I agree about his performances but they invested in him for this world cup. If you remove him now, there will always be question marks about what he could have done. Last minute changes are not really a good thing anyway and show lack of planning. Back him in this world cup and if he fails, drop him because he'd deserve it.
 
The fact that Haider Ali continues to find a place in the Pakistan team after the number of chances he has had in the last year is a testament to how “merit” is defined in Pakistan! Very sad!

Think he forgot he is playing an international game - was thinking he's in the nets and the bowler will bowl again.

He is being given chances after chances on hope instead of on belief.

He looks totally lost. Does not know where and how his runs are going to come. He has no plan B and is just doing the same thing over and over again and failing. Very sad state of affairs.

Has there ever been a more undeserving player in a WC squad?
 
I hope he's not another Asif "I can work my magic when I face 2 or 3 balls" Ali.

Not in a good place at the moment is Haider.

I wonder if Fakhar comes into the squad instead of him?

If you want a young Pakistani batsman to waste his potential and stall in their development - send him to a Pakistani coach.

Babar should remember how Mickey Arthur babysat him for two years in Tests. For two years, Babar did jack-all in Tests (bottled those two crunch chases vs SRL and NZL in Abu Dhabi) yet Mickey retained him as he recognised a generational talent.

Haider has weaknesses no doubt particularly against short bowling. However the player we saw on debut smashing England and the player we see now is unrecognisable. Too many local coaches gotten into his head telling him play straight, cut out the big shots, do this do that. It didn't help we dropped him despite performing well vs WI at home last winter.

He lacks the mental acuity for the riskless accumulation we see from Babar and Rizwan. He needs a short, clear message to play aggressively and allow room for failure.

The problem is not with coaching or chopping and changing. Haider has had enough opportunities to showcase where he stands.

The problem is early induction of batsmen into international cricket. Haris and Haider played a few eye catching cameos in PSL and suddenly found themselves in a fire pit vs the best in the world.

Batting needs mileage. Pak should have let these players develop in domestics for 3-4 years a
Instead, they should give chances to baked players like Ghulam, Agha, Saud, Sahibzada, Tayyab and co who have done the hard yards and done well across formats. They may or may not have the final gears today but they have the basics to build on and can develop.

I agree with that too. Misbah also fast-tracked Abdullah Shafique, and that too in his weakest format T20s in 2020 in NZL. Like Haider he missed out on a full QEA Trophy because of this foolishness.

Our current middle order have had plenty of time to cook. They come with very good List A averages in nearly every case.

I do agree that batsman need time to learn and hone their skills though. That's why ideas about sending in Saim Ayub based on one good tournament show a lack of understanding from top posters here.

We lack good LOI batsmen in general though. I don't think any the names mentioned in Ghulam, Agha, Saud, Sahibzada, Tayyab are going to save us in t20's. That's why they ended up taking the gamble on Haider based on the early promise he showed.

The difference today was he combined proper ground strokes with his slogs. That's what he needs to do. Trust your technique, your drives and cuts. He gets amazing power behind his shots.

Some of those shots he hit with some serious power.. There’s something about this guy I like, I hope he can maintain some consistency in his batting now.
 
I'm still worried about our approach at the top.. We almost digged our grave today.. Thanks to ALMIGHTY that Nawaz & Haider got the momentum specially when they got 25 in Sodhi's over..

If we're always ready for Asif Ali's hit and miss it's better to drop him and take Fakhar Zaman and keep Shan Masood in the squad...

Pretty much this, I'm not even excited tbh because I know this one inning means nothing in the overall scheme of things.

Crazy inning though nonetheless, just wish the next time we see this again from him isn't after 2 years.

He's the cleanest striker of the ball in the team. Probably booked his spot against India with this performance.

dont need to do any more than what he did today. Scoring at 200+ strike rate is more than enough, remember Rizwan played double the balls and still scored almost same runs as Haider. So the person who need to do more is Rizwan and not Haider.
Haider need to do it more often, that I agree with.

not easy to get confidence when you are aggressive player by nature and yet you see slow and selfish players are selected to play as openers. This selfish environment is toxic
 
Today’s final and haider ali had inzi written all over it (92) match was similar to 92 semi final.

Our management has dong water in their eyes though. They dropped Haider after a 30+ score at a high SR not too long ago. They are willing to give a long rope to someone who scored a match losing 50 off 46 but not to someone who scored a match winning 30 off 14.

They only see the amount of runs, not the context. Hope they see his value though.
 
Have always said it, we need to stick with haider ali, as he got the technique n the game to succeed at this level.

By more i meant he needs to score more runs than 30.

For example if he scores a 50 at such rate, he will single handedly win Pakistan the game.

People dont realize how selfless today's innings was from him.

His career was on the line and he danced down the track to hit a six on his second ball.

This must be appreciated.

Very good point.

It was incredibly brave and selfless. Failure here would have easily seen him dropped.
 
Glad he finally clicked. What power shots and someone who certainly has potential. He's young and needs backing. Out of all his hitting power seemed cleanest, hopefully he will deliver in the world cup
 
Form is temporary. Class is permanent. In form players don’t need anyone’s backing. It’s the ones who are not in form who needs backing. You back the potential. Good to see him doing well today.
 
He just lacks basics , need to play the ball on merit instead of premeditating it , if he can do that he will be successful , he has all the talent in the world.

Amazing innings by him today. Proved to be a catalyst for the win at the end. If he can play these kind of knocks more regularly our middle-order problems will disappear completely.

Credit should be given to the team management who backed him even when people were calling for his head. I think at this point you have to drop Khushdil to make way for Fakhar.

I stand by what i said about him. He could not have been dropped in this WC because of the investment they made in him. After WC he should be dropped. He hasnt shown any improvements.
 
Pathetic beyond words at this guy now. Pandya was laughing at him in the previous match. An absolute tool of tools.

He’s being turned into a slogger who’s confused about how to go about his innings if you see he has shown potential in first class cricket to be a test batsman and the best way to utilise his attacking game in limited overs is by opening.

I have little doubt if Haider opens he can better Babar and Rizwan strike rates in the powerplay thats what’s needed quick runs in the first 6 overs to set up the innings.
 
Also he’s nowhere near his prime expecting consistent match winning performances is too much let him develop and gain more experience in domestic before expecting him to make up for the failures of other batsmen.

The question to ask is Haider a lower order hitter/slogger or a top order batsman in T20s?

He hasn’t shown he’s suited to the hitter role at his age hopefully he can show improvement in the next PSL as an opening batsman and be a long term attacking opener as that’s what Pakistan needs.

He needs to watch Harry Brook play & learn something from him. There are always excuses for failure.

Brook grabbed his opportunities with both hands & has become one of the best young players in the world while Haider continued to squander chance after chance.

Haider has played 35 times for Pakistan. Brook has played 22 times for England. The difference between the two in terms of impact & output are staggering.
 
If some people still have some hope from Haider Ali, they must be the most optimistic people in the world.

Great decision Unfortunaltely these young players arent interested in self development but just makng a fast buck or two

He needs to play some domestic cricket again and learn how to build innings Learn to spend some damn time at the crease

Alot of cross batted shots, which are fine on flat pitches but anytime the ball moves you will LBW, just like in the WC, when he like a deer caught in the headlights.

Needs to get himself a capable personal batting coach.
 
Haider should focus on the next first class season and train to play the full duration. He will be able to spend time working on his technique and mature in the process. He’ll obviously need to put up the runs as well but age is on his side, I hope he doesn’t waste the time he has.

He should learn from Shan Masood. With his talent and Masoods work ethic, he could become one of Pakistans ATGs.
