West Indies versus England T20I series 2022

Don’t understand Pollard role as a batsmen in this series

He needs to face as much deliveries as possible so should bat at 3 or 4.

Moeen on fire today

A swashbuckling innings from interim skipper Moeen Ali was the catalyst in England’s fourth T20I victory over the West Indies in Barbados.

Moeen struck seven sixes, of which four were consecutive strikes off the bowling of Jason Holder, helping the tourists post a score of 193.

In reply, the West Indies fell 34 runs short, with Moeen capping off a Player of the Match performance with two wickets in the field, taking the series to a decider on Sunday.

The stand-in captain strode out with England starting in sluggish fashion by their standards, building on the work of Jason Roy (52 off 42 balls), who gradually moved into his innings after adjusting to slow conditions.

James Vince (34 off 26) also played a strong hand in the middle overs, before the likes of Liam Livingstone (16) and Sam Billings complimented Moeen, as the team scored 59 runs in the final three overs.

Moeen, at one stage 20 off 16 balls, unleashed in the late flurry, hitting six of his sixes in the space of nine legal deliveries faced. After his dismissal in the final over, Billings (13* from four deliveries), enjoyed some late six-hitting of his own to put the tourists' score above par.

West Indies were unbeaten in the Powerplay and strong in response, with Kyle Mayers looking in particularly strong form early. He fell to Moeen for 40 (23), as did his partner Brandon King, who made 26 at less than a run-a-ball.

Spin was the key for England as Adil Rashid (1/28) and Liam Livingstone (1/18) joined their skipper, stifling in the middle overs and preventing a late fightback.

Jason Holder (36 off 24) provided resistance, but it proved futile in a comfortable win for Moeen's men.

In T20Is, I believe West Indies should look beyond Shai Hope & Darren Bravo.

For the backup wicket keeper, as of now, Andre Fletcher is the best option.

My West Indies XI for 5th T20I vs England:

1. King
2. Mayers
3. Pooran (WK)
4. Chase
5. Pollard (C)
6. Holder
7. Shepherd
8. Allen
9. Odean
10. Akeal
11. Cottrell
Drakes (12th men)

RE: our seamers. Jordan’s bowling was much improved this time, and Topley was very good again. Bit worried about Tymal Mills though — he’s not got back into the groove at all since his return from injury and he is going round the park consistently. He might need to be replaced.

I believe, Saqib Mahmood will replace Mills in 5th T2OI. Guess, Garton will also play the 5th T20I.

England have developed a bit of a headache with their new ball partnership. Topley is doing the business in the first over, but then whoever gets picked as his partner is being ruthlessly targeted straight away.

Saqib is giving off Jade Dernbach vibes. He's yet do anything in international cricket and time could slowly be running out for him.

West Indies laying down a strong early marker and demonstrating their intent to win this game and the series. England are getting absolutely killed here already and have a lot of work to do if they are going to come back.

More spin on here , Rashid comes in , If WI can get his 4 overs for 30 runs without wickets , they will be in strong position

SIXXX

Pooran gets that away , WI need to rotate the strike as well here , to make these count

Drinks.

86/2 after 10.

West Indies on top but it could be even worse for England had the spinners not succeeded in somewhat calming things down.

Moeen struggling early on. Slow start. But with target not too big need to hold on.

England are going to lose if they don't pick up the RR. Wickets will tumble in heaps as the game goes deep.

50 up for Vince.

106-4. 74 off 48 required, 8 overs to go.

Match in balance currently.

England need 28 runs in 12 balls.

The match is in balance here

If England gets another 15 - 20 runs this over they will win

Thrilling end to a thrilling series!

Credit goes to both sides for putting on a great show. The stands were bouncing throughout.

England can take a lot of heart from this. They tried a lot of new players and learned a lot while remaining quite competitive.

A dazzling four-wicket haul by Akeal Hosein and Jason Holder’s four wickets in four balls helped West Indies win the fifth and final T20I match by 17 runs.

Holder joined Rashid Khan, Curtis Campher and Lasith Malinga as the only male bowlers to achieve the feat of four-in-four at T20I level, preventing late England exploits in a 17-run win.

The West Indies innings started positively thanks to openers Brandon King (34) and Kyle Mayers (31), who ensured that the hosts took full advantage of the Powerplay overs.

England pulled things back in their favour as their spin duo of Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone picked up both the openers in quick succession.

The England spinners continued to control the scoring rate as they finished their spells with two wickets each and with an economy of less than six runs per over.

It took a while for the West Indies batters to accelerate but with the fall of Nicholas Pooran’s wicket (21), captain Kieron Pollard and Rovman Powell took on the England bowlers, finishing the innings at 179/4 thanks with a very quick 74-run partnership between the big-hitting duo.

England’s chase started poorly with Jason Roy (9) falling in the first over of their reply.

While the visitors kept abreast with the required run-rate, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals with Tom Banton (16), Moeen Ali (14) and Liam Livingstone (6) all falling cheaply.

James Vince made a valiant 55 off 35 balls before being dismissed by Akeal Hosein, who finished with brilliant figures of 4-0-30-4.

The England chase seemed to have lost steam after Vince’s wicket. Sam Billings gave them some hope with a quick-fire 41 off 28 balls.

But it was the Jason Holder Show to end the innings as the Windies all-rounder picked four wickets in four balls in the final over to complete a five-wicket haul.

He becomes the first West Indian male player to take a T20I hat-trick.
