Nawaz still bitter about 2017 ouster

Despite his party forming the government in the Centre, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday once again expressed his discontent over his 2017 ouster, a move he believes not only undermined his party but also significantly deterred the country’s progress.

The three-time prime minister has gone into low profile after his party failed to secure a majority in last month’s general elections. However, he has recently been seen chairing Punjab government meetings and issuing directions to bureaucrats and ministers.

Mr Nawaz returned to Pakistan in October after ending a four-year self-exile in the UK. His party ran an elaborate election campaign, making him the most favourite candidate for prime minister. However, when his party failed to achieve the desired results, his brother Shehbaz Sharif was made the prime minister of a six-party coalition government.

“Had my government not been sent home in 2017, Pakistan would have progressed in leaps and bounds,” Mr Nawaz told MNAs and MPAs from the Faisalabad division at a gathering in Lahore on Tuesday. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was also present at the meeting.

Referring to former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa and PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, Nawaz Sharif said that those who ousted him and seized power did wrong to Pakistan.

“Everyone has seen what the illegal invaders have done to this country. … Although it will be a difficult year or two, the time of relief will surely come. Together, we will bring Pakistan back to its place,” Mr Nawaz said.

He said the entire country, including politicians, administration and police, had to work hard to pull the country out of difficult times.

Earlier, Mr Nawaz vowed to bring to justice those former generals and judges who toppled his government “illegally.”

His close aide and incumbent defence minister, Khawaja Asif, recently said the parliament should summon Mr Bajwa, former ISI chief Faiz Hameed and Imran Khan and question them for their alleged role in toppling the Mr Nawaz’s government in 2017 and causing economic problems for the country.

However, some PML-N lawmakers, including Hanif Abbasi of the ‘Shehbaz camp’, targeted Mr Asif for his “uncalled-for demand”.

During the meeting, the Punjab chief minister discussed development schemes in Faisalabad, stressing that laws were being introduced to ensure the safety of workers and that they would be implemented in their true spirit.

Ms Sharif said besides Metro buses, 100 speedo buses were also being brought to Faisalabad.

She said the city was also being included in the project to construct 100,000 housing units for people with low incomes.

Despite flak, Nawaz chairs another government meeting

PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif continues to chair administrative meetings alongside his daughter, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, despite criticism.

On Monday, Mr Sharif co-chaired a meeting to review issues faced by the province’s agriculture sector.

Since the Feb 8 general elections, the PML-N supreme leader has generally kept a low profile. However, in the few public appearances since, he has been seen chairing or co-chairing with his daughter administrative meetings of the Punjab government.

This has led to questions, as Mr Sharif holds no official position in either the provincial or federal government and is officially only a member of the National Assembly.

Addressing the meeting on Monday, the PML-N supreme leader said the lack of availability of quality seeds even after decades is “a matter of grave concern”.

He called for “effective steps” to save 37 million acres feet (MAF) of water from being wasted during agricultural activities in the province.

He emphasised the need to use modern irrigation methods to save water. The meeting was told that 1.7 MAF of water could be saved by paving 7,300 water courses across Punjab.

The meeting also discussed necessary measures to increase the rate of farm mechanisation from 35 to 60 per cent in Punjab.

It also discussed the disbursement of Rs150bn loan to farmers for Rabi and Kharif crops. Mr Sharif issued directions to formulate simple eligibility criteria for the farmers to secure loans.

CM Maryam also approved a research endowment fund worth Rs500m in the Ayub Agricultural Research Institute in Faisalabad. The meeting also decided to amend the Fertiliser and Pesticide Act.

Provincial ministers Marriyum Aurangzeb, Azma Zahid Bukhari and Ashiq Hussain Kirmani; PML-N leader Pervaiz Rashid and other officials attended the meeting.

Separately on Monday, CM Maryam chaired a joint meeting of the parliamentary parties of PML-N, PPP and PML-Q to discuss the strategy for Senate elections.

PPP parliamentary party leader Ali Haider Gilani assured the CM of his party’s support for PML-N candidates Bushra Butt and Anusha Rahman, who are contesting on women’s seats.

NAB gives Nawaz clean chit in Toshakhana vehicle reference

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday gave a clean chit to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana vehicle reference.

The Toshakhana is a government department that stores gifts given to rulers, parliamentarians, bureaucrats and officials by heads of other governments, states, and foreign dignitaries.

According to the case filed by NAB, then-prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, in order to extend illegal benefits to Nawaz and then-president Asif Ali Zardari, allegedly allowed the retention of vehicles gifted to them by different foreign states and dignitaries by relaxing procedures related to the submission of gifts in the Toshakhana.

The accused, “through dishonest and illegal means for their personal benefit and interest”, retained the vehicles in question “against a nominal payment of 15 per cent of the total value”, the reference stated.

In June 2020, an accountability court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the PML-N supremo, who had skipped hearings because he had begun his self-imposed exile in London. Months later, Nawaz had challenged the warrants in the Islamabad High Court but withdrew the petition days later.

On Sept 10, 2020, the ex-premier was declared a proclaimed offender in the case, with an accountability court initiating the process to confiscate his properties and directing the accountability watchdog to make his arrest through Interpol.

Ahead of his return to Pakistan in October last year, an accountability court had suspended the perpetual arrest warrants issued in 2020 for the ex-premier in the case. The PML-N supremo was granted bail days later.

In November, the NAB informed a Lahore accountability court that it had recorded Nawaz’s statement in the reference.

Last month, after he was elected as the president, Zardari’s lead counsel Farooq H. Naek told Dawn that the president, who had filed for immunity in two other graft cases, also intended to extend the claim to two other cases, including the Toshakhana reference.

Today, the NAB submitted a report to an Islamabad accountability court following its orders to have Nawaz join the investigation.

According to the report, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, the vehicle concerned was gifted to then-PM Nawaz by the government of Saudi Arabia in 1997 and was submitted in the Toshakhana.

It added that later, the car was included in the federal transport pool. In 2008, then-premier Gilani had offered Nawaz to buy the car, at which the latter did so from the federal transport pool and not the Toshakhana, the NAB report said.

“This case may attract any other offence but it has no relevancy with the benefit of Toshakhana as the subject vehicle when purchased was not part of Toshakhana, rather than the same was part of the federal transport pool,” it said.

It stated that Nawaz had not made the payment for the vehicle from a fake bank account, reiterating that the car was not a part of the Toshakhana valuables when Nawaz bought it.

Subsequently, the NAB urged the accountability court to acquit or discharge the former premier from the reference.

Nawaz Sharif to 'undergo health checkup' in China

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif will embark on a five-day “personal visit” to China on Monday, sources told Geo News.

According to sources within the party, Nawaz’s visit is of a personal nature during which he will undergo a medical checkup.

The sources revealed that the former premier would also hold meetings related to the development works of Punjab.

The former premier, the sources shared, is also scheduled to meet the owners of Chinese companies.

No more details are available regarding the visit of PML-N leaders.

This will be the first international visit of Nawaz Sharif since he came back to Pakistan in 2023 after ending four years of self-imposed exile in London.

The PML-N leader was allowed by the Lahore High Court in November 2019 to go abroad on health grounds after his medical reports revealed that he needed urgent treatment.

The LHC granted him permission for medical treatment after which he proceeded to the UK and stayed in London.

Nawaz Sharif set to lead PML-N again

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is set take the reins of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz once again, former interior minister Rana Sanaullah announced on Friday.

His declaration followed a crucial meeting of the PML-N Punjab chapter where party members and office-bearers unanimously passed a resolution to make Nawaz Sharif the president of the PML-N.

“Mian Nawaz Sharif ceased to be the president of the PML-N as the result of a controversial judicial order. All obstacles of suppression are over and he stands vindicated. The PML-N will move forward under his leadership,” Sanaullah asserted during a media interaction.

“Mian Nawaz Sharif has been requested to reassume the charge of the PML-N.”

Sanaullah said that the former prime minister had been forcibly separated from the party in 2017.

He said that while [incumbent PML-N president] Shehbaz Sharif was attempting to rescue the country from economic crises day and night, Nawaz Sharif assuming the leadership role within the party would help overcome shortcomings and weaknesses.

Sanaullah, who was flanked by party leaders Javed Latif and Khurram Dastgir, said that the PML-N was a democratic and political party, adding that “there’s no hindrance in expressing opinions within the PML-N”.

He further said that the PML-N would present its political manifesto to the people of Pakistan in next few weeks.

Sanaullah remarked that a leader's position was one of dignity and respect, and the operational leadership in the PML-N belongs to the president.

Sanaullah said that Shehbaz Sharif carried out every task with Nawaz Sharif's permission.

He mentioned that Maryam Nawaz was making efforts to win the hearts of the people of Punjab.

Nawaz steps in to address wheat crisis

As the wheat procurement crisis plagues Punjab and drives farmers to protest, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif on Friday stepped forward to address the escalating situation.

According to a well-placed party source, who is also part of the provincial cabinet, Nawaz presided over a high-level meeting which also decided to request Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to join discussions at the next session to brief the party on the issue.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also participated in the meeting where the resolution of the crisis and the formulation of the Kissan Package were decided upon.

A party source, speaking strictly on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the Punjab government was diligently addressing the wheat procurement crisis. However, he pointed out that the task was complicated by fiscal constraints and that the matter was not as simple as many in the media have led the public to believe.

The source stressed that recognising the sensitivity of the matter, the party's highest leadership has also formally intervened to weigh in on the matter and aid the government in finding a farmer-friendly solution. He assured that the party and its government will not abandon their farmers, urging people to take comfort in that assurance.

He stated that the government was crafting a ‘Kissan Package’ to relieve the financial burden on the farmers.

Elaborating further, he mentioned that this would be a multifaceted package incorporating substantial subsidies.

However, he clarified that as the chief minister would personally announce the details in the coming days, he could not divulge any specifics at this time.

He further disclosed that for the upcoming meeting, the party's supreme leader has requested PM Shehbaz Sharif to brief the party on the origins of this crisis and the government's efforts to tackle it at the central level.

When asked if Punjab was seeking assistance from the central government in this matter, the source stated that he was not aware of any such plan.

The meeting reportedly was attended by senior party leaders including former CM Punjab Hamza Shehbaz and advisor to PM Rana Sanaullah.

When questioned about the absence of an official press release regarding the meeting, the source claimed to be unaware of the reason behind keeping the meeting undisclosed. However, he did note that previous meetings chaired by Nawaz Sharif had faced criticism in the media.

When questioned about PML-N's seemingly contradictory stance of criticising PTI for its anti-establishment rhetoric and questioning the legitimacy of the 2024 elections, while simultaneously attempting to reconcile with JUI-F for making similar allegations, the source responded that PML-N cannot afford to engage in conflicts on all fronts at the same.

He stated that the party's strategy aimed to prevent the unity of all opposition forces, hence extending an olive branch to former ally JUI-F while criticising our archenemy PTI. He referred to this approach as a "divide and rule" policy.

When questioned whether this was a PML-N strategy to keep its options open, potentially enabling it to play the victim card if relations sour with Rawalpindi, the source stated that he was not in a position to answer the question.

It's pertinent to note that the PML-N government, both in Punjab and at the centre, faced severe criticism for forming committees instead of taking immediate action on pressing issues. This delay, especially regarding the concerns of provincial farmers, posed a significant risk for a party that draws much of its support from the heartland of the province.

For the Punjab government, this was an even more serious matter, as it had thus far focused all its efforts on creating positive optics for CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz.

With the media and social media scrutiny amplifying the farmers' plight, the issue had become a potential Achilles' heel, capable of shattering the carefully crafted facade around CM Punjab.

All set for Nawaz's return as PML-N president again

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif is all set to take the reins of the party as arrangements have been finalised in this regard.

The former three-time prime minister chaired a high-level meeting of the party at Model Town secretariat on Monday.

PML-N secretary general Ahsan Iqbal gave a detailed briefing regarding party’s general council meeting scheduled for May 11.

The meeting was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, law minister Azam Nazir Tarar and PML-N stalwarts Rana Sanaullah and Khawaja Saad Rafique.

According to sources, Nawaz Sharif will be elected as PML-N president once again during the general council meeting while party’s veteran Kh Saad Rafique will become the secretary general.

A resolution would be moved in the meeting to elect Nawaz Sharif as PML-N president.

Earlier, the Punjab chapter of PML-N had passed a unanimous resolution a couple of days ago requesting the elder Sharif to lead the party once again.

“Mian Nawaz Sharif ceased to be the president of the PML-N as the result of a controversial judicial order. All obstacles of suppression are over and he stands vindicated. The PML-N will move forward under his leadership,” PML-N Punjab president Rana Sanaullah had said after the passage of the resolution.

“Nawaz Sharif had been requested to reassume the charge of the PML-N,” he has said.

He added that the former prime minister had been forcibly separated from the party in 2017.

According to insiders, it was decided to separate the organisational and government offices in order to make the party more vibrant.

NAB reply sought in Toshakhana reference against Nawaz by 23rd

An accountability court on Tuesday sought reply from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on an application of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, seeking his acquittal in a reference related to Toshakhana vehicles.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana of the accountability court asked NAB’s prosecution to submit reply by May 23.

The judge was hearing the reference against President Asif Ali Zardari and supreme leader of the ruling PML-N Nawaz Sharif for allegedly obtaining luxury vehicles from Toshakhana by paying only 15 per cent of their prices.

NAB alleged that ex-PM and incumbent chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani facilitated the allotment of the vehicles to them by ‘dishonestly’ and ‘illegally’ relaxing the procedure for the acceptance and disposal of gifts vide a cabinet division memorandum of 2007.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a report submitted to the court last month virtually cleared Mr Sharif in the Toshakhana vehicle reference. The prosecution contended in the report that the vehicle concerned was gifted to then-PM Nawaz by the government of Saudi Arabia and was deposited in the Toshakhana. The report stated that the car sold out to Mr Sharif was included in the federal transport pool. In 2008, then PM Gilani had offered Nawaz to buy the car, at which the latter did so from the federal transport pool and not the Toshakhana, the NAB report said.

“This case may attract any other offence but it has no relevancy with the benefit of Toshakhana as the subject vehicle when purchased was not part of Toshakhana, rather than the same was part of the federal transport pool,” it said.

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday maintained that only PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif holds the key to easing the prevailing political tensions in the country.

Speaking to the media after a court appearance, the former minister said that the path to reconciliation could be paved only if the reins of PML-N leadership returned to Nawaz.

“The PML-N’s true politics lies with Nawaz Sharif. [Prime Minister] Shehbaz Sharif has nothing.”

Fawad described PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah’s suggestion to initiate a dialogue with the PTI as a step in the right direction.

However, he continued that one day the PTI was subjected to more restrictions and on the other, the former interior minister spoke about holding talks with the party. “I think that the ruling parties should clarify what they want,” Fawad said.

“They should clarify if they wanted to impose more restrictions on the PTI or engage in a process of dialogue with the party. The PTI will respond accordingly.”

Fawad stressed the importance of creating an environment of trust for the process of dialogue to kick off.

He pointed out that PTI senator Ejaz Chaudhary was languishing in jail for a year and his production order was not being issued.

“I am pointing out small matters that can help in building an atmosphere of trust.”

He noted that the government could provide immediate relief to incarcerated PTI leaders including Omar Cheema, Mehmoodur Rasheed, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Aliya Hamza, and Sanam Javed.

Fawad claimed that PTI founding chairman Imran Khan would not strike any deal for his release from jail.

He added that only the people could compel the government to set him free.

“The government should take some steps to restore the atmosphere of trust.”

The former federal minister maintained that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had noted in it’s report that there was political instability in Pakistan.

“It’s the government’s responsibility to create an environment where things can move forward.”

Describing the PTI as a major party, he conceded that it was “too loud”.

Fawad said it was necessary to stand by the PTI founding chairman as if lost the battle, it would mean a defeat for the nation.

Earlier, the former minister denied his involvement in two cases related to last year’s May 9 violence.

He was produced before a district court in Lahore.

He was interrogated by police in a case linked to the attack on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s residence in Lahore.

Fawad also submitted his statement in the case pertaining to the attack on the PML-N secretariat also in the same city.

The former minister told the interrogators that he was neither directly linked to the attack on the premier’s residence in Lahore, nor had he incited anyone to carry it out.

He also denied the accusation that he was involved in the attack on the PML-N secretariat. The police told the court that they had rounded up 49 people in both cases.

Nawaz begins move to reclaim PML-N leadership

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has taken the first step to reclaim the leadership of the ruling party—the PML-N—from his younger brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In the initial phase, he will be elected as the party’s acting president at the PML-N’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting convened today (Saturday) under Article 15 of its constitution at the party’s Model Town Secretariat.

In the meeting, senior party members will present a resolution nominating Nawaz Sharif as the acting president of the party. The CWC members are expected to approve this nomination.

According to the agenda of the meeting unveiled on Friday, the CWC will also announce the convening of the party’s General Council for the election of its president, a post currently held by Shehbaz. The CWC will also appoint an election commissioner for the election of the new president.

Both Shehbaz and Nawaz will address the meeting participants. The party’s key decision-making body will also present resolutions against Israeli atrocities in Gaza and Kashmir’s illegal occupation by India.

Nawaz, who served as the country’s prime minister thrice, was ousted from power in July 2017 after the Supreme Court disqualified him for life in the Panama Papers case.

The SC had later ruled that a disqualified person could not lead a political party, a decision that forced him to also relinquish the position of party president.

However, after changes in the country’s election law which set the duration of disqualification at five years, Nawaz became eligible both to contest polls and head a political party.

The PML-N’s CWC is one of its highest decision-making bodies. It plays a crucial role in strategic planning, policy formulation, and major decision-making processes.

The PML-N’s General Council serves as a larger representative body within the party. It includes members from various regions and sectors, ensuring broad representation.

The General Council is responsible for electing the party president and other key office bearers. It provides a platform for discussing the party’s direction, policies, and electoral strategies.

Nawaz Sharif's expected re-election as the party president is anticipated to bring about a shift in the party's dynamics and strategies.

Nawaz wants ex-judges in dock for his ouster

As judges push back against alleged interference in judicial affairs by the military establishment, ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday demanded action against a trio of retired Supreme Court judges who had ousted him from office ahead of the 2018 elections.

The accountability of those who allegedly played a role in his ouster has been one of the persistent demands of the PML-N supreme leader, but this time he did not demand action against former generals, Qamar Javed Bajwa and Faiz Hameed.

In September last year before his return to Pakistan from London where he had been in a self-imposed exile, it was reported that PML-N would not demand the accountability of the former army chief and ex-spymaster in a bid to remain on good terms with the establishment.

Addressing a party general council meeting in the provincial capital, the elder Sharif said he would continue to raise the issue of his disqualification by the Supreme Court.

“Nowhere in the world, do judges send a prime minister or a president home. Under what authority they [judges] had removed me from the party president’s office,” he asked, referring to a court order that barred him from remaining the PML-N president in light of his disqualification under Article 62 and 63.

According to the PML-N leader, “How come three persons can disqualify a prime minister for not taking a salary from his son.” “I will keep on asking this question,” the ex-PM said, seeking an independent probe into his ouster in 2017.

Hitting out at three former judges — former chief justice Saqib Nisar, Ijazul Ahsan and Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi — the PML-N leader sought action, claiming he had an audio clip of ex-CJP Nisar in which he was purportedly saying “we have to oust Nawaz to bring in Imran Khan as the premier”.

He even called for initiating a NAB case against Justice Naqvi for making “illegal” assets. “A case should be lodged against Justice Mazahar Naqvi for making huge assets as well as other judges involved in my ouster,” he said.

Nation’s silence on ouster

Nawaz Sharif, who is going to be re-elected as the PML-N president on May 28 after six years, also expressed his dissatisfaction with the nation for not giving his party enough seats in the Feb 8 polls and remaining silent on his ouster as the PM.

He expressed his disappointment with the nation for remaining silent after his ouster in 2017. “I want to lodge a complaint with the nation as to why it stood silent when I was illegally removed from the office of the prime minister. I want an answer from the nation,” he complained.

During the speech, he also talked about how former ISI chief Zaheerul Islam went to London in 2014 and made a plan with cleric Dr Tahirul Qadri regarding a sit-in in Islamabad against his government.

He said he had gone to Imran Khan at his residence in Banigala, where the PTI leader agreed to go along with him but later he joined the “conspirators” against the PML-N government.

The three-time premier has been keeping a low profile after his party failed to secure a majority in the general elections held on Feb 8 this year. However, he has recently been seen chairing Punjab government meetings and issuing directions to bureaucrats and ministers.

Acting president

In the meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif was made an acting president of PML-N for over a week, till May 28. The younger Sharif resigned last week to pave the way for his brother to become the party chief, again. Since the election for the coveted post on May 28, he has been given the charge, again, to look after the ruling party till his brother assumes the charge.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his elder brother had kept the party alive.

He said a great injustice was done to separate Nawaz from the PML-N presidency, adding that the “conspiracy” against the Nawaz government had landed Pakistan into economic trouble.

The premier said he had requested the elder Sharif to become prime minister after Feb 8 polls, but he asked him to take this responsibility.

In theory NS is in power today through his brother. He has the CJP in his pocket, a guy who banned the PTI and kept IK in jail, he has the COAS that he appointed, even though he had retired. So NS stop talking crap and if you are brave enough bring cases and get these people locked up if they are alive. While you are talking about judges maybe you can also talk about Justice Malik lol

Nawaz Sharif likely to elect unopposed in PML-N President election

The five-member election commission of the party being headed by Rana Sanaullah. Iqbal Jhagra, Ishrat Ashraf, Jamal Shah Kakar and Khealdas Kohistani are other members of the commission.

Candidates can get nomination papers upto 5:00 in the evening, a party spokesperson said. “The papers could be submitted from 10:00am to 12;00 noon tomorrow,” spokesman said.

“Scrutiny of the papers will be held between 1:00 to 2:00pm”.

“The central general council of the party will elect new president at 4:00pm tomorrow,” election commission announced.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif could likely to return unopposed as the PML-N president.

According to the agenda of the PML-N general council session, it will elect the party’s president and approve amendments in the party’s constitution.

Acting president of the party Shehbaz Sharif and newly elected president will address the session.

The general council will also approve resolutions over Kashmir, Palestine and other matters during the session.

The PML-N had earlier announced to hold the party’s general council meeting for the president’s election on May 11, but later decided to hold the session on the occasion Youm-e-Takbeer on May 28, the day marking completion of 26 years since Pakistan’s nuclear tests on May 28th, 1998.

Nawaz Sharif elected PML-N president after six-year hiatus

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was elected on Tuesday as president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Aaj News reported.

It may be noted Nawaz was removed as the party president in 2018 after a Supreme Court bench headed by then-chief justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar ruled that an individual disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution could not serve as head of a political party.

Meanwhile, 11 individuals obtained nomination papers for the election of the PML-N president, including Bashir Memon, Anwar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, Ishaq Dar, Raja Muhammad Farooq, Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman and Shah Ghulam Qadir.

Nawaz was elected in the meeting of the PML-N general council. Nawaz will now take over the party presidency from his younger brother Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who had earlier resigned saying that “time has come” for his brother to “resume his rightful place” as the party president.

A guy that can't win his own seat claims to be national leader and this after having his opponents banned from contesting the elections. The guy is total embarrassment, and his chosen heir goes around doing Tik Tok videos dressed up as Doctor one day, a Police woman the next and on which the public can't criticise or they are locked up.

Qazi took the symbol of the PTI because apparently Barrister Gohar was elected unopposed. What elections took place for this🤣

PML-N leaders ‘active’ to make Nawaz Sharif prime minister again

Insiders told ARY News that some key leaders of PML-N have initiated a campaign to make Nawaz the prime minister, a position he has held three times before.

Recently, some federal ministers of the PML-N had expressed their desire to see the party president as Prime Minister again during a gathering in Islamabad, which some foreign dignitaries also attended.

On that occasion, a federal minister stated, “We want Nawaz Sharif to become Prime Minister again to improve the country’s situation.”

However, sources also revealed that some key figures in the PML-N are also against the proposed idea, while Nawaz himself has not yet expressed his opinion on the matter.

It is pertinent to mention here that Nawaz Sharif reclaimed his role as the president of the PML-N, after staying on the sidelines for almost six years.

After his ouster, his brother Shehbaz Sharif became the party president, but resigned earlier this month to pave the way for his brother to reclaim the coveted slot, which he had been holding following a Supreme Court ruling in 2017.

At the session of the general council in Lahore, PML-N election commissioner Rana Sanaullah said Nawaz Sharif was nominated for the party president slot. Sanaullah sought approval from the members of the general council, who stood on their seats to endorse the nomination, followed by pro-Nawaz sloganeering.

A resolution was also presented in the meeting demanding action against those involved in toppling the Nawaz government in 2017.

Another launch for the guy that stole his seat with a form 47. He got humiliated in both seats.

Nawaz asserts authority as PML-N president

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has become active as soon as he assumed the post of the party president, instructing his younger brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to call a consultative meeting in connection with the federal budget for the next financial year to give his input.

Party insiders said the meeting, jointly presided over by the Sharif brothers, would be held at their residence in Jati Umra area of Raiwind near Lahore on Thursday (today).

They added that the huddle would be attended by federal ministers and senior leaders of the party.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the party president’s daughter, and Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, who also holds the portfolio of the foreign ministry, are likely to attend the meeting too.

The PML-N insiders said during the meeting, suggestions would be taken from the participants for measures to provide maximum relief to the inflation-hit people at the federal and provincial levels.

They continued that the federal ministers participating in the meeting had been instructed to bring suggestions from their respective departments for steps to provide possible relief to the people.

The party leaders attending the huddle have been told to prepare their own proposals for possible relief through public consultation.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik and Energy Minister Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari are expected to participate in the meeting.

Besides, other federal ministers who are likely to attend the meeting include Rana Tanveer, Jam Kamal, and Ahad Cheema.

The party insiders said Nawaz would also issue instructions during the meeting based on his extensive political and administrative experience.

They added that he was likely to instruct his daughter to seek suggestions from her provincial government for measures to provide maximum relief to the people of Punjab.

PML-N behind every major project in Pakistan: Nawaz Sharif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked the nation to compare those who served the country with those who ruined it, saying that the PML-N is behind every major project in the country.

“I have served Pakistan day and night. Every major project in Pakistan has PML-N behind it. Those who mocked the metro bus project as a ‘jungle bus embezzled billions in Peshawar. The inquiry into the Peshawar metro bus corruption has not been made public,” said Nawaz Sharif while speaking with the members of the parliamentary party in the Senate in Murree on Saturday.

He questioned, “Why was a democratic government overthrown? I read everything while in jail. Pervez Musharraf ousted the government. Pervez Musharraf is no longer in this world, so what complaints can we have now? We must call right ‘right’ and wrong ‘wrong’,”.

The PML-N president highlighted the soaring inflation and urged the nation to compare who served the country and who devastated it.

He said, “The poor in Pakistan have been made to suffer. I was distributing electricity to every home when I was ousted. Even the IMF said Pakistan might not need our help anymore,”.

Praising Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Nawaz Sharif said, “Shahid Khaqan is an excellent person. He bravely endured jail and supported me,”.

He added, “If I hadn’t been removed from power, the country would have been progressing. Shehbaz Sharif is working diligently, and I commend him for it. You blame us, but it is you who have damaged democracy. I am not someone who holds grudges or seeks revenge,”.

Nawaz Sharif criticized the IMF conditions, saying that “If IMF conditions are accepted, how these will not be difficult for the poor? I am not someone who relies on the IMF. Maryam Nawaz is reaching everywhere and has reduced the price of bread which is commendable,”.

Targeting Imran Khan, he said, “I never went to the PTI founder for help, nor did I go to Bani Gala to seek votes. When we were in jail, you removed the ACs. Now you are in jail, and I haven’t even thought about the air conditioners. You wrote letters to the IMF,”.

Nawaz Sharif further stated, “For the promotion of democracy, Benazir Bhutto and I signed the Charter of Democracy,”.

A crook that made deals with the Generals that created him. But ultimately total humiliation when he couldn't even win his own seat in Manshera and Lahore, where Dr Yasmin Rashid smashed him and is still locked up for beating this cruel and hideous man.

Joke of the century.

This guy is not making any sense. Age may have caught up to him. He should just give it up and retire. Don't worry, you have next-generation present in Pakistani Politics who can loot this country.

Criticiszing IMF but his brother is going to the same IMF every now and then for more money...LOL

No grudge against anyone, says Nawaz

PML-N President Nawaz Sharif on Saturday claimed he was not considering taking revenge on anyone, pointing out that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was the main hurdle in political reconciliation and harmony across the country.

While presiding over a second parliamentary party meeting after regaining party office, the PML-N president also lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for what he called sharp reduction in the prices of essential items.

He said he had no political vengeance and grudge against anyone, even those who had attempted to keep him out of power in the past. “I am not the person who takes political revenge,” Nawaz Sharif said.

He said he wished that gas and electricity tariff would also come down. “Pakistan would soon come out of crises,” he said, adding that such policies should be framed that bring down the prices of electricity and gas.

Although he claimed he had no political grudge, the PML-N chief lashed out at jailed PTI founder Imran Khan for ‘wrong’ policies and political victimisation.

“He (Imran) had once said that he will drag Nawaz Sharif in streets and I have not asked for removing air conditioner from his room in the jail. “I wish that he (Imran) will have two ACs in his room. I don’t mind he has been given undue facilities in the jail,” he added.

He said a number of development projects executed by the PTI regime failed or bore humiliation for the party due to corruption and faulty planning. In this connection, Nawaz gave an example of BRT Peshawar (bus transport system) and called it jangla bus. “The nation must know that who had ruined the country and who had put it on the path of development.”

“No other government, but PML-N has the credit for bringing development and prosperity in the country,” he added.

Since he did not believe in political vengeance, he and ex-premier Benazir Bhutto had signed the Charter of Democracy, the PML-N president added.

Street riots only hurt democracy: Nawaz

“Rioting on the roads has always damaged the Constitution and democracy,” the three-time former premier told Senate Deputy Chairman Syedal Khan Nasir and Senator Irfan Siddiqui, who called on him in Murree.

During the meeting, the Senate deputy chairman congratulated Nawaz on being elected as the PML-N president.

The former premier also congratulated the Senate deputy chairman on assuming his office and expressed the hope that he would play an effective role in the upper house of parliament for the strengthening of the federation, national unity and promotion of democracy.

On the occasion, the PML-N president said parliament should be strengthened instead of “pointless” protests on the streets for the protection of the Constitution and the upholding of the law, because that was the real forum for achieving this purpose.

A day earlier, the PML-N president maintained that he had never harboured any thoughts of seeking revenge against incarcerated PTI founding chairman Imran Khan.

“I am not the person who takes political revenge,” Nawaz said while chairing a parliamentary party meeting in Murree.

He continued that as he did not believe in political revenge, he and former premier Benazir Bhutto had signed the Charter of Democracy.

However, the PML-N president lashed out at the PTI founding chairman for ‘wrong’ policies and political victimisation.

He also described Imran as the main obstacle in political reconciliation and harmony across the country.

The PML-N president instructed the party senators to actively highlight public issues in the upper house of parliament.

Nawaz praised the efforts of his younger brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and daughter, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, for the “sharp decline” in the prices of essential items.

“Pakistan would soon come out of its crises,” he added.

The PML-N chief said the government should frame policies, which would bring down the prices of electricity and gas.

Welcoming former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s sister, Saadia Abbasi, to the meeting, Sharif recalled: “I remember when Shahid Khaqan and I were in jail, Saadia tirelessly served us day and night. She faced very difficult times. We endured so much that my daughter was arrested before my eyes. They could have arrested Maryam outside, but their aim was to break me.”

Nawaz highlighted his long-standing relationship with Shahid Khaqan, whom he described as a “steadfast companion” during difficult times.

The PML-N president also stressed the need to strengthen the party.

He maintained that no other party’s government had brought as much development and prosperity in the country as that of the PML-N.

Maybe he doesn't want to intervene in government affairs, so that Shehbaz fails and then he can step in

Nawaz Sharif decides not to attend Budget 2024-25 session

Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Nawaz Sharif has decided to skip National Assembly’s Budget 2024-25 session.

Nawaz Sharif sought leave from the NA budget session from the assembly secretariat. The plea was approved by the assembly secretariat.

It is to be noted that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif also skipped the NA session when Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the Budget 2024-25.

Currently, the lower and upper houses of the Parliament are discussing the Budget 2024-25.

Earlier it emerged that, after the former prime minister reclaimed his role as PML-N president, some old guards of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz have started making efforts to bring him back as prime minister of Pakistan.

Nawaz calls for unity to address challenges

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on Saturday underscored the need of national unity in addressing the multifaceted challenges facing Pakistan.

He was talking to Senator Irfan Siddiqui, parliamentary party leader in the Senate.

Nawaz Sharif expressed grave concern over elements working to destabilise the country and tarnish its image.

He argued that these forces have no genuine stake in democracy or the people’s welfare, viewing Pakistan’s struggles as their political gains, says a press release.

It said that reflecting on the country’s past achievements, Nawaz Sharif noted that issues like inflation, load-shedding and terrorism, once successfully tackled, have resurfaced.

He assured the nation that with earnest and diligent leadership, the issues can be overcome.

Sharif recalled that seven years ago Pakistan had successfully controlled inflation, eliminated load-shedding, and bid farewell to IMF bailouts. However, he lamented the significant setbacks since 2018, which have led to severe difficulties across various sectors. These setbacks, he noted, will take considerable time to rectify.

Emphasizing the crucial role of security, Sharif advocated for unwavering support to the armed forces and security agencies in their anti-terrorism endeavors. He highlighted the intrinsic link between law and order, investment, and national prosperity, urging Parliament to play an active role in these efforts.

During the meeting, Senator Irfan Siddiqui presented a comprehensive report on the parliamentary party’s performance in the Senate, reaffirming the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s commitment to addressing the nation’s pressing issues and striving for a stable and prosperous future.

'Power bills unpayable': Nawaz says no good being done to country

Ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Saturday directed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led administration to take all-out measures to provide relief to the inflation-hit masses, saying it has become "impossible" for everyone to pay electricity bills.

Criticising the decisions of the previous rulers, he said that the country "is not being treated well which was achieving development goals and got rid of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)".

"Justice is offered to a man roaming in the street," said Nawaz who stepped down as prime minister in 2017 after the Supreme Court disqualified him for not declaring a receivable salary.

"What is the need [of such decisions] which increased sufferings of this country," the former premier questioned, lamenting that the country was successfully achieving the milestones of development and prosperity before his ouster from power.

He made the statement while chairing a high-level session alongside Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to review matters related to the CM Solar Panel Scheme 2024 in Lahore today.

"Electricity bills become a trouble for everyone [...] not only for poor people but for everyone," he added. The PML-N president claimed that his government "eliminated loadshedding and controlled electricity rates".

He also took credit for maintaining a low inflation rate and a stable currency, as well as "getting rid of the IMF" programme but all positive efforts went in vain after the change of regime in 2018. "All of us know well, who bring the IMF to this country, again."

"The decision-makers will have to think now and care about our people," he insisted.

He issued directives to the government to take all possible steps to provide relief to the masses.

Nawaz's statement came after cash-strapped Pakistan and the global lender reached a three-year, $7 billion bailout programme "endorsed by the federal and provincial governments", the Washington-based institution announced last week.

Regarding the new loan, PM Shehbaz, in his address to the nation, pledged that the new bailout package with the global lender will be the last in the country’s history.

The new programme, which needs to be validated by the IMF's Executive Board, should enable Pakistan to "cement macroeconomic stability and create conditions for stronger, more inclusive and resilient growth," according to a statement issued by the global lender.

Tough measures in line with the IMF conditions such as raising tax on agricultural incomes and lifting electricity prices have prompted concerns about poor and middle-class Pakistanis grappling with rising inflation and the prospect of higher taxes.

Solar panel scheme

In the same session, Punjab Secretary Energy Dr Naeem Rauf gave a detailed briefing on the programme and said that a test run of the pilot project had been started in different locations in which the performance of the solar panel systems will be observed.

He added that the scheme will be launched from August 14 after completing the test run of the pilot project.

While detailing the scheme, Rauf said that the eligibility of citizens for acquiring solar panels will be ascertained through their power bill reference number and computerised national identity card (CNICs) submitted at 8800.

"District administration and power distribution companies (Discos) will verify credentials of the applicants who are declared successful in the balloting," he added.

Subsequently, specific bar and QR codes will be printed on solar panels and systems to stop their sales in the markets, said Rauf.

He further briefed that those power consumers will be ineligible for the scheme who were involved in electricity theft, tampered electricity metres and electricity defaulters.

CM Maryam ordered the authorities concerned to introduce more relaxations in the solar panel scheme and complete work for the early launching of the renewable energy programme.

The chief minister said that flour and electricity rates have badly affected the financial conditions of the masses and vowed to take all-out measures to provide relief to the citizens.

She announced that the scope of the solar panel scheme will be expanded in phases across the province. She added that Punjab was the only province which took the lead by presenting Rs5.4 trillion with a surplus of Rs625 billion as per the IMF condition.

Punjab CM had signed an order in April to provide one-kilowatt solar power systems to 50,000 households in the province free of charge to ease the inflation-hit lives of low-income households facing over-bloated power bills.

Nawaz Sharif secured NA-130 seat through historic ‘rigging’: PATTAN

Lahore’s NA-130 constituency, where PML-N president Nawaz Sharif defeated PTI’s Yasmin Rashid in general elections 2024, is likely to have experienced the ‘worst form of rigging’ in the electoral history of Punjab, a civil society organisation PATTAN said on Wednesday.

“The National Assembly constituency NA-130 of Lahore is likely to have experienced the worst form of rigging ever happened in the electoral history of Punjab since 2002 general elections as on many Form-45s the turnout for NA130 was between 90 per cent and 102pc, while for provincial assembly seats about 40pc,” the PATTAN said in a report.

The organisation claimed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seemingly increased Nawaz Sharif’s share in polled votes on Forms-45s which compelled the election officials to increase the overall turnout too for the same polling stations, and eventually that forced them to prepare the fake Form-47.

“However, this manipulation created phenomenal discrepancies on the election result forms not only within NA-130 but also with provincial seats, which exposed the scale of rigging,” the report stated.

Pattan’s audit revealed huge variance in shared polling stations (SPSs) established for NA-130 and PP -170, PP-173 and PP-174 – an extremely “peculiar and rare occurrence”.

For instance, on 82 Form-45s, on average the turnout for NA-130 was as high as 86pc, while in the same polling stations the average turnout for provincial seats was just 41pc – a staggering gap of 45pc must have caused discomfort.

“Similar gap could be seen in 36 other shared polling stations, where turnout was between 90pc and 99pc, but for provincial seats it was less than 40pc. On three Form-45s the turnout for NA was as high as 100pc or more, while for provincial assembly it was less than 50pc”, the report said.

It added overall, on 69 Form-45s of NA-130 the turnout was between 70pc and plus 100pc, Out of 69 on 60 polling stations turnout was between 80pc and 99pc – a rare phenomenon.

The turnout according to ECP Form-47 for NA-130 was 52.45%, while for PP-170; PP-173 and PP-174, it was just 40.15%, 40.69% and 38.24% respectively. “It means overall there were about 12% of voters who had cast ballot for NA but did not polled for PP seats at all, which looks suspicious,” it claimed.

Nawaz Sharif was shown winner on 166 or 44pc Form-45s, while Dr Yasmin Rashid was declared winner on 56pc or 208 forms. However, there appears a reverse relationship between share in polled votes and lead in polling stations.

In brief, the PATTAN said, three unprecedented and peculiar trends emerge from the audit of the ECP result forms:

  1. Exceptionally high turnout on almost one-fifth Form-45s
  2. Massive gap in turnout between national and provincial seats in the shared polling stations
  3. Turnout gap between Form-47 and 45s.
“These contradictory and dubious trends would naturally create suspicion about the credibility of the elections, and seriously damage trust of public in electoral structures and democratic institutions,” it said.

The organisation called for a comprehensive investigation in a transparent manner as soon as possible as the country according to it can’t afford perpetuation of on-going political uncertainty.

The duffer was humiliated. All his life he relied on establishment to win elections and finally the evidence is in black and white. From the 1990 Bin Laden money, to the late 90s where again he used the agencies to win, to 2013, where he couldn't even open 4 constituencies( he knew that this would open up a can of worms) after the Sethi, rigged the elections for him, to 2018 where establishment gave them 20 extra seats to stop IK having his majority. And to the biggest humiliation ever with only 17 seats in 2024. REMEMBER IK in jail, with no party or symbol and PTI not allowed to campaign. The man is failure who couldn't even beat a cancer suffering lady who is locked up. He even had the audacity to claim victory with 17 seats.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President MNA Nawaz Sharif is reportedly planning a trip to London next month, according to party sources.

The sources said that Nawaz is expected to fly out of Pakistan on September 11, following the death anniversary of his late wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

Sources within the party indicate that the former prime minister's trip is primarily for medical reasons. He is scheduled to undergo a comprehensive medical examination by his doctors in London. After his check-up, Nawaz Sharif is expected to spend time with his sons, who reside in the UK.

The trip is likely to last between two and three weeks, although party insiders suggest that Nawaz's departure to London may be influenced by the prevailing political conditions in Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif, who returned to Pakistan on October 21 last year after a prolonged stay abroad, has remained a central figure in the country's political landscape. His potential departure to London comes at a critical time, with the nation's political environment in flux.

The former PM had returned to Pakistan on a chartered flight from Dubai, marking the end of his four-year self-imposed exile in London. His return was seen as an effort to galvanize support ahead of the parliamentary elections held in February.

Sharif had been considered a fugitive after failing to appear in court in 2019, which resulted in a 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges. At the time, the then-prime minister Imran Khan permitted Sharif to travel abroad for medical treatment following complaints of chest pains.

However, Sharif extended his stay in London, citing his doctors' advice against returning to Pakistan.

Nawaz set to launch drive to ‘counter Imran’s popularity’

In the wake of turmoil currently sweeping the country’s political landscape, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has decided to become politically active, primarily to “counter the popularity of jailed PTI supremo Imran Khan”, Dawn learnt on Tuesday.

“It has been decided that at first, the elder Sharif will visit different parts of the country to reactivate the party,” a minister told Dawn.

Mr Sharif, who has been spending most of his time in the Murree hill station, would first go to Balochistan and then to Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He would also hold meetings in this regard in Punjab.

“In last month’s meeting of PML-N’s senior leadership in Lahore, a plan to reorganise and reactivate the party at the grassroots level was presented. In light of that, Mr Sharif will personally oversee the process and give importance to loyal party workers and leaders on vacant party offices,” the minister said. In the second phase, Mr Sharif would hold rallies across the country.

There has been an impression in the party and the media that the former premier’s role has been reduced to a ceremonial level in the PML-N following the formation of Shehbaz Sharif’s government in the Centre. Some senior party leaders, including Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, have reportedly requested him to become active in party affairs.

“Besides, the current political situation also demands that Nawaz Sharif should be seen politically active to counter the popularity of incarcerated PTI supremo Imran Khan,” a party insider told Dawn.

He said Nawaz Sharif was concerned about the “limited space” politicians had in the current scenario and wanted to play his role to curb the influence of non-democratic forces.

Recently, Mr Sharif directed the governments of his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif in the Centre and daughter Maryam Nawaz in Punjab to take the party on board in decision-making on important issues.

“In a party meeting, Nawaz Sharif sought suggestions to enhance the party’s role in the government affairs. He also wants the government to take important administrative decisions in consultation with the party,” PML-N Punjab President and PM’s adviser Rana Sanaullah previously told Dawn after a recent party meeting.

“There has been an impression that the government has bureaucratic footprints in its decision-making, which have to be replaced with political ones,” Mr Sanaullah added.

I still have Saqib Nisar’s audio leak: Nawaz Sharif

Addressing the cheque distribution ceremony of ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ programme, Nawaz Sharif said that in the audio leaks, Saqib Nisar can be heard saying ‘We will keep Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in jail and bring Imran Khan to power’

“I still have the audio recording of Saqib Nisar,” he added. Nawaz Sharif said that after that call, the ‘London plan’ was devised and consequently the sit-ins were held.

The PML-N president said if democratic governments in Pakistan were allowed to function effectively, there would be no homeless people today.

“Why was the person who worked day and night for Pakistan’s development was treated this way,” Nawaz Sharif asked while referring to his ouster as the prime minster in 2017.

Criticising the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over its performance from 2018 to 2022, asking the whereabouts of the five million homes and 10 million jobs promised by then Prime Minster Imran Khan. “What has been done for the welfare of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Nawaz Sharif asked.

The PML-N president also took a jibe at Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur over his efforts to ‘infiltrate’ Punjab, terming it an intention to provoke conflict between provinces.

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif said that he was ousted from the Prime Minister’s Office in 2017 through a ‘conspiracy’.

Nawaz Sharif said a ‘conspiracy’ against his government was hatched in London, adding that his political opponents, who had returned from London, staged a sit-in.

He said that during the sit-in, a message was sent to him in which he was asked to resign or be ready for dire consequences. “I told them to do whatever they want, but Nawaz Sharif will never resign,” the PML-N president said.

Referring to the May 9 riots, he said that we are the ones who stand with May 28th (Pakistan’s nuclear tests day), not with May 9th.

Is that the fake one that they released and got humiliated for. Just imagine for one second what they would have done with a real tape that proved their allegations. All we know is that crooked witch said she had porn vids of the judges.

Is he a national leader calling the masses as sheep & goats, the person with an I.q to only judge spices in Beef Potato and Minced Meat Breads.

A good thing in Pakistani politics, Nawaz Sharif is irrelevant and not an option anymore

Nawaz Sharif calls for renewed Pak-India relations, cricket ties in meeting with Indian journalists

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif met with a delegation of Indian journalists covering the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference, where he shared his thoughts on the restoration of Pakistan-India relations and cricketing ties.

The meeting took place in Lahore, with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also in attendance.

During the discussion, Nawaz expressed optimism about the potential for the SCO conference to serve as a starting point for improved relations between the two neighbours.

"If Pakistan-India relations improve, many things will get better," he stated. He further emphasised the importance of cricket diplomacy, suggesting that India’s cricket team should participate in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

"Ask the Indian cricket team, and they would say they want to come to Pakistan and play," he remarked.

Nawaz also mentioned that it would have been positive if India’s prime minister had personally attended the SCO conference.

Reflecting on the tense history between the two nations, he added, "The past has been bitter, let's see what happens in the future."

Maryam expressed a desire to visit India, stating, "I want to visit Indian Punjab to see the differences. Both sides have much to learn from each other."
