[VIDEOS] Surya Kumar Yadav: The best T20 batter in Asia currently

I disagree. I would choose pant and force pant to adapt to t20. He is mentally strong. Pure match winner. This guy is a jabroni. A fraud.

Pant is gold. He is atg calibre player.
I don't think SKy's issue is mental. His game involves risks. I don't mind someone getting out while playing attacking shot. He tried to clearly square boundary off side against Rashid. Got the toe end. He tried. Same way tried to scoop over third man against Pakistan. As long as intent is shown no problem with odd failures. My problem with players who don't show intent, stat pad. Pant shows intent. But he rarely makes connection. His game is stuck in this format hence a very poor strike rate of 126. He can be mentally strong. But if he doesn't connect the ball that hardly helps us.

Brilliant innings of 78 (53) from Suryakumar Yadav comes to an end against PBKS in IPL 2024. By the way, it was an off performance from him so far.

After playing a crucial hand in PBKS's downfall in IPL 2024, Surya Kumar Yadav opened up about his fitness and said during the mid-innings interview:

"It is going really well I am almost there I have started fielding I am also training well so slow and steady hoping that all 40 overs I will be on ground."

"That teaches you there are ups and downs in life."

"Nothing as much there was a talk going on. Last day we had a batters meeting that there will be a batter who will have to bat at least 15 to 17 overs because when we had a net session we felt that wicket will be a little difficult to get big runs on the board. But I just wanted to be myself. I took a little bit of more time today and after Rohit got out there had to be a batter who batted a little more I just continued the way I bat."

With strict diet plan, fitter Surya shed 15 kg post surgery to get in shape for World T20

New York, Suryakumar Yadav is looking leaner and fitter than ever since his comeback to competitive cricket and much of it could be attributed to a regimented diet plan along with rigorous strength training to cut at least 12-14 kg he had gained after sports hernia surgery.

World's No. 1 T20 batter Suryakumar was out of competitive cricket for close to four months after undergoing an ankle operation in December last, followed by a sports hernia surgery.

For an elite sportsperson, coming back to peak fitness is always a challenge and a strict diet plan is foundation to that.

"If you look at him, he is looking much leaner and stronger and little muscular, and diet was planned with supplementation to achieve that goal. Coordination between recovery rate and muscle gain rate, so we adjusted to achieve that in record time," dietitian Shwetha Bhatia, founder of 'Mind Your Fitness', who has worked on Suryakumar's nutrition for some time, told PTI during an interaction.

"Overall by now, 14-15 kg, there was slight increase in his weight after surgery, which is a natural medical reaction not because he was off diet," Bhatia explained.

"Out of 15 kg that he shed, Dexa machine will confirm that 13 kg will be fat," she added.

At the National Cricket Academy , there is a Dexa machine to check a player's body composition and that gives break-up of amount of muscle mass gain and fat loss and amount of abdominal fat.

A strict diet plan in place

As much as one indulges in rigorous S&C training, one needs to also keep an eye on diet and that's where Bhatia came into the picture.

"Post his injury, we made his diet plan a bit stricter, because when there is no activity, you don't increase food directly like that but there was more focus on his recovery with vitamin supplements," she said.

"He was at National Cricket Academy, more strength training was incorporated so that he has a better comeback. We don't get into his rehab programme but we need to co-ordinate with NCA in terms of his recovery rate because if it is going slow then it is falling short somewhere. "Mutually it was agreed that strength training would be the focus and cricketers don't get a lot of time for strength training when the season is on and usually get time when matches are not happening and mostly they practice their core skills."

More than calories, normally the amount of protein, carbs and fat that the athlete needs is computed. In recovery phase, the athlete needs an increase in the calorie intake and specially the protein has to match, because activity levels go up.

"The calories are increased keeping in mind that you don't want fat gain to happen during that period, to make sure muscle mass is maintained," Bhatia explained.

So, how was Suryakumar's meal structure?

"Basically, he was on three-meal structure and three went on to became four, when activity resumed.

"All meals had good quality protein like eggs, meat or fish and he is not fond of dairy products and that was excluded. When activity was much lesser, we had reduced the amount of carbohydrates, grains, dals were lesser, it was low carb diet.

"He doesn't eat rice and uses substitute flour for his rotis. He eats nuts and seed based low carb flours. Vegetable and fluid intakes were high with soups and chaanch. Nuts and avocados based on availability was also in his plan."

While speaking on a local sports channel, Harbhajan Singh expressed his belief that Suryakumar Yadav could be India's game-changer in the tournament, citing his ability to score big runs once he gets settled in the innings:

"I think Suryakumar Yadav is someone who could be a game-changer for India throughout this tournament. Even though, he didn't get going the other day. But Suryakumar Yadav, when he plays those 10 or 15 balls, he will probably score those winning runs for team India. At any position, he will go on to bat, he will play for the team. So, for me, Suryakumar Yadav would be the biggest game changer for team India in this World Cup.”

Surya Kumar Yadav is usleless against Pakistan. Its best to drop him and get Jaiswal in

In an interaction with an Indian media house, Kamran Akmal, a former cricketer, has questioned Suryakumar Yadav's abilities, challenging his credentials on the eve of the India-Pakistan clash:

“Virat Kohli is on top. Second is Suryakumar Yadav. His performance against Pakistan is yet to come, but I will still pick him. Rohit Sharma has already proved himself and has scored runs against Pakistan in ICC events, and now it is Suryakumar Yadav's turn. If he is No. 1, then he should come and score against Pakistan. He hasn't scored big runs against Pakistan whenever he has come to bat. However, he has scored a lot of runs against other teams. He is a classy player and a 360-degree player. It is a treat to watch him bat. He has cemented his place in a very short period of time.”

Take a look at Surya Kumar Yadav's numbers against the Pakistan in T20Is:

SKY records against teams ranked lower than 8th have been great

Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is

Top 8 ranked teams: 50 inns, 1916 runs, 42.6 avg, 167 SR, 14 fifties, 4 centuries
Teams ranked lower than 8th: 10 inns, 284 runs, 71.0 avg, 180 SR, 4 fifties

It's great vs both actually.

I don't think he is the best T20 batter in Asia currently.

Jaiswal and Pant are better than him.

Solid knock and practically rescued India after the opening duds failed predictably.

Suryakumar Yadav is no longer the No. 1 T20I batter in the latest ICC rankings, but he may have a chance to regain the top spot if he performs exceptionally well against England in the semi-finals.

Sky is overrated, True finisher of Asia is Chacha
@Rana I'm dead serious bro.

Sky hasn't yet finished off pakistan, the one stain on his career.

Chacha destroys pakistan for a living. Rizwan + Babar + Shadab + Chacha. No one smacks pakistan better then these 4.

Suryakumar Yadav details 'special bond' with Gautam Gambhir ahead of Sri Lanka series

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav spoke of his equation with new India head coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of the Sri Lanka series.

Nearly a month after the title win at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, India embark on a new journey in the shortest format of the game with the upcoming bilateral series in Sri Lanka.

With a new head coach (Gautam Gambhir) and a new skipper (Suryakumar Yadav), India are forging a fresh unit in this format with the next major event just a couple of years away. The retirement of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja has forced India to field a fresh-looking side in T20Is, but the skipper brushed aside any concerns regarding the replacements.

"It will be difficult to fill the shoes, but obviously people have practiced so much, new players have come, they are already doing well when they play franchise cricket," Suryakumar said in a joint press conference ahead of the series.

"And the matches they played for India, they have done very well in that too. So I have a lot of trust in those three, who have just come in their place, that they will do well."

Speaking of captaincy, the middle-order batter said that it was like a dream come true for him to lead the Indian side.

Three years since his debut in the format, Suryakumar has not only risen to the top rungs of the batting rankings in T20Is but also now been given the chance to lead the side.

"Every player's dream is to represent India, to do good for India," he explained. "So that was my first dream. When it is going well, then gradually you think how you can win India in a big tournament, you can win matches.

"Then another goal comes that if you ever become the captain of India, then it remains in your dream that if you become the captain, then how will you win India after playing against good teams. So this is also another dream that has come true. And it feels good."

Speaking highly of Rohit Sharma's influence, Suryakumar said that the former captain was a true leader of the team.

"I always think that what I have learned from Rohit Sharma, he was always like a leader on the ground and off the field. He was not like a captain. There is a lot of difference in both. There was a leader who was standing in the middle of the group, and he showed people the way, how to play this T20 cricket and how to win the tournament."

India will also have fresh faces in the coaching staff along with Gambhir – Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar, who have also been roped into the setup.

Speaking about his equation with Gambhir, under whom he played in the IPL in his early days, Suryakumar stated that the duo shared a 'special bond'.

"Our bond has always been special," the skipper said, speaking about his relationship with Gambhir.

"From 2014 till now, it has been exactly 10 years. In 2018, I joined another [IPL] franchise and he joined another franchise. But we used to talk regularly about the game. When he used to play with another team, I used to play with him. We used to discuss the game to see if we could do better in that match.

"The learning has been going on since six years when I was not with him. This bond is always special. We have talked a lot, but not so much. But he knows my body language. When I see his body language, I know what he wants to say to me. And what I want to say to him. When I say no, he understands what he wants and what I want. So this bond is very special between coach and captain. I am very excited for this journey ahead of me."

The class of Suryakumar Yadav

Currently batting at Strike rate of 260.00 against Sri Lanka in 1st T20I

Suryakumar Yadav has equaled Virat Kohli's record for the most Player of the Match (POTM) awards in T20Is, achieving this feat in just 69 matches, while Kohli took 125 matches to reach the same number. Kohli's last POTM award came in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, after which he retired from T20I cricket.

The top five players with the most POTM awards in T20Is are Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli (India) with 16 each, followed by Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe) with 15, and Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan) and Rohit Sharma (India) with 14 each.

Notably, Yadav has achieved this milestone in significantly fewer matches compared to the other players on the list.

Match winner!

Incredible record and he’s done it against all.

In an Indian all time T20I XI, he has secured his spot ahead of Rahul, Pant etc.

Rohit
Kohli
Raina
SKY
Yuvi
MSD
Pandya

All of them are World Cup winners/ performers.

What a player this guy is.

Most Player of the Series awards in T20Is:

7 - Virat Kohli (125 Matches)
5 - Suryakumar Yadav (71 Matches)
5 - Shakib Al Hasan (129 Matches)
5 - David Warner (110 Matches)

Speaking to the media after the match, Washington Sundar reckons captain Suryakumar Yadav's bold leadership and strategic risk-taking helped India secure a thrilling win in the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka:

"It's amazing of him, amazing of his leadership skills, to be honest. With 12 balls to go and 12 runs needed, he brought in Rinku, especially with Kusal Perera batting, and Rinku got him out. Surya then came in for the last over and won the game for us."

"We all know he has a big heart when he bats, but he also shows it in his leadership. All credit goes to him; it was amazing."

"Surya kept telling us that one or two wickets in the middle overs would change the game, especially in low-scoring matches where even run-a-ball situations can create pressure."

"I hope the audience enjoyed the game because you don't often see such matches. It feels great to be a part of this kind of game."

"Honestly, I had no idea I would bowl, but after the batsmen walked out, Surya turned to me and said, 'Washy, you're on.' I was very happy; it's a great opportunity to step up and win the game for my country. Thank God things went well."

Dont think anyone doubts this now.

The real interesting question is who's the second best T20 batter in Asia right now?

Yashaswi Jaiswal? Babar Azam? Rahmanullah Gurbaz?

Gurbaz is probably no 2 now that Rohit and Kohli have retired.

He's climbed up the tanks and has become a consistent and gun opener for Afghanistan. However girbaz needs to learn how to play under pressure and against India.

He completely switches himself off against India and During knockout games

Suryakumar, while speaking to the local media on his return to red-ball cricket:

"I will be playing Buchi Babu tournament. It will give me a good practice session before the domestic season starts. I will join the team after the 25th. I'm always available to play for Mumbai and club team whenever free."

"He has informed us that he is available to play in the Buchi Babu tournament and his name will be added to the Mumbai side. Surya has always turned up for Mumbai cricket whenever he is available. He is one of the few players who turn up for club matches in Mumbai maidans."

Suryakumar Yadav's Test comeback takes big hit after massive injury scare in Buchi Babu match ahead of series against Bangladesh

Star batter's Suryakumar Yadav's aspirations of returning to the Indian Test team have faced a setback due to a hand injury sustained during the Buchi Babu tournament. The injury has cast doubt on his participation in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, a crucial tournament for making a case for selection in the Indian Test squad.

Yadav had viewed the Buchi Babu tournament and the Duleep Trophy as opportunities to showcase his skills and stake his claim for a Test comeback. However, his injury has disrupted his plans and may hinder his chances of being included in India's long Test season, which includes five Tests at home and five away. The injury occurred during Yadav's match against TNCA XI in the Buchi Babu competition, where he scored a low 30. Given the nature of the injury, it is uncertain whether he will be able to recover in time for the Duleep Trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav suffered a hand injury during Mumbai's group-stage match against TNCA XI in the Buchi Babu tournament. The injury occurred on the third day of the match while fielding in TNCA XI's second innings. Yadav was positioned at leg slip when Pradosh Ranjan Paul, a left-handed batsman, flicked a leg-stump delivery from Musheer Khan towards him. Yadav attempted to stop the ball but was struck on the hand by the bouncing ball.

Immediately after being struck by the ball, Suryakumar Yadav winced in pain and shook his hand. He held his injured hand tightly and appeared to be in considerable discomfort. His teammates alerted the medical staff, who attended to him on the field. Following treatment, Yadav was forced to leave the field. Yadav did not return to bat in Mumbai's second innings, which resulted in their dismissal for 223 runs and a defeat by 286 runs. As of now, there has been no official statement from the Mumbai Cricket Association regarding the severity of Yadav's injury. It will be interesting to see whether he will be able to participate in the Duleep Trophy.

Surya can take it easy. He has no chance of breaking into text XI - no prospect of a vacancy opening up soon and too many candidates ahead of him in the queue.

For the home tests, the batting line-up is pretty much decided.

Yashashvi
Rohit
Gill
Kohli
KL
Pant

Jurel, Sarfaraz, Iyer are all standing ahead in the queue.

If Surya doesn't get a look in for home tests then forget about playing away.

SKY is probably the first Asian established top order batter who shelved ego and obsession with numbers/milestones while focusing on impact creation and middle overs boundary access. Simply put he is a difference maker.

His approach to batting is the template for all next gen #3-#6 batters in India, Pak, Bang, SL to follow.

Suryakumar Yadav speaking to the local media:

“Aapne googly daal diya (laughs) (You put me in a spot with a wrong 'un). Really enjoying this new role (as India captain). When I was playing under Rohit bhai's captaincy in MI, I used to give my inputs whatever I felt at that time.”

"For India also feeling good. I captained against Sri Lanka previously against Australia and South Africa also. I have learnt from other captains on how to take the team forward. Aage dekhte hain. Chalte rahta hain. Baaki aapko pata toh chal hee jayega (Let's see how it goes. Rest you will know in due course of time).”

“It can only be good if we can get couple of overs from the batters. In this squad most of them can bowl. We saw that in Sri Lanka as well. If you have the skill why not.”

Icc rankings are a joke, where did sky come to no.2?

Rizwan has been racking runs but sky is ranked above him?

ICC player rankings were always big jokes.

ICC needs to fix it. It needs to consider different factors.

A total failure vs Pakistan in all formats so there is no reason for Pakistani fans to rate this Chinese De Villiers.

Yeah, loved his approach in the 2023 World Cup final. He probably killed all the flies in Ahmedabad. :klopp

You think it should also add being part of the Ummah factor?

It should consider factors like strengths of opponents, whether it was an ICC event or a bilateral etc.

ICC ranking was once showing Namibia's JJ Smit was a better all-rounder than Rashid Khan. Faulty ranking.

Babar’s innings vs India in 2021 is bigger than Surya’s entire career.
Yes Surya with a T20 wc.

His innings against USA will be biggest of his carreer. 44(43) balls in T20. Legend has it that US bowlers couldn’t sleep after that phainty.

Didn’t you say if the team doesn’t win the WC that one game doesn’t matter? Now you changed your tunes again.

Babar is part of the CT winning squad that nuked India by 180 runs which is still, and probably will forever remain the biggest whooping any team has ever suffered in an ICC final.

He or any Pakistani fan will not trade that history for the 2024 T20 WC.

Only WCs matter CT we don’t care we have two of them.
You can enjoy , just like you make up stuff, we care about only WCs and Wt20, we focus on those.

I just know PCT lost to Indian coders thanks to Babar Azam’s amazing 44(43)

CT don’t matter at all until it is time to flex Dhoni’s trophy count to prove that he is the GOAT captain.

Sky has been one of the softest players of recent times. A lot of runs and impactful runs but only in meaningless bilaterals.

He has failed in other two formats and has yet to stamp a remarkable meaningful innings in his favorite T20I format. Which is something you would expect from a player who has been hailed as the next or even better than AB de Villiers.

Heck even Babar and Rizwan have match winning 50s against India in a T20 World Cup game.

Don’t care about Dhoni, he has a Wt20 and WC.. you can remove the CT , ppl in India didn’t give much fuss about that win anyway.

India has forgotten about Dhoni, we are looking forward, you are the one talking about 2017,2021.

You look back when there is something to look back. Babar has not been very successful with the bat vs India but he has still played one mighty innings and is the only Pakistani captain to date that has managed to shut Indian mouths after a World Cup match.

From Pakistani perspective, it is difficult to rate someone like Surya who has been nothing but a resounding failure vs Pakistan across both formats over multiple years.

If Indians want to make him sit on their heads, please do so, but don’t expect Pakistani to do the same when he folds every time he plays Pakistan.

Same reason why it is difficult for Pakistani fans to consider Tendulkar the god of batting or whatever when he averages a middling 42 vs Pakistan in Test cricket.

If he was that good he should have matched his career average vs Pakistan especially when almost all of these Tests were played in batting friendly conditions.

If i were to pick an Indian team he would be the first in my list. This impact smimpact are all subjective. He is still the most dangerous batsman in the side. Made a crucial 47 in the semi final.

India has more “GOATs” than a bakra mandi on Eid.

GOAT Asian Test team
GOAT batsman (Tendulkar)
GOAT white ball batsman (Kohli)
GOAT bowler (Bumrah)
GOAT captain (Dhoni)
GOAT T20I captain (Rohit)
GOAT T20I batsman (Surya)

I hope didn’t missing any. Forgive me if I did.

Jai Hind. 🐐

Nobody, in India, or the world, really cares about a Pakistani perspective on SKY. End of.

We don't need to!

The opinions of delusional fans are about as relevant as a broken bat in a cricket match.

Nobody really cares about your opinions, your perspectives, or your endless whining. It's like listening to a broken record that's stuck on the same annoying tune, post India's T20 world cup win.

Sensible opinions for Indians = licking Indian backsides and feeding their delusions.
Which you were quite happy to do only a few months ago!

But since that is in the past, and this is the new "you", it's not exactly rocket science to guess what your response to any Indian poster's comment is going to be these days.

You are only downgrading your own worth, as a forum veteran, in the process.

Approximately 10-11 balls per six

Excellent

Only Dre Rus (7 balls per six) and Even lewis (9 balls per six) has better balls/six ratio at this point. Among Indians Rohit 15 balls/ KL Rahul 16 balls/ Kohli 25 balls
