West Indies v india 4th test Jamaica

Maybe there are a tiny bit of double standards by some. However, when it comes to losing and making excuses the English are world champions at that and nobody comes even close. The English are so good at it that I can list you series lost from the 1990's onwards with an excuse for each: from umpiring, ball tampering, having the runs in India. i.e diorrhea etc.

Thats the point I'm trying to put across. England always puts across the same excuse when they lose, are not performing and etc. Pak on the other hand are usually drawing up petitions for the coach and captain to be sacked than making up excuses.

What is credible about either attitude? The culture of making scapegoats and having a moan, being in a bad mood, saying silly things etc when your team has lost is the same for EVERYBODY and its about time this was accepted.

And Whippy, are you basing this so called exhibiting double standards just because I pointed out to Playa some facts?

This is what I am talking about!

You said "if there were more tests and/or we hadn't had key players injured at points in the series the result might have been different". You say this is stating facts.

If I say "if we hadn't collapsed on the last day in Multan or if S Jones, Vaughan had been playing in all 3 tests, the result might have been different". If I say this, I am told I am making excuses!

How are the two so different? Double standards Uzzy!

Generally speaking i usually refer to the English Media and Fletcher as the prime culprits of making excuses. I'm sure even you would agree.

Rob, where do you live in Sutton Coldfield? I have a pair of grandparents on Halton Road...
yeah i know it well. Right by Sutton Park and Boldmere golf course.

What you have to set aside is the attitudes of the pure cricket fans from those of the journalists and the players / coaches etc. as to how they react to defeats. Irrespective of which team fans you are talking about, if you look from their angle, they will generally try to find excuses / resons for defeats.

English media and players though used to be terrible whingers in the early 90s, but the culture has changed in the recent past most definitely. If anything, Indians really are the worst whingers now, not the least confirmation thrown up by the farcical "mitigating ciurcumstances" lame attempt at diluting the reasons for major failures by their team coach. What a loser, literally!

BTW, how has India's insipid limping 1-0 win in the 4-Test Series V Woeful Windies changed the ICC Test Ratings now?

Also if there wasn't as many excuses coming from the England camp as there are now I'm sure people wouldn't mind accepting the facts. You have to agree.

Look at the recent world cup loss: the english media and pundits have gone mad and full of excuses blaming one man only for England's loss: Christiano Ronaldo.

Don't forget that the likes of Gerrard, Carragher and co. were too tired to take penalties.

:))) lol yeah thats another classic pathetic excuse to the list.

How come Carragher be tired? He came in minutes before the final whistle. Really their guys didn't have much of a chance given their apprehension of penalty shoot-outs in WC matches and Ricardo's unnerving brilliance and confidence.

As someone so brilliantly put in a thread in the WC 2006 forum, Carragher got tired from watching Sven for 118 minutes. :)))

Ricardo was absolutely brilliant, I agree. To save 3 out of 4 penalties, is simply superb.

Pak should have won 3-0 actually had there been any sane umpiring. We demolished them by 10 wickets in the first Test at Georgetown, one Test Windies got there by the tiniest of margins and the last was a nailbiter drawn. Some horrendous umpiring prevented Paks from steamrolling the WI team - those were the days of home umpires. If you think Doctrove is shocking, you know nothing of the ones officiating in the '87 Series.

And which players were missing from WI team that you talk about? I can't think of any.

To add to this, the umpire himself later admitted Pakistan did have the last man out but did not give it because he knew his life was in danger.

Yes. Read that in Imran's autobiography.
