Misbah-ul-Haq at a press conference announcing the T20I squad for the Bangladesh series:
"Our situation in T20 cricket was alarming because we lost matches to Sri Lanka and Australia. It was important for us to think about how we can get back to winning ways and that's what we took decisions based on"
"We brought back some experience in batting, some domestic performers like Ahsan Ali, Haris Rauf is performing well in T20 cricket in BBL, Amad Butt did well in the Emerging team and has brought himself into contention as a white-ball all-rounder. We have tried to form a team with a mix of young and experienced players"
"Hafeez is experienced enough, he has performed in the past. We never said Malik and Hafeez aren't in our plans, we were trying out our pool but we felt we needed them here. Hafeez is experienced and he has so many performances, he is mature. We feel he can contribute to the team and perform for Pakistan"
"We have time for the T20 World Cup, to make our best combination. We have PSL and other cricket coming up and we have plans during the months off as well. We have to experiment until we find our best combination. If we didn't get results previously, we shouldn't be scared but we should look for the best combination"
"Step by step, we are trying to check our pool of players and we can't play everyone together. We tried the likes of Ahmed and Umar, now this series we are giving a chance to Ahsan Ali. We have PSL coming up and that will give us the answers to a few questions"
"Shadab is working hard and we have Usman Qadir also as a backup and we are working with him as well and keeping everything in mind"
"In hindsight, you can say anything was a mistake or a shortcoming but you have to try different things to look for solutions. We tried our bench strength and tried some players. All these players are in our pool and we will keep them all in consideration and make the combination accordingly"
"If we were scared, we wouldn't take such decisions at all. We have tried to make a combination of new and experienced players. Shoaib Malik is in good form recently and it's good if we utilise him. We are also looking at replacements and new players. There is no such thing such as fear of losing, we are just trying to make the best combination for the T20 World Cup"
"Everyone is under consideration, Kamran Akmal also. We wanted to continue a bit with Rizwan, PSL performances and fitness etc. will also give a clearer picture going forward and see who comes into our plans. There is no such thing (about any players being barred from selection), we discuss about the likes of Salman Butt as well and whenever there is any consensus, we will surely consider him"
"It's important for us to get back to winning specially in T20 cricket where we are #1, recent series have dented our repute. BD is a dangerous team in the shorter formats and have played cricket recently, it will be a tough competition. They can beat anyone. We have to play our best cricket to win"
"I wouldn't call it a comeback for Hafeez and Malik, we were giving chances to some younger players, it's not that they were discarded from T20 due to bad performances. We will try to give them confidence, they are experienced and I think they can cope and perform for Pakistan"
"Sarfaraz has made some terrific improvements in fitness and is one of the fittest at the moment. It's straight forward for him with PSL coming up, he was dropped due to form. If he performs, he has a strong case to make a comeback"
"There's no such thing (Mohammad Amir punished for Test retirement). We have tried to be consistent with the younger players and with senior players like Wahab and Amir, it would be difficult to give chances to the likes of Haris Rauf who we want to give chances too. With senior players in the squad, it's difficult to keep them in the squad and not play them so we wanted to play young bowlers here to improve our pool of bowlers for every format"
"If you don't know about Iftikhar Ahmed's recent performances, then I can't help you"
"Hasan Ali has recovered his fitness, his comeback in competitive cricket will be in PSL"
"We want to give some more chances to some of the players in the squad, we can't scatter and play everyone. One by one, we are giving chances to all the players in the pool"
"Haris Rauf's performances in Australia weren't the only point of note, in PSL he did well on slower pitches too and he bowls well at the death and has good pace. We included him because he has bowled well in all conditions and he is in good form, it's the best time to utilise him"
"When 6 provincial teams were selected, Haris Rauf was picked for Northern by us and he took part in a conditioning camp too. He was in our future plans from earlier, along with the likes of Naseem, Musa and Hasnain. These players can gradually be in all formats. Right now, he is doing well in limited overs but he should also play more FC cricket. We spoke to M Wasim and asked to play him in 4 day games to develop him and we kept getting reports about his progress, he improved and bowled well in 4 day cricket. Slowly, we are moving forward and he has been in our plans"
Babar "We took some young players to Australia, now we have tried to bring some seniors back into the team to stop losing matches and we have a good combination of seniors and juniors"
Babar "Haris Rauf bowled well in PSL but he didn't have much experience. He played domestic cricket and played 4 day and bowled well in Australia, we felt he had improved a lot. He has good variations and death bowling so that's why he was selected"
