Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been charged by the Football Association with misconduct for running on to the pitch after his side's 96th-minute winner against Everton at Anfield.

Klopp ran on to hug goalkeeper Alisson after Divock Origi's bizarre goal in Sunday's Merseyside derby.

Liverpool won 1-0 to move two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Klopp, who later apologised, has until 18:00 GMT on Thursday to respond.

The German, speaking after Sunday's game, said: "I have to apologise because I didn't want to be disrespectful - but I couldn't stop myself.

"If I could describe how I felt when the goal went in, then I would have control over it. We don't want to look for excuses but that's how it is.

"The plan was not to run. When I chose to stop, I was close to Alisson. He was surprised."

Everton counterpart Marco Silva said he had no issue with Klopp's actions.

"I didn't see Klopp's reaction and if we scored that goal and had been so lucky I might have done the same," said the Portuguese.

"I didn't see any disrespect."

BBC Radio 5 live summariser Robbie Savage said he had "never seen anything like it", while former England defender Danny Mills told 5 live it was "absolutely shocking".

Not particularly classy but not provocative either. Should get punished rightly so. Mitigating circumstances might be the fact that he did apologize immediately.

You cant run on the pitch as a manager but it was a late winner and the gaffa is a passionate man. He will be fined but I hope there is no touch line ban, we need his crazy enthusiasm for the players to see! :klopp

Everton are just sore losers making a fuss over nothing. They are full of hatred towards the mighty Reds always looking to cry over something. In celebrating on the pitch with his own keeper I don't see how that was disrespectful to Everton at all. It's like players receiving a yellow card after taking off their shirt after scoring a goal.

I am no Liverpool fan, but Klopp was just showing incredible passion in a huge local fixture and I enjoyed his pitch run!

Jurgen Klopp has been hit with an £8,000 fine after accepting his misconduct charge.

The Liverpool boss has also been issued with a warning over his future touchline behaviour but has escaped a ban.

Klopp sparked wild celebration scenes at Anfield when he ran onto the pitch after Divock Origi’s dramatic stoppage time winner over Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday.

He later admitted his actions ‘were not cool’ and insisted he had apologised to Toffees boss Marco Silva.

"That's what rules are for. I couldn't avoid it," Klopp said.

Klopp has been fined £8,000 by the Football Association and warned about his future behaviour.

The German had already apologised for the incident and has now stressed it will "not happen again".

"If you break the rules you have to be fined for it," he added.

"If there was no rule then managers would constantly celebrate on the pitch. I don't think anyone thought it was massively wrong.

"The last time I did that was about 14 years ago. I'm not as quick now."

Speaking after Sunday's game, which Liverpool won 1-0 to move two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, the German had said: "I have to apologise because I didn't want to be disrespectful - but I couldn't stop myself.

Everton counterpart Marco Silva said he had no issue with Klopp's actions.

"It's the emotion of the game. It's a normal situation - he's celebrating," Silva said.

"If you ask me, I think he shouldn't [have been fined] but the FA has to decide what the rules are.

"Players celebrating with the fans, some of them taking their shirts off, Klopp or myself or the others celebrating with the fans or with one player, I think it's part of the game and is something you can't stop.

"It's really important as well, even if sometimes you get fined, this passion in the game."

Liverpool's owners are keen to tie manager Jurgen Klopp down to a new, extended contract after the club's Champions League triumph.

Up to 750,000 fans welcomed Klopp - whose current deal ends in 2022 - and his players home on Sunday after the 2-0 win over Spurs in Madrid.

Fenway Sports Group wants to secure the 51-year-old German for longer.

"Jurgen is a brilliant coach but just as importantly he is a humble and caring man," said chairman Tom Werner.

"When the players threw Jurgen in the air after our victory, they were acknowledging what all Liverpool fans know - he is beloved by all who appreciate football."

Champions League: 'Let's talk about 6, baby!' Jurgen Klopp breaks out in to song
It is their first major trophy since Klopp arrived at Anfield in 2015 and the manager said he was amazed by the turnout for their victory parade.

"I don't know exactly how many people live in Liverpool but it does not look like there is a lot of space for fans of other clubs," he told LFC TV.

"It is incredible. If you are a young kid, which do you support? There are not a lot of opportunities or options other than Liverpool. You see in the eyes how much it means. It is really intense."

Liverpool, who lost last season's final to Real Madrid, finished on 97 points in this season's Premier League and lost only once, but finished second to Manchester City.
