Cricket West Indies Announces Historic T20I Series Against Emerging Nation, Nepal

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is pleased to announce the region’s participation in a historic three-match T20 International series against the Asian nation of Nepal, the first-ever bilateral series between the two teams, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing mission to grow and globalize the game of cricket.

Taking place in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates on September 27, 28, and 30, 2025, the series is being hosted by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and represents a landmark opportunity for Nepal as it gears up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier later this year.

For CWI, the engagement reflects its strong commitment to supporting the development of cricket in emerging nations and fostering meaningful partnerships with fellow cricketing boards worldwide.

Speaking on the importance of this occasion, CWI CEO Chris Dehring stated:

“This series is more than just a set of international matches—it’s a celebration of the game’s expanding global footprint and a testament to what cricket represents: pride, purpose, and the power of unity. As a full-member nation, we see it as part of our responsibility to contribute to the development of cricket beyond our borders. Supporting Nepal in this key phase of their cricketing journey not only builds the sport at the grassroots and international levels but also reminds us of the deep pride and honour associated with representing our nation and wearing our national colours. We are proud to stand with Nepal at this moment in their history and look forward to exciting and competitive cricket in Sharjah.”

The West Indies team, known for its rich legacy and dynamic style of play, is expected to field a competitive squad that will offer Nepal critical exposure ahead of their World Cup qualifying campaign. The series also provides an opportunity for players and fans alike to experience the spirit of international cricket in a vibrant, neutral venue.

Cricket West Indies extends its sincere thanks to the Cricket Association of Nepal and the Emirates Cricket Board for their collaboration in organizing the series and looks forward to continuing to work together towards advancing the global growth and accessibility of the game of cricket.

Match Schedule (All Matches @Sharjah, UAE):

1st T20I – September 27, 2025

2nd T20I – September 28, 2025

3rd T20I – September 30, 2025

Great exposure for Nepal.

I think Nepal can win the series if they produce turning tracks. Windies aren't great at playing spin.

Fresh faces included as West Indies announce squad for Nepal

Five players in line for their international debut as the West Indies reveal their squad to face Nepal.

The West Indies have named a 15-player squad for this month's three-match T20I series against Nepal in Sharjah.

The Caribbean side have decided to rest a host of key players, with skipper Shai Hope, pacer Alzarri Joseph and batter Johnson Charles among the white-ball stars that will sit out the series.

Cup 2024.

It will see spinner Akeal Hosein lead the side as captain, with fellow regulars Fabian Allen, Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers to provide support during the three matches that commence on September 27.

A total of five players are in line for their international debut during the series, with batter Ackeem Auguste, all-rounder Navin Bidaisee, spinner Zishan Motara, pacer Ramon Simmonds and keeper Amir Jangoo all included in the playing group.

Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe said the series will provide the side with opportunities to impress ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka at the start of next year.

“This series against Nepal is another important step in broadening the horizons of West Indies cricket. It allows our senior men’s team to engage with a passionate emerging nation while providing invaluable match experience in different conditions," he said.

“Beyond the immediate competition, this tour speaks to our long-term vision of developing a squad that is adaptable, resilient and ready for global challenges. Taking West Indies cricket into new territories and against new opposition also helps us grow the game, inspire new fans, and strengthen the brand of West Indies cricket worldwide.”

I am expecting Nepal to win at least one game.

Lamichhane should have a good time.

Nepal 148/8(20 over)

WI 71/5 in 13 over .. they need another 78 runs in 7 over.

Great chance for Nepal to register first win against Westindies

:kp

Another wicket. Holder departs.

WI - 76/6 (14.1 overs).

Nepal are close to causing an upset.

Watching the game live on YouTube.

Good crowd today. Most of these are probably Nepalese fans.

Windies need 41 to win from 15 balls. Should be difficult. Only 3 wickets left.

Nepal have this in the bag.

Good match.

KC bowling right arm over the wicket to right hander. Reminds me of Stuart Broad

Nepal are on the verge of making history. They have never beaten a top 10 team. Today is a chance.

Windies need 28 from 7.

All over. Nepal have upset the Windies. They have defeated West Indies by 19 runs and go up 1-0.

Congratulations, Nepal.

@JaDed

Ah finally!! need more wins to make it to major tournaments!

They were looking good for Asia Cup qualification but Hong Kong upset them.

Nepal are probably 3-4 times better than Hong Kong and Oman. They simply had a bad day in the qualification round.

I have lost count of how many matches WI lost in recent times. I have no idea how they are ranked so much higher than all of the Asian teams beside India. 🤷‍♂️

What a win for Nepal... I think this is the first time that they have beaten any full member team...

Yes. This was the first time they beat an established Test team.

They came close to beating South Africa in 2024 World T20 also. SA managed to win by just 1 run.
By these windies guys always give their best in the tournaments... In bilaterals, they play like kittens.

Windies should quit cricket and stick to athletics. They keep sinking lower and lower.

They were missing their entire first and second choice batsmen (King, Lewis, Chase, Hope, Rutherford, Hetmyer, Romario, Rovman)and also 2 of their main bowlers in Alzarri and Motie and this was in Sharjah which is notorious for being a bat first pitch.

.

If you think BD fans are obnixous, wait till you see Nepalese fans :kp

Nepal lost against BD HP team and Pak Shaheen team. So, considering that, this is great result for them.

Why do you sound anti-Nepal? LOL.

When it comes to being obnoxious, Indian cricket fans are #1. No other nationality comes close.

This is a great result for Nepal regardless of other results. They have just beaten a 4-time World Champions. Good for them.

I am a well-wisher of Nepalese cricket. Hoping for them to improve further.

That is a young west Inbdies team with new players given a chance at international level. BTW we beat Pakistan in the Caribbean 3-2 in the odis. So what does that say about Pakistan? They should stick to Hockey?🤣:ROFLMAO:😂

T20 format is a flaky format. Unless the gap between the team is massive these things are normal. Besides team gelling is important. You cannot assemble a random set of good players expect them to be in sync with each other right of the bat.

I have seen you make this point before and I think it has some validity but not totally. As a general point how much you think team being in sync has an effect on t20 performance. Will a batsman stop hitting sixes and bowler not his their lengths because the team is out of sync?

I am not disagreeing with you just curious as to your point of view because you can argue sync factor is less in T20 than other format, and that it's basically 11 individuals V 11 individuals in a sense?

Nepal have their own franchise league. They play there I guess.

Anyway, they have some great spinners. Their weakness is batting.
I saw them play Scotland live a few months ago it was nice cricket had a village feel rather than international due to the surroundings and low crowd but I didn't really take note of their players.

It is nice that they are indigenous players and have grown the game at their own pace.

Yes.

Cricket is quite popular in Nepal. All of their players are ethnic Nepalese players.

Bhutan is the same but they didn’t make as much progresses as Nepal.

I am a firm believer of team gelling. role clarity. Sometimes your approach becomes muddled. world XI vs Australia match was like that. THey had Lara, Sehwag, Kallis, Graeme smith all the big guns. But folded like a cheap suit against Stuart McGill.

2nd T20I.

Nepal won the toss and elected to bat first.

NEP - 116/3 (15.3 overs).

Great start for Nepal. If they win today, they win the series.

NEP - 121/3 (16 overs).

4 more overs.

I think 150 should be difficult for Windies in Sharjah. Nepal have some great spinners.

Nepal finish at 173/6 after 20 overs.

Windies need 174 to win. It should be too much for them.

Nepal are on the verge of making history.

Kyle myers has international experience. Jewel andrew has been part of the set up for a while. Augustus is also a star player for Windies in CPL. These are very close to playing for their country. Carty is also a regular. Fabian Allen, Akeale hosien, Holder they are already veterans. This is not some rubbish second string team.

LOL. Windies lost 2 more wickets.

WI - 64/5 (12 overs).

110 to win from 48 balls.

Nepal have used 7 bowlers. They have so many good slow bowlers. Effective on slow surfaces (like Sharjah).

7 down now.

Windies are looking at a big defeat.

WI - 74/7 (13.4 overs).

100 to win from 37 balls.

Stuart Law (former Bangladesh and West Indies coach) is now the coach of Nepal. Looks like he has done a good job.

Now that T20 is globalized, I have a feeling, one day one of the Asian teams will lose against Brazil, Argentina, or Italy in Cricket too.

Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora's 100-run partnership is NEP's highest for the 4th wicket in T20Is, breaking the record of 99 between Aasif Sheikh and Rohit Paudel.

Congratulations Nepal team. Well deserved victory.

They should have played Asia cup over hongkong/ Oman
