[VIDEOS] "Maybe those difficult moments, will make me stronger in future" : Naseem Shah

Always in the game

Thanks to him, Babar drew us 4 runs close to the deficit

Always in the game

Thanks to him, Babar drew us 4 runs close to the deficit

Most balls faced by number 11 Pakistan batter since the time Ajmal faced 79 against West Indies back in 2011. But certain deluded posters will continue writing him off eventhough he has his entire career ahead of him and has already shown tons of potential.

He has to go back to domestics he is not ready and if he does not improve in next couple of season I am afraid he will never be.

Babar Azam speaking to the PCB

"Naseem Shah showed a lot of patience today under tough conditions; I believe he is the one who helped me to get to my hundred ; If he hadn't been there, I would not have scored my century"

He's there for his bowling not his batting, not surprising his fans are clinging onto his batting performance today. The fact is, he's a mediocre and brainless bowler where the experiment has failed.

There is no point in persisting with him and we need to cut our losses asap.

You know times are desperate when you are using the “balls faced” metric to justify the potential of a fast bowler.

His captain is not even trusting him to bowl in the second innings. 42 overs bowled, 0 for Naseem Shah. Certainly a difficult moment for him. :)))

Naseem under pressure and I do wonder if he has anyone to help him through this time.

why pick a fast bowler if you don't trust to bowl him? he is a young bowler and inspite of whatever flaws he has he needs his captain support. If the captain does not trust him, he needs to be released to improve his skills in first class..

Just checked in profile and he has only played 14 FC matches apart from tests. what is hte hurry to push him to test level? may be play him in t20s if you want .. it may be unfair to him. If he is really the age he is claiming to be then his body wouldn't have fully matured physically. 21 or 22 may be the right age

5 overs out of 96 is ridiculous unless he had fitness issues.

Its shocking how hes been underbowled this game

Why pick him if your not gonna bowl him? Several selctions in this game stink of being disastrous

Because once upon a time Waqar Younis was plucked out of nowhere so Pakistan have been desperately hoping it'll happen again given the absence of any actual development strategy.

He has been totally wasted in this game. What was the management thinking playing 3 seamers?

I don't think even waqar will repeat it. Game has chs fed so much with with teams having access to recordings, expert coaching, aggressive batsman, etc. It's no more the same game of 90s

One wicket for Naseem ... 1/24 in 7 overs

FYAQymhXkAAtZkv

That left arm

Something ain’t right. I cannot pinpoint it but that left arm has always irked me about him

Babar needs to answer some questions regarding selection and overs the fast bowlers have bowled.

Spearheading the attack today. Naseem needs to step up in the absence of SSA

Excellent catch by Naseem

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 45.370%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/kn5upq" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

The more people talk trash about Naseem, the more fun it is when he gets wickets like these.

Would have gotten two in the over had Babar not dropped the catch.

Still as useless as ever, one wicket at the end of the day's play.

Naseem lacks the zip he had at the start of his career. The injuries have taken their toll. Sadly, I don't see any good news coming from him.

2 dropped catches took a wicket and went under 3 rpo can't bash him for the effort today was the pick of the bowlers

This is what I want to point too. I mean sure he clearly looks like a work in progress and going back to domestics is a good idea but why needlessly bash him today.

He looks very average but Hasan Ali looks even worse. I would take Dahani over these guys any day of the week

Hasan has depreciated a lot but at least he's done something with his career and that too at the beginning by helping us win a major trophy. But his Test record has not been too bad so I guess that's why they're persisting with him as he's just getting back to full fitness after recovering from the injuries he's had recently.

But I agree, if his performances don't improve quickly, then needs to be shown the door until he can earn his place back in the side.

His skills levels as an 85mph aren't good enough. Just looks very average without the zip he had at the start of his career

Hasan looked out of his depth against Australia and looks even worse here. Neither him or Naseem should be in our test team. Naseem had a great opportunity to play for Gloucester and went home and I know the reasons given but something didn't feel right. Our opening bowlers in tests should be SSA and Dahani. Dahani has real potential because of his high action.

Naseem bowled well today. His pace was up and got some shape as well
Those two dropped catches were pathetic.
He should have gotten two more wickets.I hope he takes some early wickets tomorrow morning.

Excellent ball to get his wicket

He bowled well today.
But should be used in short spells. For that you need two consistent pacers on the other hand to be bowling consistent long spells or in this case 1 spinner and 1 pacer who can bowl long cheap spells.
This isn't happening.

4 spinners are an overkill even on rank turners. Don't see the rationale here.

Speaking on a PCB video

"I have lot of experience of bowling with the new ball; So wherever I play whether its in County games, in white-ball games, in different leagues such as PSL I bowl with the new ball and I really enjoy it; I got the opportunity here to bowl with the new ball and I have tried to use the new ball effectively"

"Whenever we are on the field, the fast-bowlers are always talking to each other to ask about pitch conditions, movement etc. and so the same happens with me as I am always speaking to Hassan Ali or to Shaheen Shah Afridi as well"

"I usually bowl as the first change bowler but because Shaheen is not playing in this game, I got an opportunity to bowl with the new ball; In my mind I had belief that I do bowl well with the new ball so I wanted to get a good start by taking a wicket for my team and thankfully I got that wicket and that is a great feeling when you get a wicket at the start"

He should be the new ball bowler with Shaheen, not Hassan Ali

Mohammad Wasim on Naseem's inclusion in the Pakistan squads for ODIs vs Netherlands and ACC Asia Cup

“Hasan has been given a break from international cricket and he has been replaced by Naseem Shah. He is express fast and can give further impetus to the fast bowling department, which already boasts Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shahnawaz Dahani. Naseem has not played any international white-ball cricket, but he has demonstrated with the red-ball that he is an attacking option with good pace and controlled swing.

Mohammad Wasim on Naseem Shah:

"He has extra pace so we have included him as an attacking option because in white-ball cricket you need to take wickets; He can swing the ball and his temperament was shown to us in Test cricket where he has performed well; So when we brought him in place of Hassan Ali, our thought process was to have a bowler who has swing and pace, and his pressure-handling is good also; So we are hoping that just how he has been successful in red-ball cricket, Naseem will do the same in the white-ball version too"

Naseem Shah is not playing The Hundred (for Welsh Fire) due to selection for the NEDvPAK and Asia Cup squads.

Amazing delivery - moved away in the air and came in off the pitch. Unplayable

Is it me or did I see that swinging in then straightening then swinging/seaming in?

Should be opening with the bowling with Shaheen with Dahani as the third seemer.

Is it me or did I see that swinging in then straightening then swinging/seaming in?

That’s exactly what I saw initially then I thought surely not - I’m leaning towards it angling in then straightening in the air very late and then seaming back in.

Whatever it was - great delivery. Similar in nature to one of waqar’s deliveries late in his career to Thorpe. Swung in and seamed away

That's crazy. Definitely got talent! Hope the PCB work with him to use this asset more efficiently. If he can swing at will that would be destructive

Looking the part now - much more confident Naseem

With Shaheen Shah Afridi not playing in the first 2 games vs the Netherlands, Naseem Shah looks set to make his ODI debut.

In line for his ODI debut today. Praying he finds success in this format, we need a good bowler for WC 2023

Salman Ali Agha and Naseem Shah receive their ODI caps from Mohammad Yousuf and Shaheen Afridi

3 wides and 3 no balls? Okay you can hit the odd wide here and there but 3 no balls is beyond pathetic. Who trains these clowns to play professional cricket?

Lulz.

He was also the best bowler by some distance today.

What was his top pace and average pace today? I didn’t watch. Nothing stuck out on cricinfo

Both should play. We are playing freaking Netherlands!

These guys select every team for every game so conservatively it’s beyond a joke.

Both Dahani and Naseem should have played. I would have dropped Agha. I don’t see the point of him in the team.

Everything 140+.

Top which I saw was 146k. Hit 90 miles quite a few times.

But you should've watched. He was absolutely brilliant to watch today. Right from his 1st to last over. Looked like taking a wicket every over.

Ikr!

Seeing Naseem, if we had dahani too, it would've been great entertainment.

He has come leaps and bounds in white ball cricket. He took a 4fer or 5fer (I can’t remember) in PSL as well this year. He was unlucky to not have gone with the squad to the World Cup last winter. He should definitely be in the T20i squad ahead of Hassan Ali

Agha needs to be dropped for a batter with haris dropped for dhani

I agree. He's learning fast, but people somehow have so little patience for him. They just want to write him off in a hurry.

I'd take him over hasan in white ball anyday.

Guys like Kartik Tyagi, Mavi and Nagarkoti were doing quite well and were ahead of him as bowlers in white ball cricket but recently Naseem has turned a page and is bowling really well. That stint in CPL and playing under Dwayne Bravo’s pupilage has done wonders for him. He is a bowler reborn since

Fakhar Zaman speaking in post game presser:

"Naseem Shah is a very talented bowler, and we say this amongst ourselves that if Naseem can take care of himself just like Shaheen Shah Afridi does, he has a good chance of becoming a superstar because of his talent"

"Just like the way he bowled today, we can say that Naseem Shah can become a star for Pakistan in the future"

Encouraging to see him rated so highly by management.

Have always said this - while Shaheen and Babar are the all format dependable ATGs in the making, Naseem and Haider could be their x-factor counterparts, if they justify their talent. Both unfortunately haven't kicked on but they have age on their side.

Excellent! That’s what we need.

I don’t even know which channel is showing it in the UK. If anyone knows, shout out

Agreed - amazing that it took someone from another country to give him the confidence he needed. I don’t know what our coaches or even the much vaunted “senior players” actually do for our younger players with potential.

Very thankful to Bravo

Am shocked and surprised that he never featured for Pakistan in the ODI and T-20 team. His bowling suits the shorter formats. He should have been played in the limited over formats first and then gradually been bought into the test team. In Pakistan we do things the opposite way.

He was the best bowler by a mile and should have got more wickets. He was moving the ball alot more than any other bowler from any side.

Naseem spell today was brilliant he was unlucky with the drop catches and inside edges. He was beating the bat on multiple occasions.

Well, I didn't actually say he was gash, more about his discipline. But its good to hear he is improving there's been a lot of investment in him! Wasim, Rauf and associate bowlers are hardly great competition in order to be the best pace bowler on show.

That comes with experience.both Rauf and Wasim have a habit of picking up wickets and thier role is different.

I agree but that means dropping Wasim Jnr who is quite new aswell Rauf has only played 13 odi games.

Well we should be playing 4 pacers here. We shouldn't be so inflexible vs Netherlands now!
These series are meant to experiment, to explore.

The spinners aren't getting much here and more importantly, both spinners are now already part of the team.

Nawaz got a full series vs WI and now we know, he is going to be here. Time to give dahani his chance now.

Nawaz out, Dahani in will be my change for next game.

Naseem bowled well but no balls are still an issue with him.In tight games no balls and too many wides can hurt you.It was good to see his pace is back.

Impressive ODI debut barring no balls.

He will improve with time, the thing he really needs to focus on currently alongside obviously developing his bowling further is his fitness. He will have good and bad days but, one thing that I am concerned about currently is his fitness. Most young pacers are generally fragile at the age Naseem is but, I hope he works extra hard on this.
