West Indies reach 49/1 at Stumps on Day 4, with 280 runs needed to win the 2nd Test against Pakistan

Can't believe I'm saying this but give Butt the strike.

If he scores a 50 here i will applaud him.

Suicidal. They must take game out of reach so West Indies have only defense and negative mindset as an option. 300 is doable with luck. 350-375 is my target - assuming overs are not under threat due to rain and bad light.
 
C'mon Azhar just throw the bat man, doesn't matter if you get out trying.

Dont mind losing if this WI batting chases 300+. That will be kudos to them but, Pak needs to take its chances to level the series

pakistan need to win the game here, draw is not going to help. if pakistan lose 2-0 trying to draw 1-1 so be it. need to be brave here.

Not needed Pak just need 300, you gotta back yourself to defend 300.

WI aren't going to chase 300 plus weather today is good as well as tomorrow.
 
Azhar needs to give Butt strike here and stop killing the momentum of the inns.
 
Even Ian Bishop seems to be suggesting that 'Misbah' will decide on the declaration based on how the innings shapes up at tea.
Interesting how he said Misbah, and not Babar?
 
Misbah strategy is to play like cornered kittens when it comes to opening. Maybe if players are allowed to thriveand express themselves, we'd see why they might be picked in the first place.
 
Joking aside we gotta applaud our boy Butt for this and i have to say it selfless knock.

For once I disagree with you. Fawad can score at a reasonable rate. Azhar should not have batted at all.They can do long handle batting from Hasan and Faheem or even Rizwan in last 5 overs they intend to bat.

For singles and doubles Fawad is pretty good. However, he doesn’t necessarily have the big shots for the situation in my opinion to get 4s and 6s.
 
Pakistan would want to bowl at least 15 overs tonight and have a lead of 350-375. Not difficult to do.
 
Babar telling the more experienced test batsmen where to stand for the negative bowling.

For a good bowling attack, 320 would be enough. Not for this Pakistani attack. If WI string a partnership or two and play at 4 RPO for 15-20 overs, panic will strike within the Pakistan camp. Ideally you want the bowlers here to bowl without worry of a defeat.

I am all for aggressive mindset but to me today, that includes batting West Indies out of the game and rather quickly. That will leave only two results on the table for them and a negative mindset. Why allow the possibility of a West Indies win when Pakistan doesn’t need to. Enough overs and time.

I guess I am disagreeing with almost everyone here.
 
There's absolutely zero need to hitting the bit shots. With the field spread out, all you need to do is pick up 6 singles in an over. How hard is that to do?
 
If I was a professional cricketer, I'd be migty embarrassed getting out to that delivery. That's a ball you'd bowl to first timers! For a professional batsman to get out to that is just so shocking!

I agree but Pak pacers have bowled well in this series without any help from spinners. This WI team will crack more under pressure and pitch deteoriating a bit, and with Nauman hopefully cooming into play too. I do not feel WII will have enough time ro score 320 if Pak only bowl about 10 overs to them tonight. Bad light will not allow many overs,so they need to quickly score 65 runs and start bowling.
 
WI time wasting already. pakistan need to get a move on after tea. thank god azhar got out.

If you've followed Pakistan cricket, you should know that expecting them to play smart is just ridiculous. Our players aren't sharp and are very limited when it comes to understanding the tactics of the game.

This is where Fawad would be the best man to come in next and should have come before Azhar too.
 
WI over rates in this game so far have been pathetic and ICC need to do something about this.
 
I liked this outside leg stump stuff from WIN. Made me think back to the good old days of PAK being a good team with Majid Khan taking the stumps out and pegging them two feet outside leg when Kapil kept bowling down the leg side.
 
Windies are getting more rubbish by the day. To lose the 1st test to this team is a disgrace!

The bowlers have been exceptional this series.

If Pakistan put up a target of 320 and WI chase that on 5th day, then you simply have to tip your cap. It's as simple as that.

Pakistan need to give themselves around 110-115 overs at least to bowl out WI. In the 3rd Test of 2017, it took 96 overs to bowl WI out and there are only 1 over left. Pakistan have to give themselves a similar type of margin to bowl them out.

If they chase, it is what it is and hats off to WI but the goal should be to go for a clear win and not maybe 50% chance to win.
