What's new

West Indies [318 & 200/6] beat England [204 & 313] by 4 wickets in the first Test at Southampton

Can England win a single Test without Root and Stokes? That's the question.

Stokes has bailed them out during the Ashes.

Crowd makes a big difference. We have seen that in the premier league with the weak teams getting squashed with greater frequency.

England would probably have won with crowd support.

said same earlier

plus this WI team not experienced

His 4th innings average is 25 or something so he's not bad by any means but your question is flawed to begin with. Most fast bowlers will not have great match winning spells for the 4th innings because if the match is getting that far; the pitch has broken up and you are going to rely on and back your spinners.

So it is a flawed question.

First time I have heard fast bowlers can't be expected to deliver match winning spells in the 4th innings and it is the domain of spinners.:wasim

Pakistan should crush this England side 2-1.

I think this England side will lose against Afghanistan on a dust bowl pitch.

27 more needed. Well done, WI.

Pakistan’s bowling while has potential but is inexperienced.

Would have won them the game and got a century had Blackwood kept his cool and not go for the shot.

Back in 2017 5 to win and he was near a 50 he did the same gave it away and now again.

10 more needed.

Isn't Campbell injured? Why is he batting now? He should've batted last.

Denly, Wood, Bess out.

Root, Broad, Leach in.

yup. Bess is legit very ordinary.

you know things not good if spinner only getting 10 overs on day 5 pitch.

Right I've spent almost the entire day out so just back in time to see West Indies hit the winning runs.

I don't know why England play Leach or Bess over Moeen.

Moeen can bat also.

so you want to solve England's problem of spin bowler not taking enough wickets by bringing in a spinner with averages close to 40?

Moeen averages like that because England is not exactly a paradise for spinners.

It is not like Bess and Leach have set the world on fire. Other spinners don't look impressive.

Moeen can bat also.

you been sunbathing in Endcliffe Park.

No I made the trip to Bolton Abbey with a couple of mates and got lost in the middle of nowhere (with no map), with no bloody internet signal to find out the score.

Mercifully the WI batsmen have kindly dragged this chase out :))

Stokes to finish with a 5-fer in this test.

This prediction will become as true as the Jos Buttler potential ATG thread.

Mamoon coming up as usual with something twisted comments :)) but agree with some of the points he said.

The best way to defend a bouncer is to dance down the wicket :yk

Campbell to hit the winning runs with a Dilscoop.

He wound up Stuart Broad trying that shot facing the new ball in the Caribbean last year :))

Count yourself blessed! I've been waiting for something like that to happen to me, we too use to google maps :yk

Wow Mark Wood is such a douche, if someone gave me a bit of a word after a ball like that I would swear at them multiple times

5 more needed.

England should've started bowling negative line at least 1 hour ago. They could've salvaged a draw.

This WI team is genuine and hardworking team. Captain leading from the front.
LOI team is completely opposite.

Ideally want to see Holder win the game with a 6 off Stokes #Bants :))

There you go they've done it!

Brilliant game to resume cricket. Amazing from the Windies. The game appropriately ends with Holding and Bishop in the commentary box

Robert was doing a bhangra over Denly a few days ago, what happened ? :yk3

Congrats to the windies. Blackwood played a beauty of a knock.

But my man of the match is Shannon Gabriel

Outstanding ! Congratulations West Indies. Away Test wins for West Indies since 2000 have been like goldust.

Exc. Zimbabwe and Bangladesh - WI have only beaten England (Edgbaston 2000 and Headingley 2017), South Africa (Port Elizabeth 2007) and Pakistan (Sharjah 2016).

They've added another to the list.

the key here was shannon gabriel. hope he gets man of the match but i dont think he will
that 2nd innings fivefor was so clutch . shannon gabriel is a seriously good bowler

Lol he asked whether campbell was alright or not. Such poor lip reading skills

Tremendous win and even more euphoric in the current circumstances, this may also have been the most watched Test in sky sports history. This WI team to me is much better then what their ranking suggests imo just need to put together a few string of Test series wins and they have a chance here to make history

What a way to finish of the match, feeling bad for blackwood for missing out a century.

It's amazing how England continues to lose test matches to this team. This must the 6th test loss in the last 11 years or so. To put it in context, india have not lost a single test match to WI in 18 years and Australia have not lost one in 17.

Congrats WIN. What a fantastic captain this Holder guy is - the modern Frank Worrell of WIN cricket.

Just one more quality batsman, they’ll make every team fight on pacers’ track.

lol and theyve gotten all out to WI under 100 several times too in last 10-15 years

Every team is good at home and poor away. But this is the difference between India and others sides. India would never drop a test against WI at home.
