Pakistanis are understandably unhappy with the decision by the SL players to not tour Pakistan but is there a SL side of the story that we should also consider?

Given the evidence of the number of successful matches the PCB has held in Pakistan from 2015 to now, yes, not justified.
We have a strong lobby in the form of our petty neighbor who have a population of 1.4 billion but like picking on a smaller country with less than 200 million people so nothing will come easy for us, we must still support our brand and cricket regardless of circumstance. No more cricket in Dubai.

Players have the right to decline any tour. They are independent professionals.
However, considering presidential security, they shouldn't have declined to tour.

Does anyone know how much money they were being offered, because Perera came last time, so for at least him I doubt security is the issue.

Are you worried about an Indian sponsored attack?
SL cricket board, must have accepted the tour invitation after all their home work and reports from their own security experts. After that there was no reason for "senior" players other than lack of financial attraction to deny the tour.
Now the junior cricketers are coming, their life is as precious as of "seniors" but they have more to gain from the tour, hence agreed.
If Thisara Perera could come in 2017, why he could not come now as the security situation and perception is even better now.
How come contracted players were given a choice when Board and security experts gave them the green signal.

Didnt Pakistan tour SL after the civil war in SL in which thousands were killed? Really shows who true friends really are.
The players who have wives and young kids, it's not worth it. The risk is far greater than the reward. What I would give to see Pakistan go with a four man pace attack composed of Hasnain, Haris, Naseem and Musa/Arshad. That would be a dream come true. Imagine the goosebumps!

I think PCB needs to use simple numbers to prove whe 2019 is different than 2009 or other years when Pakistan had a violence. A chart like speaks for itself:

Our board has a problem with appeasing others and im pretty sure if any player would had pulled out they would had not been selected again.
Sri lanka board did the right thing by asking their players here and they cant force the players due to the past. The attacks did happen on the srilankan team.
As for Perera, he is being rational. Any player would choose a t20 league nowdays and he took the oppurtunity of the players boycott.
You cant blame anyone here. Not sri lanka cricket nor pcb. The situation is as such.
I think crickets return to Pakistan is linked with PSL. If we can get a few well branded and marketted PSl tournys in Pakistan, only than we will start seeing matches
Im usually not a conspiracy theorist but Im sorry I think IPL/Indian influence is at play here. To say Pakistan is viewed in the same context as Afghanistan is simply not the reality. Take a plane to Karachi/Lahore/Islamabad and you are likely to a lot more foreigners than you would on any plane to Kabul. To say that over the past 5 years those cities are any more dangerous thank Colombo or Dhaka is simply not true.
Its time our players started hitting back. Our top stars should be boycotting places like SL and BD.

At the end of the day it's their choice. Disappointing for us but that's just how it is.
I dont agree they were justified at all....i think it is a lobby against us. Look at prime examples in Newzealand..Bangla team were 2 minutes away ...Srilanka incident is another one...yet we sent our teams otherwise other countries could have stopped coming.
I do understand the concerns but we are talking about nearly a decade now and security will be full prooof.

In the future, SLC or any other board should ask the players first before they have made their final decision to tour Pakistan. No point in sending second-string teams that are going to provide boring, one-sided contests.

India had 218 fatalities due to terrorism in 2019, from which 124 were terrorists. Pakistan had 228 from which 56 were terrorists. Still everyone tours India...

It would have been understandable 3-4 years ago but not now. Players are declining either because of Indian pressure or just to get a few days off because they feel they can get away with it. PCB should take a strong stance and warn Srilanka of repercussions.

Answer is obvious but contracted players follow board's orders when required for national duties. Why Shadab and Hasnain are coming back from CPL after just playing 3 matches each, PCB want them back.

I said justified because they would know players who were on that tour and it must have been a pretty traumatic experience for them. But if it is because of money or pressure from India then they are not justified and should do their bit to bring cricket back to Pakistan as lovers of the game... there is a moral imperative there for cricket fans all over the world, not just Pakistanis.
The 2017 visit convinced him that safety still wasn't good enough. That's another way to look at it.

It's fine. Can't abuse them for not coming Pakistan. These guys have families too, could be a case the players are fine but their families don't want them to go.

You say "after 2009" like it was 40 years ago and they've hosted a hundred international matches without incident since then.
2009 happened. International cricketers were directly attacked. Pretty ridiculous for people to think that it's not justified for these cricketers and their families to worry about their safety just because no cricketer was shot since 2009.
So your saying it will take one incident in India to get rid of International cricket for 40 years. Despite them having more terror attacks than Pakistan.

I'm saying a terrorist attack on cricketers will have cricketers and their families fearing for their safety.

Money can make a player twist his morals and risk his life a two pence more.
Perception can change many things in life. Perception is Nz is safe, India is safe, heck even Ban is safer to tour than Pakistan.
And once that perception exists, nothing besides money matters in sealing a foregone conclusion.
Pakistan will need to totally become a Dubai based model of tall buildings, economic progress and strong sense of justice to get past the perception roadblock.
And that will take years not days, provided governments dont get toppled again and again.
