[VIDEOS] Pakistan [294/9] beat Zimbabwe [256] by 38 runs in the Under-19 World Cup

Why irfan khan batting so low. He's a big hitter and clears boundary with ease!

This clown ijaz Ahmed needs to be sacked immediately. What on earth is Irfan and haris batting low. Why is this rubbish fahad munir batting at 3. Why does shehzad keep getting selected , when the highest scorer is warming the bench?

I hope Haris and Rohail compete for the WK role in the PK team in the coming decade. Too many of our WK`s get lazy because they have so little competition and think they are indispensable

Like we had Rashid Latif and Moeen Khan at the same time some 20 years ago.

Caught some highlights. So far ALl these wickets look like good batting surfaces. Only rubbish sides get bowled out cheaply here.

With all the problems Zimbabwe cricket have they still produce good cricketers and have competitive teams. This Zim u19 pushed India very hard also in the warm-ups.

Pakistan started too slow and it seems wicket got easy as the day progressed.

Great game

Where is that next Naseem Shah(according to Ijaz)-Amir Khan, the one who can bowl upto 147 kph

We will get thrashed by Bangladesh

We are minnows in front of them at U19 level

This game could’ve made for a compelling viewing. Wonder what the broadcasters are thinking. This game is sure as hell better than ind v Jap.

looks like we will be losing this which means we should be knocked out of world cup if i am correct...

Still not out the woods yet. Need 2 more wickets then it should be smooth sailings, I'd say.

I have seen his bowling videos. He's not express and he's also very raw. Our coaches just go over the top most of the times.

Looks like either Wasim Jnr or Tahir Hussain will make way for Aamir Khan for the next match.

That being said some of the Zim youngsters are impressive and did decently against Ind in the warm up as well. I hope Zim cricket can have their act right and become a decent cricket team at international level again.

Videos are difficult to judge. Even from live matches in national T20 cup people were saying that Naseem is 135 kph bowler.

Plenty of wrist slitting in this thread. It's a bloodbath!

This is nothing I have seen some posters predict how Pakistan is struggling and other team is taking the game away after 2-3 overs or an ODI match. Lol!

Can't disagree with what you have said but he's no Naseem Shah yet.

Are you delusional?

India won by only 20 runs in the warm up match against Zim. Does that mean BD are better than India too?

Bangladesh and India are about even. They played each other four times last year and it was 3 - 1 in favour of India but two of those matches that India won could have gone either way.

Pakistan is nowhere near either Bangladesh or India. You got kicked out of the last U19 Asia Cup in the group stages.

Right Folks as i said two weeks ago i was so excited to see a so called opener bowling medium pace...Two matches Mohammed Shehzad hasnt even bowled a ball and his batting has hardly set the world on fire..so what was all that statement from Ijaz Ahmed about ..this is MY BOLD decision as he opens and bowls....

So Waseem should probably make way for Aamir Khan in the next match.

Can't disagree with what you have said but he's no Naseem Shah yet.

I doubt if he will be as good as Naseem it terms of skillset, might have good pace though.

Naseem in my opinion is a prodigy and not just because of pace but he ability to ball nagging lengths with ability to move it around at this age. I have said this before Naseem’s debut as well that he is the best young prospect in the decade and coaches also rate him like that. Shaheen is definitely up there as well now with his substantial growth and work ethics he has shown.

Mohammad Haris man of the match

Lol then Pakistan know what they have to do against BD.

I hope Madhevere and Myers play for Zimbabwe in future. There is a good chance they might go Kolpak.

Pakistan U19 ensure quarter-finals berth with win over Zimbabwe

Potchefstroom, 22 January 2020:

Pakistan U19 beat Zimbabwe U19 by 38 runs at the Witrand Oval, Potchefstroom on Wednesday and ensured their qualification to Super League quarter-finals.

In their chase of 295, Zimbabwe were skittled out for 255 in 46.3 overs courtesy a consolidated bowling effort from the Pakistan bowlers.

Zimbabwe were off to a good start with openers Wesley Madhevere and Emmanuel Bawa adding 64 runs for the first wicket. The partnership was broken by left-arm-spinner Aamir Ali who accounted for the wicket of Bawa (19).

Madhevere was the second wicket to fall as he was dismissed caught and bowled by Qasim Akram after scoring 53 off 55 balls (six fours, one six). Qasim also took the key wicket of captain Dion Myers (39 off 50 balls, two fours and one six) who was spectacularly caught by Mohammad Irfan Khan, who took a one-handed diving catch.

The match was turned on its head by Abbas Afridi in the 39th over of Zimbabwe innings. The right-arm medium-fast first bowled Milton Shumba, who scored 58 off 82, on a slower one and then sent back Tadiwanashe Marumani (16) two balls later to leave Zimbabwe at 208 for five.

Tahir and Abbas took three wickets, while Aamir Ali and Qasim bagged two scalps each.

Earlier, Mohammad Haris scored a blistering 81 after Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bat.

Haris came into bat with Pakistan placed at 140 for four after 33 overs. The boys in green added 154 runs in the last 17 overs mainly due to Haris’ brilliance. The right-hander hit seven fours and three towering sixes in his 51-ball knock.

Haris added 43 for the fifth-wicket with Qasim Akram (54 off 50 balls, five fours and two sixes), 41 for the sixth-wicket with Muhammad Irfan (15) and 42 for the seventh wicket with Abbas Afridi (10) before falling with 12 balls left in the innings.

Haris took the attack to the bowlers and made the most of the repair job done by Qasim and Fahad Munir (53 off 79 balls, five fours) who added 66 runs for the fourth-wicket to rescue the side from a tentative start which saw them reduced to 74 for three in 21.3 overs.

Openers Haider Ali (19), Muhammad Shehzad (27) and captain Rohail Nazir (0) were the first three wickets to fall.

Pakistan now play Bangladesh U19 in the last group match on Friday.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan 294 for 9, 50 overs (Mohammad Haris 81, Qasim Akram 54, Fahad Munir 53; Dylan Grant 3-46)

Zimbabwe 255 all-out, 46.3 overs (Milton Shumba 58, Wesley Madhevere 53, Dion Myers 39; Tahir Hussain 3-42, Abbas Afridi 3-55, Aamir Ali 2-51, Qasim Akram 2-41)

It was a warm up match Atleast a couple of Indians retired after batting for sometime.

I clearly wrote it was a warmup match. So what’s with the repetition?

Also how does them retiring have to do with how you bowled?

What is their to chest bump about your mighty bd u19 side .?Your so called u19 super star in past are average at senior cricket while from Pakistan Shaheen afridi ,naseem shah have already proven to be great finds .

i would rather have knockout in first stage of u19 worldcup if we can produce super star like naseem ,shaheen

Choti choti khushiyan for them.

Also, it’d be hilarious if all this talk results in them losing to SA in the QF

:))) :))) :))) SO TRUE.

Wrist slitting everywhere!

That's the only thing you know. Sack everyone. Except Sarfraz & Mickey Dark Era.

Stop posting rubbish when did I support sarfraz. Show me evidence. As for Mickey I wanted him to continue and if we wanted to replace Mickey. Then we should have got someone better not shameless misbah.

I follow all cricket not just internationals and specially I don't watch or follow cricket because my favourite is selected. Coming to ijaz as you clearly don't follow u19 since your master is not the coach let me educate you. Shehzad was a total failure in u16 vs Bangladesh and in the u19 domestics but he selected which you can explain. To make things worse he playing at the expense of the guy who was the highest u19 scorer in the u19 tournament. Plus I have watched both of them bat and mohammed huraira is better then him. Shehzad has failed in all the games this tournament including the warm ups but he keeps getting selected. His strike rate is awful to say the least and we were told by ijaz that he bowls and is an all rounder and he's yet to bowl. Explain why shehzad?

Secondly haris has been a consistent u19 batsmen and batted at 4 and 5 against South Africa and Sri Lanka where he won us few games and more importantly he had comfortably the best striker rate. Now genius ijaz decides to bat him at 6 knowing well he has done well batting at 4 and 5.

Now coming to irfan khan naizi which your hero rates. Should be enough for you to support him regardless him being good or rubbish. He played against South Africa where he was one of our leading runs scorer. He showed can play accordingly to situation. He got an unbeaten 100 there too. Plus runs at a high strike rate too. In addition he scored at 47 in quaid e azam trophy second 11. The first match he batted at 3 I believe where he scored 38 off 32 balls beaten. What does ijaz do he bats him at 7 when he's a top order batsmen.

Arish ali was the leading wicket taker in the u19 tournament I believe and he's yet to get a game.

Let's move to fahad munir. He's an all rounder but doesn't bowl much and bats at 3. He was batting around 60 odd strike rate against South Africa and didn't bat against Scotland since he plays at misbah strike rate hence usable in that game. In the warm ups he was batting work 60 odd strike rate again. But he keeps getting played at the most crucial position of 3. Again today he played at a pathetic strike rate of 60 odd again which nearly cost us the game. While in bowling he 24 off 4 overs and qasim akram outbowled him who plays mainly as a batsmen. Today we were lucky because haris played a gem of an innings as well as qasim akram played at higher strike rate.

Next time you question someone analyse watch and most importantly don't make lies up.

Thank you Khan brother, that post was informative. It would have been a bit better had you toned down the emotions a bit, but I'd still take it.

I haven't followed what Ijaz is doing but seems like he experimented with changing the order today. It would become very concerning if he continues to play these folks at the wrong positions.

Great post

Ijaz is awful

What about haider ali and rohail nazir they havent done much in the last 2 games yet they supposed to be cut above everyone else they need to start performing if pakistan has any chance of getting into the semi final.

Amir Khan is supposedly the quickest bowler he shouldhave played today.I know quick bolwers can leak runs but they also take wickets. In ODI's it is important to take early wickets.

Mohammad Haris speaking after the match:

"When I went into bat, we were playing very slowly but the coach told us not to panic and not lose any more wickets, he told us to play a long innings and take the game to the 50th over; That's exactly what I did"

"It was a flat wicket and it was my intention to attack them and make them bowl loose deliveries to me"

"I had belief in me that if I batted to the end of the innings I could score more runs, I play spinners well and so when they brought in spinners at the end I scored freely taking 12 runs in one over also"

"This was an important victory for us as Zimbabwe team played very well, I hope in the upcoming games against better teams we will make less mistakes and not repeat same errors"

Good analysis Khan12. Definitely there are some things for Ijaz to look at in terms of combination.

Khan12

One thing to correct, Shehzad has not played any domestic U19 tournament.

Afg are better than SA

That is why I wrote that Pakistan know what to do against BD. They crushed SA 7-0 in SA. Of course they would want to meet them instead of AFG who have defeated Pak U19s not long ago.

I thought he did where he scored around 70 odd in few matches. But thanks for the correction.

Yeah but Afg will top the group so Pakistan has to win if they want to play SA

I think it’s too soon to dismiss Shehzad. He’s 16 playing a U19 tournament, and this was just his second ever U19 ODI after debut, that too against the new ball as an opener. He hasn’t done spectacularly especially with the strike rate but I would give him another game or two to see him feel more comfortable. One of the biggest mistakes we make as Pakistanis is we drop batting talents too soon before they come into their own. This is what differentiates us from India where they’ve persisted with Rahul even despite a lot of mediocre performances. I’m not saying Haider is a spectacular talent, but please stop writing him off especially when Haider and Rohail’s dismissals had nothing to do with his strike rate, and his own dismissal was a run out, not due to his batting. He still made 27 before that run out, so he never got the chance to begin accelerating. Yes, it’s completely unfair for Huraira to sit out because of him. But trash Ijaz for this, not Shehzad. The kid doesn’t deserve that. If anything, I’m actually glad Shehzad is developing as he still has another world cup to go, where he can potentially captain, open, and bowl medium pace (in 2 years his bowling and pace itself will have potential to really improve, which is why I assume Ijaz has talked about it despite not utilizing it right now). It’s always good for a debutant to get good exposure. Maybe Ijaz sees something in him despite not being at Huraira’s level yet (since he’s so young). I’m decently impressed that someone who hasn’t ever played U19 before could score decent amounts of 18*, 24, 27 in his first four U19 innings still very young.

We’re still definitely missing out on Huraira who I’d really love to see if we want to win tbh. But that’s not Shehzad’s fault.

Note that I’m not saying Rahul is an exceptional talent, I’m talking about the difference in mentality between how we treat our batsmen and how other teams treat their batsmen
