[VIDEOS] Sanju Samson - Discussion Thread

Mostly because India's usual no.9 batsman was batting at no.7. So practically there was no batting after him. They could not afford to lose a wicket on a turning, seaming, bouncing wicket.

Ok. Thanks for the informations.
So actually it was fine to be on 50 from 50 and RRR at 15 at the moment.
Thanks bro!

Yes it is fine if you have the ability to produce big overs. Samson can. produce such overs. Game was on until 38th over. 39th over he did not face a single ball. that is where India lost the plot. A 10 run over there mean India would have needed just 20 runs in the last over

Had a Pakistani batsman played such an innings he would have been bashed no end.

Hitting 20 in the last over when the match is already lost is of no use. He was too slow when India needed him.

Was playing at a run a ball 50 with the RRR at 15.

Except some blind fan boys and pant haters most in India do not support this stat padder

Poor inning.
Don't understand the concept of taking game to deep. If you want to try, try now.
A loss is a loss irrespective olif you lost in 35th over or 40th over

India needed ~70 in 5 overs and this guy was batting on some 47-48 ball fifty. It's only that last over hitting which is making his score look good on paper. But India had already lost by the.

Ok. Didn't knew he was that good a hitter that 5 overs 74 runs, he had the RRR under control. Amazing player. India just keep producing these amazing players and posters also.

In those 5 overs two overs are from Shamsi who's having an off day.. you expect to score 30 runs in those two overs and did score 34 runs runs.. 40 runs in 3 overs not difficult if Thakur was around.. and the game is out of the hand in 39th over not 35th..

Cricket is not about slogging, it's about calculated risk too...

It's like if Dhoni hadn't been run out India would've won semi against NZ in WC2019.
But people don't remember Dhoni was the one putting India into that situation of 30 needed of 12 balls.
Yeah, you can blame top and middle order but can't ignore the slowness of Dhoni or Samson's inning.
Both needed to accelerate much earlier instead of saving it for last 1-2 over.

What slowness in Samson innings? He scored run-a-ball without losing his wicket.. and yes it's not Dhoni or Sanju put india in that position, and there's a difference btw t20 and odi, odi allows rebuild innings and comeback to the game.. you can attack earlier if you've wicket in hand otherwise you've to take game deeper..

That much deeper where you need to score 74 from 30 balls? And that too when you are 48 off 48 balls.

Requiring 15 in last one over is not same as requiring 15 from last 5 over each.

Anyway let's agree to disagree.

He is capable of producing monstrous overs. Last year chasing 222 he almost singlehandedly pull off the chase. With 69 to get in the last 5 with not many wickets he almost pulled off. They lost by 4 runs. Penultimate ball Arshdeep picked his wicket. Made 119 in 63 balls

I think you haven't been following Pakistani cricketers amazing batting in T20Is lately! Every single one of them playing for themselves.

Imagine scoring 110 in 16 overs while chasing 210 in a series decider infront of your home crowd? LOL

When Pant scores a 20 ball 22 and gets out in similar situation. His blind fans can be seen using excuses like 'there was too much pressure because wickets fell', 'he played slowly because of jadeja', 'he played for the team and got out'. :91: :inti

You are confusing this match with a T20 lol. South Africa were playing their full strength bowling and Samson already is not team management's favorite, he needs runs under his belt otherwise some overhyped non performers will keep getting opportunities above him. He is a proper batsman not a hack. :inti

Except some blind fan boys and pant haters most in India do not support this stat padder

If DK and Pant can play together then even Samson and Pant can also play together. Just goes to show you are a Pant worshipper and can't even tolerate Samson in a second string Indian team lol. He is a proper batsman. Let him at least play for second string teams for now. Don't be so insecure. No one is hating on Pant, fans know that there are better options available in LOIs so they will talk about it here. Relax. :inti

Here we go again with World Cup semi-final and blaming Dhoni for that loss lol. Some people also blamed Jadeja for it. Now imagine if Dhoni and Jadeja played a similar inning like Pant and Pandya played that day, you guys would have still managed to blame Dhoni or Jadeja even then. :91: :inti

Did you even watch the match lol? Or you just come here after looking at the scorecard kost of the time? India was playing their second string team but Africa wasn't. Did you see how much turn Maharaj and Shamsi were getting on this pitch? :inti

Highly Talented player.
It's just that he is playing cricket in the worst era for an Indian wk/batsman.

This is Rishab Pant's world and all others are mere spectators here.

One can only laugh at comments like these. This is the same guy who was saying India deserves to lose if they don't include Pant in the playing XI. I never say stuff like this here. I criticise players based on their stats but these guys take worshipping to a whole new level. For these fans players are above country. :inti

Very high quality innings. You deserve the applause': Legends reserve ultimate praise for 'impressive' Sanju Samson

As inconsequential this ODI series might be, for Samson, it was yet another reason to prove. And he did deliver, with his best ever ODI score but failed to take India past the target on Thursday in Lucknow. But Samson was hailed for his act by the legends of the game.

ANI-20221006242-0_1665077821460_1665077821460_1665077837837_1665077837837.jpg

Sanju Samson probably had more reasons to prove his worth in the ODI series against South Africa than any other player in the team. Hailed for his batting ability earlier this year which Rohit Sharma felt that would have been apt for India in Australian conditions for the T20 World Cup, Samson received limited opportunities post IPL 2022 before being excluded for both the Asia Cup and the World Cup. Hence, as inconsequential this ODI series might be, for Samson, it was yet another reason to prove. And he did deliver, with his best ever ODI score but failed to take India past the target on Thursday in Lucknow. But Samson was hailed for his act by the legends of the game.

India lost both their openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill, in the powerplay for just eight runs un 5.1 overs. The hosts were further reduced to 51 for four in 17.4 overs in their chase of 250.

In the company of Shreyas Iyer, Samson began his innings and provided some stability to India's score as they pulled off a valiant 67-run stand before the former departed shortly after scoring his half-century. Samson then opened up alongside Shardul Thakur, who had a good day with the bat and with the ball. After picking two wickets for 35 in eight overs, Thakur smashed five boundaries in his 31-ball 33 while Samson too began notching up boundaries and sixes. But the target was always too far for India and despite Samson's best ever effort in ODIs - a 63-ball unbeaten 86 - India lost by nine runs in the series opener.

Moments after the knock, legends of the game took to Twitter to hail Samson for his valiant effort. Here is how they reacted…

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Well played Sanju Samson. "Quite proud of the way the boys played the game, we didn't get a good start, the way Shreyas, Samson and Shardul batted was excellent. We gave away too many runs on a wicket that swung and spun, the fielding wasn't great, but this was a good learning experience for us," said captain Dhawan at the end of the match.

This was Sanju Samson's first ODI in India yet some fans are calling him a stat padder. :91:

I hope he get similar opportunities like Pant and then from there onwards if he doesn't peform he should be dropped. Team always comes first. I am sure we will find a good wicketkeeper batsman for our T20 team. :inti

What a talent. The fact that players like him are on the sidelines shows the depth India has. He would have been a superstar in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

India’s talent is mind-boggling.

He has to solidify his place. There is this new kid Dinesh bana who is already being compared with early days Dhoni. He hits sixes for fun. If he is on track he will pose challenge as well.

This was the first samson innings I have been impressed with, very calculated hitting ..we would have won if he had got enough strike in the last few overs, but that said I can't wait to see Dinesh Bana and Raja Bawa play for India. One hard hitting wk batsmen and other a potential wc all rounder . These two are a notch above what ever we have seen at age group level for India in last 10 years

Raja Bawa can get injured but luckily his father guided him well, it also helps he has the sports genes, he has already been put into the A squads so hopefully we will see him after T20 Wc.

I don't mind pant and Samson playing together or even kishaan... unlucky or unworthy batsman is going to sit out...no problem.if sanju performs consistently then he deserves a place....Indian team is not a bed of roses for favourites....perform or evaporate

He has brute power. Probably the most powerful striker of a cricket ball in contemporary cricket . I just don't find him that watchable because there's not a lot more to his game.

No finesse, deft touches etc.

Samson is talented player but has the most cringeworthy fan base of all.

Kishan has much better fan base in contrast, they are just cool dudes who enjoy his style of batting and don't push up blindly for their favourites in the XI. :inti

I personally only rate those players who have shown atleast some ability to have succeeded in Tests. Test cricket is a beast of a format and even getting to that level is nothing ordinary.

Even the highly successful LOI players like Yuvi managed to play 40 tests so he had his share of ability, elegance, strokeplay and timing which is why he has multiple test hundreds to his name.

As long as Samson don't build that and show it at domestic level first, I can't rate him. Same applies for Kishan.

KL and Pant will remain superior to them due to this reason.

Very good point. Add even Pandya to it, though he has done very less in tests (but he definitely knocked the doors hard) if not for his poor fitness he would have been around in tests too...

‘I’ve been given instructions to be ready…': Sanju Samson drops big hint on his India future

Samson nearly took India over the line with a sparkling knock of 86* off 63 balls in the first ODI in Lucknow and then backed that up with another important knock of 30* off 36 balls to take India home in the second match in Ranchi. Shreyas Iyer has been India's top-scorer in the series so far but Samson has looked the most composed batter.

Sanju Samson has done everything that was in his hands in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa to make a solid case for a permanent spot in India's ODI XI and also in the T20I team after this World Cup. The talented right-hander, who narrowly missed a spot in India's T20 World Cup squad, losing out to Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik, has been in top form in the first two matches against South Africa. What would impress the selectors and the Indian team management more is the fact that Samson's impact innings came while batting at No.5.

Shreyas Iyer has been India's top-scorer in the series so far but Samson has looked the most composed batter.

Ahead of the start of the series-deciding final ODI in New Delhi, the Rajasthan Royals captain, said he has been asked to be ready by the Indian team management to play in every situation.

"I have been practising different types of roles in the last couple of years, I have put in time to understand the types of roles in different teams. I have been given instructions to be ready and do this in the last one year. Physically I have been doing a lot of top-order batting, but mentally I am trying to understand the game and how to react according to the situation, a lot of learning has gone into this. It's important to keep the focus on the process, that has been the talk in the team meetings," Samson said.

India's captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and opted to field first after a wet outfield delayed the start by half an hour. India went in with an unchanged XI for the series decider.

David Miller has stepped up to lead South Africa in captain Temba Bavuma and vice-captain Keshav Maharaj's absence.

Samson will once again look to make an impact on Tuesday.

Pant's fanbase comes across as the dumbest though. Thankfully I am not part of any of these fanbases where fans lose the ability to criticise their favorite players and overhype them to the moon. :facepalm Congratulations to you though for being a loyal member of one such fanbase. :inti

Agreed. Pandya obviously quality wise, there was no question on him. It is just fitness that has been a drawback for him.

Samson is simply not in the league of Iyer let alone trio of Pant, KL and Pandya :inti

'Iyer ahead of Samson, what a joke! Just cheap politics': Hardik, Laxman lambasted over team selection for 2nd T20I

Sanju Samson's exclusion from the playing XI left fans infuriated at captain Hardik Pandya and stand-in coach VVS Laxman.

New_Project_-_2022-11-20T123842853_1668928229183_1668928229321_1668928229321.jpg

Sanju Samson was expected to make a return to the Indian side for the second T20I match against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui on Sunday. Lack of opportunities saw Samson miss out on the Asia Cup tournament and the T20 World Cup, but with selectors recalling him for the New Zealand tour, with India aiming to make a fresh start after the disappointment in Australia, it was expected that he would get a chance in the very first match. But his exclusion from the playing XI left fans infuriated at captain Hardik Pandya and stand-in coach VVS Laxman.

Samson was back for a spot in India's World Cup back in April, before the start of the IPL, when the team were playing their home series. Regular skipper Rohit Sharma was impressed with Samson's batting ability. But the youngster was offered limited opportunities post IPL which eventually left him out of the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup teams.

Samson was however recalled for the New Zealand tour with fans expecting his return to the playing XI. But the wait continued as Hardik picked Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Hooda as middle-order batters and Rishabh Pant as the primary wicketkeeper. The call left fans frustrated and here are some of the tweets…

"To get a game, a proper 20-over game, is exciting. We still need to assess the conditions and see how the wicket is behaving. If the wicket doesn't help you, and you try playing shots and lose wickets, and it doesn't rain, you might be in a difficult position. We'll assess the situation, and if the rain comes, we'll reassess," Hardik said after losing the toss. India were subsequently put to bat first where they scored 50 for one before rain stopped play in the seventh over.

Have seen many fans criticising the team management for not giving proper chances to Samson and these fans are huge in numbers not like 2-3 fans here who keep overhyping a certain player. What they want is equal chances for players to showcase their talent. If they are not good enough they will be replaced by the next in line but here same guy is getting chance after chance and yet failing miserably. :facepalm :inti

He is improving well as white ball player in last 6 months or so but he has got the most pathetic set of fans who don't have the capability to understand how the system works.

They think they will attack Pant and will find a place in Indian team but fail to understand that they are behind atleast 4-5 players in the reckoning - S Iyer ( got a hundred vs SA), SKY( one of the few Indian players to succeed in T20Is and is a special player in all regards) and KL Rahul ( most experienced). Deepak Hooda is there as well who gives a decent overs of bowling if used well.

It's the worst time to be a wicketkeeper batsman in India.
Whatever you do you can't match Rishab Pant, who is a once in a generation cricketer
Sad for Samson, but I think he can play as an opener along with Pant in t20s.

Good to see most indian fans finally speaking against the injustice served to Sanju Samson. They all want India to win and are not like those fans who want India to lose when their favorite superstar is not part of the playing XI. :inti

Nobody would've attack Pant if he had a successful return, so far he's just pathetic even after countless chances.. others also deserves chances.. here him & Rahul getting countless chances but for others don't get much..

Exactly and just saying this won't make others die hard fans of Samson. It's like getting tired of one TTF and asking selectors to try someone else in the line. If Samson also fails fans will ask for someone else. :inti

Give him 10 games. Baithao dusre logon ko': Video of Shastri's stern message to IND on Samson after T20WC exit surfaces

A week after India's exit from the tournament, a video of former India head coach Ravi Shastri resurfaced on Twitter where he has given a stern message to the India team management over Samson.

New_Project_-_2022-11-20T102402207_1668920150095_1668920150270_1668920150270.jpg

Sanju Samson was once backed immensely by India captain Rohit Sharma for his a place in the squad for the T20 World Cup. He had admitted that Samson's batting prowess would have been apt for India in Australian conditions. But Samson did not get his opportunities post IPL and was hence snubbed for the World Cup. A week after India's exit from the tournament, a video of former India head coach Ravi Shastri resurfaced on Twitter where he has given a stern message to the India team management over Samson.

India did not make the final at the T20 World Cup, let alone win the trophy. The trophy-less streak continued as India faced a semi-final exit last week in Adelaide against England.

Moments after the loss, Shastri was in conversation on Star Sports alongside former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan and ex-chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth. It was then that a furious Shastri opined that it is time India gave Samson an array of opportunities, urging the management to back him for 10 straight matches and then take a call.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Give him 10 games in a row. Don't drop him after just two games. Make others sit out and play Samson for 10 games - Shastri <br><br>Only if BCCI had appointed someone like Shastri as coach.....wait... <a href="https://t.co/bC2I8kIhm5">pic.twitter.com/bC2I8kIhm5</a></p>— ∆nkit🏏 (@CaughtAtGully) <a href="https://twitter.com/CaughtAtGully/status/1593850719622529025?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 19, 2022</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

"Look for other youngsters like Sanju Samson...do na chance. 10 match do usko. Aisa nehi ki do match khelaya and phir nikala. Baithao dusre logon ko. Do 10 match. Phir dekhna 10 match ke baad, decide karo ki aur opportunty dena hai ki nehi (Give him a chance. Give him 10 matches. Not like you play him in two games and then drop him. Drop the others, give him 10 matches and then take a call whether to give him moe opportunities or not)," he said.

Samson was not picked for either Asia Cup or T20 World Cup, but has been roped in for the New Zealand T20I series. The opener was washed out due to rain in Wellington. But if weather god shows mercy, Samson might get an opportunity in the second game against New Zealand on Sunday.

Ravi Shastri is saying the exact same thing I have been saying for a long long time now. Give these youngsters enough opportunities to prove themselves but I am labelled as a Pant hater and a Samson fan. If Samson gets enough opportunities and fail then even I will ask for his removal from this team. That's the difference between real cricket fans like me and f@nboys who only want their favorites to play at any cost. They even want their national team to lose if their favorites don't feature in the playing XI. Good to see fans and experts are finally realising the importance of backing these players. :inti

Pant has an advantage of being a left hander and is backed due to the exceptional talent he has got. He has done it in Tests with his aggressive batting approach, his two seasons in IPL 2018 and 2019 were simply phenomenal and that's why Indian TM are backing him for that long. In ODIs also, he is getting into that zone in his last 10 games.

On Samson, I agree that in T20s, he deserves chance as he is pretty talented himself and has started understanding his game well. He is a better T20 player than someone like S Iyer.

In ODIs, he will have to wait a bit because Pant and Iyer hit centuries in their last ODI games and those were vs England and South Africa respectively. Suryakumar will also be backed there because after the World T20 series and successful performance there, his mind and confidence is at another level and hence would be backed.

Rahul was doing really well in bilaterals which is why he was backed but I hope his spot is questioned now after two back to back World Cup failures.

Will be inetersting to see if Sanju gets a chnace tomorrow. He will have a dircet fight for contention with SKy as Shreyas is gauranteed a place despite his issues with the short ball. It would be great to see Sanju and SKy play ahead of Shreyas but it might not happen.

Why is Ravi Shastri saying it now? Why he never gave Samson chances during his tenure on consistent basis?

Samson debuted in 2015 but not got consistent chances till 2022.

Iyer and Pant debuted in 2019 and they got consistent chances since then. This was during Shastri's reign only.

'Aap Sanju Samson ko kya jawab denge? 8 players will go home from New Zealand': Ex-India opener 'baffled' by selection

CRICKET-NZL-IND-84_1669709383428_1669709383428_1669709443023_1669709443023.jpg

What really shook Chopra was the axing of Sanju Samson from the Bangladesh tour. Samson, who didn't get a game in the T20I series in New Zealand, was dropped from the second ODI after playing the series opener, where he made a decent contribution.

As many as eight Indian cricketers who are currently in New Zealand as part of India's ODI squad will head home while 11 new players will fly to Bangladesh to form the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series there. While the return of captain Rohit Sharma, vice-captain KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Axar Patel, and Mohammed Shami was on the expected lines, what defies logic is the absence of Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Umran Malik. Equally astonishing is the inclusion of Ishan Kishan, and Mohammed Siraj. If they were a part of the scheme of things in ODIs then why were they sent home after playing only the T20Is in New Zealand?

Former India opener Aakash Chopra asked some tough questions to the Chetan Sharma-led senior selection committee, which is on its way out but not before they named four different squads at one go in what perhaps was their last selection meeting. Chopra was 'baffled' by the selection that 'defied logic.'

He couldn't understand why Shubman Gill was not named for the Bangladesh ODIs despite being India's best opener in that format this year along with Shikhar Dhawan. But what really shook Chopra was the axing of Sanju Samson. Samson, who didn't get a game in the T20I series in New Zealand, was dropped from the second ODI after playing the series opener, where he made a decent contribution.

However, he will be replaced by Ishan Kishan, who interestingly was not a part of the New Zealand ODIs but will return for the three-match ODI series in Bangladesh.

"When the series ends, nine (eight) players will go back home. The remaining will go to Bangladesh. You have changed 12 players from one series to another. 11 new players are joining (for the Bangladesh ODIs). Wow, can something like this happen?" Chopra said in his YouTube channel.

"If genuinely you have given someone rest then that is SKY. He has been playing a lot of cricket. But what about Sanju Samson? He too is not going to Bangladesh. Ishan Kishan will go. Kishan, who was only there for the T20 leg of the New Zealand tour but wasn't a part of the ODI squad, Samson was.

When you see so many changes in the ODI squad, you feel like how does it make sense? Aap Shubman Gill ko kya batane walo ho? Aap Deepak Hooda ko kya bolenge? Aap Sanju Samson ko jawab kya denge? (What answers will you give to Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda?) If you don't wanna play Kuldeep Chahal together then why do you pick them? If you do, then play them," Chopra added.

Big guns like Rohit, Kohli, Rahul were given a break from the entire New Zealand tour after the T20 World Cup. Chopra said their return was not surprising at all. "Rohit, Rahul and Kohli had to be back.. But I can't understand Ishan Kishan's selection. He was not in ODIs in New Zealand but has been picked ahead of Samson for Bangladesh ODIs. Samson doesn't get matches. The guy who replaced Samson in the second ODI - Hooda - is not in the squad for Bangladesh ODIs. Who are the all-rounders there? Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar. If you can't find space for Hooda here then there's a bit of a problem. What are the selectors doing?" he said.

India currently trailing 0-1 in the three-match series. The second ODI was a no result due to rain, making the third ODI in Christchurch on Wednesday a decider.

Born in the wrong era.
Still can play as a specialist bat.

The Indian version of Brad Haddin, can't play as long as Gilchrist is there.

I feel sorry for him and feel he's from a certain region and doesn't have backing from higher ups hence his non selection. This is an Indian and pak thing. No merit at all

Maiden ODI century for Sanju Samson.

He has scored 108 (114)

What a tremendous century by Sanju, his first in international cricket and a knock to remember in the series decider against South Africa in 3rd ODI

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, while speaking to reporters in an interaction arranged by local Indian media, explained why he wants Sanju Samson to bat in the middle order for India. He stated:

"I prefer to have Sanju in the middle order because he has a lot of shots. He plays those pick-up shots against pacers from the length. Hopefully, he performs well in the IPL too before the selectors sit down to select the team for the T20 World Cup. So, it is a good chance for Sanju against Afghanistan, and he can be our X-Factor in the World Cup."

"Sanju has made a wonderful hundred against South Africa recently. He is captain material as his mind is always ticking while on the field. We have some very good options for the wicketkeeper-batter role -- KL Rahul, Jitesh Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Pant whenever he comes back after getting fit."

Sanju Samson has had an intriguing journey so far, while speaking to local media:

"When you are playing cricket in the world's best country... India is no.1 in the world... the number of players, the number of talent, and the competitions we have... a guy from Kerala. If he has to come and cement his place in the national side, he has to do something special."

"I always wanted to stand out with the way I bat... create my own style. No matter if it's the first ball, I wanted to go out there and hit a six. That was the shift in the mindset. I wanted to do something different. Why do we have to wait for ten balls to hit a six? That was the motive behind the development of my power-hitting."

"I put in a lot of effort during Covid times, a lot of people helped me. I'm very happy, things are coming on nice. The grind keeps on going, I'm never satisfied. I just want to go on and keep doing something spectacular for the side that I play for."

Fifty up for RR's captain Sanju Samson! Another superb innings by Sanju in the first match of the season against LSG in IPL 2024. He's started on a high! I view his productive shot as a flick, in which he has shown 90 percent control.

Sanju Samson-powered Rajasthan Royals posted 193/4 against LSG in the IPL. He remained unbeaten on 82 off 52, delivering a captain's knock.

Sanju Samson crossed the 4000-run mark in the IPL, becoming the 16th cricketer to achieve this feat. RR's captain reached this milestone during the match against RCB in IPL 2024.

He seems to be pretty chill captain. Working wonders for RR.

I am slowly becoming his fan. Excellent behind the wickets, excellent middle order batsman and a very good captain.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram took a trip down the memory lane and recalled the time when bowled in nets to Sanju Sasmon during a Kolkata Knigth Riders (KKR) training camp. He said during an interview with digital sports media platform:

"I think this incident happened in 2010. I remember KKR had a black kit in 2010. They changed to purple in 2011. So we organized a camp before IPL. Not at Eden Gardens, but on another ground. So there were few bowlers only available for the camp. Sanju Samson came in to bat. He was a very shy boy then. He used to be silent, and his wicketkeeping skills were great. Then, he came to bat as well."

"So, I took the ball, and I hope Sanju you remember this. Sanju will remember this. I beat him with a couple of outswingers. I was also young at that time. The third ball I bowled an inswinger and rattled his stumps. So I went and did like this (shows the sendoff he gave by swinging his finger)."

"At that time, he did not get a chance, but I felt that he had the potential to become a good player in the future. He was silent. He was a young kid. When big names are around you, you tend to come under pressure. I was with him for a short time only, but I got that feeling that he can become a good player."

A few years ago he had a fan following similar to Fawad alam's when he was being ignored for the Indian team. I remember every post on Indian cricket twitter used to have Sanju die hards shilling his potential. Good to see him doing well in IPL and getting some recognition now. It seems he's a good guy who may never become India's preferred choice.

The neglected batter, Sanju Samson finally makes his way into the Indian WC squad 2024. A big moment for the RR captain.

Hope it didn't cost his odi chances, i believe odi is his best format...

Sanju Samson feels more like an Ahmed Shahzad of India. He has done everything to get selected in the Indian national team but still hasn't been picked.

Today once again he scored a magnificent 86 off 46 deliveries making the huge chase much easier for his team but I m sure he still won't receive the appreciation he deserves.

It's probably out (don't know) but that way too quick give that out.. for a wide review they take lot of times and multiple angles but here just two angles too quick, didn't zoomed and didn't rechecked it.. this year's ipl umpiring (tv umpires too) is very poor tbh..
true!

it must have been checked from all the angles before giving it out.

That wicket of Samson cost Rajhastan this match.

Isn't he in the squad? For the wc,

Isn't he in the squad? For the wc,
He is. He should have been part of world cup, 2023. But biased Mumbai Indians captain backed SKY who was totaly unfit for ODI. averaging 57 at a strike rate of 100 in ODIs. Yet booted out because of his indifferent form T20 internationals.

What a knock this was by Sanju ! Amazing seamless hitting. But will warm the Ind bench for the T20 WC as TM will prefer the "experienced" Pant . Pant doesnt deserve to be in the Ind T20 squad. Even Ishan Kishan is above him . Pant has been a poor T20 batter for a long time

Sanju's inning was a treat to watch especially when he started his inning but later he got a bit slow mainly because wickets started to fall at the other end. He would have won this game had the other guys supported him but still, it was a good inning.

I think he should play ahead of Pant in T20 WC.

New Chapter In Sanju Samson Dismissal Row: Rajasthan Royals Skipper Punished By BCCI, Fined

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson was fined 30 per cent of his match fees following a heated argument with the on-field umpires during the IPL 2024 match against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday. Controversy erupted over Samson's dismissal after he was caught in the deep by Shai Hope but the fielder was too close to the stumps. The third umpire ruled in DC's favour but Samson was not pleased with the decision and he ended up having an argument with the match officials. The replays showed that the fielder was very close to the ropes and the decision left the fans and experts divided.

"Mr Sanju Samson, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024," the official statement read.

"Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," it further stated.

Coming to the match, Samson's dismissal proved to be pivotal as DC kept their IPL 2024 dreams alive with a win over RR, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel slammed half-centuries to take DC past 200 and a disciplined bowling attack made sure that RR felt well short of the target.

"The way our bowlers executed at the back end was the main positive and it was really good to see. We will try to learn from every game. Even when we lose or win, we will keep our head down and keep moving forward. As always Kuldeep delivered which was great to see. It was close to par and at the same time we were thinking that if we can restrict them to 200 that would be fair and that was the thought process," DC captain Rishabh Pant said after the match.

Tbf to Sanju, he was very poor before the wc 2023. He improved now 100%, but he had poor form.

Yes SKY did not warrant a place over him I agree, but sanju has only made a strong case after wc drop. Rn he 100% deserves it on merit and on form he's 100x superior to KL Rahul as a t20 bat.

Not in ODIs though. He was dropped for his T20 form. Another reason is, Rahul is from the same state as Rahul Dravid. He even sat Pant out when he was fit for KL Rahul. Then he made sure there were no other keepers competing with Rahul. That is another thing.
