[VIDEOS] "My performances are not as bad as people make them out to be": Iftikhar Ahmed

Ifti will be brutal as a pace hitter in the odi worldcup on those indian grounds. Powerful lad and very good hitter of pace.
 
Prime example of a player looking like his best self with the handbrake off. Whenever you saw Ifti on the bench, whilst Pak was batting, he looked like he had the world on his shoulders, looked so stressed!!

I don’t know how you do it, but you need to provide the conditions to allow Ifti to play with complete freedom.
 
He's much better than Asif Ali and Khushdil but he doesn't have age on his side.
 
He is hammering c grade bowlers in a useless league. You cant draw parallels with this and international cricket.

That being said I do think Ifti is a fine player. I would like to see him get a run in ODIs at number 3 or 4 instead of in the lower order.

He has the ability to bat long and deep at a decent rate.

He is going to be a major factor in odi wc in India if selected. He reminds me of Afridi the way he smashes spinners.

He is pretty effective (perhaps more so) against pace too.

I think we do need to let him settle in up the order as he is too good to be considered as a middle over slogger.

Babar needs to be brave and let him bowl a bit too. He seems only willing to bring him on against a few lefties.

But yeah you are quite right that if Pakistan attend the WC then Ifti could be a big player.

Time to send an SOS for Ifti.

Get him in the test side over Agha Salman.

He can bowl better than Agha and if the pitches are phattas he can take on the English bowlers.

He has the ability to play bazball.
 
I don't think Iftikhar is the answer to all our problems but it was never made clear why he was left out of the Test squad.

I would rather have Ifti in the squad over Azhar and Agha (who tbf wasn't awful) and perhaps even over Zahid Mahmood
 
Iftikhar is big under achiever in international cricket, he got many opportunities in T20Is but has rarely made significant contribution in team's victory. He has not done anything special in Asia cup, 7 T20s against Eng, NZ tri series. Even in the T20 WC he played well only against Ind & SA. Against India after hitting 4 sixes of Ashwin & Axar Patel he literally threw his wicket.
 
For a while it looked as it Iftikhar may be given a rope in the middle order in ODIs.
May not be possible with the new management now as he is not named in 21 probables for the series against NZ!
 
3/43 in 8 overs in the Pakistan Cup so far - his batting will probably win the SF for KP v BAL

how come thats a promising start.. remove that 1 six & 1 four then he scored 3 (8) his strike rotation is a big problem, cant do that in BPL too

Im glad Afridi unplugged connection chamchas and kicked out KIA in his first assignment... and selected proper middle order batsman who can be relied upon for strike rotation as well as big shots..

Its a T20 game

so 4 and 6 are a good start to the innings!
 
I think we need him in the one day squad he is a more than handy bowler.

This is a decent enough one day team with reasonable batting and the 5th bowler duties can be split between Haris sohail, Ifti and Agha.
 
He’s a decent batsmen to have.

Shame that Rashid made him look like a club player.

He is not that bad. People hate him unnecessarily because of his looks.
After the T20 world cup, I have started to believe this guy needs one last consistent run.
 
He is a much superior version of agha salman. Can really power hit on those indian grounds at the worldcup.
 
Should be a lock for the ODI World Cup.
Think Afridi probably had him as a T20 player only.

Iftikhar Ahmed | Player of the Match: It was a good wicket and I enjoyed batting. The top order batted well but as a senior player the responsibility was on me to bat till the end and take us to a good total. There's always momentum when you win and hopefully we can carry that forward.
 
We can give him a run we have enough stability in the form of babar rizwan and imam we can afford ifti at 5
I ll give agha some more time because he has surpassed my expectations and looked good at times
 
Why isn't he in the ODI squad? Clearly a better player than Harris Sohail.

Forget T20s, Ifthikar should be batting at number 5 in ODIs. Instead, we bring back unfit Haris Sohail. :facepalm:
 
If he is to play in the next 50 over world cup it will be down the order at 6
 
I am convinced Iftikhar should be our number 3 in T20i cricket if Babar doesn’t want to take responsibility as a batsman
 
Iftikhar did pretty well in the T20 WC. I was surprised that he was not in the team’s think tank for white ball or even red ball.

He is a matured cricketer and we should make use of that.

There is room for both. Haris at 4 & Iftikhar at 5, but Pakistan cricket is all about accommodating Rizwan & doing whatever it takes to ensure that his mediocrity is not exposed.

It will be very hard for me to forget that over of adil rashid against iftikhar that changed the whole game.

Rizwan can open instead of Fakhar, who is getting older & not the player he was in spite of the recent hundred. But Rizwan is not fit enough, he is cramping in almost every innings.

Rizwan could have played at number 6 but he is not good enough to do so.

The bottom-line is that Rizwan is mediocre & he is also unfit, but for some reason, the entire team combination has to be compromised to ensure that he is not exposed.

Mainly due to the management. They destroyed his confidence. Outwardly you can say that he's played 20+ T20Is in 2022 but the in-game management was poor. He was set up to fail so many times. I even remember that in the World Cup he dropped one catch and then was seen fielding most of the time at fine-leg or third-man.
A better captain and coach can get out atleast 2-3 top years out of Iftikhar, making best use of him.

The issue is who will replace Rizwan as Pakistan’s keeper?

Unless you’re willing to roll with Sarfraz or Azam.

Outside of Rizwan, Pakistan have no viable options.

Khushdil has this issue far more than Ifti

Khushdil is the biggest chicken I have seen in the Pakistan shirt. That is unfortunate because he clearly has the ability to play hard!

Rizwan is a great keeper and a decent enough bat. He shouldn't be in the top 4, but there is place for him in the team.

Haris has shocking fitness and I believe that he is finished at international level.
 
Lets be honest, BPL is not really a very high quality league. Even Shakib has said it

LOL “MISBAH” when it comes to international cricket where is his performance bro? Scores 0 vs eng in the final. Where was this form? Akhtar is correct Misbah Tuktuk 2.0. Performs well in Small league but 0 in international. Great find by Misbah who can do Tuktuk in international but in small league he is a power hitter.

You want to drop Fakhar who is ‘not the player he was’? Sure, tell us more along with how Stokes has dodgy knees and is finished..
 
Third class Player! International level he can’t perform. Better to stay in that league. My message to Iftikhar is to settle in Bangladesh and play small leagues.

Both fakhar and Rizwan were the best performers in the recently concluded series but you want to drop them from the team lol. It just shows your hatered for certain players. You won't criticize haris sohail who is an unfit old guy who has forgotten how to play pace.
 
Based on his performances for Pak, he needs to be kept far far away from the team.

That over he played against Adil Rashid in the final of a WC should be reason enough for him to get permanently dropped.

A timid, confused nothing sort of a batsman for Pakistan.
 
Not to forget the match losing innings he played along with Rizwan in the Asia Cup final.

Such single handed tournament losing innings should see the end of players like Iftikhar
 
It was his innings against South Africa we were in the final, he performed in two matches in the world cup. He is not going to perform in all matches, onus is on others to perform
