Hardik Pandya is a haughty cricket who does not play red ball cricket at all, skip all indian domestic tournaments including the flagship Ranji Trophy but still isn't stripped of the central contracts. While guys like Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are mauled for it.

And today like always he showed complete disdain for Rohit Sharma and send him to the boundary just to satiate his ego despite knowing Rohit is an obese guy. So why the BCCI and franchises of IPL tender him a special treatment despite being an overrated cricketer?

Getting demolished on social media at the moment

No fault of his, really.

Yes the arrogance is there but white ball cricket performance is there whenever he plays.

Isn't a captain supposed to have such kind of nature where he is ruthless and wants everyone to oblige his order? If we look at IPL history, apart from MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, none of the other captains( even the younger ones) have find any success except Hardik.

KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson are all captaining their sides from last 2-3 years but none have achieved glory.

Would you rather have a captain who is a yes sir guy, nice bloke, scores lot of runs with bat but his team never wins? Hardik has an IPL trophy two year ago and an IPL final last year backing his case to become a successful captain( inspite of being the one hated to the core).

Indian captains Rohit, Surya and hardik all in one team ..It's a good team to win the championship this time ..Hardik comes out as an arrogant character this time , everything will be forgotten if he performs well ...

I have read he has shown attitude and lost his cool with Kohli as well at times.

The fans appeared to have given Hardik Pandya a cold shoulder as he made his Mumbai Indians captaincy debut against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

The new MI skipper Pandya was booed by the fans when he came out for the toss while chants of 'Rohit Rohit' (former captain Rohit Sharma) reverberated throughout the entire stadium.

During the toss, when Ravi Shastri introduced the captains, Pandya was met with boos from the fans. Even after winning the toss, they continued to jeer at him when he began to speak.

Above piece covered his boos

The once abusive Rohit now just dancing on Pandya's gestures😂

I like the energy and thinking he brings into the team. I still remember how he finished off the T20 match in the West Indies while the non-striker was on 49 or something last year sending out a clear and out signal to team mates that they are here to play and win for a country and not for individual performances irrespective of the match scnario. This type of culture should be fostered in subcontinental teams. No player is above the team, and the team comes first irrespective of conditions or scenarios.

I know people in the subcontinent often serve personalities and prioritise them above the team or country.

Why he did that? MI pays Hardik 15 crore, what was the pay check by GT?
Ambani paid him outside the official salary. Rumour is INR50Crore($6mil) on the side.

MI do this for all their top stars so they accept the lower value retention and are thus underpaid.

Otherwise, SKY, Bumrah and Pollard, Malinga in past would have easy gotten the top bracket salary from other teams.

It was bound to happen

Visibly Frustrated Rohit Sharma Has Intense Chat With Hardik Pandya After MI's 6-Run Loss

Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma had an intense chat after Mumbai Indians suffered a 6-run defeat against Gujarat Titans in their opening match of IPL 2024 season.

Another season, another defeat for Mumbai Indians in the opening match as the Hardik Pandya-led franchise went down to Gujarat Titans by 6 runs on Sunday. The match marked the beginning of a new era for Mumbai, with Hardik Pandya leading the side, taking over the reins from Rohit Sharma. As the match culminated in a defeat for MI, Rohit was spotted having an intense chat with Hardik on the field, with the franchise's owner Akash Ambani also standing right next to them.

Throughout the match, Rohit remained in the spotlight despite not being Mumbai Indians' skipper anymore. Even during the course of the match, Rohit could be seen speaking to Hardik and other players, probably as part of certain strategic decisions.

In a video that has surfaced on social media, Hardik could be seen coming from behind to hug Rohit. But, the former MI captain turned around and looked frustrated as he held an intense chat with the successor. Here's the video:

Despite the defeat in the opening match, Hardik remained unfazed as he highlighted that the franchise has 13 more games in hand to make things right.

"Obviously we back ourselves to chase those 42 runs (in the last five overs) but it was one of those days where we see the score quite less in those last five overs, we lost a bit of momentum there," Pandya said at the post-match presentation.

"It feels good to be back because this is one stadium where you can enjoy and feel the atmosphere quite lively and obviously the crowd was full and they got a good game as well." When asked about Varma's refusal to run a single, the skipper said, "I think Tilak felt that was a better idea at that point of time. I completely back him. Not an issue, (we have) 13 games to go."

I saw the clips of him getting boo’d by almost the entire stadium.

Imad Wasim fans should watch it and understand that booing is part of the game. People were pretending Imad Wasim getting boo’d by a few fans was a crime against him or something.

Hardik Pandya is a talented player, but due to favoritism towards him from BCCI, he may soon experience a downfall.

Sunday wasn't the day for Hardik Pandya. While he expected a grand return to Ahmedabad and get Mumbai Indians off to a flying start in IPL 2024 with a win in their opening fixture against his old franchise Gujarat Titans. Hardik was criticised for a few of his decisions during the match, but much ahead of the start of the action at the venue where he lifted the IPL trophy as a captain of Gujarat in 2022, the all-rounder was brutally roasted for his act during toss.

After electing to bowl first on what he reckoned was a "decent track which might get better of dew arrives", presenter and former India head coach Ravi Shastri asked him about the team combination. At the start of the season, captains usually mention their overseas combination, before dwelling on intricate changes in the XI compared to previous matches in subsequent ties in the tournament. However, Hardik did not reveal any names of the overseas players that MI picked for the match against GT.

Hardik said: "We have four quicks, three spinners and seven batters. Making sure all the departments are looked after."

Reacting to the remark from the MI captain, former India head coach Anil Kumble roasted Hardik on local indian media program, which left AB de Villiers, who was also part of the panel, in splits. He said: “I would never expect Hardik to tell us the names as well. Four fast bowlers, three spinners, 11 fielders, we all know that. Who are those?”

I'm sure this IPL will be very challenging for him. In any case he has to win the title or else how we have seen people booing him, he will be nowhere.

MI top order just blasted from ball 1 and now captain Pandya is ruining things for them.

Overrated piece of arrogant brat. Should stick to only IPL. Would be good riddance for the ICT. (Without him)

Indian fans are at least 5-6 years late. Now they are calling him 'Chhapri'. Questioning his commitment towards Indian cricket team, his attitude, etc. I saw these things way before everyone. You can find those posts in this forum as well. :misbah :inti

I have been saying this for many years. He is not that special. Thinks too highly of himself. One or two good performances in international cricket means zilch. But he has got some blind supporters who also happen to be a blind supporter of Modani.:inti

Bad captaincy from Pandya as well. Why was Bumrah held back when the opposition was running away in the first 10 overs?

Pandya's arrogance has resulted in his downfall. First of all, he should have never left GT and secondly, when you rohit sharma, why would anybody ever think that pandya as a captain will work for MI.

Whatever we think about the individual, it must be acknowledged that the skillset he has (2-4 overs of proper pace and off pace skills + death hitting) is one of rarest in the world and thus every team will stretch to accommodate such players.

Right now the only comparable players in world with such skills are Russell and Stoinis. Their respective teams have also stuck with them despite long patches of indifferent international form simply because when it comes off, its an irresistible package.

Sounds Indian version of Mohammad Rizwan.

Absolutely untouchable. At least in T20 cricket, Rizwan is quite impactless and is a net negative.

But somehow holds on to his spot because Pakistan probably just don't have the talent to replace him.

Have to agree, you were right here.
One out of your hundred predictions came true. 🔥

Mumbai Indians incurred two consecutive losses in their first two matches of the IPL 2024 campaign, the situation seems to have worsened.

Lasith Malinga came to hug Hardik Pandya, but the skipper didn't seem to be in the mood and pushed aside the Lankan after a brief handshake.

He is being demonized. The way his own home crowd rejected him was not much, but a bit surprising. The fact is his comeback to MI has destroyed two teams MI and GT, both will suffer this year.

He hasn't done that big a crime as is being portrayed.

Hardik Pandya’s stepbrother Vaibhav Pandya arrested for deceiving cricketer of Rs. 4.3 cr.

Mumbai Indians Captain Hardik Pandya’s stepbrother Vaibhav Pandya was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly duping his brothers in business. Vaibhav Pandya (37), allegedly diverted around Rs 4.3 crore from the partnership firm based in Mumbai with his brothers. Subsequently, a huge loss was incurred to the cricketer Hardik Pandya and his brother, Krunal Pandya.

As per reports, the arrest was made after Hardik had filed a complaint against his stepbrother. The alleged misconduct includes the diversion of funds and violation of partnership terms. Later Mumbai Police charged with cheating and forgery.

The three individuals jointly established a polymer business three years ago in the year 2021, with specific terms citing that the cricketer brothers were to invest 40% of the capital each, while Vaibhav would contribute 20% and manage daily operations. The end profits were to be distributed in the same ratio.

However, the stepbrother set up another firm dealing in the same trade, but without informing his two brothers, in violation of the partnership agreement. Around this time, profits of the original partnership dropped, causing a loss of Rs.3 crore. On the other hand, Vaibhav secretly increased his own profit from 20% to 33.3%, causing massive losses to the cricketer and his brother. The stepbrother allegedly diverted a huge sum of money from the partnership firm's account to his own account, taking Rs 1 crore. Confronted by the cricketer, he allegedly threatened to tarnish his reputation.

Mumbai Indians keeper batter Ishan Kishan believes a part of his franchise skipper Hardik Pandya would be relishing the challenge of getting jeered at the early stages of IPL 2024, including at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium. He said in the post-match press conference following MI’s seven wicket win against RCB on Thursday:

“He [Hardik Pandya] loves challenges. He has been in this situation before. He is in that situation right now. He is not someone who will come out and talk about this and that. I know he is someone who works really hard off the field. On the field, he is on a very different level."

"I know he must be enjoying it. I have spent a lot of time with him. He must be enjoying it. He is ready for the challenges, because you can’t complaint to the fans. They will come up with their expectations, they will come up with their point of view. But at the same time, me knowing how Hardik Pandya thinks, he is someone who loves challenges."

"He is happy with people doing it. In the coming games, he will do (well) with the bat and people will start loving him again. Because you’re doing well and people will also recognise your hard work. What you’re going through and still what you’re doing for the team. I think people do recognise that and our fans are like that. They can be a little harsh on you but at the same time, when you show that it isn’t bothering you, and you’re in a good head space and willing to perform well, that might change. If not today, then tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then day after."

In the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday, Hardik Pandya bowled just one over but opted out after conceding 13 runs. Simon Doull expressed that there appears to be something amiss with Hardik while speaking on a program on a local Indian sports platform:

“You go out and make a statement by opening the bowling in game no. 1, and suddenly, you are not required. He's injured. I'm telling you there is something wrong with him. He is not admitting it. But there is something wrong with him for sure. That is my gut feeling.”

His confidence has been shattered.. now he must be realizing what a big blunder he made after switching franchise.

Hardik Pandya's T20 World Cup fate discussed in Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, Ajit Agarkar's 2-hour-long meeting: Report

India captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar met in Mumbai last week to discuss India's T20 World Cup squad, reported The Indian Express. The main agenda for the two-hour-long meeting in the middle of IPL 2024 was Hardik Pandya's place in the World Cup squad. There is still some time before the selectors pick India's final 15 for the world event slated to take place in USA and West Indies right after the 17th edition of the IPL finishes but the Indian team management is concerned about Hardik's bowling fitness.

The Mumbai Indians captain, under immense pressure both on and off the field, has been below-par in this season's IPL so far. Hardik Pandya has scored just 131 runs in 6 matches. Barring that one whirlwind innings against RCB where he scored 21* off just 6 balls, there have been questions over his approach in the middle overs, where he has failed to score at a desired strike rate.

Rohit, Dravid and Agarkar's concerns, however, are more about his bowling. Many in the current Indian set-up can perform Pandya's role as a batter in T20s but not many can do that while assuring four overs as the third seamer of the side. That is where Pandya is unique and adds balance to the XI.

But he has been horribly off-colour with the ball this season. He has lacked consistency and clarity. Moreover, Pandya has bowled his full quota only twice - In MI's first two matches against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad - in six matches so far. He didn't bowl a single over against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. He once again got the ball in his hand against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru but for only one over. In MI's last match against Chennai Super Kings, Pandya bowled three overs but was smashed for three back-to-back sixes by MS Dhoni in the last over.

In the 11 overs that Pandya has bowled in IPL 2024, he has picked up only three wickets and leaked runs at 12 runs an over. While there doesn't seem to be any fitness-related issue with his bowling, his form remains a concern.

According to the report, the selectors will only consider Pandya for the T20 World Cup, if he bowls well regularly in the IPL. With an extra bowler always at his disposal in the IPL due to the Impact Player rule, it can be a bit too much to expect four overs from Pandya every match.

Who can replace Hardik Pandya in India's T20 World Cup squad?

What are the options for India if they, in a hypothetical world, do take the bold call of not picking Pandya for the T20 World Cup? The obvious choice is Shivam Dube. He has done enough with the bat to warrant a place in India's T20 World Cup side. He is a left-hander and can give the much-needed impetus to innings in the middle-overs with his big hits.

But can he do the job with the ball? Dube has not bowled a single ball in this IPL. He has been used as an Impact Player for his batting by CSK.

The other names that can be thrown into the mix are Vijay Shankar and Venkatesh Iyer. The former has fallen way behind in the pecking order and Iyer's problem is similar to that of Dube's. KKR have too many bowling options and the captain has not felt the need to fall back to Iyer.

Logically, there shouldn't be much of a threat to Pandya's place in the T20 World Cup but there are indications that the selectors and the team management are worried about his bowling and fitness. It is high time, he turns things around in the IPL, for MI and for himself.

Wish if there was a way where unpicked quality players were allowed to be loaned to other teams.

Did MI Star Mohammad Nabi Share Post Blasting Skipper Hardik Pandya's 'Strange' Decisions? A Fact Check

After Mumbai Indians' narrow win over Punjab Kings on Thursday, a interesting post went viral on social media. In the screenshot of the post, allegedly re-shared by Mumbai Indians' Mohammad Nabi, a person by the display name of ijaz.azizi07 wrote on his instagram story: "@mumbaiindians some of you captain's decision is very strange and surprise people!? Nabi didn'y bowl today."

The Insta story also mentioned: "President. Gamechanger at a very important time! Two catches and one run out."

Mohammad Nabi is a veteran spin allrounder from Afghanistan who was roped in by MI in the IPL 2024 auction. In the match against Punjab Kings, Nabi was run out for 0. While he did not bowl, he ttok the catches of Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh - two players who almost took PBKS to a win against MI. He was also involved in the run out of Kagiso Rabada - who was the final wicket to fall.

However, the instagram story post, that social media says has been reshared by Mohammad Nabi, was not present on his profile on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Pandya has been fined for MI's slow over-rate in the match against Punjab Kings.

"Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, on April 18. As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs," IPL said in a statement.

Irfan Pathan said during a show on a local Indian sports channel:

"What I feel about Hardik Pandya is that Indian cricket needs to make it clear that they should not give him that much priority as they have given him so far, because we still haven't won the World Cup. And if you think you are a primary all-rounder, you need to make that kind of an impact at the international level. As far as the all-rounder is concerned, he hasn't made that impact at the international level, we are only thinking about the potential. We are getting confused between the IPL performances and the international performances. That's a big difference."

Damn.. Pathan went down hard on Hardik.

Probably the only good score he has achieved in this IPL 2024 so far is 46(24) against DC today

Finally some honesty from an Indian cricketer on Hardik.

Basis his form (whenever he felt like playing in India colors), he doesn't deserve an automatic slot in Indian team in any of 2 LoI formats.

He is that bad. And now that his IPL is going from bad to worse, hope he doesn't get picked for T20 WC.

All the constant booing and jeering from the crowd along with lack of support from Rohit did not effect his performance?

If Hardik will be dropped, then Rohit also deserves to be dropped. He was horrible this IPL season. In fact his performances have been poor for a while. Too slow in the power play.

He wasn't booed in international games. Did he make a lasting impression in the international games he played till date, save a few fleeting performances here and there?

As for Rohit, no way he and Kohli should be playing International T20s, let alone WT20.

Have been saying this for the past few years. Finally fans and experts are realising this. Few good performances here and there means nothing in International cricket lol. Even today we can say that Pathan as an all-rounder was much better than Hardik Pandya. :inti

"Who In This Country...": Ex-BCCI Chief Selector's Clear Verdict On Hardik Pandya

There was a lot of speculation regarding Hardik Pandya's inclusion in the India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 and a lot of people on social media were caught by surprise when he was named vice-captain for the competition. Hardik has recently faced a lot of criticism for his form in the IPL 2024 and Mumbai Indians' disappointing performance has also raised questions over his leadership. However, former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad believes that Hardik becoming the vice-captain was the right move and there is no other fast bowling all-rounder in the country at the moment like Hardik.

"I don't think there is a second thought on Hardik's inclusion and also being made the vice-captain of the side. He was given the mantle of captaincy when Rohit was not there. So that clearly indicated that he was next in line for leadership. The selectors made the right decision by picking him. Tell me, who in this country now is a better fast bowling all-rounder than Hardik?" Prasad said on RevSportz.

"Yes, he has been struggling with his form in recent times. But let us be fair as well; there is so much that has happened. Change of leadership in Mumbai, unfortunately, has affected his form as well. But once he puts on the Indian jersey, he can leave his IPL form behind. And once again, I repeat that Hardik Pandya is the best fast bowling all-rounder in the country now no matter what the pundits say," he added.

Hardik was out of action since the Cricket World Cup 2023 due to injury and his return has not been great with dismal performances in IPL 2024. However, Prasad said that Hardik will bounce back before the World Cup.

"I think Hardik will come out of it. I am sure both will give their best. Once they are in the Indian team, their roles will change as well. In Mumbai Indians, Hardik is struggling because of a role clarity. At Gujarat Titans, he was very comfortable with the role he was assigned but suddenly in Mumbai Indians where they have so many super-stars, he is struggling to find a perfect batting order for himself. There seems to be no clarity in his role. He will not have to worry about that in the Indian team,"

Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024:

With the bat:

11 - Matches
11 - Inns
198 - Runs
19.8 - Avg
147.8 - SR

With the ball:

9 - Inns
8 - Wkts
37.1 - Avg
11 - Econ
20.2 - SR

It is beyond my understanding how a self-proclaimed richest cricket board selected him for the ICC T20I World Cup squad with such batting and bowling averages and didn't select KL Rahul and Rinku Singh

They aren't self proclaimed, they actually are the richest board.

What's surprising is that pcb is the 4th richest board.

NZ is actually the poorest board out of all top teams with just 9M compensation.

So where is our 55M going?

His performance with the ball seems to be improving lately in the IPL. I think he would still be an effective part of team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup without the captaincy pressure.

Ambanis will regret his decision to apiont hardik as a captain
Truer words were never spoken. Doubt their ego will make them realize but deep down Albania gotta realize that Pandya is no successor to Rohit either as cricketer or simply as a person to be the face of their franchise even.

Making him the captain of MI was the biggest blunder that Ambanis can do in their life. They changed their most successful captain for this guy whose behavior is the worst. He is guy having a lit of bad attitude and ego and he is going no where with it.

Pandya is not hungry enough to perform IMO. When I see him play for India, he plays as if he is doing a favor to India. To be fair, the same can be said for few others too.

I don’t understand. Are you saying Hardik shouldn’t be dropped because Rohit has been flop?

Btw if you watch his interviews before and after the match, he smiles condescendingly non stop as if he is above all the booing and jeering. He is being rightly jeered. No other captain is being jeered (on the same scale). That is a big tell.

People like Pathan gets extra critical on Pandya just bcoz Pathan and Pandya brothers belong to the same state and they got some personal issues.

Also, the sword on Pandya seems to be always there where as other players gets free pass. The same privilege we extend to other players is always missing for Pandya for some reason. Maybe it is bcoz of his cool and casual persona the yardsticks we use to measure is always different for him.

Pandya is a big match player in international cricket. Anyone saying he only performs in IPL has no clue about cricket.

1. Defending 2 runs in 3 balls against BD in 2016 crucial WT20 game

2. His counter attacking knock in CT 2017 finals when all other batters failed.

3. Best bowler from India against Pak in 2019 WC

4. Some brilliant performances in T20 series dowunder in Australia 2020

5. Won the game for India against Pakistan in Asia cup 2022 chasing down 23 runs in last 2 overs.

6. Played a crucial role in stiching partnership with Kohli in that famous Melbourne T20 game

7. Even in 2023 Asia cup and world cup he was brilliant both with bat and ball till he got injured. Remember his partnership with Ishan Kishan in that rained out game?

In addition if you also consider his IPL performances like winnning Gujarat the title in very first attempt and making them runner up next year etc., he has accomplished much more in cricket than Irfab Pathan ever had. He need to stop being jealous of his fellow state cricketer and support him rather when things are going tough.

Ishan Kishan

I agree Irfan comes off as bitter and jealous but still Pandya is no victim here. He treated almost everyone with contempt when he was rising and rising. There are countless videos of him treating other team members poorly as captain. Not to mention the whole Koffee with Karan episode.

As long as he was performing, people kept their mouth shut. Now that his performance and his captaincy are little bit soft, people are showing their contempt for him too.

What he had said in Karan Johar show is about his flamboyant personal life. Not sure why anyone should have a problem with it. Judge him on his performance...there is no point being a moral police.

Also when did his performance dip? He was brilliant in last Asia Cup and few games of the world cup he played before getting injured. We should not judge from few games in IPL where he is coming after a long layoff. He is already regaining form with every passing game and I am sure he will be back to his prime by the time of T20 world cup.

The point is character plays a big part in a sportsperson's life and Pandya has that street fight character. Sure likes of Irfan Pathan were more talented but there is that edgy attitude that Pandya has which makes him unique than all other Indian allrounders.

Pandya in the right frame of mind is the best pace bowling all-rounder in the world right now, but it seems that the burden of captaining Mumbai when he is probably the most hated figure amongst Mumbai fans right now has taken its toll on him.

He will probably do better in Indian colors, but he needs to leave Mumbai. Their fans don’t deserve to have him on the team.

Not trying to be moral police. But for an average cricket fan, it is hard to judge solely on cricket stats. It is all part of the package. Pandya didn’t help his cause by treating every one poorly on the way up. Every one is waiting for a chance to kick him while he is struggling.
