What is the logic of using Cardiff as a venue for the Champions Trophy 2017?

What's the logic in using Cardiff as a venue for this competition? A very poor turnout today probably due to the fact that the venue is so far away for most fans to travel to. If this game was played in London it would have been full.

I'm going on Monday and hope that there's a bigger turnout by Pakistani fans.....hope a few make the trip from Birmingham.

The ICC should seriously think about where the crowd base is coming from. Would have understood if Wales were playing in the competition but they have lost revenue from using Cardiff.

Its a good point. Its a massive surprise why Lords or any of the northern grounds weren't consider like Headingly or Old Trafford.

Empty stands for every match.

Should have played matches at Old Trafford, Lord's or maybe Headingley.

Got to appease the Welsh being part of the 'England and Wales Cricket Board'.

Understandable, so let them host, say England v Australia, which would have sold out the venue, or New Zealand v Australia. Better planning would have ensured the Asian teams playing out of London, Birmingham and Manchester/Leeds. After all, the whole point of the tournament is to ensure that the grounds are filled and the money is coming in?

Cardiff was chosen as a venue in the honour of Imad Wasim, since the St. Helen's stadium in Swansea does not host international cricket anymore.

England v New Zealand couldn't fill it up, Australia v New Zealand would have no chance.

Its an awful venue that offers little atmosphere even during an Ashes Test.

Other than Simon Jones, Glamorgan hasn't produced any talent for the national team either.

That's my point. If they MUST use Cardiff then use it for those games that wouldn't get filled elsewhere anyway. The games that would get filled at London/Birmingham/Old Trafford etc should be held at those grounds.

Robert Croft was a decent spinner

Australia v New Zealand at Edgbaston had practically just as many as Australia v Bangladesh at The Oval.

Sadly I have no idea what you guys are talking about :( - I thought everywhere in England was the same conditions ??? Am I missing something ??

Not talking about conditions. Cardiff is geographically far away from the main cities that are populated by Asian cricket fans, hence a low turn out of crowds.

Ohh I see.....So Basically the UAE problem.....

thats what i am baffled about why do ecb host Pakistan match in Cardiff.
its useless stadium and too far.
it should have been trent bridge at least if they wernt hodling any matches up north as it was more near or

Even in the UAE there is a huge turnout for ODI games. It's just that the massive stadiums there make it look like empty stands. Apparently the ground today was only a quarter full, that too thanks to schoolkids who were probably let in free.

Apparently the capacity without temporary expansion (not a clue how they do that there?) at Dubai is only 25,000 which makes it the same size as the Oval and Edgbaston. Cardiff has about the same capacity as Sharjah.
