Any target above 300 would be difficult to chase in the fourth innings on this pitch. So they should be aiming to score 200 or thereabouts in this innings.
England's highest chase at Old Trafford was 294 vs New Zealand in 2008, second highest is 231 vs West Indies in 2004.
250 and above would be very tough on this surface.
we once lost a test i think some few years ago iin 2018 or 2016, we had a 100 runs lead, what was the target?
Even if pak gets out for 150. 250 is enough to defend
One thing to keep into account is that Sunday's forecast is dodgy!! I really hope someone out of that massive backroom staff has taken that into account . .
Hopefully if they can get through the next hour . . they shouldn't bat past lunch tomorrow! that should be around 50 to 60 overs . . whatever they can get in that
Anything over 250 should be a winning score against present England.

Did you seriously just said this wicket would be more of a spinners wicket compared to uae?

Problem is pak won't be able to have attacking fields for the likes of Yasir and Shadab

220 should be more than enough.
But if any of Root/Stokes have one of those days, even 320 can be chased.
60-40 Pakistan should win. Let's see![]()
What are the highest succesful chases as this ground ?
I just feel that from an England POV all the hopes are pinned on Stokes, he is a record breaker. Other batsman are due a few runs to and will be a lot more cautious against the Pak bowlers, Yasir Shah will be key for Pakistan; after all the stick that man gets!
England will play aggressively to chase the runs down. This can put Pakistan under pressure.
Shots on this wicket are not easy to play. Going aggressive at the start would be a double edged sword, if they loose 2 quick wickets with this approach then they will be on the back foot.
Was it a similar pitch?the chase against new zealand was a similar game scenario to the current game, england winning of the fourth day after turning over a big deficit.

All hopes on Yasir. If he has a good day, Pakistan will win this. If he doesnt, England have an outside chance of nicking this test.
Horrendous batting performance.
Was it a similar pitch?
Vettori went for 1-111 in the 4th innings, our spinners are wicket takers so not a similar scenario in that sense.
Before the test match, we would have all taken 250 runs to chase for England in the 4th innings. In that way, nothing has changed and we stand a good chance. But, the way we crumbled in the 3rd innings that has provided momentum to England and they will want to drive on that momentum. For that, if we stand 30 mins and score 20-25 runs that would be great to harper their momentum and mood for the chase. Even if we fail on that, we should try to get the openers as soon as possible to swing the momentum. Even if that does not happen we should keep fighting hard. I feel Root, Stokes and Pope are the main players in order to get England close and if they do then Buttler and the lower order might be handy otherwise they will fall like a house of cards.
I fear Stokes too but remember he is a leftie and there must be a lot of rough for Yasir. Bring Stokes early on and attack with pace. Otherwise, attack with Yasir using the rough. In sha Allah he is not going to play well when it spins.Similar sentiments from Mushy as well - feels another 20-30 will do the job for Pakistan.
My only problem is that one person - Ben Stokes!

As I said - there is a reason ...... this guy was Coach for 3 years, and put his eggs into two baskets that had combined figures of 23'1 - 1 - 95 - 1 on a 4th innings wicket defending 276............
