Washington Sundar - Performance Watch

Don't know about his T20 stats but he's not a T20 player tbh.. if he can bowl regularly in T20s with good economy then he'll be a good choice, but his batting lacks fire power.. mostly he bats in lower order in T20s so he'll be a liability there.. but he can be great choice in tests may be in ODIs too..
Is Jadeja a T20 player then? But he has been representing us in T20s (as and when he pleases) since T20 WC 2009!

Unlike Sundar, Jadeja is not even good at his stronger discipline which is bowling. And his batting has always been shambles in LoIs.

He's not.. he gets in to loi team mainly due to his fielding.. but Jadeja had slogging skill, Sundar don't.. in this wc Pak & SA lost India mainly due to Imad & Maharaj wasn't able to slog..

Another brilliant performance by Washi 👍🏻 i hope selectors consider him for our main team.
His fitness is the only concern for me, gets injured pretty frequently. He need to strengthen his body up and play consistently. He can be a great asset in all three formats for us.

On a totally different note, it is nice it is to see some of our fellow Indian fans addressing Washi’s name correctly.

It was always one of my pet peeve that Mispronouncing or wrong addressing of someone’s name (in one of my earlier post from 3 years back herein this very thread explained the same when Washi was called as sundar which is his father’s name as Tamilnadu does not have the practice of surname or last name).

In T20s, Axar is the best bet undoubtedly.

In ODIs, it is debatable between Jadeja, Washi and Axar. I think Washi can actually bat a little higher and build the innings and let Pandya bat at 7.

Another match winning performance by Washington Sundar 👌🏻
Despite winning player of the series performance against Zimbabwe he wasn't selected in first two T20Is.
Definitely underrated but effective cricketer..

His economy rate across nearly 50 T20Is is under 7. That's not just good, but terrific. Time and again, he has delivered under pressure.

His batting is UNTESTED in T20Is as he hardly gets to bat by virtue of his position. He can strike a long ball although he's a touch player by definition.

He has to be a constant inclusion in the team in all formats going on.

His batting is underrated. I think he should be utilized in tests. But not sure if there is a slot for him in the Indian test XI. I think India have pretty much a set eleven in tests. No openings currently.

Tests are where openings are incoming. ..

Jadeja, Ash, Kohit and Kohli are all I'm their last lap.

Yes Washy has to improve his fitness and play more red ball cricket before brimg slotted in as replacement for say Ashwin. Although Kuldeep and Axar are incumbents

Atleast he could be the 3rd spinner in home tests.

Washington Sundar is in the form of his life!

Dismissed Avishka, Mendis & Asalanka - all set batters.

Three wicket haul 3/30 in 10 overs at economy rate of 3.00

India announced their squad for the second and third Tests against New Zealand with Washington Sundar's addition being the only change.

The Tamil Nadu all-rounder will link up with the squad in Pune, which will host the second Test from October 24.

His induction into the squad paid off, as he secured impressive bowling figures of 7/59 against New Zealand in the 2nd Test

Bits and pieces to the core.
Not good enough to bat in the top 7.
Not good enough to be the lead spinner. Does not even spin the ball.

Kuldeep is like 4 times the bowler Sundar will ever be. Ridiculous that he is being benched. If they are so insistent on playing Sundar, one of Ashwin or Jadeja should make way.

He is good enough to bat in top 5 let alone top 7, he is more of a batting allrounder.

He has played only a handful of tests but impressed everyone with the bat wit two amazing Knocks in Gabba and Ahmedabad.

One of them was against Aussies at their fortress and other vs England on a Turner.

Not a Limited overs player yet, but most probably will become one.
A better test batsman than Rahul for sure

I am aware of his performances.
Just don't rate his batting abilities. Or bowling for that matter.

Shardul Thakur also did well in his first few matches. Then the balloon burst.

Not a fair comparison i know but over a decent sample size i don't see producing the required results.

There is a difference. Sundar was just okay with ball when he started. Thakur was very good when he started. Then Thakur regressed. But Sundar has gotten better with ball.

Solid innings by Wash, came in crisis and steadied the ship to support Reddy.

Well played to the young lad.

Sundar is a genuine all rounder. And he is already good enough to contribute with both bat and bowl.

I always have soft corner for him given that he has the disability of single-sided deafness. Deaf in one ear. He depends a lot on visual cues and good ear. He also has to place himself strategically on the field so that he can hear what the other fielders say.
