LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) legal battle against its Indian counterpart over the resumption of bilateral series between the neighbouring countries is a ‘waste of time’, according to former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf. Zaka, while talking to reporters here Wednesday, said the PCB would not get any success as its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) signed in 2014 to assure both sides will play bilateral series from six bilateral series from 2015-2023 had no strong legal biding to force India against its stance.

Zaka said as PCB chairman he stood alone against the ‘Big Three’ formula of the International Cricket Council (ICC) under which India, England and Australia had to get a lion’s share of the global body’s income while rest of the member countries had to get nominal share from the profit.

The ICC, however, abolished the Big Three Formula last year. It may be mentioned here that after Zaka’s removal from the PCB as chairman, incumbent chairman Najam Sethi voted in favour of the Big Three and in return he signed an agreement with the BCCI that both the countries would resume bilateral cricket, which has been suspended since the last decade due to political issues between the two governments. Zaka said in the first attempt the PCB had the support of three countries to go against the ‘Big Three Formula’, but later, when the board was left alone, he stood firm against the new ruling.

Quotes from a video of the same media interaction:

"I took a stance against signing Big 3 agreement as I wasn’t in favor of it. There were 2 or 3 members who sided with "On this issue, half of the members sided with Pakistan and half of them sided with India"

"India used the ruse of playing [more] matches with members to get support, and they even made similar offer to Pakistan"

"They [India] promised us that they are going to play a good amount of matches with us and asked us to sign a MOU with us"

"I told them that if India include the 'International Court of Arbitration' clause in it then we will surely sign the MoU. If not, then it is better that we maintain our opposition to this"

"The opposers of Pakistan say that Pakistan's stand was a lone [and unjustified] stand"

"The whole world realized that it wasnt the right thing to do. Even India, which was the main sponsor of the idea to begin with, realized it was a mistake"

I have always imagined Zaka Ashraf as sitting on his favorite plush chair nodding off to sleep reading his favorite newspaper. As he drips off to sleep, he starts snoring softly, and he starts tilting over. When he tilts too much, he jerks back up to sleep eye wide open and starts ranting "Only I stood against the big three!!!" He realizes there's no one in the room and then he settles to read his paper and starts nodding off again, for the cycle to repeat itself.

Yeah, this coming from a guy who forgoed Pakistan's right to a home series against India in exchange for the ODI and T-20 series against India in India with every profit, proceeds going to the BCCI instead.

This coming from a guy who ineptly and incompetently watched all the other Cricketing nations agree with the BCCI Big 3 formula and leaving the PCB with no leverage at the end.

This coming from a guy who spent millions on trying to host the PSL but failed to do so.

This coming from a guy who tried to get the PCB Chairmanship on numerous occasions and wasted so much PCB time, resources in his quest for power even though it was clear he had no backing, support from the President, Prime Minister.

what a liar.

When India was suppose to tour Pakistan, this guy ended up touring India instead. Now because of him, India owes us 2 tours.

He did the tour to India, so that he would look good in media, that this guy made india vs pakistan match take place.

WHat he ended up doing was giving them a benefit and placing us at a loss.

now he sits and judges others.
