The former RCB captain Virat Kohli said it is Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s goal to win at least one IPL title in the three-year cycle:

“Hi Guys, a big hello to everyone at RCB, the fans, the people involved. Behind the scenes. The management, everyone. I’m sending out this message to inform everyone that l’ve been retained by RCB once again for the three-year cycle of the IPL, beginning next year, and I’m super excited as ever. "

"Everyone knows what RCB means to me. It’s been a very, very special relationship over so many years which continues to grow stronger and what I’ve experienced playing for RCB is truly, truly special, and I hope the fans and everyone who’s connected to a franchise feels the same way. At the end of this cycle it’s going to be 20 years that l am going to play for RCB and then that in itself is an honour,"

Kohli is from Delhi. Why is Delhi Capitals not getting Kohli?

If only that's how the IPL worked.

It was like that when it first started though: Tendulkar in Mumbai, Ganguly in Kolkata, Dravid in Bangalore, etc.

And that's why RCB will struggle to win. Shelling out 21 cr to retain Kohli in 2024 is just poor whichever you look at it.

As the cricketing fraternity awaited the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 retention lists to be announced, rumours of Virat Kohli returning as the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru also started to float. The chatter intensified as the RCB left out skipper Faf du Plessis from the retention list, strengthening fans' believes that Kohli would re-take the team's captaincy. However, RCB's Director of Cricket Mo Bobat poured cold water on Kohli's captaincy rumours, saying the franchise hasn't made any decision on the matter yet.

lol, who spends 21 crores on a had been like Kohli! Only RCB! No wonder, they count for nothing in IPL. Or unless there are some other commercial aims of the team management for buying out Kohli for such princely sum.

With a totally undeserved price tag like that and a pliant BCCI at his beck and call, no wonder we have been bearing the curse which is Kohli on Indian cricket.

RCB management is a stone cold psycho

More of a business decision than cricketing decision. Business wise it’s a brilliant decision which will fetch them millions of $$.
Cricketing wise it might be an useless decision which won’t fetch them any trophies.

IPL owners are businessman looking to capitalise on profits.

Fans don’t understand that basic difference in decision making hence will remain poor.

Read post above, all about business and money making!!
Don’t confuse the two.

Even CSK wants Dhoni (till he crosses 50+ maybe) for maintaining their brand. CSK & RCB gain so much popularity for this reason (so-called iconic players). Mumbai is in a way closer to professional football leagues who depend on overall commercial value, collective players and winning standards... I am sure Rohit will be the first one to be discarded ahead of Kohli & Dhoni... Other franchisees are merely there for filling up the numbers... Maybe GT has kind of Modi Support... KKR & RR perhaps have some interest due to their winning spirits (Due to terrific management).

Overall IPL is not totally performance-oriented... Sadly it is based on commercial value of star-cricketers! It will take some bold-steps to turn into total professional entity (maybe that way it can gain more fans outside India too...)

What a stupid decision

✅ Kohli
❌ Siraj
❌ Maxwell
❌ Faf
❌ Green

Some big players not retained by RCB

Former RCB player, Robin Uthappa, said during conversation with local media outlet:

"I think they (RCB) should look at Rajat Patidar to take over that role because it seems like you need a new leader after two years. So, you might as well do it now to get ahead of the curve and build a captain for the next three to five years. Rajat is one of those players who can actually play that role for them."

During an interview with RCB, Rajat Patidar:

“The RCB scouting team closely followed my domestic performances for a couple of years before bringing me into the team. The training camps weren't just about practice—they were crucial in refining my game, boosting my confidence, and helping me realize my potential.”

“The coaches and management were always there to guide and support me, giving me clarity on my role within the team and strengthening my self-belief. All of this played a huge part in what I've been able to achieve for both the team and my own game.”

Ravi Ashwin said on a video posted on his official YouTube:

“In all likelihood, I think Virat Kohli is going to captain that side."

"That’s the feeling I get because they haven’t gone for a captain. Unless and until they are going to go with somebody else. I don’t see anyone other than Virat as captain."

'It's A New Era...': RCB Head Coach Andy Flower Clarifies Rumours On Virat Kohli's Captaincy Return

The Head Coach of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru clarified the ongoing rumours that Virat Kohli may reprise his role as skipper ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

With Faf du Plessis’ exit, the franchise is in search of a new skipper and reports have suggested that Kohli would be leading the franchise once again. But Andy Flower revealed that they are yet to discuss anything for the upcoming season.

“Well, you’re going to have to wait for the outcome. It’s a new era that we are going into, the start of a three-year cycle, and I’m sure the anticipation will be good for you," Flower was quoted by SportsTak ahead of the third season of the ILT20.

“You can ask me as often as you like, but that communication has not happened yet," Flower clarified.

Kohli’s captaincy journey with the franchise began in 2013 and took them to a final in the 2016 edition. But after the 2021 season, the iconic batter decided to step down from the role. However, he has been the captain on occasions when the designated skipper was not available.

He had stepped in when du Plessis had picked up an injury, forcing him to come on as an impact substitute in the 2023 season. Despite not being the official captain, Kohli remains an influential figure in the dressing room, always being involved in key discussions for the franchise or the national team.

Kohli has been under the spotlight recently with his poor batting form. Despite scoring a century in the opening Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he was not able to get a big score as the Indian team went on to lose the series 1-3. However, Kohli’s IPL record of late has been a big positive. He finished as the season’s highest run-scorer with 741 runs from 15 games.

The Bengaluru-based franchise made some major additions to their squad in the recently concluded mega-auctions. They picked up the likes of Phil Salt, Krunal Pandya, Liam Livingstone, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood and more. The side will hope that the new additions with a good leader can help end their longstanding wait for a maiden IPL title.

Wow rcb made patidar as captain. Patidar is not even fot to play as a player.rcb management must be one of the pathetic in the world

Man sick of hearing about this RCB RCB RCB thing everywhere. IPL has no relevance to 99% of people not Indians. You can back this up by going to many other online Western portals. Every franchise discussion anywhere gets overtaken by this RCB nonsense by Indian fans.

Do not even know this guy. But this is a shot in the dark. It may turn out stupid or genius.

The big name captains did zilch over the years. So, looking at it that way, this guy cannot do worse.

He played against eng in a test series and got dumbfounded by quality bowling (pace or spin). He is an absolutely horrible player with out any technique. Not sure about his captaincy.

AB de Villiers on Virat Kohli while speaking to an Indian media outlet:

"It's great to see him stepping out of his comfort zone, trying new shots, and exploring different aspects of his game. He's always had that ability in him. You can see how much it means to him. Winning the IPL with RCB would be the perfect finishing touch to his already phenomenal career."

"He was outstanding last season. His strike rate wasn't the problem - he played exactly the role his team needed him to. Unlike someone like Fraser McGurk for Delhi Capitals, Virat had the responsibility of holding the innings together. He deserves full credit for playing a crucial role in RCB's qualification.”

"The scrutiny over Virat's strike rate was absolutely ridiculous. He had done exactly what his team needed from him. It's all about the situation. When he has someone at the other end he trusts, you see him experiment and play with more freedom. But when that's not the case, he stays true to his natural game -anchoring the innings when needed.”

They have a solid unit this time. Bhuvaneswar kumar has joined them. Hazlewood looked great. Servicable spinners. Good batting depth. No better chance than this.

Dunno, the spinning dept feels a bit weak, but that won’t matter if they play mostly in Chinnaswami. Ee saala cup namde?
