West Indies v Australia | 2nd Test | Port of Spain | Apr 15-19, 2012

Hahahahaha who said that? Random and fantastic.

Once again Watto fluffs it after getting to fifty. That's never going to win you a test.

This is beyond a joke now. Cant believe the guy, he is freakishly consistent, makes between 30-60 almost every single innings.

And yep, fifties dont win you Test matches.

WI giving good fight here, India should adopt them as role models.

Watson is causing a bit of headache for the selectors. A top order batsman should be scoring 100s not 50s but on the other hand is very consistent. If I was the selector I would make him bat number at number 5 or 6 and get more overs out of him while bowling.

The 1st day was a serious slow grind if ive ever saw one! Still Aussies strong tail to come so W.I are in for another tough day in the field.

Roach strikes early.

Nice bowling from Roach.

Wade hasn't impressed so far with the bat.

roach takes five. good job!!! windies should drop their habit of failing in 2nd innings. happening way too often to be mere coincidence.

Hussey played a good inning. Always a handy player in such situations.

West Indies lost the last match from a good position, collapsing in the second innings. Hope they win this match, to liven up the series.

They won't make more than 150 batting last on this pitch.

It will be a minefield by late day 3.

They may not make 150 in their first innings either.

Umpire & Windies mess up another referral.

Powell out to a ball pitched outside leg & chose not to review it !

Aus. refuses to play since there is powercut, so DRS won't be available.

This is ridiculous.

Game on.

Bravo & Chanders looking settled. Much better than yesterday.

LOL @ Jesse_Hogan (who?) from Cricinfo:

"Afridi-like Test leadership there from Sammy. A third for Lyon."

Now his forth. Windies stuttering and stuttering fast.

Right, this team will manage to hold on against England in English conditions to deny them a 2-0 or better victory.

The second match that Windies should have drawn but will now probably lose. Disappointing.

Must applaud Clark's captaincy here, his change of bowlers from occasional and not-so-occasional (hussey) has usually resulted him a wicket.

So said to see WI struggling w/o their premier players Gayle, Pollard and Bravo. With those players, I am sure, they would have beaten Aussies at least in 1 Test.

Are you kidding me?

Sammy's shot just demonstrates why these kind of players are not suitable and adaptable to every format. Strokeplay is not everything.

Moronic shot from Sammy given the circumstances.

Wrong.

Gayles form in tests the last 3 years he played tests was superb, he averaged 53, 49 & 58 in those years (2008-2010) & 6 centuries. He is badly missed in tests with their inexperienced top order. Compare that to Barath, Powell, Braithwaitte etc.

Pollards recent improvement in ODI cricket, where he has shown he can bat longer and build and innings & produce under pressure makes me think he could do a Warner & adapt to tests too. A hard hitting no 6 or 7 ala Flintoff.

His mediums could do Sammy's holding bowler role well too.

facepalm

west indies just dont seem to be able to do anything quite right. had they just got a little bit closer to 300 they'd have been in with a real shout imo, but it's not going to be very difficult for australia to build a match winning lead from here.

Windies really not playing well today.

First Baugh gets stupid in the first over, then they drop two catches.

Beginning of the end for Sammy.

As much as it's painful for me to say this, but Edwards need to sit out for next match and play Ravi, as Roach has gained his form back.

Ravi, Roach and Sammy all three are wicket takers.

Man this rain is so annoying!
I thought it was bad here in the UK!....well it is...but still! :yk

In effect Aus 94/2.
WI have to try make sure they ball Aus out today without their lead going past 250 in my opinion to give themselves a chance of squaring the series.

Great by Roach.

Cowan is a really average player to me. An honest trier willing to gut it out there but looks short on talent. Preferred Hughes, guy had his faults but once in he often stayed in and made it count (and very difficult to get out after a point).

Don't want to be rude to the guy but he seems a bit of a misfit in the team. Doesn't look international class at all (nor the potential to be it). Hope he proves me wrong though.

Windies weather is probably one of the worst in cricketing history. Either use Floodlights or move the games from specific bad light arenas.

He'a battler. Would be doing well to average 40 IMO.

But he is the best option we have, Hughes is terrible. If Hughes can sort himself out yeah he is far more talented than Cowan. But talent alone does not make a world class cricketer see Afridi, S.

I am a bit surprised no one has mentioned this yet.. Wade is a very ordinary keeper. What happened to Tim Paine? He was a good keeper and a decent bat.

Pretty much rain has ruined any chances of a positive result here. Its a shame as match was pretty decently poised.

Paine has been slow recovering from a broken finger which required metal plates put in, a second operation, etc.

I would expect next season if Paine is recovered and able to play, he will push for Wade's place, first in ODI, then tests via that platform.

There is a small chance of a result via 2 avenues-

1. Oz bat 30 overs today & declare after some quickish runs, leaving WI 230-250 to chase in 55 overs while OZ tries to bowl them out. Risky but Clarke has shown he is an aggressive captain. Win for either team possible this way.

2. WI begin taking Aussie wickets in the morning, the run rate slows & the knock Oz over for a total lead of 200 or so. By then they probably have 40 overs max left to chase that.

Incredible catch by Sammy!

Oz effectively 5-150

If we Indies can keep taking wickets they are in with half a chance here.

77 overs. 25 overs to bowl oz out. Lose 2 overs change of innings. 50 overs to chase.

I hate this approach of Sammy from Dhoni's book, taking a few quick wickets then stay back waiting for batsmen to make mistakes, ditto Misbah

Epic match for Roach.

Me thinks ve vill see a result here.

64 overs left, minus 2 for change of innings, minus say 7 for bad light.

A lot can happen in 55 overs.

The Windies will definitely play for a draw here and should be very happy if the they achieve it. Its upto the Aussies to sparkle a genuine bowling performance.

Pattinson unable to bowl, 215 to win in 59 overs.

Come on Windies.

I would have LOVED to see west indies have a go at this target with the likes of Gayle, Pollard and Dwayne Bravo in the side!

Even so, i hope this team can pull it off....

...nvm Baratt out 10/2

Just checked the score. Clarke declares (160-8) when only 215 ahead!? How can you not like the Aussies? Always going for the win, that's the Aussie way!

Would our Uncle Tuk Tuk ever do that?:misbah

Great test match cricket by the two captains. Clarke makes a sporting declaration and Windies are going for it!

Look at his test captaincy record. Has he ever needed to make a sporting declaration?
