[VIDEOS] Faheem Ashraf - flash in the pan or worth sticking with?

Fahim has done well with the bat in Tests.

But ODIs are never going to be his forte especially with the bat. He is not a finisher, doesn't have the shots to react to what the bowlers are throwing at him or the mental presence to manipulate the fields.

Hasn't scored more than 32 in an ODI since his debut. Hasan is a better batter than him in LOIs comfortably. At this point I would rather have Anwar Ali if I were to have a seam bowling allrounder in the ODI team.

I would much rather prefer we go back to the likes of Junaid, Wahab, Shinwari instead of Hasnain, Fahim, Musa, Haris etc

Amad Butt and Aamir Yamin are just about ok with the ball and both are about par with the bat with Yamin probably being the better batter. I wouldn't invest in either of these guys.

In England yamin would work he can open the bowling and can be a decent lower order batter.ammad butt is not a new bowler so I wouldn't invest time in him.

Wasim jnr is good with both bat and ball I would definitely invest in him
 
Unfortunately PCB has invested way too much into him and that's why he keeps on getting games for Pakistan.

Every now and then he will chip in with a wicket or two but more often than not will be taken to the cleaners against good quality sides.

The less said about his non-existent batting in the shorter formats, the better.
 
Fahim should continue playing test cricket but Pakistan need to stop playing so called all rounders for the sake of it.
 
Sir Faheem dropped from the 1st T20.

The playing XI is already looking decent on paper without this so called Allrounder.
 
Please never want to see him again. If he played it would have been like 0 (1) with bat and 0-43 (3) with ball. He is biggest culprit in our ODI team. Imad all the way.
 
Seems to turn into a beast when confronted with the pure form of the game. Still at the crease and adding some respectability to the scorecard.
 
Playing like a genuine all-rounder now - 2 quick wickets to turn the complexion of the game for Pakistan.

Decent effort from him.

A couple more quick wickets and he could be on for the Man of the Match award.

Come on saj Test cricket isnt a game for bits and pieces cricketers like him

He ll chip in with a few runs and 2-3 wkts a game but this isnt t20 cricket Hes not gonna win u test matches n take many 5 wkt hauls or make consistent test tons

His spot is being wasted at the moment Pakistan could do with a proper batter whos gonna make some big runs

This isnt a luxury pakistan can afford with their brittle batting.
 
Scored some important runs on a difficult wicket and broke settled partnerships in both the innings.
 
In a test match he shouldnt be playing but in Pak... there is no one to replace him.

So I guess he plays until someone better comes along.

Hi is not a match winner in tests but neither are about 7 other players.....

Does pakistan really need his couple of wickets a test and inconsequential runs

Or someone at 6 who can potentially make test tons and avge 45 plus
 
He's contributing.

If you have a Kyle Jamieson or Ben Stokes in waiting- by all means select them. But he took some key wickets and scored handy runs in a low scoring match. At the moment he is not the issue.

Openers- spinner- fast bowler- these spots are producing far less.
 
Faheem is far from the problem with this Test team. However, he shouldn’t be shoe-horned into the limited overs side due to his Test performances either.

Actually Test cricket is EXACTLY the game for bits and pieces players like Faheem Ashraf.

Pakistan should not pick 4 Shoaib Akhtars even if they had them. You can have two bowlers who can't bat but you also need:

A Number 7 to score 70 runs per Test at an average of 35 and take 2 wickets per Test at 35-40 each.
A Number 8 to score 60 runs per Test at an average of 25 and take 3 wickets per Test at 30 each.
A Number 9 to score 50 runs per Test at an average of 20 and take 3.5 wickets at 28 each.

That's what is so good about Faheem and Shadab:

Shadab scores 50 runs per Test at an average of 33.33 and takes 2.5 wickets at 36 each.
Faheem scores scores 60 runs per test at an average of 37.26 and takes 2 wickets at 33 each.

That is pretty much exactly what you need from your Test Number 7 and Number 8.
 
They backed him again and again, played him again and again and now all that investment has been ignored and he has been left out of the T20 World Cup squad.

I'm not saying it's the wrong decision to drop him, but why not do this earlier when it was clear that he was struggling.

That basically sums up the problem with this squad . . there was 0 planning, vision, strategy for this team in the last 2 years . .
From the opening debacle to its consequences on the likes of Fakhar and Haider . .
to sending Haider down the order to make him play a game he hasnt played before to trying Asif, Khushdil, Danish, Iftekhar, Hussain Talat, Sarfaraz, Maqsood to Azam . . a lot of them didn't even get a long enough rope to actually show whether they can be part of the setup . . when you induct a player who is expected to perform or be knocked out 2 games later . . expecting players to get set is insanity . .

There are many other such examples but all in all . . The chief selector today was shooting in the dark because the whole setup (selectors plus team management) had no idea who their best players are . . that is a consequence of the chaotic planning in the last 2 years . .
 
Omission of faheem and usman qadir from the squad is an actual surprise their bowling performances in t20 were generally economical and acceptable

The post of the CS is useless. Mohd Wasim whenever he has selected a squad on his own, Misbah and Babar have gone complaining to the CEO. If the captain and the coach have every say in the squad then the role of the CS is useless. Make the captain and coach solely responsible for selections

Agreed, they could have given Wasim more chances to truly show what he can do. To be fair, if it wasn't for all the rainouts vs WI, maybe he would have.

What has become clear over time though is that Faheem is clearly a Test player and not really all that well suited for LOI even though this is what he was initially selected for.
 
Faheem should have been dropped well earlier and brought in either Amad Butt, Mohammad Wasim jnr or Aamir Yamin and actual capable ARs.

Faheem’s roles in the team is to play as an all rounder. He doesn’t get into the team as bowler only because we have far better bowlers than him who haven’t been picked.

If he isn’t contributing with both bat and ball then he shouldn’t be considered for selection.
 
Fahim is a good test allrounder where he is capable of scoring fifties frequently. He is usually bowling as a support bowler who can keep the run rate in check while giving a reliever to other bowlers. A couple of wickets is only a bonus.

The problem is Fahim has never been a finisher or a batter suited to LOIs. It's just been evident for so long now. Yet the management kept playing him in that role again and again hoping he would magically develop finishing skills. Anwar Ali is a far more suitable option for t20is if the role is to bat at no.8 while bowling 5-6 overs.
 
He's bowled well this game and isn't bad in the UAE, the problem is in LOI's, he's not a AR in the two formats.

I have almost given on him , he is been a disappointment over the years , but if has improved his game finally , that's a good signs. He has to perform more consistently though .
 
1 good game out of 10 doesn’t warrant wanting him in the side. He is not international caliber
 
He needs to improve his batting until he does that he should not be picked

Scratched around, played and missed, tried some reverse sweeps and looked clueless against spin.

This man is playing as a Test all-rounder.
 
Am sick and tired of the Pakistani selectors and team managements thinking that this guy is the only pace bowling all rounder in the country when you have the likes of Aamir Yamin, Amad Butt and Ahmed Jamal in the system.

Really poor effort.

Why would you select someone when your not gonna bowl him?

Are there not enough players in pakistan that you pick him just to make the numbers up?

He is neither a pace bowler , nor an all rounder. Can;t bowl, can;t bat, Misbah unearthed this Pakistani version of Ian Botham and persisted with him, Babar inherited him and continued with him due to his " seniority". Once in a while he scores some useless 30-35 runs and then plays for another 3-4 tests. Similar has been the case with Azgar for last 4 years , thank God that torture will be over soon.
 
Faheem is done and dusted.He should not play for Pakistan again.It would have been better to give a chance to one of Muhammad Umar,Sameen Gul Mir Hamza or Arshad Iqbal.Faheem is not an allrounder.Pakistan doesn’t have a genuine fast bowling allrounder.It is better to play a specialist bowler than bits and pieces player.PCB did nothing to find an allrounder after Razaq and Azhar Mahmood retired.
 
We checked with the PCB today.

Faheem was not injured and was fully fit today.

1 over only? What is going on?

If the skipper doesn't have faith in him then what is he doing in the side?
 
in his only over he was bowling better line and length then wasim but was only given one over.. seems like our management forgets who to give overs to

Cannot get my head around the tactics and plans.
 
If Faheem bowled England would not had got that many runs as he would had restricted runs per over as the Wnglish batsmen got comfortable with Pakistani spinners and they bowled many tired overs.
 
Surely he must have picked up an injury early in the day, otherwise there is no rational explanation as to why he only bowled one over. Bizarre.
 
It feels like someone or a few people in the management stills believe in Faheem.

The rest have given up. So many weaknesses in his game.
 
Looks like Babar knew Faheem was a useless pathetic cricketer and didn't want him in the team but forced to include him in 11 and he could not find any use of him other than just a tailender batter.

Fahim had a brief purple patch after his comeback in 20/21 but seems to have reverted back to mediocrity.

He was horrendous in County Cricket and looks like another failed investment.

That said only bowling one over is ludicrous even by Babar's captaincy standards.

Faheem is a good player, particularly on seaming tracks- with both bat and ball.

But he should not be picked for matches like this and made a fool of. Horses for courses.
 
You guys are forgetting the admirable job he has done many times in past tests. But yeah, he shouldn't be made to play this role in the last two tests. It is pure stupidity.

Absolutely disgrace to see Faheem represent Pakistan. This guy is only useful if the boundary length is 40 metres away otherwise he is a walking wicket. A country with a dense population yet journeymen keep getting picked.

The impending 3-0 loss is well deserved. Keep it up Pakistan they will complete the mission when the Black Caps destroy them.

2 overs for 13 in the 2nd innings, and again no scalps at all.

Barring a flurry of wickets tomorrow that turn him into a hero, this goes down as one of the less prominent Test match appearances of recent times.
