With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 just around the corner, Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the tournament, has brought back its iconic ‘Mauka Mauka’ campaign with an interesting twist. The campaign is a combination of cheeky humour and friendly banter that makes it relatable and funny. The ‘Mauka Mauka’ ad was first introduced before the 2015 ICC World Cup. The T20 Cricket World Cup has been scheduled between October 17- November 14 2021.

“The India-Pakistan clash is one of the biggest matchups in the world of sports. The clash at an ICC event attracts core and casual Cricket fans as well as viewers who don’t watch any other Cricket. The historic on-field rivalry between both teams is unparalleled and we believe that the iconic ‘Mauka Mauka’ campaign captures the spirit of this rivalry, blending competitiveness, banter and sportsmanship”, Sanjog Gupta, head, Sports, Star and Disney India, said.

The campaign has been created and conceptualised by the in-house team at Star Sports. The ad film opens with a Pakistan fan entering his friend’s electronic store to purchase a television set for the upcoming T20 World Cup clash. It continues with the concept of the Indian and Pakistani fans trying to get the better of each other.

In cricketing history, team India never lost to Pakistan in either 50-over World Cup games or T20 World Cup games. Men in Blue has got the better of Pakistan in five consecutive ICC T20 World Cup encounters – twice in the 2007 T20 World Cup, followed by victories in 2012, 2014, and 2016. The latest ‘Mauka Mauka’ ad revolves around that fact and highlights the excitement for the upcoming India-Pakistan match on October 24.

Fortunately, this one is actually light banter and nothing offensive. I thought Star Sports was becoming too crass and cheap with that father day commercial during 2019 WC.

We are obsessed with Pakistan as well. There is nothing wrong with it but most of our fans do not accept it. :inti

I honestly agree with most of your view's so I don't bother to reply but this one unfortunately I don't because youth of India aren't use to indo pak battle and the classic rivalry like we use to
Only thing they heard is from the cringeworthy bollywood movies & news media and they are the one in India who is obsessed with Pakistan day and night if not pakistan the media here try to target certain minorities .

#buyonebreakone LMAO brilliant. Didn't think they could top previous mauka mauka ads.

none of the mauka mauka ads were offensive, it's always been pure banter surrounding the ICC record. I think the one where Star went overboard was the AaneDo one during Pak tour of India in 2012, which turned out to be quite embarrassing given Pak beat us in our home ground lol.

This is so true

The India Pakistan rivalry is no longer what it used to be in the 90s and 2000s.

Its unfortunate that the media still tries to create hype with these cringeworthy ads

The buy one break one free tagline is pretty clever. But none of these ads have ever managed to come close to the 2015 World Cup original

Just pulled out 10 minutes before the match. Nothing to loose for PCB but at least teach BCCI/ICC how it feels like loosing millions with a hectic decision.

2015 WC ad was just too good. This one is also OK. Light banter nothing wrong in this.

I want India - Pakistan rivalry to be renewed. It is the greatest rivalry in cricket and an entire generation has missed out on it, which is such a shame.

We haven't played enough post Mumbai attacked apart from ICC tournaments.

True, the lack of bilateral series’ between Pakistan and India have meant that Pakistan have not been able to further extend the overall lead between the two teams😞

Please pull out..this is a view totally endorsed by me and I am sure by many other Indian fans too. Please stoke the fire of reasoning and make BCCI feel guilty for Eng and NZ pulling out from Pakistan.

Anyway, I don't feel confident of our team this time, even though Dhoni has returned as a mentor.

Always loved this campaign. It is one of the more creative marketing efforts and should be lauded as such.

Below the belt responses, obscenity laden responses and cheap gimmicks should be avoided.

This ad would actually be funny if thousands of Indians didn't also break their TVs every time India lost a big match.

The ad's funny and nothing derogatory or condescending. The 2015 WC ad was also the same.
I'd say the same if we were the loosing team as well.
Frankly, the never lost in the WC streak is just over hyped and doesnt mean Jack.
Its going to end some day, hope not on oct 24th :)...

Massive doubt that has happened.
On the other hand, there's several recorded evidences of this happening elsewhere...

That has happened quite a few times in India, below is the link of video from Aaj Tak news channel.

https://youtu.be/FiXiu1DTS_c

One can find numerous other recorded videos as well. So your massive doubt is ill founded.

12-0 in WC’s but still 73-56(?) down overall😚

No Indian fan would ever trade a 12 zip streak in World tournaments (that includes a WC final, semi final and a Quarter Final) spanning over 3 decades and generations...with a 73-56 record built on JAMODI wins.

I'm pretty sure even Pak fans would pick the former if given an option.

In India these things are generally paid stunts by media channels. Most likely Aaj Tak channel paid few guys to do such stuff for money. Its a common tactic in India :P

Might be the same in Pakistan. Don't believe middle class folks in subcontinent will smash a costly tv set bought with hard earned money bcoz of a cricket match

tbh, I’m more concerned with the overall H2H stats. Sure I’d be happy with a 12 win streak over India in ICC WC’s, but beating India in the CT17 final has made up for the streak.

Yes to be honest I have also felt the same on occasions. Doubt many people in India and Pak will actually be breaking the TVs. Media loves sensationalism so wont be surprised if they created the stunts or some other people trying to make their video viral.

when India lost to Australia in 2015 WC semi-final , there was hardly any anger from the general public towards the players

But still a local news reporter got some folks to burn posters of Dhoni and Kohli to express anger. It was half an hour stunt and was shown on tv that night !

Even Ind U19 team can win against our lulu team.

A lot milder and more funny and friendly.
I like it better. It suits with the sports rivalry that should stay only at the ground.

If Pakistan wins, and that is a big IF, I hope our folks have a new version of "Dhoka Dhoka" to counter it.

I personally don't see anything wrong with these ads. It's all a good bit of fun. If the shoe was on the other foot and it was us who dominated India in ICC events, you can bet that we'd be releasing these ads too.

Harmless banter, but it should be motivation for our team to prove them wrong.

It does show, however, that despite all the posters here claiming that the hype has died, neither ICC, nor broadcasters will stop milking the profits from this game.

A game that a lot of fans are claiming lacks importance but will end up glued to their televisions on match-day.

Nothing wrong with banter but this concept is now stale. They need to think of something new instead of continuing to milk Mauka Mauka. Besides, it’s very easy to respond to this if we win….Thoka Thoka

A game that a lot of fans are claiming lacks importance but will end up glued to their televisions on match-day.
And why won't they? We hardly play each other anyways, last time we played each other was more than 2 years ago, and hence all the more reason for both sets of fans to be passionate for these rare chances to see these 2 play against each other.

This guy (Vishal?) who acts Pakistani fan in the advert...his acting is so awesome. Just bcoz of him and ofcourse the catchy song this advert is so famous.

Never going to happen under Ramiz, who is the most pro Indian PCB chairman yet.
Maybe under someone like Inzamam (who is known not to think much about future ramfications)

Buy 1 Break 1 free is pretty funny.

Hopefully no tv smashing this time in Pakistan :)

Lets hope so.

2007 (talking about T20 WC only) seems so long away. The other T20 losses I dont even rememeber, but from 2007 when I was an exchange student in Turkey to 2021 being a father of 2 kids, I really hope Pak is able to beat the streak!

Not that much time nowadays for cricket but this is a match I will be watching.

Fingers crossed.

Loss will define Kohli’s legacy as Limited overs captain and a Parting gift…

India have tasted much bigger victories recently - test victories in Australia and England. Even if we lose, it won't cause that much burn.

Yeah but India isn't obsessed with Pakistan anymore...

lol haha
Looks like you haven't been watching their news channels for the last couple of years.

Their entire news industry runs on the obsession with Pakistan. The politics primarily runs on Pakistan.

And for sports? Whenever there is an India Pak games, it's the Indians who mostly buy the tickets in hoards and the games are sold out in matter of minutes.

Don't even remotely agree.

I really like the friendly nature of it, especially the bit in the end where they clasp their hands - exactly how things should be

Class ad, nothing derogatory and all done in good humour which is also the reason Mauka Mauka series of ads is so successful.

Altho, i must add that they specifically have mentioned the T20I WC streak rather than the full WC streak that fans usually quote. Read between the lines. Someones a bit scared. :afridi

India and Pakistan tied the first match. So technically they have not won all T20 World Cup matches against Pakistan

The match between both the sides ended as a tie, and as a result, the game went into a bowl out, and India DEFEATED Pakistan 3-0....

I've seen it on the news on atleast three occasions. The most notorious being the 2017 Champions Trophy Final

https://www.dawn.com/news/1340611

But then again, you might not be someone who keeps up with the news that much.

Whatever news i watch does not , Dawn is defo not going to be one of them and secondly 'sporting backwater' wont be a description on them....

any ways....hope match is good and hope TV's dont break.

the ad is in continuation from previous where the Pakistani character is waiting for his chance to burst crackers,so in this one the Indian says 'patakhe toh footne se rahe, kuch toh footega'

No one has claimed Indians dont break TV. Hope Pak channels make a good ad on that. All good banter :)

I agree.

Hopefully, posters here don't confuse passion with blatant political schemes. That will make the encounter even better in my mind.

That's okay. I'm sure you have read or seen India Today. Pretty well known Indian media channel and newspaper.

https://www.indiatoday.in/india/sto...an-angry-fans-kashmir-happy-983421-2017-06-19

TVs likely will break unless India or Pakistan lift the trophy. Because the simple reality is that people on both sides of the border are often prone to doing the same things. So for you to bring nationalism into this and say that Pakistanis do it, but Indians don't is just sad and reflects more on your personality than anyone else.

Except certain posters have.

I'm in full agreement with you. Nobody minds a little banter and humor. It's all in good fun. But when certain posters start bringing ignorant nationalism into this, and start saying that your people do it, but our people don't...then it rightly angers someone like me.

Haahaa very good I must say. Buy 1, Break 1..whoever came up with that deserves a promotion!

Ok bhai, I agree, point taken - lets enjoy the match and treat it for the game it is, and not label each other.
cheers :ds

They have all right to create an ad to mock us - perhaps a script where a Pakistani fan sticks their leg out and one of our IPL heroes fall smack on his face.

Will be interesting to see what Star Sports comes up with now. Honestly this Streak had to break some day.

I bet they'll come up with another ad for the 2023 WC citing the ODI streak is longer.

I hope not. hope our people don't go for something so cheap. that kinda tacky nonsense will forever belong to india.

News reports saying this ad not being made again

They might stop Mauka Mauka Ad, but do not be shocked if a new trend comes up, or a new ad on their end. hehehe

Mauka Mauka Ad was pretty catchy and funny too- annoying for us but it was brilliant gotta give credit where its due- Come On Star Sports- I am sure you can come up with a new ad for sure :)

India and Pakistan tied the first match. So technically they have not won all T20 World Cup matches against Pakistan

If you want to be more technical from 2007-2016 It was officially known as ICC World Twenty20- fans themselves would call it t20 world cup. But it officially or techincally became called T20 WORLD CUP in 2021, so by that in T20 world cup record is 1-0 In favor of Pakistan :) see what I did their brother :) haha

Indian broadcaster opts not to make 'Mauka Mauka' ad for upcoming Indo-Pak game

Renowned Indian broadcasters Star Sports has decided against making their infamous ‘mauka mauka’ advertisement series for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 match between Pakistan and India.

'Mauka Mauka' campaign has been very famous in India as Star Sports created it before the 2015 ICC World Cup clash between the two nations. The advertisement was intended to mock Pakistan for their terrible record in the World Cup.

But now, the table has turned as the broadcasters have decided not to continue with the campaign as India suffered a humiliating defeat against the Men in Green in the previous encounter.

Babar Azam-led side claimed a ten-wicket win against India in the 2021 T20 World Cup and broke the streak.

The arch-rivals will face each other on 28 August at Dubai International Stadium. The two sides might also play each other on 4 September in the Super 4s of the competition and may face each other again in the final on 11 September if they both manage to qualify

LOL hahahah. Hunn aayi aqal tkane te.
LOL babar and rizwan humbled whole of India.

Joke is on you mate....nothing to Hahaha about. Indian media has all the right to boast considering the below record:

1992 - Sydney
1996 - Bangalore
1999 - Manchester
2003 - Centurion
2007 - Durban
2007 - Centurion
2011 - Mohali
2012 - Colombo
2013 - Edgbaston
2014 - Dhaka
2015 - Adelaide
2016 - Kolkata
2019 - Manchester

Don't think any major rivalry has this kind of one sided domination in world cups.

If Pakistani fans can still rejoice for win in 1 game, how can you blame Indians for celebrating 13?

so it took just one 10-wicket drubbing to take all "hawa" out?

That ad no longer makes any sense. It was made specifically for the streak and since it is broken, they have stopped making it.

I am sure Star will hype the game with some other advert but Mauka makes no sense now.
