Why no centuries against Aus and SA in Indian turning tracks ?

Yes because tours of SA (2013), NZ (2014), Aus (2014), Eng (2016), SA (2018) and Eng (2018) were all friendly matches. All 17 test matches were just played for fun.
Even in the SA home series of 2015 that you mention, Kohli did well. It was a very low-scoring series. Apart from Rahane, no batsmen from either side averaged more than 36. Kohli averaged 33.
Greatest batsman I've watched live since I started following cricket, I missed Sachin and Lara's peak years. In tests Smith may be a contender but Virat is the complete package.

Virat Kohli ji is not the master chaser he is made out to be.. he just could not win any Test match batting in 4th innings.. whatever we say, it's the 4th innings chase which separates men from boys and Kohli has not been able to play any good innings yet.
It's one thing to score easy runs, and quite another to score when needed the most.. his 4th innings chasing record will always be a blot on his career and thus can never be considered an ATG.. look at Younis Khan, he has such a good average in 4th.
So you are putting down Kohli because of not being able to finish 4th innings chases in the England series, ignoring his overall 4th innings record. And you conveniently bring up Younis Khan's overall record in 4th innings. Can you please let us know how many of his 4th innings knocks helped his team win Test matches? So you are putting down Kohli because of not being able to finish 4th innings chases in the England series, ignoring his overall 4th innings record. Let me break it down to you. He has 1 century and 2 50's in 4th innings that came in victories. And that's his overall record. Kohli so far has 1 50 in 4th innings that came in a win. So he needs 1 century and 1 more 50 in 4th innings wins to match Younis Khan.
And you're comparing them based on that criteria? Strange!

ATG after averaging 59.30 in a series at his absolute peak? This has got to be a joke, right?
Let me remind you that Mohinder Amarnath averaged 66 against the greatest bowling line up ever assembled on their own turf in 1983 and yet nobody ever called him an ATG.
Day after day, I see this hooplah around Kohli (primarily owing to incessant marketing) increasing and I just don't get it. Viv Richards went to England as a young man in 1976 and averaged 118 with 800+ runs in 4 Tests. Rahul Dravid went to England in 2002 at his peak and scored 600+ runs in 3 Tests (more than Kohli could do in 5). These are the real ATGs.
Virat Kohli is someone who just had a good series, in which too the "master chaser" choked in 2 run chases when it was really needed. Not to mention that the guy has practically insured that no one except himself can ever be sure of their places in the team. He is the only guy in the team playing with any sense of security whatsoever. In a sense, this guy is obligated to be doing well to make up for the hole he and Shastri have put India in due to their nonsensical selections on a consistent basis.
Kohli is not ATG yet.... No doubt one of the best batman of this era but still long way to go and i think Kohli not even achieved 50% of what YK achieved in his career... People overhyping kohli like he is second coming of Don.. Calm down Guys
Clearly the benchmark for ATG is performances in odi tri-series involving WI and SL ... we get that. But do tell us how he fools the selectors into picking him when he is such a crap player as you say.

When people talk about the best batsmen of this generation they talk about Kohli. No one talks about YK as one of the best or among ATG.
Why should we listen to those people? We can form our own judgment.. Kohli looks for easy runs.. what is his performance on turning tracks of India against good spinners ?
Because these people are the experts who mould opinion. Now one or two or a couple of them saying something is one thing but here its unanimous.
Kohli scored 590 easy runs in England.
Scored 4 centuries in Aus
Just out batted everyone in the SA test series.
Such easy runs.
Some PPers have such exceptionally high standards for Kohli to rate him as ATG LOL. What next? He needs to bat upside down with a tooth pick and get a run a ball 200 dealing only in 6s and 4s in MCG this summer to earn the respect of some demanding fans here? Grow up, if every batsman is held to such high standards there won't be any ATG left in our sport. Kohli cemented his spot as ATG this year with his back to back efforts in SA and Eng. The only question is whether he can end up in the upper chamber of ATGs joining Sachin, Viv, Sobers, Kallis etc. I am pretty sure he will perfect the art of batting by the time he is done, he will change our sport forever like very few have done. We are privileged to watch greatness in its purest form, why bicker and whine instead of enjoying the maestro in all his glory?
Still no answer to his problems against spin on India's turning tracks..
Changing goal posts... SENA to spinning tracks. Haven't you seen Kohli destroy SL spinners?
He is not even close to what Younis Khan has achieved.. look at his 4th innings average and against spin ..
Which SL spinner he destroyed ? Against Australia and SA in India he couldn't score a single run when pitches turned.

Look at Steve Waugh's 4th innings average. Is he also not close to YK in your book? Every batsman has flaws, Kohl has less flaws than most including YK. He has done reasonably well in 4th innings and while he may not be as proficient against spin, he overshadows Younis against pace/bounce/seam. Not talking about ODIs/T20s because than things will get really ugly and I don't want to disrespect a legend like YK to win trivial arguments in a forum.
Not until his runs translate to something more than India getting smashed in SENA. His three greatest series have seen India get beaten 2-0, 4-1 and 2-1 (the sole win coming in a dead rubber). Compare that to some of the real great players and you'll see that they actually won tests/series for their respective teams.
He's a good test cricketer right now and arguably the best in the world, but has some way to go before he can be compared with the greats.
ODIs/T20s don't define the legacy of a player.. it's Test cricket which separates men from boys.
YK has a fabulous overall record against pace and spin alike.. you should have watched him on India tour of 2005-06 when he scored a century in Kolkata against Kumble, and then followed it with a double-ton in Bangalore.. a match winning effort.
This. He is scoring all his runs in losing causes which mean absolutely nothing from the team's point of view. He might be achieving great personal milestones, but is unable to change the fortunes of his team on overseas tours. These runs are nothing but moral victories.
I watched him and those were flattish pitches. Kohli has done well against spinners on flat pitches. He failed on rank turners against SA, Aus and NZ which featured low scoring matches. Younis was extraordinary against spin but don't remember how he fared on rank turners. Pujara is the only batsman I have seen who consistently scores well on such pitches and Kohli can't match that. He doesn't need to because he has other strengths. No batsman is flawless.
Did you check Steve Waugh's 4th innings record?

Does the same criterion apply to Lara?
I am a silent reader of this forum but this forum never stop me to amaze after four year mocking him for his poor series in eng suddenly goals are changed now new criteria is to perform in rank turner . This must be a hight of absurdity. What a sore loser mentality so now every Asian batsman judged by his performance in Asia. Next against Zimbabwe where Younis Khan scored double hundred

Kohli....
Top scored in the series Vs Sa in Sa -> 286 runs
Top scored in the series Vs Eng in Eng -> 593 runs.
Currently second highest scorer Vs Aus in Aus -> 224 runs ( Trailing Pujara by 66 runs)

Well - he is happy!
Virat Kohli is one of the most passionate cricketers going around and likes to wear his hearts on his sleeves when it comes to showcasing his emotions on the pitch. The Indian captain has been one of the most consistent batsmen in the past few years and has already established his credentials as one of the greatest the game has ever seen. However, for Kohli, there is more to life than just cricket and he intends to focus on his family post cricket.
He has been one of India's best in the sport and continues to rule batting charts in both ODI and Test formats. Kohli has over the years broken several records with his bat and created several of them. He recently overtook Sachin Tendulkar to become the quickest to score 10,000 ODI runs for India and is the only active batsman, who remains in touching distance of overtaking Sachin's tally of most international centuries - 100.
Kohli currently has 64 international hundreds to his name after scoring his 39th ODI ton against Australia in the recently-concluded ODI series. He left behind Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara to take the third spot on the list of batsmen with most international centuries. He is only behind former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and Sachin on the elite list.
While he continues to assert his dominance as one of the greats of the modern generation, Kohli wants to focus on his family after cricket. He has already claimed that he won't be touching his bat after retiring and now he has explained what he intends to do post-retirement
"8 years down the line, priority would be family. Priority would be myself, Anushka and our family by then. Cricket would obviously be a part of my life always but I think family should be priority at all times because nothing is bigger than life. Cricket is a part of life, nothing should be bigger than life," Kohli said on his Mobile Application, Virat Kohli App.
"I know people take life too seriously and be like... 'if you don't take cricket too seriously, then you're not committed enough'. I don't believe in all that. The larger picture always has to be life because whatever happens and may happen, you always come back home.
"So I think the priority will be family, should be family. Cricket will be a very special part of my life, but it's not the most important thing in life is the way I see it. I am blessed to be able to do it right now, it has to end one day. Eight years down the line, I think I will be totally focused on my family," he said.
Kohli recently became first ever Indian captain to win a Test series in Australia. He then led India to another emphatic victory in the ODI series. The visitors won both the series 2-1 respectively Down Under, while the T20I series ended up in a tie after the final game was abandoned due to rain.
I’m guessing he intends to retire after the 2027 World Cup. I think he’ll win India the title and retire like Imran Khan.
No I honestly haven't.
Ok this generation alone, Steve Smith is at another level.
Overall a player will always be judged based on test performances and though Kohli has great numbers for n that format too, he still is way behind Tendulkar, Ponting who despite being attacking batsmen averaged 59+ at their peaks in test cricket. Kohli averages a mere 53 at his peak. It’s quite average.
Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting ..... I'd say they were probably as good as Kohli during their peak (even here I'm being kind/generous to them).
But seriously, have you seen someone you can say was better than Kohli? This guy is not a man, his a bloody machine. He is a phenomenon seen once in 50 years in the game.
41st ODI century, and 66th International century.

Ok this generation alone, Steve Smith is at another level.

Kohli is easily the greatest Batsman of our time. No one comes close. Not even Sachin Tendulkar or Brian Lara.
