[VIDEOS] Talent Spotter : Shahnawaz Dahani

He is just a one trick pony bowler bowls short after short bowl that might work against Pakistani batsmen who are woeful against pacy short balls but in international cricket he might get found out. its the Imran Khan that has surprised everyone as a limited over bowler.

Bowlers have made careers out of that like Wagner and Wahab. Even archer is really only a short ball specialist but he’s considered by many to be the best bowler in the world..

It is not easy to negotiate a single trick like the one he has. He gets the ball to rise venomously from the good length area. And you know what’s coming but it takes skills to score off something like that.

Good speed - and can bowl short/bouncers. I can't fault him for this one trick because its working and cant put that against him. However, to succeed in Int. Cricket he should have a few more variations.

Good battle with Asif Ali.

Asif taking him on and smashing him for a six and four.

The short ball really is a weapon for him.

Impressive bowler.

20 wickets in PSL 6 so far.

Mixes the lengths pretty well while maintaining high pace. Economy has also improved in last few games but, his team wont look too much into his economy as far as he can provide them regular wickets in crucial moments.

I feel like he will work well with Shaheen and Hassan. Shaheen rarely uses bounce as a weapon while Hassan obviously can't. Dhani might be a bit one dimensional but his primary skillset might just slot in well.

The find of this PSL for certain. Got an opportunity and grabbed it with both hands

Dhani brilliant with the ball, and brilliant in the field.

We need to stop gassing up new players. I have seen the debuts/early matches of Asif, Amir, Akhtar...Danhi is not that calibre. Good luck to him.

Should he really have celebrated like that with his team about to lose? Of course he was happy but the smart thing to do would be to downplay it a bit.

It was a dead rubber/ both teams has qualified in 1 and 2 positions, and Islamabad had won the game a long time ago. If anything this suddenly gave them a glimmer of hope.

Perhaps watch the match instead of looking at the scorecard.

This is a fair point and i wasn't aware of this. Shame you let yourself down in the 2nd paragraph though.

Well I apologise, it’s just a lot of people here love to jump onto anything and be negative whether it’s not showing enough aggression or too much aggression.

The players are robots.

I learnt a long time ago it’s utterly pointless comparing players of different eras. Granted Dahani needs to play four day cricket before we can start considering him a great all round bowler but as things stand now, he is a very decent prospect for international white ball cricket. You can agree with my statement without comparing him with the likes of past greats of Pakistan..

In terms of speed, I was measured at 139 KpH in 2018 at the NCA and I do feel I can bowl faster than that.

Well he was bowling over 140kph regularly at the PSL, so he's one of those guys who has actually increased his pace.

He has the height and the pace to trouble batesman but he needs to work on his variations once he learns this then he will be deadly.

He just reminds me so much of Jason Gillespie.

Kamran Akmal who was well set at 25 odd looked like a tail ender when he was facing him in the 5th over.

I cannot believe that Dahani is not in Pak T20 squad going to Eng and WI.

A hero's welcome for Shahnawaz Dahani in Larkana

Thanks for sharing Sir. By the way I think his name needs to be amended in title as DAHANI instead of DHANI.

Yes we will look into that :)

Karachi: Emerging pacer Shahnawaz Dahani is likely to be included in the T20I squad for the series against England, ARY Sports reported.

According to sources, the selection committee led by Mohammad Wasim has agreed to include the 22-year-old pacer from Larkana and the efforts have been intensified to sent him to England.

If England’s logistics problems are not solved, Dahani will travel to the Caribbean where Green Shirts will play five T20Is against the world champions West Indies after the England series.

It must be noted that Dahani was the leading wicket-taker in the 2021 Pakistan Super League (PSL) with 20 wickets in 11 games. He is already in squad for Test series against West Indies.

I think this guy has potential for sure but I really hope he doesn't get selected now

We may have found another Shoaib Akhtar in Shahnawaz Dahani

Shahnawaz Dahani obviously has a bright future ahead of him. For someone who has just played one full First-class season so far to come to his first PSL and end up as the highest wicket-taker is absolutely incredible and speaks volumes about Dahani’s skills. He is a good learner, has a lot of energy, is an entertainer and is the kind of player that everyone wants in their dressing room or on the field where not only does he enjoy his own game but can lift the spirits of the team with his positive attitude and body language. One cannot say now that he is a complete bowler as he has more to learn but I would say that he has all the abilities and skills which tell me that he will become a very good asset for Pakistan in the future. He definitely has the ability to bowl at good speeds but he will need to work on his line and length and learn to pitch the ball up for more success. One of the best qualities about Dahani’s bowling is that he can bowl inswing which is essential if you wish to take wickets. Outswing may be pleasant to the eye but remember it’s inswing which will get you more wickets as that gives the bowler many more ways of getting a batsman out. So Dahani has to work on variations in his bowling, but he is improving very quickly. If you compare his bowling in the first phase of the tournament, he was bowling short and getting wickets. In the second phase, he started to pitch the ball up a bit more and we also worked on his wrist position at point of delivery which really helped him out. And I am not kidding when I say we may have found another Shoaib Akhtar in Shahnawaz Dahani - in terms of bowling speed and his attitude.

And he even has his own Emoji!

:Dah

: Dah if you wish to use.

Oh please! Shoaib was quicker, unique personality, proven and a very intelligent bowler. Why do we compare these newbys to current established / past cricketers?

We have a better and more capable bowler included on the plane

His Highness Sir Usman Wahla

I am sure he will outperform Dahani in every field, will run faster- master blaster

Would have been great to get a front on angle.

Karachi: Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise St Lucia Zouks is in talks with emerging Pakistani pacer Shahnawaz Dahani to play this year, ARY Sports reported.

Darren Sammy, who is the head coach of St Lucia Zouks have services of two Pakistan cricketers Wahab Riaz and Usman Qadir for the ninth edition of CPL, scheduled to start from August 28.

The 22-year-old Dahani will be in the Caribbean as he is part of Test squad for Pakistan-West Indies two-match Test series, starting from August 12.

The Multan Sultans’ Head Coach Andy Flower has heaped praise on pacer Shahnawaz Dahani after the latter’s impressive performance in the sixth season of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Dahani finished the tournament with the most wickets, 20, and was instrumental in leading his team towards their maiden HBL PSL title.
“It was his [Dahani] attitude towards the game, despite being his first really high-profile cricket experience, that really stood out. He played the game with a broad smile on his face but was serious when he needed to be. I think other cricketers also enjoyed seeing his attitude in the field and I think he inspired the people that were watching him on TV back in Pakistan and, if I boldly say, perhaps around the world,” said Flower.

“He has also got a heart of gold and he wants the best for his team and his teammates. He’s also very respectful of the people around, although he plays the fool sometimes but he is no fool as he understands what's happening around him. He was a really invaluable member of our side in all sorts of ways,” he added.

Flower also lauded Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy despite a torrid start to the tournament, when they lost four out of their first five games.

“He obviously led from the front of the player as a player but he also captained well. Being decisive when he needed to be decisive and showing belief after we had a really tough start in Karachi. I thought he did an amazing job,” he said.

Flower also spoke about Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam and the way he had led the side since taking charge.

“I don’t know his captaincy very well to be honest but I think he has the support of his players which is very important. He is like a really good young guy and I know that my brother [Grant Flower] had a really good relationship with him when he coached,” he said

“The fact that he's played so well, with the added responsibility of captaincy, reflect really well on him as a person. This shows that he can control his thoughts and his emotions and still perform brilliantly with a bat and lead from the front,” he concluded.

Pakistan cricket selectors have named Dahani in the squad.

"Shahnawaz Dahani was unfortunate to miss the selection for the England matches as the squad was announced before the start of the remaining 20 HBL PSL 6 matches. Hence, he was a straightforward selection when we sat to discuss and finalise the side for the New Zealand series"

Amazing delivery by Dahani for Sindh via Southern Punjab at National T20

Needs to work on his death bowling

He has a fantastic Yorker and should just try to land that 90% of the time at the death. Don’t know why he tries too many things?

Look at Bumrah! He is the best because he keeps it simple with his full, at the stump Yorkers at the death

Dahani brilliant spell of 4-12 today

Two in an over and of course [MENTION=1620]SHAHNAWAZ[/MENTION]Dahani
is overjoyed!!

He needs to be bowling for Pakistan soon enough. Very good bowler!

Just wow.

all pacer slots are booked in 15 apart from 1 that is Hasnain but i think Rumman seems to be more ecconomical and has amaizing skillful t20 bowler so lets see who gets a go both are good.

At the moment this guy probably deserves being picked in the T20 World Cup squad ahead of Hasnain.

He should be part of the squad but i would not pick him in the starting xi

Has been good in the national t20 however think it's better for him to not to be selected and grind it out this FC season just to help enhance his skills and make him an overall more complete bowler.

Rushing decent prospects into the national team has been a big problem of late and it would be better to not see Dahani go down that route.

However if he his selected he should be playing upfront and not being wasted on the bench considering he has looked the best pacer in the tournament so far

I feel a huge miss not to play Dahani in the T20 World Cup - should have been in the main XI from Day 1

Misbah told a very interesting story of him batting in the nets. On the white board Misbah had written TD which meant throw downs but Dahani interpreted it as Tabish and Dahani and so he would come to bat before all rounders and Misbah thought he is new here and wants to impress so didn’t say anything. On the 3rd day Dahani realized what TD actually meant and went to Misbah laughing and explained the situation to him.

Strange selections, they kept playing Hassan Ali. Could have given Dahani a chance against Namibia and Scotland. But maybe he didn’t impress Philander and co in nets? Well, we will surely see him against BD soon IA.

Dahani was a reserve player. The only way he could have played is if someone had been injured.Waseem jnr could have played but it would have been risky.Waseem should have been in reserves instead of Dahani.

blessing in disguise for him, if he had one or two poor games hassan would have taken his place anyway, this way he should have a clear run in lower pressure games against bang to establish himself.

There goes the chance of him being intelligent and a thinking bowler who would work the batsmen out

Don't think playing at the biggest stage in a debut series is a good idea.

Actually I think sending him with the A Shaheen's would have been a far better idea. He'd develop his skills with pressure off against good opposition.

Continues where he left off from 2021...

Solid figures today! Bowled 3 overs for 14 runs with 1 wicket. 4.66 economy but somehow Imran Khan got to bowl 4 overs instead of him even though he got smashed lol.

He was fooling around and not taking it very seriously in that third over, so Rizwan taught him a lesson and gave the 20th over to Imran Khan. Dahani still could have gotten his 4th over if he showed that he was upset with himself for bowling those 3 full tosses, but no he was waving to the crowd and seemed quite happy as if he bowled a fantastic over. Just a rookie mistake, but great captaincy by Rizwan. Sent him a subtle message to never take this game easy and always keep your head in the game.

Thats just the way Dahani is it was a good decision by Rizwan to give Imran the last over however it wasn't becouse he was waving to the crowd.

Good to see that he is now starting to pitch the ball up instead of bowling short of a length.

I know how Dahani is brother and I am not just talking about him waving to the crowd, it is the whole episode where he bowled a garbage over with a no ball and so many full tosses because he wanted to pick up a wicket so badly. Make no mistake about this, the last over was always supposed to be bowled by Dahani especially after the way he bowled his first spell. Rizwan perfectly saved his overs for death but then he ended up going with Imran who was expensive in his previous overs. Like i said, just a rookie mistake on his part and I am sure he is learning and getting better everyday as he is a great kid.

He did bowl a garbage one and that was the reason why he proberly didn't bowl the last over and not due to waving to the crowd. But I like how Dahani was pitching the ball up instead of bowling everything short I haven't seen him bowl a slower ball yet.

Love watching Dahani bowl. Brings a certain energy to the field, you always feel he's going to make something happen.

Too much clowning around.

Starting to look a bit silly at times when he's being smashed to all parts of the ground.

Focus on your cricket young man!

One wicket for Dahani today - lackluster along with most other bowlers in Multan

1/44 off 4 overs

Not hitting his length at all.

The balls that were yorkers last time are nice juicy length balls so far this time around.

Not varying his pace either.

Something has changed with him . . Bowling coaches?!
His pace is down from last year . . his lengths have changed . . his action has changed . . He was a back of a length, hit the wicket hard kinda bowler at pace . . this season he has been bowling in the slot . .
He also had picked a slower ball last year . . what happened to that?

Surprising and concerning changes in his bowling!

Struggling a bit in this PSL - victim of his own success in PSL 6?

Thinks of himself as a star without any actual success needs to sort himself and refocus on his game.

Struggling a bit in this PSL - victim of his own success in PSL 6?

There are technical changes in his bowling from last year. I haven't seen much of him in the time since PSL6 . . but he was bowling shoulder high deliveries at will at 145 kph last year. Not easy at all . . He was also angling the ball back in from that length almost Jofra Archer style . .
I don't mind him (or any bowler) going for runs in the odd game . . but there are fundamental changes in his bowling . . his pace has also gone down, his lengths have changed . . that's what's concerning as far as I am concerned.

Had surgery recently. Maybe down on fitness
