Solid side.

I would ditch Afridi and open with Majid Khan. Ditch Yusuf and play Zaheer.

Absolutely - this guy is proving why he was a failure as Coach ... and why MoHa was an MVP under him.
 
Not bad, I'd play Aamer Sohail over Afridi though.

Like you said, Afridi in the 90s was a force on his own as an opener, with a lineup like that you can afford a boom/bust player
 
Opening with Afridi in an ODI XI is like trying to open a door which says "push" by pulling it.
 
Batting unit is pretty awful honestly(for an all time 11 that is). Won't be a top side in modern ODIs. Afridi is more miss than hit, Yousuf is a good accumulator but not very versatile. At 5 you need someone who can potentially score a 30 ball 50 and though I have never seen him live Javed doesn't seem like the sort of guy who can do that often enough. I know Imran could hit sixes quite comfortably so that's okay.

Bowling lineup is class as expected.

Would replace afridi with shadab though its very early
And open with zaman but again very early to say.

Would drop Inzi very inconsistent plus extremely poor running between the wickets

That is the reason this XI flopped in WC Final in 1999

Too much dependance on two batsmen
Same as the Pakistan side of today (Babar and Fakhar)and even Indian side to some extent.(Kohli or nothing)
 
I would say the current England Batting lineup will outperform this one in most cases on today's flat pitches but will lose in head to head competitions due to the bowling strength of this 11.

Just noticed Zaheer Abbas is the 12th man. He seems like the sort of batsman who would thrive in modern ODI cricket. How could he not have him in the 11?
 
Tossing Afridi (or any pinch hitter) into a weak batting unit doesn't make sense.
 
Javed Miandad will be a liability with his tuk tuk approach. You might as well select Ijaz Ahmed who is a match winner and can hit some big shots.
 
One change:

Mohammad Hafeez instead of Mohammad Yusuf

It is a Pakistan XI after all, so why expect all 11 players to be picked on merit? :)
 
Harsh to not have Shoaib Akhtar in the mix. 12th man atleast
 
It's kind of sad that we can't even pick 5-6 elite batsmen, because we haven't really had them! haha.. but on another note, there is no way that Afridi & Razzaq would both be selected in an All-Time Pakistani XI. I would only play one or the other depending on the opposition/conditions. How is Zaheer Abbas not in there? Drop Afridi for Zaheer. MoYo is okay for 5-game ODI tours, but I would never play him in crunch games. Not sure who I would replace MoYo with though sadly.
 
I am surprised alot of people don't consider Abdul Razzaq instead of Afridi back in the day.

The number of games he has won for us chasing... Pakistan were an empty unit without his late order dash

No issues with a prime Waqar getting the nod over Akhtar but the later is the guaranteed 12th man in this squad. Had someone like Akhtar been on the bench from 1989 onwards, Waqar would be under pressure to not have a single bad game.

Afridi was perfect in the 90's super star team, his failures could be afforded and when he clicks the team wins. It makes perfect sense to have him there

If people are crying about the strike rates of Azhar Ali and Misbah, how can they digest an even slower version of them in Miandad? His S/R is 67 which is lolworthy.

Opposition will be happy to see Miandad play in ODI's. Miandad is like Gavaskar and too slow to play the modern LOI format. YOu need at least 80 S/R to be in the All time Eleven of any Team.
 
Oh Waqar. You don't pick yourself in your own XI. They're asking you because you're already a legend (as he has called him that before).

Shoaib obviously belongs there instead of him. And Afridi isn't an opener.
 
Afridi as an opener is a weird choice. Not surprised at the rest of the team.

To be fair, I think that side would give a better batting performance than what we are giving right now in NZ, they'd make at least 200.

Actually now that I think about it since Hanif hasn't played ODIs I would replace him with Aamer Sohail

Miandad was a threat to all bowlers of that day

Even Lilee feared him

Pacers would laugh when they see Azhar and Misbah who block the fast bowlers and are trying to save their shots for spinners

SR of 67 was extremely good for that time

Take a look at what Gavaskar SR was

I havent got the facts but i would say even during that tine 75 would have been good(Richards was 90) 70 average, so 67 was def on the low side.

Very good side, personally I would include Zaheer (he was a remarkable player and looking at his sr, in comparison to his contemporaries, he was above and beyond) and have Razzak drop out.

Afridi is the spinning all rounder, no need for Razzak tbh. He'd be 12th man who rotates in during dead rubbers lol

There's no way Zaheer Abbas sit out of that XI. Probably the best ODI batsman Pakistan ever had. And no way does Afridi merit a position in the lineup. Or Razzaq for that matter.
