What India should learn from Pakistan to be successful in England?

Did someone already mention India need to have a screaming captain like Sarfraz?:)):)))

GQ India is calling this Indian bowling attack as the best attack ever of any visiting team. This is ridiculous. This Indian attack is good but it is nowhere near the Australian and West Indian bowling attacks of the past.It doesn't even come close to Pakistan attack of Wasim,Waqar,Mushtaq etc.

Need proper preparation. Test series in places like England/Australia/SA are very difficult, especially for an Asian team, need to start preparing for these high profile series 1-2 months in advance!

"We committed too many mistakes and allowed them to bounce back": Kapil Dev

Too many mistakes committed at crucial junctures cost India the Test series against England, former captain Kapil Dev said on Monday.

Kapil, who led India to triumph in the 1983 World Cup in England, said he always felt India were a better side on paper but they could not translate that into their superiority on the field.

"It is very simple... We lost the series because they (England) played better. I still believe we are a better team than them. But again, as I said, they played better," said Kapil, on the sidelines of a function organised by Indian Territorial Army and Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for the announcement of National Marathon to be held on October 2.

India on Sunday suffered a 60-run defeat in the fourth Test against England in Southampton after they were bowled out for 184 in the second innings. With this, England also pocketed the five-Test series 3-1 with a match to spare.

Asked what he thought was the reason for the Indian batsmen's failure, Kapil laughed and said: "If all things had happened correctly, then India would have won the series. But bygones are bygones... Now I would like to see what positives India can take home despite the defeat.

"If you look back at the series, you will realise there were enough occasions when we were on the verge of finishing the matches in our favour. But we committed too many mistakes and allowed them to bounce back," he said

Kapil agreed that India remained too much dependent on Virat Kohli as a batsman. "Cricket is a team game, it is not dependent on one or two players. Virat Kohli got 500-plus runs and Joe Root could not do much. But that could not stop England from winning," he said.

Kapil, however, is not ready to talk about India's tour of Australia later this year, or whether the Australians would feel confident after India's defeat in England.

"I would like to see my own system working properly... Not what is happening there (in Australia). Currently, I am concerned about this tour and the next Test match is more important. Now you have to make sure that you try to win every Test match you play," said Kapil.

He also dismissed the notion that India, without captain Kohli, would be a weaker side in the Asia Cup.

"I don't believe the team will be weaker. It is a team game. Yes, he (Kohli) is an important player. You can rely on him. But whenever you start depending on one player, you are not going to win the series or the tournament. A few players are always important, but collectively you have to play like a team," he said.

Moving away from cricket, Kapil heaped praise on the Indian athletes for performing creditably at the Asian Games in Jakarta, where they finished with a haul of 69 medals.

"I congratulate the Indian athletes... They have made us proud. I would specially like to praise the women athletes, who have performed exceptionally," he said.

"At the Asian Games, we saw how Indian athletes from rather humble backgrounds came up and won medals. At the same time, I must congratulate the agencies, who played big roles behind these successes," Kapil said.

The champion cricketer picked up Assam runner Hima Das for special praise by calling her the "real hero." Hima bagged three medals in Jakarta - two silver medals and one bronze medal.

"Aspiring athletes with lower middle-class backgrounds are coming up more and more. You just need a push to make them play. The days of recommendations and nepotism are over," Kapil said.

India was better than SA on paper, but they lost. India was better than England on Paper but they lost. India is also better than Aus on Paper but who knows. If matches were decided on paper, then India would have never won the 83 world cup. That side was not even good enough to wash the shoes on the mighty west indies

It is like asking what can Pakistan learn from other teams when it comes to playing in Australia, because no team has been worse than us in the last 15-20 years.

The answer is nothing. Some teams do better against certain teams, and that is how sports work.

Pakistan is England’s bogey team in this era, whatever the reason(s) might be. However, India are better against most other opposition home and away, and that is why they are 1st and we are 7th.

The pressure of coming back when you are down 2-0 is immense. The last time any team won even 2 consecutive tests in England was in the 2001 Ashes.

Commentators showed how Ashwin was restricting his action. Btw he is injured again.

Yes, an the ESPN cricinfo commentators clearly said that Ashwin was bowling normally but not landing it in the right areas. The Sky Sports commentators said the same thing and not being able to consistently land it in the right areas was why Ashwin struggled and Moeen excelled. Stop with your lame excuses. If he was injured, he should not have played the fourth test and should have informed the team management before the fact instead of crying about it after the fact.

They need to learn how to dismiss the opposition to lower scores than their own batsmen. That means they have to bowl better than the opposition bowlers which they haven't been able to do.

I think mostly Pakistan's attrition style batting developed under Misbah ul Haq for most part is boring, depressing and uninspiring but it is much needed in England where the ball seams, swings and you cannot always attack unless the pitches are flat.

The Indian batting line which is so spoilt having to constantly play on fast paced flat wickets of India where the ball comes on to the bat sweetly with no swing, movement, just struggles to give respect to the conditions in England. The same is true for Australia in England as well. The amount of players who get caught behind by the keeper and the slips testifies to this.

Well English themselves have placed this series winas second to 2005 ashes win. So I guess the Indian team did put fight.

Or it might be because they are such a weak team right now and cannot believe that they won three matches against "the best touring team in the world" with the "best touring bowling attack" including "Bowling Bradman" and the new Sachin/Lara/Ponting/Viv/Superman.

Ya that's possible or ipl contract wanted

India behind Pakistan in England but well above them in Australia and South Africa.
