[VIDEOS] "In Pakistan I am famous as a finisher" : Iftikhar Ahmed

Well he did it today.

Ifti chacha has sealed his spot for the next 2 years.

The wisdom of Chacha comes into the equation - how calm!

I hope now that he has sealed his spot he plays more freely in the WC. Always seems like he can do much better than he eventually does.

Ended the game in style! He seems to bat batter when he comes in late. When he’s in early he wastes too many balls. Maybe we should keep him coming later in the order?

He has hit a winning six in both our last 2 tour games in NZ now hehe 2020 and 2022

There you go, 19 of 13. Chacha will now play the next WC no question.

Loved the nonchalant way he took off his helmet at the end - no jumping up and down etc

There is wisdom in Iftikhar!

Khushdil and Asif are still the weak links.Chacha is not too bad.He can bat and can be used in middle overs for a couple of overs if one of the main bowlers have an off day.

Not sure how the medical experts here have determined Iftikhar's "secret age" just by looking at him. Everybody ages differently. I started losing my hair in Grade 10 and at 20 years old I looked like I was 40 years old. Maybe everyone here has highly prestigious medical degrees. They can diagnose through their TV screens.

I fail to see why that is an issue.

He is playing for Pakistan and as long as he produces the results, his age is irrelevant except for a few who look to demean Pakistan at any opportunity.

Chacha ji has done well as a bits and pieces player recently.

A couple of handy knocks with the bat and a couple of good spells with the ball.

He has cemented his place in the WC squad and can hopefully bring us glory.

How cool and calm was that finish

Ice cool from chach!

Even if chachi had the chance to bat in 30 plus T20 innings, she would eventually hit a winning knock. This is how nature works as Saqi says.

He is selected based on merit and we need a mature player like him in the middle.

Yes some innings have been horrible, but overall, not too bad. I feel that PCT has not supported him 100%

The bowling is a handy advantage to have as he goes under the radar with good spells. Chacha is a special love hate relationship with Pak cricket.

Was doing well until this...

Felt sorry for him. He was looking good today

Asif Ali is now a hesitant runner too. First with Ifti and then with Wasim. He's quite the douche.

Best innings of his career so far . Looked much better than hyped Rizwan

Big loss - rest have done nothing

Chacha rocks.

Another Misbah product shining.

Always said he’s a good hitter specially under Aus/NZ/Eng conditions.

Likes the bounce n ball coming on to bat.

Good to see you back, and paying homage to the legend :ifti

If Pakistan wins today it will be because of Chacha. Ya'll better start showing him some respect

Not only was it a fine innings but his catch was excellent too today.

Excellent innings in front of a crowd of 90k.
Does it get bigger than this? @Saj

If there were ever any doubts about this guy being our best middle order option, he couldn't have dispelled them more emphatically. Excellent innings. Chacha isn't flashy but he is solid and easily our best six hitter.

I have said this above in the same thread, this guy has an xfactor about him. He may look innocuous but can pack a punch and has more than decent technique. Maybe peaked later in life or was picked late but this guy will be crucuial in the odi wc especially. Excellent utility cricketer.

Batted like a Hulk today. Babar and Rizwan don't have the firepower to hit sixes like he does.

Respect Chacha.

Babar missed a trick by not slipping in an over or two from him aswell.

Pakistan are historically a 6 bowler side.

Chacha is a more than competent bowler but 9/10 babar overlooks him and sticks rigidly to his plan.

It was clearly his day. He could have taken that confidence into his bowling too. I feel Babar missed a trick by not utilising him.

Immortal innings

Great catch of Sharma too

Chacha was sublime today

He would have done so if Axar didn’t get out

I always consider him a very utility cricketer. A good middle order batsman who can hit sixes and also play sensibly when required. Today he hit those monster sixes . He enjoyed Aussies pitches . Perfect for this fragile middle order.

Iftikhar loves batting in Australian pitches. The only 2 50s he has made in his T20i career has been in Australia.

Can't say he isn't a finisher. First the knock against New Zealand, now this :misbah

On a more serious note, I think he is capable of a lot more than people give him credit for. And I have a feeling that he will deliver an impactful performance very soon.

Some people here seem to have very short memories, but I haven't forgotten how around the same time last year everyone was clamoring for his inclusion into the T20 side (and right so) because he was flattening the competition in the domestic T20 cup.

Like Nawaz, he has earned a place based on years of hardwork and consistency in the domestic set-up. My advice to fans would be to have some patience and not immediately start advocating their favorite 'flash in the pan' 21 year old who may be good 5 years from now.

Hate to be that guy but I told you so.

Iftikhar is a good batsman who can produce these kind of innings. Too bad the age isn't on his side.

Iftikhar looks like Misbah, bats like Misbah, and even belts spinners like Misbah. That hitting by him today was a pure joy to watch. At one stage, it seemed that he might run away with the game and may succeed in setting India a big target, but what a pity that he got out just at the wrong time, and then the rest crumble like they usually do. Once Iftikhar got it, it was the usual stuff of getting this batting line-up over the line with hopes and prayers. A big positive for Pakistan, ever since the recent Asia Cup T20, has been that the tail has been contributing a lot in the batting as well, but it should actually never come to that, ideally.

A great match today, great drama, a tense finish! One of the greatest Indo-Pak matches ever, no doubt.

Immortal innings

Chacha was sublime today

Indeed. It was his day today. Sublime hitting and towering sixes were a joy to watch. It got my father jumpy and excited! :)

Played a great innings here, but maaan I was annoyed when he got out. Potentially could've have taken the game away by the throat here. Still, well played Ifti :ifti.

Chacha loves Indian spinners

Don’t feed him Indian spinners!!

It was clearly his day. He could have taken that confidence into his bowling too. I feel Babar missed a trick by not utilising him.

Agree, even if it was a couple of overs that could have meant that Nawaz didn't need to bowl 4 overs or at the end of the innings.

Batsmen with long levers do well in Australia. That reach allows them to get under the ball. He will enjoy these wickets.

You need someone strong square of the wicket on these Aussie grounds. A good cutter but also a good puller.

This is why UA of 2009-2010 was so fire here. Same with Sharjeel. And now… Ifti continues that legacy.

Ifti has performed well in this tournament. A big match player unlike overrated Babar.

Another brilliant innings from Iftikhar. He loves Australia.

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/9azeeg" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

Pundits were questioning his selection but his Australia tour performance in 2019 showed he has a liking for these wickets whereas struggled on more sluggish Asian surfaces.

His name should never be taken with Khushdil Shah, Asif Ali and other middle-order failures, he's a class above them.

Time to pay homage to the Don :ifti

Speaking to PCB:

"First of all, I would like to thank my management, coaches who have trusted me a lot and you have to respond to criticism through your performance"

"And Alhamdullilah the way our side has picked up form, unfortunately we lost against Zimbabwe but still we are in this World Cup. It is still not clear but we will give our 100% and try to qualify for the semi-final.

"My role in the side is to take the game deep if we lose wickets quickly because you need players in the side who can take the game till the end and finish things off. I will also give credit to Shadab for his outstanding batting."

Shut up a few critics too who loved sniggering about his age.

Technically he's much tighter than a lot of his middle order compatriots, those who have carped about his age have missed that. His footwork is better, shot selection more judicious. Other more 'talented' hitters like Haider or Asif don't pick the line and length quick enough and end up getting outfoxed by every bowler who doesn't pitch it into their arc.
