What's new

What if the India-Pakistan game is washed out?

I have tickets for this game and I will be driving up from London so I am hoping that we get a game. However I am also hoping that normal service doesn't resume for Pakistan v India in world cups. We need to be on our A game on Sunday. If we win the toss, I would bat first (depending on weather) and put up a good score to pile some pressure on the Indian batsmen. We will need to look to pick up Rohit and Kohli relatively cheaply. In saying that the Indians have quite a good bowling attack and so our batsmen will need to target the right bowlers. Our batsmen should be looking to target Pandya, Kuldeep and Bhuvi to an extent. That doesn't mean we go into our shell against the likes of Bumrah and Chahal, but we will need to be careful when playing them and look to rotate the strike and pick up the singles and 2s against them.

After this washout week, I think fans are less concerned about outcome of WC. Ind-Pak game is the only game that can reignite interest of fans in this WC. Otherwise majority of fans will lose interest and a big dent to ICC/Broadcasters profit.

This WC needs a kick. If Ind-Pak game doesn't provide the kick, WC is a failure.

I don't know what is so hard to understand. The broadcaster don't want to ruin their broadcast dollars by having two matches simaltaneously. They have put one day/week as double header that is their limit.

Dude, say the India Pak match is washed out.

Would the broadcaster be happier having a reserve day? Of course! They'll have all eyes glued to their channel the next day instead of not at all!

SAVE PAKISTAN???
you mean SAVE INDIA!!!

Save India? Save India from what? There is no doubt IF the rain calls the game off, Pakistan would be the happier team. But I don't think rain will impact it anyway

Yes they would love to use the reserve day but they don't want a reserve day of SL VS Bangladesh clashing with Australia and Pakistan. As Dave Richardson said if they allotted reserve day for all matches tournament will become very long and unmanageable.

The biggest mistake is to host World cup in England that too in June.World cup should be more important than Ashes and should get peak summer July-August calendar from England.

If they cannot allocate the peak summer then they should not host world cup.3 matches already gone and counting.SL got 2 point as if they have won a match. They would have lost both matches.

Basically folks, the cat is out of the bag. These two, who care for the welfare of the ICC, are clearing saying that they want to see reserve days for India matches, but no other group matches.

It was only a matter of time before the truth behind their ridiculous and pathetic arguments was exposed.

How would it clash? Two different venues.

How would it clash? Two different venues.

It would not clash! Unless there was a match involving India!

2 matches have already been broadcast on the same day in this WC, no reserve days, and it was never an issue. In fact, if anything, viewers had the option to choose between the matches! Great option!

Less noise and atmospheric pollution, which is a good thing!

Television times both would start at the same time tomorrow.ICC in my view should have played more than one match everyday but star sports would not want it as it would lose revenue.

If two matches are played every day scheduling an extra day for rainout would be easier.

The world cup isn't here to appease the Indians. India may want the whole planet watching them play to increase revenue for the sponsers etc but in most sporting events two or more matches are often played at the same time. The fans can choose which match to watch, cricket doesnt revolve around team India.

What exposed, why you think they are playing only one match every day and not four like in 1983.This world cup would have wrapped up in 3 weeks if they played four matches every day and also each match would get reserve day too.

Broadcaster who paid for the rights would not allow it.

It is not about India at all. What makes you think my statement was about Indians. It is about ICC and broadcasting rights. If ICC wants top dollars for world cup they have to live with 8 matches a week.No broadcaster would allow two matches at the same time hurting their revenues.

Says who? Indian broadcasters?

No one is saying to play 3 matches a day, but ICC should have contingency plans and broadcasters who paid for rights should be prepared to broadcast 2 matches day in the event a reserve day is used!

I state again, on the 8th June 2019 ENG vs BNG & AFG vs NZ, 2 matches were broadcasted on the same day, regular schedule. Did the Indian broadcasters not complain then about their rights? Of course not India was not playing.

I wonder how Indian broadcasters who paid for the rights would feel if India matches were washed out - all that money for rights down the drain - no pun intended.

Stop thinking the world thinks like Indian broadcasters. If ICC cared about broadcasting rights then it would not schedule overlapping cricket schedules.

Tell me, why is 8 matches a week ok, but not 9 or 10 in the event of a reserve day?

Weather forecast is fine, we are getting a full game :ravi.
I wanted it to be a wash out before i heard shikar was injured. Now if this is true and not a trick my team india, then i want the sun to shine bright and let the world see us break the streak, inshaAllah!

8th June 2019 ENG vs BNG & AFG vs NZ

The Broadcaster in England would broadcast ENG vs BNG
The Broadcaster in Bangladesh would broadcast ENG vs BNG
The Broadcaster in AFG would broadcast AFG & NZ
The Broadcaster in NZ would broadcast AFG & NZ

But ICC will lose out? Nonsense. It's double bubble for the ICC!

As pointed out two matches being played/aired at the same time has already taken place. So your argument is simply false.

It is easy to talk about ideals when it is not your money.Where in my post I have mentioned India, I would love to have two matches every day and get this world cup finished in 3 weeks .

Don't have to bring India and Indians in every discussion, it is star sports today and it might be different broadcaster tomorrow.

It is ICC's greed which has done this and it has got nothing to do with India stop brining Indian angle into it.ICC could have taken less money and given broadcaster directive to broadcast two matches every day.If Starsports was not willing some other broadcaster will do it.

Why are England matches are on SKY and not on free television.

Two matches are taking place once a week not every day and one is match is starting late. Why do you think they are not playing two matches every day??

You have no clue how broadcast rights work.

They already did, 8th June, which completely destroys your point.

You have no clue of the normal schedule cos you did not know about the 8th of June (you missed it! So much so about Indian broadcasting rights!), and now you are in damage control.

It's clear, reserve days are ok if India is playing, otherwise not, according to you.

Everyone can see this!

Do the right thing, concede, surrender, and comeback in another thread!

Do you read what I posted. I never said it is okay for me Indian matches to have reserve day. It would be for ICC and broadcasters to have reserve day for Indian or any other big matches since they cannot have that they are not having any reserve day.

Yes they are playing one double header every week I already told you that. That is what broadcaster has agreed upon.

This scheduling has nothing to do with India, it is all upto ICC so stop bringing Indian angle to it.

It would not be every day, only when rain has forced a reserve day. Im not privy to broadcast contracts, so please show us where it stipulates only x amount of matches can be aired at the same time. Even if this is true, it's wrong, viewers will watch the game(s) they are interested in. You just want India to have all the viewers, this is not a how it should work in a global event. The legitimacy of the tournament must come first.

Yes I did read you response, are you reading mine?

Once again, no one has said to have 2 matches every day as a normal schedule, only have 2 matches when reserve day kicks in, but you claim 2 matches a day is a problem with broadcasters, but this is not true anyway - 8th June - ding dong!

Which part are you not understanding?

He has no evidence, it's all a stunt. World Cup football, Olympics etc, all broadcast multiple events/games on the same day. He just wants us to believe cricket rights dance to the Indian tune - which is simply not true.

The Premier league insists on matches starting on the same day for the final games. The same also for the football world cup when it's the final group games. As you know they do this for fairness and are not concenered with broadcasting even though they are amongst the biggest watched matches in the world.

I dont get where the arrogance comes from Indians, thinking everyone should dance to their tune. They are only the pied piper of their own country, so perhaps should have a 12 month IPL and exit world cricket all together.

I will go BANANA IF THAT HAPPENS ON THAT DAY. I have arranged everything tickets - accommodation and my bag is packed. I dont care abt the result i just want to be there for that occasion. As i am writing ✍️ this if we win, which is v unlikely it will be a day to remember for the fans. Please Pakistani Team re-write the history please i beg you.

You want to hear something funny? 2 IPL matches were broadcasted on the same day, regularly on Sat & Sun in 2019 IPL season.

jadaja please concede.

Your argument is invalid and has no basis what so ever.

Technics 1210 and KingKhanWC have taken you to the cleaners literally.

That will surely be a huge relief for the Pakistan team and specially for Sarfraz who is probably carrying the burden of the entire country into that match.

And if it is a washout, Pakistan's great escape will be remembered until the next WC
