What's new

West Indies v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Roseau, Dominica | May 10-14, 2017 | Day 2

Shame there is no 4th Test should have been one at Providence Guyana or Basettere St Kitts

Relax, this Pakistan team has never scored that slowly when scoring 400. If we can get past the new ball then we'll accelerate in the second half of the day when the bowlers start to tire and get to 400+ relatively comfortably.

I understand that no team scores over 3RPO in the Caribbeans, and I'm fine with a RR of about 2.5. What I'm not fine with is the fact that potentially at least 1 day will get washed out as forecasts predict.

In the first test I believe we had 4 days play but we scored 400 at a RR of 2.93, which is the reason why we got the result our way.

It's uncertain how many days we have to play with. If we do want to win, hovering on the lower side of the RR of 2 won't get us the victory unless our bowlers do some wonders with the ball. Reason why I said end of day 3 is because the rain will be a problem, and I'd rather mitigate its affect on the match by scoring a tad quicker, is all.

Azhar has played very well, gets stuck in and would be an annoying customer for any bowler around the world.

Didn't know Bishoo was as tall as Misbah.

ALways thought Bishoo was extremely short.

Some day ago Dr Nouman was advocating for Hafeez to be the next test captain since then haven't watched his show

Somebody hit a boundary already. Pitch is flat, bowlers are mediocre, just dominate these bowlers.

2 more for Azhar
And yes can't wait to see Arsenal gigging against Amortosis Famagusta and Shaktar Karagundy

When I say this team has never scored 400 that slowly, I mean we have literally never scored 400 that slowly.

I had this argument with Dr Bassim a while back because we was claiming that this team couldn't score 400 in less than two days so I looked it up and here were the results:

As is my wont, I went back and looked at the number of times Pakistan have scored 400+ at less than 2.5 RPO. I felt it was the right thing given that OP says he would be willing to bet his life on this team's slow scoring. Don't want to make mistakes when dealing with such monumental stakes.

So, in the last 20 years Pakistan have scored 400 runs or more at a run rate of less than 2.5 RPO on just two occasions.

New Zealand v Pakistan at Napier, Dec 11-15, 2009 - Pakistan batted 193.2 overs for 455 runs (2.35 RPO) in the third innings to successfully save the test.

Pakistan v England at Lahore, Nov 15-19, 2000 - England, choosing to bat after winning the toss, scored 480 in the first innings. A Pakistan team containing legendarily dour, defensive batsmen such as Saeed Anwar, Afridi, Inzi, Youhana and Razzaq raced to 401 all out from 163.3 overs (2.45 RPO).

Conclusion - The current Pakistan team has never scored that slowly when amassing big totals so the good doctor's life is now forfeit and in future we should refrain from making bold claims until we've had time to check the facts lest more PPers be forced to commit seppuku.

The slowest run rate for a 400+ innings under Misbah was 2.80 RPO when we scored 419/9d against Zimbabwe.

So again, relax. The run rate will take care of itself as long as we don't lose wickets.

Anyone would think we were batting on a day 5 mindfield the way the way have been batting today

So what's the plan to score runs? They don't even try to score runs off the pacers and apparently can't do it off Bishoo either now.

Pakistan are still the favourites to win this test but this is 8th ranked team and we can do so much better.

Everyone else makes valid points, like Fazeer saying we could play a bit more positively etc.

Enter Ramiz and he starts whining about wanting to sleep and how Azhar won't be more than a good opener if he can't hook or pull.

10o for Azhar Ali. Excellent innings. Kept it together.

Azhar Ali might open up now. :viv

Hahaha i am loving his commentary right now..

Azhar continues to be the rock on this team while everyone else crumbles around him.

Congrats on another 100 Azhar.

How many runs has Azhar got in calendar year so far remember he has 3 tests against Lankan trundlers later in UAE can he break moyos record

Pathetic batting so far today, are we playing for a draw here already, the way we are playing makes no sense! we need to be looking to get a big 1st inns total and get a move on with scoring even more so with bad weather forecast for the match.

story of Pak batting in the last decade!

instead of having an extra sense of urgency after that loss in the 2nd test and bad weather coming, they have taken another step back

RPO of 2.2 is beyond terrible, its laughable at this point

and every single batsmen has been guilty so far- all 5! as selfish as a team can get

Feel like smashing my head in to a wall. Its all too familiar , they will play out overs after overs and then they'll collapse for a mediocre total.

Ramiz has no mind of his own when he commentates, he will listen to what the other person is saying and then agree with them in the most hyperbolic terms possible.

Watch later on if these two bat deep into the second session and Fazeer or Bish say that Pakistan have batted well, tiring out the bowlers, seeing off the new ball etc.

Ramiz will change his tune completely and go overboard with praise "Oh Misbah's Pakistan know exactly how to play test cricket, they grind the bowlers down and tear them apart later in the day. Look at the ferocity against Bishoo and Chase" blah blah

It will be a far cry from the gaaliyah he is giving to the batsmen right now :))

Misbah 1 run off 32 balls.

:salute

#what would we do without you

Azhar Ali is a great batsman and best opener in the world.

He can't rotate the strike well, people need to live with that and accept his phenomenal record

If it rains and this lack of initiative might be the reason for the draw and Misbah has to bear the brunt of criticism

Someone tell Ramiz that Azhar scored heavily in Aus as well, WITHOUT HOOKING :warner

You know else was limited and rubbish because they didn't hook and pull? Steve Waugh. An aggressive team like Australia would never let a hack like Steve Waugh play for them.

You need to have TALUNT

I've got a Land Law exam tomorrow morning so I'm probably done with gifs for the rest of the day but I couldn't pass up the chance to immortalise that moment.

:salute

Good luck bro, expect you to achieve 99% :salute

Azhar is a class apart and more importantly wipes the floor with the bloke at the other end.

Horrible batting from top to bottom. It would be understandable for Azhar to have a SR that he has right now if he was starting his innings. For God's sake you are 110 not out. Are you still seeking to become set on the wicket? Just a pure one-dimensional batsman. Misbah is being equally pathetic here. I get that the team is scared to collapse but c'mon this is taking it too far.
