Pakistan reach 109/3 at the end of Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies, with a lead of 202 runs

Ramiz Raja played a significant role in inflating Babar Azam's average, making him appear to be a better player than he actually is. During Ramiz Raja's tenure, from September 13, 2021, to December 21, 2022, Babar averaged 70 in home conditions, despite Pakistan not winning a single Test at home. However, after that period, his average dropped to 30. This suggests that the focus was more on making Babar look impressive on flat pitches rather than achieving wins for Pakistan.
Yes, they marketed Babar Azam as the next coming of Ricky Ponting when he's not even good enough to tie Muhammad Yousuf's shoes. That inflated balloon had to pop one day

WI cricket in real decline , leagues have destroyed their first class system and approach towards international cricket

Babar cant score at Home now. I have never seen such mentally weak player in recent times. and people call him Best 😂

KG is over confident and that fluke innings in cape town did nt help. He is trying to be aggressive player but does nt have that technique or style

I don't like shan. Infact I still view him as a nepo baby and a poor captain.

However you have to admit, it's downright embarrassing that he has consistently outperformed babar azam the so called king ever since he arrived on the scene.

Every series he's been better. If Shan hits another century, then it'll be utter humiliation. Guy has scored 3 test centuries at a 37 to 39 avg since he became captain while Babar azam can barely avg 20.

Shame on Ramiz and shame on the King.

Ramiz was only obsessed with building Brand Babar and Pakistan kept losing Series after Series on pitches that didnt suit Pakistans bowling. Thank Goodness PTI government got out of power and Rameez got removed, otherwise even today Rameez would be leading the Board.

Pakistan is a nepo country.

Anyway for Shan It's not like he was scoring ducks in domestic. He's got a decent first class record at home and in county. He was selected on merit.

The reason he has got so many games is because he is able to build bridges with coaches and board very quickly whereas the rest of the players can't string two sentences together.

Yeah I'm aware he was selected based on yorkshire performances and due to his good communication skills.

However he is 100% a nepo baby. In no other country would be a 28 avg batter be made captain. Only happens in pakistan.

A guy with barely any test experience or a poor record can be selected on the off-chance he'll surprise you, case in point Abdullah and sam konstas but they wouldn't be made captain.

But regardless, He's out performed almost everyone excluding saud and Rizwan. And that deserves praise.

Kamran has been a failure since his debut century... Boy needs to score runs... At least at home he should

Thank you Jayden and whoever was at number 11 so that Windies avoided the follow on.

Thank you for giving us the gift of Babar Azam’s 10 balls again
Follow on can only be enforced if the lead is 200 or more.

Pakistan scored 230 so even if the tail didn't do what they did. We'd still get to see babar botch it.

I don't think follow on can be enforced in such a wicket. Impossible to score 400+ here.

Shan wasn't at fault he was ball watching. KG has a habit of pathetic run outs, either himself or others

I feel 250+ is game over.

WI batsmen had no clue how to play spin in the first innings and it will only get harder.
There's still 3 days left albeit losing multiple overs everyday too.

That's stumps too on day 2.

I'd say Pak should carry on and get 350 it's only 148 more needed to get there anyway. They should come out tomorrow looking to be proactive unless they go into their shell and Warrican plays havoc can't be said.

100% agree.

They should look to bat as long as they can and get well past that 250 mark. If that means getting to 350-400 then that's wonderful and even more demoralizing for WI.

If they start piling on those extra runs it allows Shan the freedom to get more aggressive with his field settings too.

How r we suppose to get 350.with this approach..gulam doesnt know wat day it is agha os a taip.ender awell only rizzy n saud cam graft but i think we need seales warrica cameos.to be honest

Sajid Khan, during the pitch-side interview after Day 2 of the first Test against West Indies:

"The difference between our bowlers and theirs was pace variation. Once I got four quick wickets, I went for the kill, which is why I conceded some runs. If we get a 300-plus lead by lunch tomorrow, we can definitely win this one. Noman Ali is very experienced, and I am enjoying bowling in partnership with him. Bowling against England gave me a lot of confidence, which I have carried forward into this series as well."

All we need is a good night sleep to our spinners so that they are fresh for 2nd innings another 100 runs will give comfort to our spin trio

Sajid Khan, while addressing the press conference after Day 2 of the first Test between Pakistan and West Indies:

Playing and focusing on performance:

"First of all, we are players and wherever we go, we want to play. Whether or not we are selected is the selectors' decision, and it's in Allah's hands. I don't focus much on such issues. Whenever I get a chance, my only focus is to perform well for my country, myself, and my team. Regarding the new ball, I only bowled 23 overs today with the new ball. Unfortunately, I went for some runs early on because I was aiming for wickets, but that's cricket. Mistakes happen, and we keep learning from them."

Clarifying the social media video:

"Let me clarify something about that social media video. I never mentioned the Pakistan team when I talked about getting dropped after performing. I was referring to the junior levels like Under-13, Under-16, and Under-19. I’ve always been a batter and later became a spinner. So, it's not an issue for me; when I perform, I do it for the team, and I enjoy every part of it. Regarding batting, credit goes to our batting coaches and the selectors for giving us 45-50 minutes of batting practice daily, which helps us improve, especially as spinners."

Imitating celebrations:

"He [Kevin Sinclair] imitated my celebration after he beat me with a ball. I was glad to see him doing that, and it’s always nice when players, even kids, imitate such celebrations. Even players like Kamran and myself do it. I would love to see Babar Azam and Rizwan doing it after getting five wickets in a match!"

Winning the match and the series:

"If we start early tomorrow, and if we can score 300+ runs, we will put them in a tough position. It depends on their mindset, whether they play defensive or aggressive cricket. We’ll adjust our plan accordingly. Our focus is to win the match, and we aim to win the series in this Test Championship."

Adapting plans for aggressive batters:

"When you play in domestic or international cricket, batters will always play in different ways. Our plan is to stay focused and bowl in the right areas. If they play aggressive shots, we’ll need to adapt and be ready for that. If we bowl well and field well, we can handle the situation."

Maintaining rhythm through training:

"The gap between games can be challenging, but I try to stay focused and work on maintaining rhythm through training. I’ve been working with our coach, Shoaib Khan, on new ball techniques, and this season, I’ve focused a lot on that. Shoaib Khan, our head coach, has been instrumental in helping me with the new ball, and we’ve been working on it in domestic matches."

Teamwork and encouragement:

"Our plan is simple – we aim to keep the runs down and bowl in the right areas. We work well together, and when I give up runs, Nauman and others like Rizwan and Shani support me. Cricket is a team effort, and we always encourage each other."

Focusing on the basics taught by coaches:

"The plan is always simple. We focus on the basics we’ve been taught, especially by coaches like Saqlain Mushtaq and Shoaib Khan. They guide us, and we try to carry that forward. We also learn a lot from the fast bowlers, and this partnership between Noman and me is built on trust and mutual understanding."

Preparing spin-friendly pitches in Pakistan:

"Spin tracks are definitely useful for spinners, but when we go to countries like Australia or England, they have their own strengths with fast bowlers. However, we can learn from them and adapt to different conditions. When we prepare spin-friendly pitches in Pakistan, we want to make sure our spinners can perform well."

There's no reason to have selected this kg

Imam ul haq , umar amin or even tayyab tahir would have been better options .

Kg doesn't bring anything to the table in the longer format horrid technique as well.

Pakistan take lead after Noman and Sajid spin a web around West Indies

Pakistan finished the day two of the first Multan Test against West Indies with a 202-run lead after the spin twins Noman Ali and Sajid Khan wreaked havoc with the ball here at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Pakistan were 109-3 in the second innings at stumps in 31 overs when bad light forced stumps. Skipper Shan Masood returned after scoring a 70-ball 52 with the help of two fours and two sixes, while Mohammad Huraira stayed at the crease for 58 balls accumulating 29 runs with the help of three fours.

Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel will be on the crease as Pakistan resume their second innings on day three.

Earlier in the day, Noman and Sajid shared nine wickets among them to dismantle the West Indies batting line-up who were restricted for 137 all out in 25.2 overs. Noman starred with figures of 5-39 in 11 overs, his seventh Test five-for.

Sajid started the damage with four wickets upfront while bowling with the new ball as West Indies slipped to 22-4. After opening the bowling, he took back to back wickets on the first two balls of the third over of innings and then struck twice in the fifth over.

For West Indies, No.10 batter Jomel Warrican top-scored with an unbeaten 31 off 24 balls hitting four boundaries and one six. Jayden Seales, batting at No 11, contributed with a 13-ball 22-run cameo clubbing three sixes, while Gudakesh Motie chipped in with 19 runs.

Warrican and Seales also came together for a valuable 21-ball 46-run last wicket partnership.

At the beginning of the play, Pakistan resumed from their overnight score of 143-4 and could only add 87 runs to their total as the two half-centurions Saud Shakeel (84, 157b, 6x4s) and Mohammad Rizwan (71, 133b, 9x4s) were removed by Kevin Sinclair. Seales and Warrican picked up three wickets each.

Scores in brief (Day 2 of 5)

1st Test – Pakistan vs West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan

Toss: Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first

Pakistan 230 all out, 68.5 overs (Saud Shakeel 84, Mohammad Rizwan 71; Jayden Seales 3-27, Jomel Warrican 3-69, Kevin Sinclair 2-61, Gudakesh Motie 1-48) and 109-3, 31 overs (Shan Masood 52, Mohammad Huraira 29; Jomel Warrican 2-17)

West Indies 137 all out, 25.2 overs (Jomel Warrican 31 not out, Jayden Seales 22, Gudakesh Motie 19; Noman Ali 5-39, Sajid Khan 4-65)

The WI batting lineup are easily knocked over even on docile pitches let alone a Multan turner. I feel for their bowlers who deserve better.

PAK should win comfortably even if they only add another 50 runs.

West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican, while addressing the press conference after Day 2 of the 1st Test against Pakistan:

“We were disappointed with the decision regarding Kamran Ghulam’s dismissal, but technology was not in our control. We have to focus on the game and adapt to the circumstances.”

“If Pakistan sets a target of 275 or even 300 runs, we believe we have the ability to achieve it. The key will be staying disciplined and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.”

Yeah the guy who scored a 100 on test debut with the team down 1-0 to Eng and in a difficult match situation doesn't bring anything to the team!

Some of y'all are some serious clowns on here SMDH

Once again in spin friendly conditions our batsmen have looked woeful.

Saud, KG, rizwan, Agha need to turn up on day 3.

We will eventually play a team with better players of spin then ours and will lose test and series at home.

Longterm is this spin friendly stuff making us produce good batters?

Yes we don't want roads, but at same time their has to be a balance
