West Indies (85/5) vs Pakistan - match abandoned after persistent rain in Bridgetown

So its going to become a 3 match T20 series now which was first in the schedule earlier this year. However these 2 T20s (One gone and other potentially) have taken a test match with them as it was originally a 3 match series.

Is the test series part of WTC?

10.53m It is still pelting down at the ground. But remember, we can wait until 1.16pm for a five-over shootout.

Why cut off at 116 pm. They can wait till evening. Stupid cricket rules

We have two behemoths (literally) on the field today.

Nawaz is a better spinner than Usman Qadir. Our selections have been awful not just for the final eleven but the overall squad selections as well.

what rubbish you are speaking

Looking at the WI side they are getting ready for the WT20..

For a long time havent seen Pollard, Russell , Bravo and Gayle play in one team..

That batting list would scare anyone to bowl at.. Balls will disappear all parts of the ground..

Their two new spinners in Walsh and Akeal Hosein are also coming good..

The middle order of pooran and hetmyer also looks strong... Cant see a weak link for a T20 side..
Pakistan might have a nightmare of a series if they play like they did against England..

I think Qadir gets the edge with googly (Taking the ball away from Lefties). 4 out of top 5 of WI are lefties so that would have played a role.

Otherwise I think Nawaz has been really good since the comeback against SA in Pak and then in SA as well so was really surprised when he didnt get a game in Eng.

WI have such power hitters, they would hit a six off every loose delivery and Usman provides a lot of them due to his poor control. The spinners who have succeeded against WI batters are usually the ones who keep it tight and are accurate.

Yes, it's only a T20 game, they should have more flexibility you would have thought. Anyway if they can't get at least a 15 over game in then I am not that interested in some 5 over farce. Just have to see if we can get a full game in the next one.

11:25pm Right, really diverse answers. Pleasantly surprised. Reminder that there's no word on a start yet, and 1:16pm is the latest a 5-over game can begin. That's just under two hours away

Any update on weather?

As per a cricket app, overs have started to shrink. Rain has slowed down a bit but, only the playing square is covered so rest of the ground will take some time to clear up if an when rain stops.

They can play T1.
It's quite popular in Pakistan ... all these guys like Karnal Zahid, Zaheer Kalia, Taimur Mirza, Chota Vicky etc ... are masters of it. We can make an international T1 team with them.

Just hold for a while. We can play a 10 overs match if you don't fancy a 5 overs contest but don't think there's time left for a 15 overs match now. 😁

Sir Curtly Ambrose:

"Pakistan always produces some great cricketers; Pakistan and West Indies are very similar in terms of the fact that they can blow very hot or very cold, so that will make this series very very interesting"

"Pakistan may relish these conditions as they are similar to what they have in Pakistan, so it will be interesting to see if they can really adapt to the conditions in the Caribbean"

Why? Is this game not under floodlights?

Have seen some of the videos of Taimur Mirza and Bantu Bhai.

The are quite skilful in this.

T1 is too long for my attention span. Make it T0.5 as these are modern times :djb

WI hitters would love 5-10 overs match if it takes place. They will definitely have the advantage

Doubt there’s going to be a game. Locals reporting heavy rain pour. Hasn’t stopped drizzling throughout the day.

I guess Rain will stop at 1pm local time. Match will be called off due to wet outfield and then for rest of the day sun will break out making us all look very silly

The rain got very slow for a while, not sure if it picked up against after that.

WI played 5 T20s against SA, 5 T20s followed by 3 Odis against Australia and not even a single match got washed out..

As soon as series against Pakistan starts, first the Test match gets scrapped to accommodate extra T20s and now 2 T20s are on the verge of being cancelled.

So, Good news rain has stopped umpire and ground staff on the ground. teams warming up their is a puddle beside the pitch which need some repair. looks like we will have a game

Update from Barbados:

Covers have been removed and an inspection is going on.

Next T20 while in Guyana, is 3 days away, if logistics allow I dont think it would be impossible to play this T20 tmw morning if it isnt feasible today. Would be worth looking at the idea to have a couple of reserve days on a tour for such cases. World cricket needs to think about different options to minimize the impact of rain on cricket.

If the game is 5 overs they will miss Imad and Rizwan should have been dropped for Maqsood

Sky is clear and their is no rain. its the shortest format just get on with it ***

Thier should always be reserve days I don't see why they don't have it in a series

It was a 2 test match series from the onset though a T20 got scrapped.

It's nature really, you can't just change it around as you have broadcasters and all that other sweet stuff to think about.

The test match for your information according to what Wasim Khan has said was purely financial and WI couldn't afford to host a 3 match series.

Update:

Nine overs match
Starting time:12:45 local

Let's celebrate that the match is on. Will think about the result later 😁

Agreed its nature however 3 days gap, broadcasters would be more than happy to show a complete match I think. It wont impact the schedule unlike when first T20 was excluded. As I said if logistics allow you which it can (Same venue) than worth exploring as option. I understand a lot of variables involved but, dont think its an impossible task if considered.

Well in that case, i think they should analyse the weather a week leading to the game and then with consultation from both sides move the match time back or forward to accommodate a full game. This should be something feasible in my eyes and then broadcasters or whatever can shuffle their programming.

What a tough day to debut from Wasim Jr with 9 overs match.

Silly rules....why not play the whole 20 overs instead of this 9 over dash.

They literally have the whole day available to play

Mohammad Wasim Jr to Simmons, no run, Mohammad Wasim has knocked down Simmons with a 142kph bumper! Short and angled in, Simmons backs away to pull and is beaten for pace. Missed the top edge hit his neck on the right side

Broadcasting etc. You cant just decide to broadcadt your show for whole day who you have to buy space

I think it wasn't easy to just come out to bat on a pitch that was under the covers for so long. Slight advantage Pakistan there.
