Former cricketer and head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq is aging like a fine wine quite literally with his bat. In the ongoing Legends League Cricket in Doha, the 48-year-old played a blazing inning of 44 runs off 19 balls and tugged Lions to 99/3 in 10 overs.

Abdur Razzak and Shahid Afridi delivered an economic spell and picked up two wickets each - leading their team to a comfortable win over World Giants.

The highlight of the match remained Misbah-ul-Haq's fiery inning of 44 runs including four boundaries and three sixes. Tillakaratne Dilshan provided support from the other end and both the former cricketers established a fifty-run stand.

I am finding it a lot more fun than watching PSL.

The boundaries are larger than the shame we have at PSL.

And the game spirit is a lot better.

Harbhajan dismiss Hafeez.. btw like the pitch, it did supports bowlers..

It's a delight to watch Robin Uthappa.
My all time favorite Indian batsman to watch for style and class.

He wasn't a whole lot successful in the international arena, but he is more stylish and classical than Kohli and Tendulkar.

Fixer Amir having issues with Misbah for playing international. Now playing under same Misbah for money 😂.

misbah could do a job at five for us right now (/s just a little bit tho).....i am a little amazed he's still got the sharpness in his skills. must still practice surely to be this tuned?

Some of the banter between the players is hilarious.

Shahid Afridis gentle needling of Shoaib was brilliant.

Mentioning that there was a good chance that Shoaib wouldnt play a game and that he is happy because he is getting paid anyway.

Doha Qatar: Shoaib Akhtar bowled the seventh over cheered by the crowd. Uthappa pulled his fourth and last delivery for boundaries with a few from the crowd shouting as to what happened to his express deliveries. Hafeez, who bowled the ninth over, was pulled by Uthappa over mid-wicket into the stands for three consecutive sixes to race to his half-century in just 27 balls. He also picked a boundary and took 23 runs off that over. The onslaught continued against Isuru Udana with Uthappa and Gambhir picking boundaries with ease.
At the halfway mark, India Maharajas needed just 33 runs in the last 60 balls. Gambhir reached his half-century in 32 balls and steered his team to victory with 45 balls to spare.

Gayle Force takes World Giants past India Maharajas by 3 wickets

Doha, Qatar: World Giants, riding on Chris Gayle’s commanding knock of 57, recorded a three-wicket victory over India Maharajas in the 5th match of the Skyexch.net Legends League Cricket (LLC) Masters at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Doha.

The West Indies’ legendary hard-hitter, who has Gayle Force as one of his many nicknames, hit nine powerful boundaries and a six in this 46-ball knock. So dominating was Gayle’s knock that after he fell, World Giants struggled to reach the target and but, in the end, won with eight balls to spare.

World Giants won the toss and elected to field. India Maharajas had a different set of openers as Robin Uthappa opened with Manvinder Bisla. In his absence, it was Harbhajan Singh who led the team.

Gayle raced to his half century in 26 balls with nine boundaries and a six. Watson became the second wicket to fall when Tambe clean bowled him for 26 with the second ball of the ninth over. Harbhajan also had Finch who went for a sweep and top edged to Tambe for 5. In the last ten overs, World Giants needed 38 runs.

Tambe bowled a brilliant 11th over giving away just one run beating a well-set Gayle repeatedly. Ross Taylor, going for a slog shot off Yusuf Pathan, fell to a brilliant catch by Raina in the deep for 7. Samit Patel hit back to back boundaries off Raina in the 15th over but he struck to trap Gayle leg before with the last ball of the over for 57.

Yusuf Pathan clean bowled Patel for 12 when 12 runs were needed. Ricardo Powell got run out for 3 and in the end Morne van Wyk hit the winning boundary off Irfan Pathan.

LLC has become larger than life Shoaib Akhtar

The legendary, former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar etched his name in cricketing history by becoming the first player to shatter the elusive 100-mile barrier. With the speedometer soaring to a staggering 161.3 Kilometers per hour, Akhtar's feat stands unrivalled to this day, a testament to the ferocity and skill of one of the game's most fearsome pacers.

The pacer is now playing for the Asia Lions franchise in the Skyexch.net Legends League Cricket Masters (LLC) in Doha. The 47-year-old spoke about his experience playing in the LLC Masters. He said

“The LLC is a wonderful tournament. The tournament has become larger than life. The league will start to get more competitive now going forward with the recently-retired players who might join the league in coming seasons, the league will only grow.”

“I would like to thank Vivek and Raman Raheja for a fantastic job in putting this mega tournament together. It’s great fun to play against these guys. The platform is providing me an opportunity to meet my old friends. It’s a burst of memories when we all are playing together. We share old anecdotes from our playing time. We share a good bond and give our best so that the fans can enjoy,” he added.

The ‘Rawalpindi Express’ is hard to derail, despite several injuries over the last few years, it has not stopped him from charging at full speed towards the batter. Talking about the same, he said, “Unfortunately I injured myself while diving yesterday and twisted my knee. If I was not injured, I would have definitely bowled my 4 overs and try to add value to the team. But last year I made sure that I play every game and bowl 4 overs. Its about how much can I participate and make it big for this league. I am just a little contributor to make this league better and enhance the value of my team.”

Suresh Raina’s eyes on LLC Masters Trophy

Legends League Cricket (LLC) Masters has reached its final stages. India Maharajas have come close to winning twice, and once they have shown what they are capable of. But after the loss to the World Giants on March 15, 2023, it is the last chance for the Maharajas to make it to the final as they face the Asia Lions in the eliminator match on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Doha.

Often regarded as one of the greatest Twenty20 players for India. Suresh Raina, who is playing for the India Maharajas, spoke about the tournament, his performance, and a number of topics surrounding Indian cricket.
Speaking about the performance in the match against the World Giants, Suresh Raina said, "I think we didn’t bowl well in the power play, but we came back really strongly later. Probably, I would say we could have scored a little more, I would say we were 15–20 runs short. The wicket was pretty slow, and it was very challenging for the batters to rotate the strike. I think we need to step up in the next game. Now we are in a do-or-die situation, it will be our last game if we win, and then we will qualify. How we make a comeback is going to be pretty exciting."

Commenting on the novelty factor associated with the LLC Masters, Raina said, "The kind of hospitality that we have received from LLC is amazing. We are all having fun. We are playing cricket with our old friends and teammates, those with whom we have won the World Cup, played ODIs, test matches, and even the IPL; in a way, we are playing with all the legends. It all brings back memories of when we were playing together, and everyone is enjoying themselves. The whole purpose of the LLC Masters is to spend as much time as possible playing together and entertaining the crowds."

Shahid Afridi-led Asia Lions beat India Maharajas by 85 runs to qualify for the final of Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Qatar on Saturday.

Earlier, Lions' opener Upul Tharanga led Maharajs from the front by scoring fifty off 31 balls. Hafeez scored 38 while Asghar Afghan smoked 34 runs to help the Lions post 191-5 in 20 overs.

Stuart Binny and Pragyan Ojha bagged two wickets each for Maharajas.

Asia Lions openers Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan cracked breezy half-centuries to blow away the World Giants and emerge as the new champions of the Skyexch.net Legends League Cricket (LLC) Masters. In the final held at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Doha, Asia Lions, cheered by a packed stadium, scored an emphatic seven-wicket victory with 23 balls to spare.

Tharanga and Dilshan whipped the World Giants attack to put on 115 runs-opening partnership in 9.6 overs. Dilshan cracked 58 off 42 balls with eight boundaries while Tharanga scored 57 off 28 balls with five boundaries and three sixes. Tharanga, who had also scored a 50 against India Maharajas to take Asia Lions into the final, was adjudged the Player of the Series.

Earlier, Asia Lions restricted World Giants to 147 for 4 despite Jacques Kallis’ unbeaten 78 runs off 54 balls with five boundaries and three sixes. Kallis also had a 92 runs partnership in 11.1 overs for the fourth wicket with Ross Taylor, who hit 32 off 33 balls with three boundaries.

World Giants had won the toss and elected to bat with Lendl Simmons and Morne van Wyk opening the innings. Asia Lions’ left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak opened the bowling giving away just three runs. Left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir, as usual, generated good pace off the wicket and the first boundary of the final came from Simmons, who edged through the gap in the slip region. Razzak struck with the third ball of the third over to dismiss van Wyk, who, while going for a cut, inside-edged it onto his wicket for a duck. Razzak also took the valuable wicket of skipper Shane Watson with the fifth delivery trapping him leg-before through an arm ball for a duck.

Tanvir bowled a tighter fourth over giving away just two runs. The first six of the final from Simmons was a straight hit off Razzak. Simmons, going for a quick single, was brilliantly run out by bowler Tanvir off a direct hit to the bowler’s end. Kallis picked his first boundary off Tanvir past extra cover. At the end of the powerplay, World Giants were 31 for 3.

Kallis and Ross Taylor scored singles off Mohammad Hafeez’s seventh over. Afridi, who introduced himself for the eighth over, gave away only five runs. Razzak bowled his final over brilliantly beating Kallis repeatedly, and giving away just two runs. When Afridi too bowled a tight tenth over for five runs, World Giants could muster only 49 for 3 at the halfway mark.

Although Kallis slog-swept Afridi for a six in the 12th over, runs were still hard to come. Taylor and Kallis recorded their 50-run partnership in 7.3 overs when Kallis hit Thisara Perera for a boundary to fine leg.

In the 15th over, Kallis and Taylor took one boundary each off Afridi. World Giants were still ten runs short of the 100-run mark. Kallis reached his half-century in 41 balls lifting Perera for a six to mid-wicket. Perera struck with the third ball of the 17th over to clean bowl Taylor for 32. The pair’s 92 runs in 11.1 overs literally lifted World Giants to a challenging total.

Paul Collingwood, who joined Kallis, was retired hurt for 6. Kallis then hit an effortless six to mid-wicket off Tanvir in the 19th over. In the last over bowled by Udana, Kallis hit two consecutive boundaries off the second and third deliveries to remain unconquered on 78.

Chasing the target, Asia Lions’ consistent openers Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan began to stroke smoothly. Dilshan hit Samit Patel’s second and third deliveries for boundaries while Tharanga hit the fifth ball for a six over long-on. They took 16 runs off the first over. In the second over, Tharanga pulled Brett Lee for a boundary. World Giants then replaced the costly Patel with Ricardo Powell. Tharanga chopped Powell to the third man for a boundary. Tino Best, who was introduced for the fourth over, was also hit by Dilshan through the covers for a boundary. The pair recorded their 50 runs partnership in 4.5 overs with Tharanga hitting Powell for a six.

Tharanga smashed Powell’s last ball of the fifth over too for a six to long-on. Dilshan greeted Chris Mpofu with two consecutive boundaries in the sixth over and also scored another off the fourth ball to pile up 72 runs from the powerplay.

Hoping to stop the run flow, World Giants introduced Monty Panesar. He too was not spared by Dilsan who drove him through extra cover for another boundary and took 13 runs off the over. Desperately looking for a breakthrough, Brett Lee was introduced for the eighth over. There was no impact of the bowling change. In fact, Lee was elegantly pulled for a boundary by Tharanga. In the ninth over, Tharanga reached his half-century pulling Best for a boundary. He had already hit four boundaries and three sixes. The 100-run partnership too came in 8.3 overs.

Asia Lions took the game totally away from World Giants with Dilshan too smashing Best for a boundary to mid-wicket and reaching his half-century in 32 balls with eight boundaries. The 115 runs partnership ended when Lee had Tharanga clean bowled for 57.

Asia Lions needed only 33 runs in the last ten overs. Dilshan was bowled out by Samit Patel for 58 when only 16 runs were needed for the victory in 41 balls. Mohammad Hafeez and Misbah Ul Haq steered their team to victory remaining unbeaten with nine runs each.

Brief scores:

MATCH SUMMARY:

Southern Superstars 163/3 (20)

Ricardo Powell was one of my favorite players. He was the one who was compared to Shahid Afridi in that era due to his destructive power hitting abilities.
