"We will do our best to find out causes of defeat (in SA) by holding in-depth inquiry" : Ehsan Mani

ISLAMABAD: Chair*man Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani, while holding a media talk here on Saturday at the 4th AHC-PCB Girls Cricket Cup held at the Marghazar Cricket Ground, said the performance of the national cricket team was quite poor in the recent Test series against South Africa which has disappointed the fans back home and the board will be holding an inquiry into it after the series.

“Yes indeed, everyone is disappointed with the way our team played in the Test series in South Africa,” he said after the event held jointly by Australian High Commission and the PCB with an objective to empower women giving them an opportunity to exhibit their capabilities. “We will do our best to find out the causes of defeat by holding an in-depth inquiry.”

Mani, who was chief guest at the event, appreciated the girls for showing a great game at the AHC-PCB Girls Cricket Cup . He stressed the need for holding such events across the country to bring about new blood in the sports. He said the country lacked a structure that could train the youngsters in sports starting from the school level. He said the international women team was doing good but new players were not being injected into it.

To a question, he said the sports federations could not merely be run through government funding rather they were sponsored by big companies and advertisements.Girls teams from four schools, including Special Education School for Girls with Hearing Impairment H-9, Mashal Model School Bari Imam, Pakistan Sweet Homes H-9/4 and Islamabad Model School for Girls I-9/1 Islamabad took part in the event.

The Mashal Model School Bari Imam won the cup by seven wickets in its final competition against Islamabad Model School for Girls I-9/1. In the allocated 10 overs, Islamabad Model School for Girls I-9/1 scored 86 runs and that target was successfully chased by the competitor team at three-wicket loss. Sakina was declared as the player of the tournament for scoring 179 runs throughout the event.

The teams were given trophies while Australias Acting High Commissioner to Pakistan, Brek Batley presented an autographed bat of the Australian Cricket Team to the best player of the tournament. The girls attended a five-day coaching clinic in the lead-up to the competition conducted by first class women cricketers and PCB coach Farrukh Hayat.

There's no need an enquiry. Everyone knows the preparation was far inadequate and the only people responsible are the PCB members who organized the schedule.

Why is there a need for an inquiry? Can't the other team be better than yours?

Maybe if you’d bothered to arrive three weeks earlier?

Inquiry? We are mediocre side with no world class players. We have lost Tests against New Zealand and West Indies at home. We have a club level player as our Test captain.

I think the inquiry is in order. Team is not great but played below their potential, lost wickets in clumps, has to come to terms with seniors decline, captain selection etc.

So the inquiry is very much in order.

However, I expect Mani to be docile and make wrong or worse, no calls.

There are graver things to set up an inquiry about than a cricket tour lol.

Maybe if you’d bothered to arrive three weeks earlier?

This. Along with, I don't know, admitting that South Africa are simply a better team in their own conditions? They did beat seven teams in a row and not just Pakistan.

Trying to set up an enquiry just shows that you are ignorant on matters of the cricket team. Why does the head of the PCB need to set up an enquiry? He needs to know in depth the details about where the team stands and what needs to be done to improve it.

These enquiries are a waste of time. The problem was that firstly, our batsman lacked courage and got easily intimidated by short bowling and that's about it.

What was the outcome of last inquiry for losses in UAE against SL, NZ and WI?

Talking about just performance in SA won't give a complete picture.

Maybe he is going to get to the bottom of issues so its fine - I have no problem but there should be clear outcomes of this exercise and not some behind the scenes thing which no one will remember.

Pakistan Cricket Board will set up an inquiry to find out the reasons behind the national team’s poor performance in the recent three-Test series against South Africa, said its chairman Ehsan Mani. Pakistan suffered a 0-3 defeat to South Africa in the Test series and Mani said that recent results are disappointing and understandably cricket fans were also upset with the Test performances.

Talking to the media in Islamabad, Mani said that after the tour to South Africa is over, the PCB would have an inquiry into the team’s poor Test performances. “No doubt everyone is disappointed with the way our team played in the Test series in South Africa. We will do our best to find out the causes of defeat by holding an in-depth inquiry,” Mani said.

Pakistan was whitewashed by the South Africans and before that they lost a three-match Test series to New Zealand in the UAE by 1-2. A well-informed source in the board told PTI that Mani had already spoken to the head of the cricket committee, Mohsin Khan and asked him to meet with his committee members and prepare a report on what they felt went wrong in the Test matches.

The cricket committee also includes former captains, Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq and former national women’s team skipper, Urooj Mumtaz. Though the cricket committee can only recommend and make suggestions to the Chairman but the source said that they had been closely watching the performances of the Pakistan team and had some reservations over some selections and other issues.

Pakistan bounced back in the first match of the five-match one-day international series, winning by five wickets on Saturday. Mani also said that the PCB was paying a lot of attention to the national women’s team and providing more facilities and structure for women’s cricket.

I just find this a little ridiculous that a person who was nowhere close to the PCT has been asked to prepare a report for the failures in SA. How would Mohsin Khan (or any one who isn't part of the PCT in SA) would know what went well vs what went wrong?

Also, I am not comfortable with the word "felt" there. Really? Mohsin Khan to prepare a report based on what he "felt" went wrong? Feelings are subjective. Facts are undisputable.

Anyway, not sure when Mohsin Khan or anybody involved in creating this report will do this since the PCT is in SA and right after they come back, PSL will start in Dubai. Unless PCB is thinking of sending Mohsin Khan & his team (Wasim, Misbah, Urooj) to SA to chat with Sarfaraz, Players, Mickey & other coaches.

This place a week ago *Mani should come out and state what went wrong*

Today, Mani *We'll hold in-depth inquiry*

Now some users " You don't need an inquiry" and "Why do we need an inquiry?"

:))

He is right. We need an “inquiry” to come to the conclusion that we are a poor team.

Great. I foresee a list of interesting :quote: recommendations :quote:

Enquiry commitee will definetly need to travel to SA and stay for 2 weeks. They will need to stay at 5 star hotels and visit some tourist destinations to verify if that affected batting and bowling skills negatively. The african safari will be a key place to visit to see if captaincy was affected. Then after 2 weeks returning by business class, the enquiry comitee will be able to identify what went wrong

Inquiry? Disappointing! Haroon Rasheed will be the head of the committee obviously.

Same old drama under Ehsan Mania.

One inquiry was announced when Pakistan lost to India in CT 2017 in the group stage. Everyone forgot about conducting that inquiry after Pakistan won that tournament.
