What's new

"What have I done wrong? Why is there no justice for me?" : Sadaf Hussain

And Bounce. That's what Glenn McGrath goes on about when talking about the secret of his action. That's what people always forget about on this board. Unless they are talking about Irfan.

Sadaf is the second tallest after Irfan among top bowlers in Pakistan. Taller than Ehsan. We are playing in NZ. Where Grant Flower has been moaning about bounce. Let's absolutely not send a 6 '5 fast bowler who averages 18 in Loit A cricket and can swing ball to NZ. Never.

I totally second that, Sadaf would have extracted considerbale bounce alongwith some swing on these pitches. Selection of M.Nawaz totally baffled me, Inzamam selected only 3 pacers for 8 fixtures in New Zealand. We were missing 2 LFM bowlers & he didn't bother to replace even one. It would have been a perfect & well earned oppurtunity for poor Sadaf to finally showcase his skills at international level.

Ok So,

What is the official word at present ?

Sadaf was top wicket taker in Departmental One Day Cup just recently.

After years of being ignored by RCCA finally he got picked by Rawalpindi once again and out of the 6-7 matches he has only played 3 matches and since than he was dropped.

Now amongst top wicket takers he sits at number 29 which is no Good.

What is the news ?

1. Is he injured ?

2. Has he been called to NCA ?

3. Has he left for UK to play league cricket ?

4. A bad news in family ? (God forbid)

5. Politics again ?

3 matches 5 wickets @19 with an Eco of 3.75.

@Saj

Borderline stupidity now. What exactly do we lose not trying him out? It's not like any of our pacers are performing at a stellar standard, except Hasan in ODIs.

We've seen this before, once these selectors or whoever decide that their "eye for talent" deems a player unsuitable, they don't want to be proven wrong.

At this point I'd say Sadaf should just move country. It's utterly crazy, even in domestic he seems to be discriminated against at times, let alone internationals.

This is Bizarre.

I got the answer.

Sadaf Hussain the top wicket taker of Departmental One Day Cup few days ago was not picked for any initial squad of National One Day Cup of regions.

He played 1st 3 matches for Rawalpindi as a replacement of Umar Amin who was on national duty.

Hell.

Sadaf Hussain should go and join some other international team. Maybe Ireland.

Fawad Alam should migrate to Zimbabwe and become their ATG test batsman.

Umar Amin is an intelligent captain, he made Fawad Alam bat at number 7 in a one day match. No wonder he dropped Sadaf Hussain.

Sadaf Hussain should be given a chance based upon his recent performances

We had a good look at Sadaf during a camp for future prospects which was held last year in March. He is a swing type bowler who does not have so much pace. The issue is that to succeed in international cricket, pace is a necessity. There is no doubt about his bowling abilities at all. But if you see the type of structure we are trying to set up in our team, we look at the players bowling, batting and fielding abilities too. Our batting, as we know, is weak so we expect all players to be able to chip in with some runs as well. So, if a player’s batting and fielding is not up to the standard and the pace, as per my judgement, is not that high either then this is a problem. Having said that, it is down to the selectors but I feel that based purely on his performances and statistics, he does deserve a chance for Pakistan.

You know you cant bat till 11th.

Azhar Bhai at least try him in tests. Abbas and Imran Khan J also aren't 150k bowlers.

He should get a few games this year. Ireland and England would be a good place to test him it's not too late. We're gonna tour South Africa later this year and he'll be useful there as well.

He's not even being chosen for the local tournaments and was immediately replaced once Umar came back, never mind Ireland and England. I know they are Tests but most FC players are chosen for LA tourneys to at least come into the spotlight but not him.

This is quite distressing.

Azhar Mahmood hasn't explained how Sadaf keeps getting wickets - despite his low pace. And why he outshines other bowlers playing on same wickets season after season?

Two possible theories:

1. The bowling coach, Azhar, just doesn't understand what makes Sadaf tick.
If that is the case, it's quite scary.

2. He thinks without pace, batting and fielding abilities, Sadaf will not be a threat in overseas conditions - which probably is majority opinion in PCB establishment.
In this case, the burden is on PCB establishment to prove their point by putting Sadaf through fitness test. If he fails, OK. If he passes, they must try him in different overseas conditions - A Tours, side matches etc - because he has earned it based on his domestic performance.

Otherwise, PCB essentially is implying: domestic stats don't matter.

It means the bowling coach doesn't know how wickets are taken. How pacy are Southee or Boult, who wrecked Pakistan in NZ? How good with the bat are Junaid or Usman Shinwari, who are selected ahead of Sadaf for the ODI team? I'll answer that, Junaid averages 8 with the bat, Shinwari 6, but whereas Junaid averages 30 with the ball in List A cricket, and Usman 24, Sadaf averages 19, with an incredible SR of 23. As for A tours, Sadaf has already been on two, as far as I know, and was man of the series for both. They have nowhere left to hide with their excuses. Simple as that.

Pace is the issue.you can,t keep two thundlers in a test team,we have abbas already. But sadaf would have given chances years ago not now.Shahin shah should be there now.

Sadaf should be selected for ODIs first, that is where he is has really outshone his domestic competition; he's simply been leagues ahead. In Tests/FC Abbas has been better lately. And Abbas has not been selected for ODIs, nor should he. A well rounded ODI attack would be Hasan (pacy but short, middle overs and death) Sadaf (tall, swing and bounce, opening overs), Amir/Shahin. Amir barely merits a place these days in ODIs and could do with being rotated out I think.

With hsi pace and flat wickets these days i dont think Sadaf is suited for LOI .

I hope he gets a game in Ireland and brings utter destruction, 9/37 in an innings and taking 15 wickets in a match, then everyone will suddenly turn from 'Sadaf hater' to a 'Sadaf life long fan' .

Sometimes wish Sialkot, Karachi and Islamabad lodge a joint protest and apply for other countries as 'protest' to the PCB discrimination and people like Shakeel Sheikh putting their kids infront of first class cricketers.
Sadaf Hussain, Khalid Latif and others should apply for UAE and England and restart their career there , they already have wasted many yearsto nepotism of PCB.

Asif was pacy...i mean above 130kph but i doubt this guy can bowl like this,,,and Abbas can hardly bowl 130kph...rather than he operates in 124 to 128kph most of the times.

You don't doubt, it is quite clear you actually don't know what pace he is capable of bowling at.

Btw, do you know who is taller, Sadaf or Asif? Know what height is good for?

Yes i know he has height but i have seen him live and can say he is not faster than 130 KPH.what next?
I am stil of the opninion that he should be give a chance but not expecting much .

Why isn't he picked by ANYONE? Even his domestic sides drop him. No PSL, no Pentangular Cup etc even after so much hue and cry on social media. What do you know about Sadaf Hussain that the entire Pakistan cricket establishment doesn't? I'm genuinely asking this question. With those stats he should be picked for teams left, right and centre which is a far cry from whats been happening.

pace is not the issue. because if you are taking wickets, however you are taking those wickets, you don't have an issue.

the obsession with pace is the issue.

abbas is a non sequitur. he is not selected for the odi team and should not be, because his list a stats are not nearly as good as sadafs.

the question is, what does the cricket establishment think to know about sadaf that batsmen don't? he keeps dismissing top batsmen, over and over again. he takes wickets. its not about opinion vs opinion, but opinion vs reality.

Pakistan cricket domestic star Sadaf Hussain has been waiting for his opportunity to make his return into international cricket and his coaches think that he has the skills.

Pakistan cricket bowling coach Azhar Mahmood believes that Hussain has got the skills but lacks in speed, which is considered a ‘necessity’ in current international cricket.

“We had a good look at Hussain during a camp for future prospects which was held last year in March. He is a swing type bowler who does not have so much pace. The issue is that to succeed in international cricket, pace is a necessity,” stated Mahmood, quoted PakPassion.

Left arm Hussain ranked among the most talented medium-fast bowlers in Pakistan cricket today. Since making his debut in 2009, he has played 75 first-class matches where he has taken 358 wickets.

Mahmood further said that the selectors are looking for players that exhibits bowling, batting and fielding abilities, to get them into international cricket. “There is no doubt about his bowling abilities at all. But if you see the type of structure we are trying to set up in our team, we look at the players bowling, batting and fielding abilities too. Our batting, as we know, is weak so we expect all players to be able to chip in with some runs as well. So, if a player’s batting and fielding is not up to the standard and the pace, as per my judgement, is not that high either then this is a problem,” he said.

“Having said that, it is down to the selectors but I feel that based purely on his performances and statistics, he does deserve a chance for Pakistan,” he added.

Earlier, speaking about his disappointment at being ignored by the selectors, Hussain said, “This is the question that keeps going around in my head over and over again. I have no idea why I have never been given a chance to play for Pakistan. The selectors haven’t answered this question, in fact nobody has.”

^^ seems as though his question was answered pretty well by Azhar. Lack of pace, total tailender with the bat, can't field. When even Hammad Azam can average low 20's with the ball at home you realise there's more to bowling in Pakistan than just your statistics.

Poor guy hails from my city Chakwal ... saw him bowling two three years ago he was at his peak at that time and really unplayable ...

sad to see such talent been wasted because of likes and dislikes

From the short clips I've seen. He seems down on pace and mostly relies on seam movement. Looks like a test match bowler. But his stats are absolutely amazing in whatever type of cricket his played, first class or List A. He definetly deserves a go in the test team. Their is nothing wrong with trying him out. What is the use of domestic cricket, if the performers aren't considered??

Ya there is more than statistics, there is comparative performance. If Azam averages low 20's, you should select whoever averages high 10's. Like Sadaf. In other words, you select whoever is the best. Because everyone plays on the same wickets. And he takes more wickets than anyone else. So what does lack of pace matter? What is Southee's pace, or Boult's? What about bounce, what Grant Flower felt was so important on the New Zealand tour? Are Junaid Khan and Usman Shinwari better with the bat than Sadaf? No, absolutely not. These excuses are so threadbare now it is embarrassing to read them frankly. After topping the departmental ODI rankings again, for the umpteenth year running, Sadaf's detractors have nowhere to hide. Besides Hasan, where are the ODI ATG bowlers who cannot yield a place to him? Why are we so afraid to give even a single series to the best domestic LOI bowler in recent history? Absurdity.
