Virat Kohli suffers first series whitewash as captain as New Zealand seal 7-wicket win in 2nd Test

India lost the 2nd Test match in Christchurch in under eight sessions - on a green pitch, the batsmen failed to stand up and show their mettle and were blown away by a relentless New Zealand bowling attack. Such was the mediocrity of the batting that the side could cross 200 only once in four innings and captain Virat Kohli rightly pointed out that the batsmen’s inability to back their bowlers cost the side dear.

New Zealand has always been a slippery slope for the Indian team, the batsmen tend to find themselves in a muddle on the green tracks here and once again, the side failed to live up to its billing of the number 1 Test side.

In this series, India averaged 18.05 with the bat per wicket and this is their third-worst in any Test series. Now, the other two series numbers are also against New Zealand - 13.37 in New Zealand in 2002-03, and 16.61 when New Zealand came visiting in 1969-70.

Mayank Agarwal, who scored 58 runs in the second innings in the first Test, was the highest scorer for India in the series. This might be a starling number but this is lowest highest score in a series of two or more matches for India in the history of Test matches played by them. This was the first time since the tour of New Zealand in 2002-03 when no Indian batsman could score a century in a series.

India were blanked by a ruthless New Zealand and this was their first such series result since the whitewash inflicted on them by England and Australia in 2011. Hence, this is the first time, India have been whitewashed in Tests under the captaincy of Virat Kohli.

“It was a matter of not having enough intent in the first game, and not closing out here. We didn’t bowl in the right areas for long enough. They created a lot of pressure. It was a combination of us not executing well enough and New Zealand sticking to their plans. The batsmen didn’t do enough for the bowlers to try and attack,” Indian captain Virat Kohli said after the match.

Shami would have made no difference. The target was low.NZ were never under pressure because they more less
knew they will be able to chase it.

Shami was playing in this test match i believe. It was Umesh who i felt was the weakest link.

This wasn't even our best team lol.

Conway and Young will be in the team by the end of the year.

sure. You guys are really good and underrated at home. When these other fodders tour n.z they will learn the hard way.

Need to win the toss to beat n.z in n.z conditions unless you are australia who just seem to have a huge mental edge over n.z

once n.z gets over the mental block they will beat Aussies as well.

I'm not joking lol.

Conway has been owning domestic cricket and is waiting to be eligible to play for us or he'd be in the XI in every format.

Nicolls will probably make way for him.

It was pretty comprehensive win. India played a good squad.

No amount of Bhuvi, Khaleel, Siraj, Gill, etc would change the result. NZ in these conditions are quite strong. Also, Jamieson was game changer.

um bhuvi is swing bowler. ishant was fantastic in the first match and he played with an ankle injury!!

ofcourse he both would have made a difference. Go check bhuvi's record. he is very good. Would have a made a huge difference and he can BAT.

we may have still lost or clawed one back but we don't know that. It would have definitely been a closer game.

n.z is hard to beat in their conditions when they win the toss dude. It's the truth. People need to accept it and actually give them the credit they deserve.

yea they got destroyed by australia but that we away.

they got demolished by india in 2017 too 3 0. Again, that was away from home.

At home they are tough to beat.

btw did u just compare a world class bowler like bhuvi to khalil and siraj? rofl

Bhuvi might have played only 2nd Test in place of Ishant. That way we can also name Pandya. But both have been injured for a long time and it wasnt a surprise

Aman's NZ best bet would be to face India in the finals at Lords.

Australia would be the last team they would want to play.

Personally, will like to watch India Vs Aus or Ind Vs NZ in finals. NZ Vs Aus will be too one-sided. Even as neutral, you don't want a final like that.

NZ will fight Aus much better than India in England
