"We achieved success in isolating Pakistan even among Islamic countries" : Sushma Swaraj

Third world country do not have millions of population living below poverty line.

Similarly third world country also dont have thriving gdp, FDIs, space programmes, foreign investors, million dollar sporting league etc etc.

Oh and btw, India never depend on other countries like China/Saudi to financially bail them out.....like few of our real 3rd world neighbours does. ;-)

I wonder if indians are so NOT third world, why do so many of them like slumming with us third worlders on our online forum! Hahaha

Third world countries like india definitely have 500 million + in poverty, millions of slums, people dying of disease and malnutrition, one-third of the country illiterate, no rule of law, widespread corruption, lots of violence against women and minorities, a huge brain drain with millions of indians migrating to the west and arabian gulf. The EU has to bail out Greece and Saudis have bailed out Turkey, neither Greece or Turkey is third world and they both are FAR more developed than India. I feel like y'all suffer from head-in-sand syndrome. :))

Bro you should visit your country more frequently and go to public hospitals there at times.

I still don't understand how one can argue that isolation was achieved based on the logic the Indian FM is proposing. That is a seriously low threshold for isolation. Basically every country in the world is isolated based on this logic.

He won't. There is a reason he lives outside India. Saying 'I love India more than the indians living in India from his apartment in London won't make him patriotic.' :inti

Now you made me think of ostriches, which in turn made me think of troodon admitting he had chicken legs.

What were we talking about again?

India is a third world country period. You and I may be moderately well off and certain sections of the Indian population may be leading comfortable lives but can we speak for everyone?

Yes we have fast growing GDP but what about inequality? Do the poorer sections benefit from rising GDP or is it concentrated in few hands? Yes we have ISRO, IPL, tech/IT/pharma companies etc but so many still live in slums, still die of hunger/malnutrition, the maternal/infant mortality rates are comparable to poor African nations, the hygiene/sanitation standards are pathetic, education sector is in shambles, farmers are committing suicide, dismal public health services.

Why are you in denial? India is a 3rd world country with majority still suffering.

Maybe Indians who don't like the term 3rd world could switch to the more ego soothing term Developing world instead?

Those of us who live in first world countries have no need for sugar coating, we have high standards of sanitation, good infrastructure, travel friendly cities and corruption free administration. For us, those countries which don't have it are 3rd world, but if you prefer developing world then that's fine by me.

The only person in denial is you but then not surprised coming from you. My point is simple....no 3rd world countries have space power, GDP growth, FDI, real estate sector, ITs, Bullet trains sporting leagues etc etc that India has. Ofcourse India has lots of poverty and that is due to enormous population of India. The day when poverty issue gets eradicated....India will be 1st world nation which its clearly not. Its an emerging market and fastest growing but will take more work to become 1st world nation. Watch Obama's speech in UK Parliament....its exactly his words that Brazil and India are fastest growing nation in the world.

But then again who is Obama...its become a norm of few people to criticize the country.
