s son he would barely make the team of Moin Khan Academy

Hope he is safe 🙏

One of the conspiracy theory being floated around is that he got injured during catching practice trying to impress his flexibility and fitness to coaches. He couldn't move out fast enough? Don't know how true is that?

Azam Khan has been ruled out of the second and third T20Is against West Indies after sustaining a head injury during the scheduled training session.

A neurosurgeon has recommended an observation period of 24 hours. He will then be reassessed on Monday.

His availability for the final T20I will depend on the reassessment done on Monday.

Do you know who the bowler was?

Hope he is fine.
I guess Imad will come in for him tonight.

Still believe he shouldn't be in the squad.
Hasan Ali has a better chance of having success as a no.6 than him.

Was weird to see Mazhar Arshad calling for his selection on Twitter.

Azam Khan is back from hospital and at the ground.

Gold!!!

Moeen is very close to Wasim Akram and that's the clout he is enjoying plus Zakir Khan and Nadim khan- all these are mafia dons

your prediction comes true. It looks to me Misbah, Waqar, Mohammed wasim are powerless infront of the mafia dons who are flaunting his useless talent.

It will be very sad if he is included again in T-2 but knowing Misbah, he will definitely give him another try so that he can connect one or two and then Bingo world cup ticket confirmed!!!!

All set for a return to international cricket tomorrow.

A disastrous return to international cricket for Azam

Not impressed by his keeping also - one went through his legs, and now a dropped catch off Imad.

He's not good enough to keep wicket in international cricket.

Absolutely. He's not agile enough. Cost Imad Wasim with that dropped catch and 4 byes which should've easily been stopped.

Think this will show more when keeping for spinners.

With quicks he has enough time to react.

Just why you cannot have obese sportsmen representing your country at this level. His fitness is a disgrace.

Wheres rana gone today? Awful game from him today Awful

I honestly wish Azam all the best and hope he's successful but I have extremely low expectations from him.
A few innings of 180 strike rate is not going to compensate for his awful keeping and you can't hide him the field either

He should Never play for Pakistan

He does not want to lose weight because he will lose his power hitting, that is baloney, if you lose weight the healthy way, and convert your fat into muscle you will not lose your power hitting ability, if anything it will be better

Regarding his keeping since he is so pick can barely bend down, and has really slow reflexes, why is that.....because he is too fat (i am saying that nicely, not in an insulting way)

He losses weight he will be a better batsman, a better fielder and a better keeper, and cricket aside his general health in his daily life will be better as well.

It’s ok good luck for next match :)

I will not criticize him or any other young players

Poor shot when batting and poor keeping.Lets see how he does in the next two games.

He should be available for selection ONLY AFTER he is locked in prison for a year.
And during this year, they should give him controlled amount of low calorie and high protein diet with lots of hydration. And make him do nothing else but daily gym and running for muscle fexibility, weight training for muscle building and muscle strength, and sufficient enough amount of sleep for his body to recover. No other activity. No internet, no TV, no phone but yeah, he should be allowed to use restroom and showers.
His day should start at 5:30 AM and end at 7:30 pm - No exceptions for one entire year!

After a year, he will have an opportunity to solidify this discipline in his day to day life - that he SEVERLY lacks at this moment.

Currently, at a single time he eats a portion size of four people's worth of uncontrolled calorie diet - no kidding!

I want the lad to do well.

It's almost like a case of do it for all the non-athletic people out there hoping to make it big in sport.

But not many guys who are clearly this unfit will make it at the top level.

He is destined to fail more times than he will succeed in international cricket.

Why wasn't Mohammad Haris preferred? Is it because Azam cannot field?

Exactly that.

Mohammad Haris is the better wicket keeper but you then risk conceding an extra 10-15 runs having Azam fielding. We had this problem with Mohammad Irfan. Ihsanullah is also not the best on the field so Pakistan can ill afford to have 2 x liabilities out of all their boundary riders.

Do not know if your being sarcastic, but he has to find a way to lose weight, and build fat into muscle, a lot of people have and can achieve this, and I believe he can as well once he is serious enough.

No, I am not sarcastic.
This is the only way he can do it, otherwise, he has no motivation, and he has found his peace under the precedent that
"I can't change my body structure - Azam Khan".

That's the end of the world for him.

Nobody is stopping him from playing club cricket and t20 leagues but a young kid with that size has no place in international cricket.

He could barely bend down to pick up the ball. I don't care how good his batting is, to be an international cricket player its a set of different qualities, not just swinging a bat. :91:

Fat doesn’t convert into muscle . Clear your science first . You lose or gain fat . Fat doesn’t become muscle . Muscle building is different process altogether

If that is what he has chosen for himself, that is OK.

What is clear is that he cannot survive in international cricket in this form.

Problem is PSL 8 pitches and boundary sizes have made unlikely heroes out of a few batters.

When I pointed out his weight was still an issue, I was lumped in as a RizBabar supporter who didn’t want to see attacking batsmen in our team lol.

People saw his innings in the PSL and, as is the sign of the times, made him the solution to our middle order problems.

Fine.

But there’s such a thing as team combination. Azam, because of his weight issues, can only play as keeper. People wanted to finagle him into the team because of his batting were willing to be blind to his keeping issues.

But the keeping position, especially for the Pakistan team is vital, even in t20s.

Despite the new batting options, we’ll always be a team that’s reliant on our bowling. In that scenario, it’s vital to have the best keeper possible. And that’s just not Azam.

I hope he improves his keeping, but his reflexes will be compromised by his weight issues.

Wicket-keeping is such a position that one mistake can cost you a match.

I've never been a fan of part-time keepers. We did that experiment with Umar Akmal and it's risky and it didn't work.

Lessons should have been learnt from the Umar Akmal experiment.

This is key.

The Azam Khan thing with some is that if he can score 100s of runs then those 'keeping mistakes can be forgotten but that's not how it works in real life.

I don't even want to imagine Azam fielding in the outfield. Anything a few yards away from him will cruise to the boundary.

Wow one innings and everyone is going on about his weight again. You should have come to terms with that when he was selected.

He is a must in our line up.

Hes not a must He is a liability in the field and he wont score enough runs that will cover that

You can give them all the lectures you want - and you can show him all the examples you want - and you can show him all the motivational videos you want ------ and I guarantee it won't make a difference. He will NOT lose his weight to become a fit and agile international level sportsman (which is a job requirement).

If you truly support him, and want him to play for Pak then read post 202. This is THE ONLY way.

I think most nations would give him a fitness plan, get him working with the trainers and give him a period of time to reduce his weight by.

If he hadn't met the weight goals and fitness targets by that allotted timeframe, then he wouldn't be selected for the national side.

Over to you PCB.........

When did Umar Akmal being wicket keeper in T20s cost Pakistan?

When did Umar Akmal being wicket keeper in T20s cost Pakistan?

Not having a good keeper costs you immensely when your only consistent strength is your bowling attack. In tight games, things like catches, stumpings, byes and runouts can make all the difference. And if your keeper ain’t up to speed, you lose those marginal gains.

But people get dazzled by some runs in the PSL Vs QG.

This is why his weight is an issue. I could care less about aesthetics, as long as a player is effective. Azam is not an effective wicket keeper behind the stumps at this level. His lack of fitness gets in the way of his reaction times.

Yes that’s true but I was asking when did Umar Akmal keep wicket in T20s that cost Pakistan with dropped catches etc.

Azam Khan is no doubt a very talented batter which we have seen in the PSL, but the fitness is not inherently the (only) problem. The point is not only that he will leak runs in the field, but what it represents.

How long have we been talking about this with 0 progress to show for it? What does it say about Azam's commitment to the cause? About his motivation to improve? About his drive to succeed and work for the team?

Talent alone is not enough to achieve longevity in elite sport, it has to be paired with hard work and an inner drive. This has been proven and studied and exhibited time and time again across any sport, it is an accepted phenomenon. Yet some people are so driven by hatred of competing players that they cannot fathom this straightforward criticism.

Other players have proven their hard work and determination in improving weak areas in their skill set. For Azam, he needs to prove it in his fitness. And he has proven nada.

Look at Usman Khawaja, he already looked in not so bad of a shape but in his youtube video, he clearly says that the coach Justin Langer told him straight up, to lose 10 pounds and be fitter, or you are out.
And Khawaja had to do it - no other option and no excuses.

Azam Khan will always be a liability in International cricket because he is a poor keeper. No amount of batting prowess is enough to compensate.

He will do well in franchise cricket and will keep teasing his fan base.

All about professionalism.

That's why we lag behind others.

It shouldn't even be an option for Azam, it should be a must.

So the scammer has been protected by not being sent at no.5 today.

What a scaredy cat.

Fraud out for 1. Honestly how can this guy have any fans? He is a complete embarrassment.

Scammer did what he does best trudge back to the pavilion with his head hung in shame. Just a domestic bully who will average 10 at best in any format.

Not a great start to Azam Khan's international career:

1
0
1
5*

Innings 4
Runs 7
Average 2.33
Strike rate 53.84

Another PSL GOAT put to casket sorry my friend international cricket is not for slouchs

Just goes to show the level of PSL is atrocious. No where near the level some people think. Hence why Pakistan producing dreadful average player. The parameter has to be domestics where players are averaging 50+ at a strike rate of 100+ in ODI and strike rates of 15+ and average of 25+ in t20

Truth is that he is not even a PSL GOAT. He averaged 40 in the last season where there were roads where Shaheen was also playing like a genuine batter.

Azam has scored 700 odd runs in domestic cricket at an average of 28. Hence for me he will always be a fraud, a scammer and an example of nepotism.

Simply outclassed. For someone who is supposed to be a good player of spin?

We all know that the standard of PSL isn't the best.

But the wickets in PSL this year were flatter than ever before, which is why fraud Azam did decently. I don't remember him doing anything of note in the previous PSL editions.

He will come good.

These pitches are absolutely horrible and you won't find these pitches elsewhere.

His true value will be recognised when playing in other countries.
