Fast bowler Naseem Shah has been ruled out of Gloucestershire’s remaining County Championship games in April and May after picking up an injury to his shoulder.

The 19-year-old Pakistan international sustained the injury during the opening weekend of the season at Northants and will therefore be unavailable for selection for Glos until the start of the T20 Vitality Blast campaign.

Following discussions between the medical teams of both Gloucestershire and the Pakistan Cricket Board, it has been decided that a period of workload management is in Naseem’s best interest to allow him to get back to full fitness as quickly and safely as possible.

The reduction in first-team involvement for Shah, following a busy period of PSL and Test match appearances during the winter, prior to joining Gloucestershire, will allow him to undergo a sustained period of rest and recovery.

Naseem will undergo this process of rehabilitation in Bristol with the Gloucestershire medical team and will return to first-team action in time for the T20 Vitality Blast campaign.

This was quite anticlimactic. Teenagers and early adolescents are more likely to suffer from injuries especially fast bowlers.
 
An accident waiting to happen I'm afraid.

His game time needs to be managed properly as at the moment there just seems to be no planning at all, which isn't helping the lad.
 
Disappointing that he broke down without even completing one game. Hope the injury is not too serious.
 
He keeps getting injured and yet everyone here wanted him to be play in ODI's & T20's.

His workload clearly needs to be managed.
 
Him getting injured is a shame, playing a couple County matches would've helped his overall game but alas.
 
Spoke with him earlier and he said he's going to stay in UK and work with the Gloucestershire medical staff.

According to Naseem the injury isn't too bad and he could actually have played in the upcoming matches if they really needed him to. However Gloucestershire suggested he save himself for the T20 Blast matches instead.
 
Mohammad Amir to replace Naseem Shah at Gloucestershire: Reports

Left arm quick Mohammad Amir is likely to replace Naseem Shah at Gloucestershire, various media reports have stated.

Naseem Shah was ruled out of the County Championship matches after he picked up a shoulder injury and will be available for the T20 Blast matches, a press release from the club stated.

Shah will stay in Bristol and undergo rehab with the Gloucestershire medical panel.

Gloucestershire have now reportedly decided to bolster their pace ranks by bringing in Mohammad Amir. An official press release from the club is awaited though.

Amir, 30, had announced his retirement from international cricket in December 2020 after having a fallout with the Pakistan team management.

Amir’s countryman Naseem Shah is continuing with his recovery from a shoulder problem and is due to play in Gloucestershire’s Second XIs before making a return to first-team cricket during the T20 Vitality Blast Campaign.

Decent returns for Naseem Shah as he ends up with 2/27
 
The first ball was a wide which went for 5 runs(wide + four).He bowled well at good pace.The wicket keeper was standing a long way.The commentators said Shah was rapid.They said Rauf and Shah are the quickest bowlers they have seen this season.

Gloucestershire will make the trip to South London to take on Surrey in their third Vitality Blast fixture of the season on Tuesday evening.

The match at The Oval tomorrow night comes just a few days after Gloucestershire secured a much-needed and deserved first win of the season on Friday evening. The Shire beat Sussex Sharks by 41 runs under the floodlights at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol, a match that saw James Bracey score a career best T20 innings with 70 runs from 45 balls.

David Payne also starred for Glos with bowling figures of 3-22, as did Paul van Meekeren and Naseem Shah who took a brace of wickets each. The comfortable victory means Gloucestershire sit third in the table in the Vitality Blast South Group ahead of the match against fourth-placed Surrey. The hosts have only played one match in the Blast so far, compared to Gloucestershire’s two, an away trip to Glamorgan that saw Surrey claim a four-wicket victory.

Spear-headed by the likes of captain Chris Jordan, Jason Roy and Sam Curran, Surrey will be looking to make it two wins from two but will face tough competition from Gloucestershire’s in-form bowling attack.

Ollie Pope scored the bulk of the runs for Surrey against Glamorgan with 62 of his side’s 174-run total. Meanwhile Reece Topley, Sam Curran, Dan Worrall, Jamie Overton and Sunil Narine took one wicket each.

24-year-old Pope will be unavailable to play against Gloucestershire, however, due to his call-up to the England Test squad.

Two changes to the side that lost away at Surrey last night... Zak Chappell and Josh Shaw are in to replace Paul van Meekeren and Naseem Shah, who have both been rested.
 
These games come thick and fast, understandable that players are being rested.
 
So should be in the XI tonight but expecting better from him.
 
Naseem Shah returns home to Pakistan due to family emergency

Naseem Shah is to return home to Pakistan today (Monday 6 June) due to a family emergency.

Naseem’s father has taken ill and therefore Gloucestershire has allowed him to return home to spend as much time as he needs with his family during what is a difficult time for them.

We hope to have Naseem back with the first-team squad as soon as possible, and everyone at Gloucestershire Cricket sends Naseem and his family their best wishes.

Steve Snell, Performance Director at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “We thoroughly support Naseem’s decision to return home to see his father. Of course we will miss him on the field, but Naseem’s wellbeing and the health of his loved ones far outweigh any cricketing priorities.

“We have loved having Naseem with us as part of the Gloucestershire family and we are looking forward to welcoming him back to us as soon as possible.

I hope his father recovers well. The boy has already had to deal with the loss of his mother quite early in his life.

Wonder if his parents are old? Lost his mum not long ago and now his father is unwell. I make dua his father recovers , must be really hard on this young man.
 
Naseem has told PakPassion.net that his father is feeling better now and he hopes to be back in UK as soon as possible to re-join Gloucestershire in their T20 Blast campaign.
 
No return to Gloucestershire for Naseem Shah

Naseem Shah will not be returning to Gloucestershire this season. The Pakistan pace bowler recently returned home to spend time with his family after his father was sadly taken ill. The Club is delighted to hear that Naseem’s father is feeling better, but a hastily arranged Pakistan Cricket Board training camp means that Naseem cannot now return to the Seat Unique Stadium.

Steve Snell, Performance Director at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: "It has been great to have Naseem as part of the Gloucestershire environment. He has shown incredible dedication and work ethic, despite some small issues meaning he couldn’t take the field as much as he and we would have liked, but nonetheless it has been brilliant to have him with us and hopefully he has enjoyed his time here.

It has been great to see him develop as a young man - his English has improved immensely, which is something he should be very proud of. He is a very popular member of the squad, and we very much hope to see him back playing in Bristol in the years to come."
