[VIDEOS] Talent Spotter : Shahnawaz Dahani

He is definitely not 6 '2.
Probably 6 at the most.
But he is extremely lanky, with an elongated bone structure.
This is why he still gets good bounce.

Yes due to his long arms his release will be at the same height of someone taller

Not even 6, he is skinny , hence looks taller but when standing next to Afridi , he was a bit short and Afridi is 5-10/11 I guess.

He is not shorter than Afridi. I can guarantee you that.
Afridi is 5'11, and Shahnawaz is around sn inch taller.

CricViz reporting he has the best ER in the powerplay in this PSL.

His seam will bring the ball back into right handers and away from left handers. If he can make it hold its line to right handers, he has the potential to be a decent bowler.

I’m a quarter inch shorter than 6 and Dhani looks two inches taller than me.

If Dhani is less than 5’10 then I should audition for the Pakistan team

He looked a couple inches shorter than Shan Masood, and he’s a legitimate 6’2.

I guess this has probably already been discussed but pleasantly surprised to see him click up to 145ks. Thought he would be 135ks max after viewing from the naked eye during QeA

Reminds me of a young Kemar Roach of 2010-11. Pretty smooth and effortless run up with good speed. Roach used to land accurate yorkers at good pace back then.

Takes the wickets of both Azam Khan and Ben Cutting in one over!

Very impressive player.

Quite favourably impressed by his interviews. He seems a lot more intelligent and level-headed than the average Pakistan player starting out.

This guy really has potential to go very far. It's not strictly relevant, but he's very likeable and I think he definitely has a spark/X-Factor about him, much like Hassan Ali, but he seems much more the fun-loving type than the intense angry Hasan (also one of my favourites).

Good attacking bowling from Dhani to pick up his wickets

This guy is going to be a tremendous bowler. Watch out for him.

His catapult release is how English coaches coach young English players. If i was him, i would ignore all the advice and bowl full and straight. He is natural inseam bowler and he needs to attack the stumps.

Yes, he has a great run up and action. He collapses a bit because he is too thin. With some more muscle on him, he will get more stable and even quicker.
As you said, he is a natural inswing bowler like Ishant but unlike the latter, he can also swing it away in red ball cricket.

To top everything off, unlike his competitors, he is an intelligent bowler with a fantastic temperament and character.

In such a short time, he has become a crowd favourite which illustrates that he is meant for the big stage.

Good post, lots to like and excellent prospect for all forms. Btw do you what happened to Amir Brophy( sp might be a problem), he had a really nice action and great outswing

Let him play 2 full seasons of first class then we'll judge how good he is.

Good thing about Dhani is he was the best young bowler in the recent QEA Trophy so he actually has FC experience unlike the randoms LQ pluck off the street and rush into PSL.

Dahani certainly enjoying his time at PSL6

Amir Brohi played with Dahani for Larkana. He had a great outswinger but he is not very quick.
Unfortunately I am not aware of where he is and whether he played the last grade 2 tournament or not.

Hasnain is officially 6.1 so Dhani is around 5.11

theres nothing wrong with his height, its only a problem if u are under 5'9 because ur bouncer generally tends to be telegraphed.

hope he keeps developing and getting a bit stronger.

i like Dhani and he his growing on me, love watching him bowl. He will get only better hopefully.

His height is fine around 6 feet half inch here or there our best pacer Imran was dot 6 and did quite well you don't need 6-4 to be a success that's just Junaids fantasy which has crept in some ppers mind.

Shahnawaz Dahani on his arrival in his hometown of Larkana, the residents of Larkana showered flowers on him.

But he is not wearing a mask. PSL just postponed due to Covid because of this careless attitude. Who is responsible?

Why are players out of quarantine so quickly?

I'm guessing not a single person told them that they should isolate after leaving PSL. This is clearly also too tough a brainteaser for some to figure out themselves.

Not sure anyone can really expect much from Dhani at international cricket if this is his level of intellect when it comes to COVID. He isn't even trying to distance himself or at least ensure that his actions aren't caught by cameras where he could face public ridicule. Total lack of awareness is shambolic but also really embarrasing.

Keep in mind helmet makes you look 2-3 inches taller.

Yea , But he is definitely taller than Afridi who is about almost height as me (slightly taller)and I am 5.10 exactly, Afridi may be 5.10/11 so it makes Dhani between 5.11 and 6ft.

Yeah you might be right, but I think they are the same height at least from this angle. Imo afridi is around 6’0”, Dhani seems to be the same.

Lack of awareness and a lack of education

Well Darren Sammy, former West Indian captain and 2 times World Cup winner is roaming around in shopping malls and grounds in Lahore.

ODI is the perfect format for young fast bowlers to debut, it is the easiest out of the all three formats. He should play against South Africa, he is much better Haris, and Musa. Groom him for 2023 WC,

LAHORE: Pakistan’s former cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja, in a Youtube video on Wednesday, suggested that Multan Sultans’ rising pace sensation Shahnawaz Dhani should focus on Test cricket. The 58-year-old believed that the young pacer had clarity of mind which helped his side whenever there was added pressure on them.

“Shahnawaz Dhani emerged from a small area and made his name in the Pakistan Super League. His body language was fantastic, was enjoying the fans’ response, and was temperamentally strong because whenever there was pressure on the team he was handed the ball. Many youngsters lose clarity but he had the clarity in his mind and there was no stage fright,” Raja said.

The former batsman believed his action and run-up would prove very useful in the longer format.

“He has a brilliant rhythmical run-up, conserves energy, and has a bit of round-arm action which is perfect for reverse swing bowling. He bowls on hard lengths which can be very useful for him in Test matches. Bowling speed is also good, handles pressure well, and has the presence of mind. I just hope that he has the understanding to think of Test cricket as his number one format and the rest of the formats come on second and third number,” he said.

Ramiz believed that Dhani had what it takes to win Pakistan matches in the future. “If he wants to make his name and Pakistan has to handle his talent, so both of them have to try that he plays Test cricket and he makes his name because I think he has the germs to win matches for Pakistan in the future. He only needs to take care of his fitness and give himself a good environment by making friends who can tell him that performance is more important than money. He can be a superstar in the future,” he said.

I agree with Ramiz, strange as it may sound. Dhani should do the hard yards in domestics and understand long form cricket, which helps build the craft of bowling.

2-3 years there, some A tours and then he can have a soft start in a home series against a smaller team.

My fear is, PCB will push him up fast, and ruin him.

I really like this kid - not just his bowling which is very promising but also the spirit with which he plays the game. He seems to be really enjoying himself which is great to see.

I do feel though that there needs to be some value placed on an international cap. Don't call him up for Pakistan after 4/5 T20 games in the PSL. Not to mention that it could go badly wrong, one bad over, 2 no balls, 4 wides and 3 sixes and that spirit could be shattered in an instant. He needs 2 years of consistent performing at FC and T20/PSL level.

Separate point but it's great to see such people get exposure and also earn some decent money and in that way the PSL has been great for Pakistan cricket.

He’s pretty old already. Genuine 22 years old. 1 more year of first class then straight to A team tours is my suggestion.

Thank god the selectors realised his strength is hitting a hard length in red ball cricket, not bowling six slower balls an over in T20.

The call up has come a tad quicker, but a guy of his quality is hard to ignore.

What he needs right now is to increase his food intake and build some muscle. He is extremely skinny at the moment and needs some strength and size to increase stability at the crease.

Once he adds atleast 15 pounds of muscle, he will become an extremely durable machine, because he has the mind of a workhorse.

Excellent addition i love his attitude to bowling and always has a smile on his face.credit to Wasim for picking him in the right format

Good to see another cricketer from minority community selected for Pakistan.

Wasim has indulged in some unexpected selections i.e first Haris Rauf for test matches and now Shahnawaz Dhani.

Has lots to offer at FC but short of 5 miles for the higher levels. Looks around 77mph and needs to be around 80-82 to be successful at the higher levels

Defonitely needs to work on his pace but he has the heights and can move the ball Defonitely one to watch out
