Picked for the national squad. To think he wasn't even picked in the initial PSL draft.

I think he replaced Naseem Shah.

So if Naseem had been fit he could have made it to the Pak side instead of Hasnain.

All about fate.
 
Nothing to take away from Hasnain, but Naseem Shah would have had the entry that Amir had in international cricket had he played this PSL and made it to the national team. The lad bowls 145-154kph and swings it both ways

Does it really matter ? As long as he is a Pakistani and not willing to move to Aus for a better career its all good I guess.
 
How times change, there were days when the likes of Shoaib, Lee, Bond were clocking 150kph multiple times an over - now we are overjoyed at seeing a bowler reach 150 once in a whole tournament.. but then given the recent trend of 135kph ‘speedsters’ in Pakistan, can fully understand the excitement.

No one in the world can currently clocks even in the early 150ks consistently, shoaib, Lee, Tait, Zahid were different breed.

Talent Spotter : Mohammad Hasnain (Clocks 151kph at PSL)

A seriously capable and talented youngster is Hasnain. Now that the PSL has concluded, here are the guys who I´d like to mention have impressed me from amongst the emerging players.

From amongst the batsmen, there were only two, Ahsan Ali (of Quetta) and Siddiq (of Multan). Both are good strikers of the ball and may come in handy in the national T20 team. Sohail Akhtar (of Lahore) is another but he has been there since a few seasons from what I remember and has blown hot and cold quite often in each edition.

Hasnain(from Quetta) obviously, and Haris Rauf (from Lahore) are of course the fast bowlers who impressed the most. I´m very inclined towards Haris because his discipline and control too has impressed me. Musa (from Islamabad) isn´t bad either but he needs to be played a little more before we can say anything about him. Umer Khan (of Karachi) takes the prize from amongst the spinners, easily.

So these are the players who I think can play for the national team one day, especially the bowlers that I´ve mentioned.
 
Yeah hitting 150+ is all that matters, shouldn't worry about such trivial things such as picking up wickets or containing the run scoring.

I noticed that even at youth and lower levels of cricket, Hasnain doesn't have much of a wicket-taking record.

There's a lot to work with, but he has a lot to learn.

This. feel like we made a mistake in throwing him to deep end. Intl experience is one thing, he barely even has first class experience or A team experience. I would have taken Shinwari over him perhaps. Shinwari has been really hard done by , when they showed stats since 2017 he was our best bowler. at least we would then expect that if between Hassan, Shinwari, Wahab if each one has 1-2 outstanding spell days then you could perhaps win 5-6 games that way. with Hasnain I haven't got feeling he can take few wickets, or even do containing, he is all over the place and releases pressure every time.

Actually speed is relevant when you cant swing, otherwise in todays cricket 83 mph bowlers will be smashed all over the world.
 
If someone has speed and if he is 18 years old, fast track him and keep a special eye on him. I don't want another Mohd Zahid who was lost to the system.

It’s not irrelevant. Genuine pace is a talent that can’t be taught
Other skills you mention can be acquired obviously it’s another thing whether Hasnain will be able to acquire them or not

Definitely needs to be with the team

I think half his issues are would be sorted be making his run up better

Sami made a decade long career on the promise of learning other skills while possessing basic ingredient of pace. This lad seems to be another one from the same school of bowling.


If other skills could be learnt every Tom, Dick or Harry would have been seaming and swinging the ball.

Sami had genuine talent too. He even had swing too just lacked the temperament for international cricket

Everyone can get fooled by amount of talent Sami had

I never said Hasnain is a world beater or will become one but he definitely has genuine pace and needs to be provided all the possible facilities and coaching to go Waqar/Shoaib way rather than Sami. If he doesn’t improve we will know and can discard him but lots to work on for now

I never said everyone can learn the skills
 
As with most things the truth is somewhere in the middle and not at at the extremes.

Pace is important. Always has been and will continue to be. Just like accuracy, ability to move the ball or ability to bowl at the death. Bowlers cant survive just by being good at one aspect. you need to master more than a few in order to be effective.You cant make it just by being quick , youll be tonked around,the same way an accurate bowler with no zip is going to get smashed around in modern cricket. do you think Steyn would have been this effective had he been bowling at 135 instead of 145 at his prime?..or Rabada ..or Starc.

Im seriously stoked to see this teenager.. Bowling at over 90mph on average at 19 years of age is no joke. we are not talking about someone occasionally bowling a very fast ball, this is someone who is genuinely fast..Watson and Pollard were understandably impressed.. proper fitness training along with growth of muscle mass means it wouldnt be far fetched to assume he can be bowling at 150km/hr on average once hes 25. that is serious serious pace. Right alongside the likes of Lee, Akhtar and we know individuals with those ability come once or twice a generation at best.

He obviously needs to learn to consistently pitch it in the right areas, develop a yorker, slower balls etc. Thats a no brainer...and once he does that, hed be lethal.

I share the concern of some others who think hes been thrown into the deep end too soon. He will be bowling to formidable batting lineups almost every match on pitches where 350 is only a par score.. and he doesnt have the experience to bank on if hes taken to the cleaners. Worse still, none of his fellow ''senior'' bowling partners are there to support him. Amir, Hasan and Wahab are all clueless at the moment.

If he can keep fit, then in 6 years time I think he can break it. I don't think a bowler this young has ever bowled this quick.

This is nothing new. Shoaib, Waqar, Zahid were all bowling rapid from their first class debut, that's why they were picked up so early.
 
I'm glad that Waqar will be around to guide these young bowlers. Unless we get some Aussie or Saffer, he's the best coach available.
 
Just watched his 2nd spell.

In comparison to his stint in the PSL, he looked confident ie was talking to himself when walking back.

I know T20s don’t help much but for someone like Hasnain who has hardly any game experience - these pressure games will only enhance his development.
 
Had a question for any fast bowling coaches/experts here. The kid seems to grunt regularly when he delivers the ball. Clearly he seems to be generating pace via his back rather than through a smooth rhythmic action. I think the emphasis on generating pace is also taking his concentration of length and swing.

My question was, if Waqar were to tweak his action and run up to better his accuracy and ability to swing the ball, what is the trade off in pace? Would it be a large drop off in pace?

Even the balls that are low 140s or high 130s are rushing the batsmen, so he's bowling quite a heavy ball and hitting the deck hard which is exactly what Pakistan needs in Australia.
 
the spell in second game was much improved hussnain.. apart from 3 balls, that went eventually for 6, giving too much width, he was on target.... on and about 4th stump or within stumps... bowled well to DreRussel , shld have got his wicket... bowled with speed.. geniune speed... arguing abt his age is stupid bcz doesnt matter if he is 18-19-20-21 bcz he is young, good build, very good height (didint look like a baby in front of pollard and pollard is a giant lol ) ... he is def a good one for future...

They obviously started to work later on and Hasnain clocked 155 kph. Your thoughts on that? Akhtar’s record in danger if this kid can stay away from injuries.
 
Bowling that quick at his age is seriously impressive.

Might even overtake Akhtar's 161.
 
He has the potential to become a good bowler he just needs a bit of experience.I hope Waqar can polish his skills.

Zahid wasn't lost in the system, he was perpetually injured.

Consistently bowling 87-90+ which is great to see. Hit 150+ a couple of times in that highlight pack too.
 
He looked the quickest in the first match and he probably hit 150 a few times, but there were no speedguns.
 
For a genuine quickie you need to hit 150k plus atleast 3/4 times in a t20 and atleast 7/8 times in an odi, i guess he will get there in an year i hope.
 
He has speed but that’s about it.

Lacks the ability to read the batsman’s weak points or the game situation. Neither is he a natural wicket taking bowling/ so swing either.

Needs to work on a lot of things to be established at International level. Variations and Line and length.

A the moment I wouldn’t hold any expectations; needs game experience/exposure.
 
He definitely needs a new improved domestic season under his belt before getting another international game, he's far from ready but he should be with the national squad and can be played a game here there against minnows, definitely needs to learn how to pickup wickets and setup the batsmen plus skill wise he needs to learn Yorkers and outswing. Hopefully he will be ready in an years time
 
On the other hand Naseem Shah shall be fast track after this season and possibly before U19 worldcup he's more ready than Hasnain at the moment. The guy got perfect Yorker and can swing the ball both ways with reasonable accuracy plus post injury pace wise he's not far behind Hasnain as well

Needs to play more first class cricket to develop his bowling muscles and his accuracy.
